Regent chair doesn't know of any Big Ten offer
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on June 9, 2010 at 6:18PM CST
Just finished talking with Bob Phares. He's the chairman of Nebraska's Board of Regents and was part of the Executive Committee that met today and decided to add conference affiliation talk to this Friday's regent meeting agenda.

I asked Phares about reports circulating through cyberspace that Nebraska's Board of Regents have agreed to move to the Big Ten and that a formal announcement Nebraska is leaving will come Friday.

Phares answer: “First of all, there are several factual errors. No. 1, there’s been no vote by the board at all. No. 2, as I understand it, there are no invitations that are extended. You decide if you wish to make an application and then they react to your application.

"And I heard that there were reports that Tom Osborne had advised all of his staff that it was a done deal. You can talk to Tom and see what his comment is. I would be immensely surprised if that was the case, because as I said there’s been no vote by the board and no formal decision.”

The Journal Star has spoken to coaches from three different sports who said there has been no meeting with Osborne since last Friday.

This process seems to be moving forward rapidly, but there do seem to be some premature reports floating about.

***Update: Another statement from the University of Nebraska:

"A report being circulated this afternoon among sports media stating that the University of Nebraska Board of Regents 'met informally' today and have 'agreed to move to the Big Ten' is not accurate. Members of the Board's executive committee met via conference call to discuss the agenda for Friday's meeting. Such meetings routinely take place prior to Board meetings. At its meeting on Friday, the Board will be briefed on UNL athletic conference alignment and consider a resolution. No action was taken during today's conference call, and none will be taken prior to Friday's meeting."

Isn't Phares being a little disingenuous? We won't be "applying" and involving the Board of Regents unless we received encouragement to apply.

Posted by: NishBigRed on June 9, 2010 6:32PM CST
Brian,
Here in Vegas (ESPN Sports Talk) there saying its official.
The Board of Regents will announce on Friday that DONU has been offered a membership in the Big 10.

cough....Chip Brown....cough

Posted by: Low Country Husker on June 9, 2010 6:34PM CST
wow it's so hard to keep a secret with all this technology.

Brian...if this becomes reality when would the huskers start playing in the Big 10?

Posted by: N_trepid on June 9, 2010 6:35PM CST
What did we get for throwing in with Texas?

Every bit of our Big Eight history, tradition, records and rivalries flushed down the toilet, and a league dictatorship run out of Austin.

Thanks for nothing.

See ya.

chip brown at orangebloods was on espn, saying that texas president/ad told their coaches that nebraska was gone, and the big 12 was basically dead.

however, even on the interview, it's hard to tell between the information that brown got from his sources, and just his own speculation.

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 6:37PM CST
it's pretty sloppy journalism, actually.

Posted by: RedBall on June 9, 2010 6:39PM CST
Man either quite a few Board members are in the closet or something is way off base in these reports.

Posted by: DebTu on June 9, 2010 6:41PM CST
All that whining from TX--the Big 12 could certainly add another team if NU is the only one to leave.

Posted by: HuskerInCO on June 9, 2010 6:43PM CST
Maybe UT is just trying to stir this all up so they can say they had a 'reason' to go to the Pac 10?

Posted by: PT Husker on June 9, 2010 6:46PM CST
Deb, I am still holding out hope that the Big 10 does not react. Not much however.

Posted by: Brian Christopherson on June 9, 2010 6:49PM CST
I'd guess we're on our way to a Nebraska-Big Ten merger with a share of sloppy journalism -- throwing stuff against walls and seeing if it sticks -- along for the ride. Obviously, it's easy to guess the regents will agree with Tom and Harvey. But I am quite sure no vote has been taken.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on June 9, 2010 6:51PM CST
Osborne said that he was getting tired of the whole deal, and will be glad to put it to bed as soon as possible. That's good enough for me, although others seem to enjoy the turmoil. But until something definite happens, like an offer from the Big 10, the speculation is just pointless. Phew on the whole blown-out-of-proportion process.

