Suh pub picks up
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on October 12, 2009 at 7:55PM CST

If this keeps up, we might need to start a "Life of the Suh" blog or something. Hey, I don't know how serious the talk will get about the big man and the Heisman chase.

But I do know this: It can't hurt that ESPN's "College GameDay" is working on a feature on Husker senior nose tackle Ndamukong Suh. I'm under the impression that will air Saturday, though that couldn't be confirmed. Also joining the Suh fanfare is "Sports Illustrated," which is sending a writer to Lincoln for an apparent article on the big man.

Holly Cow how many blogs can one man take?

Posted by: Ender on October 12, 2009 8:03PM CST
niiice, cant hurt to get some serious exposure.. some of these defensive recruits who may have had us outside the radar might consider taking a serious look

Posted by: HuskerBruin on October 12, 2009 8:10PM CST
Oh no, I just imagined Lee Corso and Lou Holtz trying to pronounce "Ndamukong."

Posted by: TheOneAndOnly on October 12, 2009 8:13PM CST
They'll go the "Mr. Suh" route that Craig James mentioned during the telecast on Thursday.

Posted by: BearsBeatPackers on October 12, 2009 8:13PM CST
We want nothing to do with SI and their curse on players/teams profiled by them. BTW, our big man is now a clickable option on the ESPN Heisman vote page.

http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/theheismanvote/2009/index

He's gone from 760 votes, #16 on the list, late this afternoon to 4750 votes, #8 on the list, as of this post.

Posted by: Ender on October 12, 2009 8:14PM CST
I'd just go the House of Spears route

Check this out, they are giving the Huskers some good pub in the power rankings this week also.

bread))) Did you see me making fun of you for drinking too much tequila and then going to sleep early after the game last Thursday?

You were in bed by 2 AM. Whats up with that? That tells me you really aren't a fan. You might be a Longwhorn fan.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 8:42PM CST
When you say "too much tequila"... is that supposed to be "too" or "to"?

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 12, 2009 8:44PM CST
Make that 2X counting the puter at work and then I will hit my coworker. We have quite a nest of Big Red fans amongst us die hard Tigers. The fb people down this way are really talking about Suh. When he took out the Mizzou qb in that flood, it got a lotta people's attention. In the SEC we do love an awesome DT.

Busie,
Have the nerves settled down?
You should get some kind of compensation for going through both games last week.

Can we arrange for NU & LSU to play a non-conference game? I'm not trying to make you schizophrenic or anything ...

This whole Big Suh thing is like a shot of adrenaline for the Huskers.

Here's Bo, coached Dorsey and got him to stay for another year and he was a monster and won the NC, he takes over at Nebraska and Suh stays for another year and is turning into a monster.

A players coach, hard nosed, but respected by the players.

It's all good and going to get better.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 8:58PM CST
Ex Eagles OC Jon Gruden is slurping HWSNBN as good a "teacher" as you will find in the NFL.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:00PM CST
BRG))) You nailed it. Teck will present a whole new set of problems for our front 4.

This will be the big test.

Steph, It is on the history channel. casue they are about to become history. (ABC)

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:02PM CST
Gruden also says HWSNBN is one of the best run game designers in the NFL. That could be... but we would never know.... for he decided to pass it all game long.... every single week.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 12, 2009 9:03PM CST
Albino: if that match up ever happens (and it will sooner more so than later) somebody will have to knock me out. I was a Husker fan when I got on LITR 2 yrs ago, now I'm as rabid as the PACT group. Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:06PM CST
BRG))) And it ain't all about the pass rush. They have an odd run game and shovel pass package that gets behind the rush if you try and get up field to get to that QB.

That package is as weird as their coach. And equally as effective.

I was wondering about the big splits in the O line that TT takes. I just can't wrap my mind around this. As a linebacker and defensive end in HS, I would be salivating over those splits. I mean, there's the QB in front of you and no one between you and him. What am I missing?

Gofor2)) It's all about the spread out part of the splits. It creates gaps... especially when the D rushes the QB too much.

Speaking of lackluster WR play... they just straight took them out for a series or two when they weren't getting open. I saw Bell and...

