West earns Blackshirt

Cornerback Anthony West is the latest Husker to earn a Blackshirt. He's been wearing one in practice this week.

"Two great games in a row where he came in and saved our butts," Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini said. "Played great football. We tell our guys you’re either a one or you’re playing at the level of a one. When Anthony takes the field there’s no letdown, there’s no dropoff. We’re very comfortable with him in there. He earned it.”

Silly question what's the most blackshirts ever earned on one team....there at 14 now...in years past how many have been earned?

Because you've often got positions like nickelback and dimeback which are used plenty, if not moreso these days, than the traditional 11 positions we think of on a defense. Like a guy like Eric Hagg. You have to give him a Blackshirt, but he's technically not a starting linebacker or safety or corner. He's a nickelback. But he plays the majority of snaps.