Posted by: CurtB2 on June 9, 2010 6:52PM CST
HuskerinCo... wise words you have uttered. If anyone is noticing, most all the News saying huskers left have come from Texas and that orange blob blog.
Not to say dr. Tom and harvey Esquire aren't good poker players, but really is the Big 10 doing its nebraska negotiation via Austin???:)

Posted by: Low Country Husker on June 9, 2010 6:52PM CST
Brian

if NU moves to the Big 10 when would become effective?

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on June 9, 2010 6:56PM CST
Brian. I say again, I am not criticizing anything printed by the LJS staff. I just wish the reallignment discussions had been left to the educational institutions to deliberate in private. When there was something factual to announce, we would then be informed like the good ole days before the internet hystery.

Posted by: Bohemian Ace on June 9, 2010 6:56PM CST
Just came accross this story. Very interesting.

Exactly what would you like to focus on instead....it's normally a very quiet time of the year.

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 7:01PM CST
Hey BC,

Wasn't calling out LJS when i said "sloppy journalism." You guys have been great. I was calling out Chip Brown. just to be clear. You're my BOY, BC!

Posted by: CurtB2 on June 9, 2010 7:04PM CST
it took them about 3 years to get Penn State integrated fully.looking at future schedules they might be able to get pretty well into it for football in 2 years.

Posted by: NishBigRed on June 9, 2010 7:04PM CST
ESPN radio is reporting USC/NCAA will be having a press conferences to announce USC is getting a one year probation for violations regarding Reggie Bush.

Go get em TX the Pac 10 is prime for you taking.

Posted by: HuskerBruin on June 9, 2010 7:06PM CST
BC - But if you're the one who's the first to report it, even if you don't have reliable sources, you still get to drive more traffic to your subscription-based website. Is it a coincidence every third tweet by Chip Brown is an advertisement for a special offer to sign up for his website?

Posted by: Sandlizard on June 9, 2010 7:09PM CST
There's a great quote in the 1995 Sports Illustrated article on the demise of the Southwest Conference.

"the only thing anyone will remember about it—except that at least one of its member schools was usually on probation and the majority of its players free on bond."

If read the whole article you will see where Texas was spawned and the lengths they will go to in Texas to win. The conference was a nest of crooks and rotten eggs. Why did the Big 8 ever get involved with these guys?

Dr. Tom was right then and he is right now, time to go.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1007325/1/index.htm

Posted by: HuskerBruin on June 9, 2010 7:09PM CST
Nish - They're celebrating in the streets of South Central L.A. that it was only a one year probation. If that's the case, that's an extremely gracious sanction. Then again, I went to UCLA.

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 7:14PM CST
Well... since we've got a couple days before the formal announcement it looks like...

Let's talk recruits. Are all of our guys still on board? What about Texas QB Jamal Turner? Does he still want to wear red and white now that we're in the Big 10?

Posted by: Low Country Husker on June 9, 2010 7:20PM CST
I can't think of anyone that likes competition that wouldn't like the chances to compete against teams like PSU, tOSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, among others. Plus the vacation sites for bowl games just took an amazing upswing. The academic side is just off the charts....

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 7:23PM CST
don't for get michigan and (fingers crossed) notre dame.

i don't mind playing michigan state either. it's the minnesota/illinois games that i'm not looking forward to.

There are LIARS and damn LIARS. .. Phares is a damn, LIAR.

Also, it is hysterical how dismissive 1620 and there hacks, Severin and Kugler were to the Big 10 story. . .and how WRONG they are. . . .just because they didn't have the information first. . .or second. . .. or 10th.. .. . the ESPN station in Kearney had it by 3:00. . .LMFAO

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 7:24PM CST
br1: i hope so. we'll see the whole "recruiting in texas" theory put to the test.

Posted by: big red 1 on June 9, 2010 7:27PM CST
Boom: I honestly don't think it will drop off that much.Bo has a great relationship with all the high schools we recruit out of down there.