B R A N D O N - K I N N I E

in there early. They were in at the same time. Also saw Cooper in there for a few plays.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:15PM CST
Hey Gofor. Misery used big splits as well, maybe not quite as big as TT but big. The problem is that is spreads everyone on the defense out so far. Yes it does seem like it would be easy to just zip right thru those big splits but it's not that easy. The DE has to go almost twice as far to get to the QB, it creates just a tad more time for the QB. Also easier to create running lanes if you have the monsters to do it.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:18PM CST
Gofor2))) I'm not sayin you can't. Just sayin why they do it.

obtw... Mizzou also uses those ridiculous splits... but for some reason... they did not use them Vs us.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 12, 2009 9:20PM CST
Bo rattled the crap out of tech last year with about 1/2 of the defense he has this year. I am just having trouble being as worried as the rest of you.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 12, 2009 9:21PM CST
Help out an old man here. What was the TT Houston Score.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:22PM CST
They do have a unique package of screens and shovel passes and double options where you can pitch to the option back or to the shovel receiver. The problem they encounter is that our defense frequently drops off a member of the front four and brings someone off the edge. They have no idea as to when this may occur so it does create a possibility of a negative play on their part. The shovel is a great play because it is a relatively safe play for a pitch play. If it's not caught or knocked down it's just an incomplete pass.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:23PM CST
LSU))) No they have not seen a D like ours. We are the only Big12 team that won't blitz and we play Cover 2 virtually every play. No other Big12 team is like that.

Similar to the advantage we had with our option O... now we have that same advantage will our D. Nobody sees it till they see us.

Posted by: Gofor2 on October 12, 2009 9:25PM CST
Yeah Busie, that's a no win deal.
My dad was my coach when I was 13 to 16 y/o. It wasn't fun, he was a great guy and father, but I had a hard time dealing with his criticism which seemed to me to be harsher then the other players to prove I wasn't getting any favoritism and on the other hand the criticism of my teammates of him in the locker room when he wasn't around.
I finished playing in another system and it was a lot more fun.

Posted by: Gofor2 on October 12, 2009 9:27PM CST
GBRTX
Why can't you ignore their splits and line up tight on D?

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:28PM CST
BRG))) Just have to wait and see on what we will do to scheme against Teck.

My guess is... we'll do what we have been doing. Light rush... a few Zone Dogs... rarely blitz unless they get to the RZ. Thats Pelini for you right there. Pretty simple stuff.... yet... effective.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:30PM CST
So, what motel in Boulder did you say Hawk was now residing? Who knows how that evolved. Dad could have said that's enough, son could have said that's enough, Mama could have said that's enough. We'll never know and we probably shouldn't. Tough situation for sure.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 12, 2009 9:31PM CST
Thanks. I thought so. Houston is the only football team they have played and I think we are better than Houston no? I know our D is much better. Does Tech have a kicker worth a crap.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:32PM CST
You can line up wherever you want to... if you want to.

But basically you don't do that because... they could just check to a toss and have you flanked.

But tell that to Rex Ryan. He's got guys all over Hell's creation. They come from anywhere.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:32PM CST
Gofor, you can't give up the edge. If you line up inside across the board they will wash us down and run off the edge all day and will funnel the entire pass rush to the inside. Double Jeopardy.

Speaking of NO, where is No Nothing?

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:35PM CST

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:37PM CST
Yeah Step, the apple didn't fall far from the tree in the case of Ryan.

Posted by: Gofor2 on October 12, 2009 9:38PM CST
Thanks GBRTX
That explains it, that was commandment 1 as a D end, don't let anybody get around you.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:39PM CST
GBR))) It's amazing how effective that wash down with the Oline can be.

I think you said you were watching MNF. That ghost reverse that holds the DE... and then the wash down... is veeery effective.... and as simple as can be.

Jim Johnson used to blitz two guys over that C every time we played the Cowboys. And you knew Dallas was gonna counter. They would wash that whole thing down and just hand it off and the RB was Julius Jones... he would just curl it opposite the wash... and it was always a huge play. That was Bill Parcells. He would take out 6 defenders with 5 blockers with that wash.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:40PM CST
Exactly Gofor. Only today the guy that goes around you is bigger than the DT's you played with and as fast or faster than the fastest guys you played with. It's gettin' pretty scary how big these football players are getting these days.

