'Snyder scheduling' returns
Posted by: Steve Sipple on August 3, 2010 at 3:54PM CST

Kansas State and Oregon have canceled their football series scheduled for 2011 and 2012, K-State announced Tuesday.

K-State athletic director John Currie announced the decision in a letter to fans posted on K-State's website. Neither school will owe a financial penalty, he said.

The Wildcats were scheduled to open the 2011 season in Eugene, Ore., with the Ducks visiting Manhattan in 2012. Currie cited the possibility of a nine-game conference schedule as reason for the change.

"I am confident that we will reach our goal of having seven home games in 2011, but there are still a few moving parts," Currie wrote. "We are still on track to have our 2011 schedule in place and announced in the near future."

K-State still has a home-and-home series scheduled against Miami in 2011 and 2012, though you have to wonder whether those games will meet the fate of the Wildcats-Ducks series.

Snyder Scheduling -- I like that. It's a philosophy taken to an extreme. I'm guessing Oregon was the biggest challenge on their non-conference schedule for those years.

On another KSU note, it looks like they may have both Brown brothers transferring in. Lots of talent in those two. Don't know about their attitudes, though.

Does anyone here really care? Synder is a class act who will do what he needs to do to rebuild his program.

Posted by: Utah4NU on August 3, 2010 4:04PM CST
copy that ray!

Get rid of Oregon and add (any Div 1-AA) team. That insures a chance at a bowl game for those two years.

Bravo Bill, way to help strengthen the Big 12(-2) non-conference schedule. The Whorns & Sooners will love seeing this story. More TV time for them.

Haha - at least this is the last year of the Pedey-Shine scheduling. Thankfully, because this year's NU schedule looks almost as bad as KSU's old schedules.

Hey, maybe we can pick up Ducks in 11/12. Might be a nice way to buttress our new B10/P10 identity.

Speaking of Washington, I just watched a food show.

With around a dozen locations around Seattle, looks like "Cowgirls Coffee" is a must stop.

Especially on "Fantasy Day" Friday.

Bryan, I read a little on Bryce Brown on Espn. You're right, I don't like his attitude either. Plus, his father, from what I took from it, sounds like he's his mouthpiece. Was'nt this the same kid who stayed up in Elkhorn for a while?

Posted by: Bloozman on August 3, 2010 5:19PM CST
Hey, it worked for him before. The Huskers didn't exactly play the top ten every year either. We were beating up on some pretty shabby teams from the 70's on. Utah State, New Mexico, Minnesota, etc. We did play some teams we thought we'd have no problems with, but got beat anyway. We've never been innocent of this.

Trash, I just went to their website. It is worth a look.

haha: No RedDog77 is right Oku went to high school in Lincoln but Bryce Brown has family in Elkhorn that he was staying with for a while last spring.

Callasham left us with absolutely no room to mock anyone else's scheduling.

Happily, this will be the last year for it.

Didn't Bryce Brown commit to Tennessee, then Miami? What happened?

Posted by: HuskerBruin on August 3, 2010 5:49PM CST
ESPN reporting that Suh and Lions have just come to terms on a 5-year $60 million contract. They are just nailing down the language.

SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Posted by: N_trepid on August 3, 2010 5:53PM CST
Ah, his brother was at Miami.

Homesick?

Posted by: Brian Rosenthal on August 3, 2010 5:55PM CST
The mocking isn't necessarily the scheduling of cupcakes itself; it's the act of dropping name teams already scheduled in search of more cupcakes.

If memory serves me correctly, K-State dropped Fresno State from its 2008 schedule. A home game, at that. No Big 12 team should be dropping Fresno State from its schedule in search of a lesser opponent. Ever.

I seem to remember us dumping Houston a few years ago.

Texas backed out of the Minn football schedual.

Brian,

point well taken.

Husker bruin,

See I told you he was holding out until they announced the parking fees and then once announced, he would sign.

Don't follow a false prophet like trash.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on August 3, 2010 6:26PM CST
I agree with Ray. Snyder is a good man and a good solid coach. No need to hate on the man. No reason at all.

Posted by: Blackshirtsdef on August 3, 2010 6:27PM CST
People should be wary of K-state in the North this year!

Count on it.

Posted by: N_trepid on August 3, 2010 6:35PM CST
He turned around the worst program in the nation. Yes, Snyder's a good coach.

The Big XII is packed with good coaches. Be interesting to see what Turner Gill will do at KU.

Posted by: big red 1 on August 3, 2010 6:38PM CST
Yes but it is going to take him a year or so to rebuild. Our main threat will be Texass !

Posted by: Low Country Husker on August 3, 2010 6:54PM CST
Our Main threat starts with Western Kentucky and ends with Colorado. Nobody can be over looked, Iowa State proved that last year. You can say that game was a fluke...but somebody was creating those turn overs.

Bill Snyder proved a long time ago do not under estimate him or his team.

Posted by: Uncle Fester on August 4, 2010 3:56AM CST
Mr. Rosenthal --

It's not only that; it is also this: "Currie cited the possibility of a nine-game conference schedule as reason for the change." The possibility of a 9 game schedule--not the fact
of one--is enough to cause them to cancel. Really.

But in their defense, it doesn't look like Oregon put up much of a fight to keep the games, either.

Ray, et al.: Let's stipulate that Snyder's a class act and all that. That's not germane to the point, though, in my opinion.

I'm up early, so I'm posting at a crazy hour.

Trash,

We have some topless (with a well placed sticker) thong drive thru esspresso stands.

One of my buddies had to ban his guys from going there when they are on the road during work hours, he hasn't been able to enforce it very well.

Out here in Oregon, it looks like the KSU dropping of the game is heading towards, Oregon playing LSU at Jerryworld to start 2011.

Posted by: bigcajunhusker on August 4, 2010 9:02AM CST
Reddog77 -- I think you are mistaken about "dropping" Houston. There were some discussions with Houston that NU withdrew from, but there never was an agreement to play. Houston wailed about us backing out of the discussions, and did everything but call us "yeller", but there never was an agreement for us to back out of.

Posted by: huskermike on August 4, 2010 12:55PM CST
texas and minnesota aren't going to play because the big ten holds rights to their game films. texas was going to use the film for their coaches show. the big ten won't let them. texas decided not to play them. i can see the big ten causing trouble for a lot of games with this policy.

Posted by: Bornhusker on August 4, 2010 1:26PM CST
Let's see if I've got this straight:

1) In 2009, despite finishing 2nd in the Big 12 North, KSU wasn't bowl eligible because they didn't have enough wins over 1-A teams.
2) In 2011 and '12, KSU is dropping a 1-A team from it's schedule.

Maybe Bill likes spending the holidays at home.

Probably been posted already, but if anyone's interested the 2010 media guide finally showed up online (PDF) at http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=204972577

Posted by: Codger on August 4, 2010 6:42PM CST
Just a FYI. After Oregon dropped K-State, they picked up LSU in the Jerry dome to replace them.

Cut it any way you want to, but cupcake scheduling in the name of more home games, is still cupcake scheduling.
