Suh: 'I'm an agile 305-pound man'
Posted by: Steve Sipple on December 15, 2010 at 8:25AM CST

The folks at Yahoo! Sports used their Flip Video cam for a worthwhile Q & A with Ndamukong Suh.

The former Nebraska defensive tackle is having an excellent rookie season with the NFL Detroit Lions. As was the case at NU, he's seeing a lot of double-teams, he said.

"I think I've gotten my fair share, without a doubt," he said in the interview.

But that's OK, he said, because it frees up his teammates to make plays.

Suh earlier this month was fined $15,000 for his hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Suh was asked if referees might target him a bit given his knack for big hits.

"I'm a very fast, agile 305-pound man," he said. "Big collisions are going to happen."

The first one was OK. the 2nd was just a good clean hard hit. Get used to it Refs. You are gonna see it for a long long time.

what a football player!

Posted by: LionsFan on December 15, 2010 8:37AM CST
Suuuhhhhh! Love this guy and the other former Huskers playing for the Lions. Really wish they would draft Amukamara as they desparately need help in that secondary. By the way, that penalty/fine for Suh's hit on Cutler was pure B.S.

Posted by: PT Husker on December 15, 2010 8:40AM CST
If memory serves me, he is appealing that.

Posted by: futbol21_NUfan on December 15, 2010 8:45AM CST
I would hope that he's appealing that. All he did was push him to the ground. yes it was violent but what do you expect when one guy is 305 lbs compared to just around 200lbs. if you dont want to get hit dont leave the safety of the pocket (which even there you can not stop SUH ha ha)... i honestly do not even watch the NFL really because its turning into such a boys sport.

Posted by: eddie again on December 15, 2010 9:06AM CST
i did not see the play. did cutler have the ball when suh tackled him?

Posted by: Bawn Froning on December 15, 2010 9:18AM CST
Eddie, Cutler had the ball and was running downfield. He was past the line of scrimmage, and Suh shoved him with 2 hands to the ground.

The ref, Ed Hochuli, called it a forearm to the back of Cutler, but it couldn't have been since both of Suh's arms extended as he shoved him. BS call, all the way around. If Cutler was a running back, they wouldn't have called it at all.

Posted by: CBHusker on December 15, 2010 9:22AM CST
Somehow a ref who saw Suh hit a runner diving forward with his open hand on the back of the shoulder pads- decided he hit the runner with a forearm on the back of the helmet. Just because he was a QB. This stuff is getting stupid. Instead of giving defensive players credit for plays they're paid to make, the NFL is arbitrarily punishing them to "protect" offensive players.

The hypocrisy of doing this while insisting it's safe to expand the season to 18 games is incredible.

The lawyers who run the league now are trying to cover up the fact they ignored head injuries for years while making a money grab that risks the health of players far more than any one hit.

And their justification for penalties like this?

"It's for the good of the game."

Good for the size of their wallets is more like it.

Mr. Suh - You are a genetic mutant. Someone carrying as much mass as you are should not be able to move as quickly as you do. You have been blessed physically. You have also been blessed to have parents to keep you grounded and instill a good work ethic in you. You were also blessed to have Coach Pelini and his staff show up when they did to help develop your skill level to match your physical ability.

Congratulations on all of your accomplishments. You deserve everything you have earned.

thanks guys for the info.

typical nfl bs.

sometimes i think their refs are are worse than bevo and the cows' refs.

Posted by: LosSantosKid on December 15, 2010 10:10AM CST
Go Big CB!

But do you believe the lawyers run the league or simply just call it what is...Disney-ABC-ESPN and the PC weener crowd.

On a different note, seen this yet? Doesn'l look like Vandy is going to take watson off our hands.

Thanks for the link TJ1. The last line was pretty telling: Vanderbilt is trying to replace Robbie Caldwell, who was forced to resign Nov. 27 at the end of a 2-10 season.

Seems to me there is a OC at a great university looking for an opportunity. We'll have to see.