Posted by: NUCORNDEVIL on October 12, 2009 9:43PM CST
I totally expect SUH to actually pick up the center and throw him @ the Tech QB. this game should produce the most interceptions by NU's Defense this century. as long as the offense can control the clock against a defense far worse than misery.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 12, 2009 9:43PM CST
GBRinTexas: lol, there are exceptions. Trindon Holliday #8, all 5 feet 5 inches. They can't kill 'em, cause they can't catch him. Such a beautiful sight to see him take off.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 12, 2009 9:44PM CST
No doubt. The Ryan family will blitz you to death. And if you get some big plays... they will just bring it more.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 12, 2009 9:45PM CST
Step, It's really pretty simple but getting them to make the gap call, or whatever line audible they would have, and echo it down the line is the hard part. Some get intimidated and remember to block down but if they don't communicate it someone is still left free.

Posted by: Gofor2 on October 12, 2009 9:45PM CST

Busie, that's sayin' something. I always hated chasing those little guys around that you couldn't catch. All they did was wear you out with nothing to show for it. I remember in high school we were playing Omaha South. They had a little speedster at wingback named Greg Yates, he ran a 9.4 100 yd dash and could just fly on the football field. We had them 3rd and 42, they gave it to Yates on a wingback reverse and we hemmed him in. He reversed field 3 times and then started upfield. By the time we tackled him he had gained 43 yards and a first down. We had to call timeout because most were gassed after that play.

BRG)))) Welp... yeah. You never know what you have till it's on the field. Everybody said McDaniels was an idiot and they were gonna suck. But McDaniels has it going so far. They made some moves and filled gaps(like Dawkins, Moreno). Denver looks good and should only get better from here on out.

It makes things easy when you have a Freak like Marshall out there.

As noted before... I barely consider the Heisman an award nowadays.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:06AM CST
Man, for DONU to have someone--Suh--receiving such accolades, and even in the Heisman discussion now, AFTER ALL WE'VE SUFFERED THROUGH the last 4-5 years(pre BO, that is) almost brings a tear to my eye.

FRIGGIN AWESOME!

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:09AM CST
Well, if Suh even gets invited to the award ceremony, let alone, wins it, I say the quality of the award and the voters has just raised it's stock, IMO.

I dunno, you cant blame them for normally voting for QBs and RBs, I guess....

But that Feldman guy says that having a DT lead a team in tackles is fairly unheard of, almost like having a 2500/yr rusher on the team.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:11AM CST
As of last staurday, when I 1st caught wind of the Nissan Poll, he wasnt even on the list, so it shows the impact he is now making and the TV game w Mizzou totally helped him, if he gets after TT, wow, well, maybe there will be too much hype then...

Harold Mobley

Tobi Okuyemi

Curtis Carter

Austin Hill

Then we'll save that last one and give Aaron Green two.

But Bob Swigert is verry high on us. Curtis Carter is my #1 guy and will be here this weekend. We like him... and he likes us.

Austin Hill might jump in also. Thats Aaron & Andrew Green's cousin.

Dechoz Wray, Corvin Lamb, Tyler Slavin, Chris Hawkins and BJ Chitty all have interest in Nebraska. Don't worry about WR. We'll get ours.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:27AM CST
I hope Gabby LITE DOES stick as a commit, could really use that guy actually, as a backup and eventual replacement to CG.

We need some serious receivers though, still, of the 9 commits I see on the rivals list, 5-6 or defensive guys...

we need another great RB too.

plus, s'up with that Martinez guy from Cali we picked up last year, havent heard his name at all of late.

Dudesman... some RB recruits we had this year claimed the coaches told them they already have their RB. Many believe thats Aaron Green from San Antonio Texas.

Another story had Austin Hill(Aaron's cousin) saying Aaron was "pointing" him to Nebraska.

Aaron is Andrew Green's brother.

He will be the highest rated recruit we've ever had. top 10 for sure.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:38AM CST

get ready for it... here it comes... what do you think the next line will be... and now for the climax of the post....

I knew Burkhead would be great and a fan fav early. But it's not some special ability I have. Anybody that saw that dude play would say the same thing.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:49AM CST
Have not seen Mendoza on the field much/at all this year which really surprises me, I mean, I think the guy is good...

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 2:51AM CST
The only thing I can see Burk doesnt have is break away speed, otherwise, yea, he looks like a serious gamer, finds the hole real well and has some unique looking juke in his step, all around fundamentally very sound football player for sure.

just wish he was faster is all.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 2:55AM CST
Yeah... 20111.

We have two of the bestest Oline recruits from that year already. Tyler Moore and Ryne Reeves.

Here you go.

Look at the change of direction on this guy... and thats a legit 4.4. He has NFL written all over him.

