Young Pelini in center mix
Posted by: Steve Sipple on August 13, 2011 at 6:26PM CST

He's flown well off the radar to this point.

Makes sense, considering he's only a redshirt freshman.

Still, we're beginning to hear his name.

Mark Pelini, nephew of Bo Pelini and Carl Pelini, is among four centers vying for the top two spots on the depth chart, Nebraska offensive line coach Barney Cotton said.

Senior Mike Caputo is the prohibitive favorite to retain his starting role. Pelini, a redshirt freshman from Cardinal Mooney High in Youngstown, Ohio, is joined in the top four by sophomore Cole Pensick and true freshman Ryne Reeves.

Bottom line, Cotton is looking for guys who can snap and step simultaneously.

"A lot of guys can snap," the coach said. "If you can't snap and step left, or snap and step right, or shotgun and pull, move, pass-set and come off the ball, you'll have to be a guard or a tackle."

Mooney High School rules. Center is a tough position to play as Barney pointed out. And he has to make the line calls to boot.

Mooney HS in where, yes Ohio? Where the Stoops and Pelini names are household?

Looks like he needs some crunches for the abs? Oh sorry, he is a Olineman they don't need to have a stinkin physique? Just mass?

They come from the FU school, I'm from the other school of thought?

Good luck to his playing days? Not easy to play for your relatives sometimes?

IH, oh wise one? What will be the Sooners and Okie Lite's fate in all this mess in Big 12, can you tell me please? We will bottle it and make a mint, not the kind you eat either?

Cole Pensick didn't come as far as I'd hoped. I'm glad this Pelini kid has...

Nebraska has never had a team make it to the world series. wuldn't it be cool if the first was from out state.

South dakota just tied it up.

Posted by: rev.redd on August 13, 2011 7:21PM CST
SD just homered in the 5th. 2-2

Posted by: LosSantosKid on August 13, 2011 7:31PM CST
the outstate teams play together longer as a group and aren't as diluted as neighborhood teams in the metros...just sayin', i'm not surprised it's Kearney.

I almost forgot about "the other Mark Pelini".

Posted by: Herringbone on August 14, 2011 9:59AM CST
If his last name is Pelini, that's good enough for me.

Wow, never even heard his name-mining Cardinal Mooney-sall about culture. Nono-Carl has commented at least twice (one post practice sort of interview on Sports Nightly) and I think Carl gives much more info than Bo in general, Ray.

Cardinal Mooney - Cornhusker PIPELINE !!!!

Los, I think you're right but it has two junctions at the end of the pipeline?

A person by the name of Ron Stoops Sr. and Ron brother to Bob used to coach at Cardinal Mooney? So a Pelini and Stoops pipeline, I suspect?

Pelini and Stoops family very intertwined? Carl lived with Bob when both were coaching at KSU?