Trying to find a list of the available head coaching positions. Anyone know them off the top of their head? I know N. Illinois has now been filled as well.

Suuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh!

Absolute greatness.

LosSantosKid,

Saw your reference to my favorite Solzhenitsyn quote on the last thread. Just wanted to thank you for it. That book should be required reading for every freshman in high school.

Posted by: HuskerBuckFever on December 15, 2010 10:40AM CST
N_trepid: Shouldn't you say "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" instead of Suh? It would definitely fit your avatar!

Posted by: TJ1 on December 15, 2010 10:42AM CST
HuskerBuck, I don't know what is still open but I don't think it is going to matter much.

I find it interesting that the Maryland guy's offense is currently ranked 85th in the country as opposed to our 35th in total offense. Vandy must have watched the Big12 CCG as well.

Wonder what is special about the Maryland guy? Anyone know?

Posted by: N_trepid on December 15, 2010 10:48AM CST
"WHEEEEEEEEEE!"

Posted by: N_trepid on December 15, 2010 10:49AM CST
That'll be five dollars.

Posted by: CBHusker on December 15, 2010 10:49AM CST
LSK-
Right on the money. The sad part is, in their greed, these jokers are doing things that in the long run are going to make the NFL less valuable.

I've got no problem with getting rid of obvious cheap head shots, but 80% of the fines have been on stuff that couldn't be helped.

Let 'em play FOOTBALL.

Posted by: Jedi Husker on December 15, 2010 10:50AM CST
N_trepid,

Now put them both together, and what do you get?

Suuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh-WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Here piggy piggy piggy!

LM(305 lb agile man)AO!

Go Big Suh!

No wonder you are the Jedi! Well played. Well played.

Jedi,

*howling!*

I am glad that one made you folks smile. We need to remember that life is good, and smiling and laughter are a big part of that. Along with a good pig squeal now and then.

I am actually an Air Force brat, but I was lucky enough to spend a whole summer working on a farm during my formative youth. Gotta love a good pig call. :>)

I don't imagine there are too many NFL quarterbacks brave enough to unleash one when they face the Lions, though!

Go Big Suh-Whee!

I hate that we are moving to the Big 10, just hate it...

Posted by: Mark in Denver on December 15, 2010 12:56PM CST
Defensive players should get bonus checks for every single hard hit on Jay George Cutler. The guy is the biggest whinny crybaby wuss maybe ever in the NFL...except for his big brother Jeff George.

Cutler is a LOSER and Suh is THE MAN!

Posted by: fanfromgeorgia on December 15, 2010 2:52PM CST
hochuli, that is the same name of one of the "screw crews" ref, sounds fishy....

Posted by: Wrestler on December 15, 2010 2:55PM CST
Suh, is the consummate FB player?

Why, such status? Yes, god given innate talents and skills, with a physical DNA structuring of value for his craft, but that's just part of the story?

The bigger part, is his work ethic and dedication to his craft, of desiring to be the best? As in a Kobe, or any athlete that combines their innate talents, with their work ethics?

Dan Gable in wrestling, always attributed his success, to his work ethic, of out working and conditioning, his opponent?

"The harder I work, the luckier I get" concept?

So yes a 305 lb agile, fantastic FB player? You can be any size and be agile, if you know how to train and even using the right wt. lifting techniques?

I know, I workout with a world class wt. lifter, everyday at around 350 lbs., that when he is throwing up those clean and jerks and snatches with unbeliveable weight, and with such precision and execution, his agility in doing so, is amazing for such a big man?

So with all athletes, in their respective sports, the bigger men need to be agile also, for being the very best, as to what they do?

No one, epitomizes it better for a bigger man, than Suh in FB? He's the man! And his character, is cut from the same cloth, as TO's, which makes him really special to me?

Class personified, for Huskernation in Suh, what a great poster boy, for Big Red to have?

GBR! Zhou Da Hong!