Looks like GBR is a 7-10 point fav, not sure if I'm reading the line right, cant always decifer those things...

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 2:57AM CST
No doubt... Burkhead is a 4.6 guy.

Thats why he was only a 3 or 4* recruit.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:00AM CST
yea, that Aaron Green makes those other guys look like they are standing still...

how is it he's interested in us again?

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:01AM CST
Reading the lines is simple. The team on the left has to win by the points int the middle. The team on the right gets the points in the middle. The home team is in bold.

Now... baseball... and hockey are different.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:02AM CST
oh, i see, we got his bro andrew green, for some reason I thought he'd gone to OU.

Aaron Greens cousin... Andrew Green... chose us over OU last year. He's on our team. He almost played this year... and is one of our better CB's. But he's getting redshirted. He's from SA also.

The Green guys have another cousin... in Cali named Austin Hill. He's from Corona Cali. We have 4 of their players visitng us in a couple of weeks. Anyways... like I said... Austin Hill has said Aaron Greeen was pointing him towards NU. And other Rb's in this class... 2010... say our coaches broke it off saying that they alreadt had their RB.

Everybody is fairly sure that RB is Aaron Green. I think he's ours/ other experts... including Texas' guru... Dave Campbell say Aaron Green is a Husker.

The open line is the line that Vegas puts out to make the betting money from the public even.

So... in other words... Vegas thinks that Nebraska being favored by 6.5 points would make the money even.

The current lines are how the money is being bet. That 6.5 point spread has moved with the public money bet. Now it's 10 points. Thats due to cash pouring in on Nebraska.

If the public money went in on Teck... the line would have moved to 4 or 5. instead of 10.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:18AM CST
hmmm, clear as mud, i dont bet, so i dont really care, but why dont they just say in plain english: "NE by 7 or something"...

anyhoo, TG's Bulls are 2-4 whereas Frankies Bobs are 4-2.

The Bulls have had a fairly rough sched.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:21AM CST
Thats what is says in betting English.

Nebraska opened as a 6.5 fav. Now it's a 10 point fav moved by the money.

Nebraska is a 10 point fav if you want to bet right now.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:21AM CST
I should bet, maybe, I went 10/10 in the pick em thread last week, and generally over the years have maintained a pretty high % in my predictions...

The point spread is the kicker though, makes it tougher.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:22AM CST
well, looking at it on paper, I cant tell which is the fav team and which is the dog, so I will have to school myself i guess...

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:24AM CST
Truth be told... hopefully... Gill has a down year... Watson leaves for CU... then we get Gill as OC.

Thats in a perfect world.

But I know you like Watson... and you can't stand Gill. So I won't mention that.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:27AM CST
ha ha, i'd rather have wats as the OC than gill, think he's in another league, actually than Gill, but i know u r not into wats....

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:29AM CST
The team on the left is the fav.

You bet that line makes it difficult! Thats what it's all about. Anybody can pick winners. Thatr line makes it tough.

I am a Master of picking winners. Yet I only hit 53% of the time Vs the line.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:29AM CST
Its not that I cant stand gill, i dont know where u got that, think he would be a heckuva HC, just not as an OC, IMO.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:31AM CST
whaddya think of that FSU/GT game last weekend, that was pretty redunkulous, imo, no D at all and FSU tanks again...Bowden is gonzo after this yr, no way they let him back...

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:32AM CST
dude, the lines i'm looking at have the teams listed above one another, there is no 'left'

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:33AM CST
Just kidding about you hating Gill.

I'd actually rather have Tim Beck in there. But I'd take Gill. He's a good coach.

Welp.... I'm out. Gots to run to IHOP and meet my pal. Hopefully he has some gilrs with him that I can lure back to my house with the promise of drugs and alcohol. If not... there'a always tomorrow. I like sodomy.

GBR

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:33AM CST
yea, the point spread makes it pretty tough, I pikced all the winners last week, but was about 50 50 on the point spreads, some I nailed and others didnt.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:35AM CST
I dont make enough scratch to blow on betting, I like my work but am sick of working actually, at this stage of my life....

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 3:36AM CST
"I like sodomy"??!!! oooo-k, maybe a TMI violation there for a sports blog, LOL!

latrz...

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on October 13, 2009 3:39AM CST
The first team listed is the fav. They are in front of the (-). The second team... behind the (+) is the dog. It's much easier that you are making it.

