Young Pelini in center mix

He's flown well off the radar to this point. Makes sense, considering he's only a redshirt freshman. Still, we're beginning to hear his name. Mark Pelini, nephew of Bo Pelini and Carl Pelini, is among four centers vying for the top two spots on the depth chart, Nebraska offensive line coach Barney Cotton said. Senior Mike Caputo is the prohibitive favorite to retain his starting role. Pelini, a redshirt freshman from Cardinal Mooney High in Youngstown, Ohio, is joined in the top four by sophomore Cole Pensick and true freshman Ryne Reeves. Bottom line, Cotton is looking for guys who can snap and step simultaneously. "A lot of guys can snap," the coach said. "If you can't snap and step left, or snap and step right, or shotgun and pull, move, pass-set and come off the ball, you'll have to be a guard or a tackle."