If it says...

NEBRASKA

-10

Texas Tech

Nebraska is favored by 10.

If it says... Texas Tech

-10

NEBRASKA

then Tech is favored.

The home team is in BOLD.

The first team listed is favorwed by the points that follows. The dog gets the points in front of it. It's that simple.

This just in.
Jason Peter still not impressed with Suh.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 7:29AM CST
Jason Peter is only impressed w himself is what I see...

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on October 13, 2009 7:43AM CST
I would say that Jason Peter sees all the ability that big Suh has and thinks that he could be MUCH better than he is. I'm sure he thinks Man if I had all that ability, I would have been all world! Don't read much into what Peter says, I for one think big Suh can be even better than he is! That said he is pretty damn good now!

Posted by: charger on October 13, 2009 7:44AM CST
i hear what yur saying. too bad he is unable to reconize that the style of playing has changed some what. Anything this team does isn't good enough in his eyes. This is year 2 and they are beging to restore the old traditions. Some may not be the same, but tradition non the less.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 7:46AM CST
Bill King(Rivals Radio) this a.m. said Suh is playing the DT position as well as it can be played--all inclusive. SO< I guess it's just a matter of how much more you want outta the guy, if he gets 3INTs, people want 4, etc, etc...

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 7:50AM CST
Jason Peter's blog has more, way more, than the average # of woman posting, if ya know what I mean. They spend alot of time talking about drug addictions and all their relations effected by that....and Jason's book.

Posted by: Stone on October 13, 2009 7:59AM CST
Saints waived QB Chase Daniel today to make room for kicker Garrett Hartley. Nice to see my Saints finally came to their senses. Booger boy is now free to find a job in another industry.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 8:14AM CST
I always said that Booger's future is as a backwards ballcap model, he takes great care in his look there...

Posted by: PT Husker on October 13, 2009 8:14AM CST
Morning Troops. I listened to Jason Peter for the first time last week while I was in Lincoln. sorry but I was not impressed. Kind of a loud mouth and really negative.

Just my impression.

Posted by: bruNo on October 13, 2009 8:17AM CST
"blah blah, I was on the best team in history..." yada yada, thats cool but move on already....

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on October 13, 2009 8:36AM CST
Tuesday, Oct 13th, this morning, Mr. Suh, is in First Place on the ESPN Heisman vote, 188 votes ahead of the second place runner up!

Posted by: Sandhill on October 13, 2009 8:53AM CST
That's what happens when Husker Nation finds a poll to vote their guy or team to the top. We rule as CFB's greatest fans!
Go Big Suh! Go Bo! GBR!!!

Posted by: Mentally Red on October 13, 2009 9:08AM CST
Maybe one of these reporters can figure out why Suh runs off the field immediately at the end of the game and then comes back out. My theory is that he calls his family right after each game.

Posted by: Father of future Husker on October 13, 2009 9:12AM CST
SI.com has Suh as #2.

big Suh is way ahead
Try 1000 votes man

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on October 13, 2009 9:52AM CST
Jason Peter is entilted to his opinion, and when Husker teams roll out onto the field as great as the 95 squad. He'll have to share the glory of being elite with others.
It's almost natural to have a animosity towards someone when they come into your exclusive world....Take it with a grain of salt.
The guy knows football, but he isn't the end all be all. Just a thought

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on October 13, 2009 10:07AM CST
Awesome power rankings this week

Posted by: Tice on October 13, 2009 11:08AM CST
Suh #1 by 4300 votes now

Posted by: TomMe3 on October 13, 2009 1:21PM CST
Gene Menez, an SI columnist, has Suh ranked as his #2 Heisman candidate. Not sure he even has a vote. He says: "Without question the most mind boggling Suh fact is that he is tied for sixth in the country at passes defended (1.6 per game), a list dominated by defensive backs; no other lineman ranks in the top 97." Very impressive! Speaking of impressive, who is NU's holder on extra point attempts. He had some phenomenal gets on two bad snaps in the Mizzou game. One was way behind his back. Props to that young man!

Its TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE - The Big Red getting nat'l pub!! Timmy Tebone to the back page!! On another note - CAN'T WE RUN IN THE RAIN!! OH, thats right, O Line recruited by Callasham. But wait, O Line coach, Barney C. is from the previous tradition! Does Dr. Watson have a clue? OH, thats right he makes 1/4 mil+ a year!! He must know what he's doing!!