Posted by: NishBigRed on June 9, 2010 7:32PM CST
I half full/half empty?
USC gets only one year for similar violations that got SMU the death penalty.

It's good to know that you can't get away with paying players to play for you, sort of.

It's a slap on the wist, but at least it something

Posted by: DebTu on June 9, 2010 7:36PM CST
PT: I'll be sorry to leave the Big 12, but I had business ties to a lot of folks in the Ann Arbor area. Many friendly bets when NU played Michigan. Had a few professional contacts with other universities in the Big 10, too. So I feel okay about the move. And research partnerships . . . could do a lot for NU. Not all bad.

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 9, 2010 7:36PM CST
I just realized if the oklahoma schools go to the PAC 10, there will be two OU's, and two OSU's in the PAC 10. weird.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on June 9, 2010 7:37PM CST
I was hoping this woudln't come to pass...but since it apparently will, when do tickets for Ohio St. vs NU in Lincoln in 2011 go on sale?

BTW...don't buy that Texas wanted to end up in the P10. They are behind the SEC and B10 in $$ generated on the TV contracts.

Posted by: NishBigRed on June 9, 2010 7:37PM CST
Boom,
I'm sure we will still be playing in the Big 12 for a couple more years so Jamal Turner should get a couple of games in the Jerry Dome as well as make home in TX, @AM, TT and Baylor.

Posted by: DebTu on June 9, 2010 7:39PM CST
I suppose they could call it the Big 10s. Wonder if they will seek out a few more partners. Is Mizzou really left out?

Posted by: Miami Beach Husker on June 9, 2010 7:40PM CST
Ray from Bellevue,

We need you to clear your head just a bit...

This is just the most significant story for Nebraska athletics in just, oh, 100 years or so.

Loved the 5 national championships, but they were not as significant in the big scheme of things as Big Red moving to the far more prestigious and academically minded Big 10 conference.

It will also impact every game we play for the rest of our lives Ray. That's all.

Fall camp opens in 60 days, but we know that already.

Ray, hang in there. This is a good thing if you love Nebraska for many many reasons.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on June 9, 2010 7:41PM CST
they will probably keep calling it the Big 10 and just find a clever way to impose a 12 in the logo like they do with the number 11 on their current logo.

Posted by: 4BigRed on June 9, 2010 7:42PM CST
Wikipedia has now taken off NU. Mustof been a joker on there.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on June 9, 2010 7:45PM CST
Rluben have you been hacking into the wikipedia server again?

Posted by: drivebyposter on June 9, 2010 7:45PM CST
So Nebraska makes it the big 12 midwest.

Nice. It is all over everywhere so it must be true.

Also the latest from the west coast is the pac ten did the "take the south" as a smokescreen. And they will take Utah and Colorado.

Also nice.

Texas can pick up TCU and Houston and truly be the Texas 12. The wagondrivers and the cowboys back to the north.

12 is the magic number.

Go little texas doggies.

Posted by: NishBigRed on June 9, 2010 7:46PM CST
Silicon,
One has to feel for TX, they reported to their players they did everything possible to salvage the Big 12.
Hopefully the TX kids have learned a lesson that arrogance doesn't always pay off.

Posted by: DebTu on June 9, 2010 7:47PM CST
You know, I never noticed the 11 on their logo. Come to think of it, not a very memorable logo either.

Mr. Devil,
You might be correct.
I hope not.
I am worried that we will not longer be able to tap into the talent in TX.
The Husker use to get a lot of recruits from the East Coast as well.
See Mike Rozier and Irvin Fryer.
Seems as Bo has done ok with the recruits he has gotten.
It will be interesting to see if we can still pull some recruits from TX in the future.

Gut reaction:
Huskers to Big 10

Missery stays put. No invite.

Texas stays put. They're not ready to share the lime light with USC and UCLA when they have it all to themselves in the 12.

12 adds a team to replace NU.

Genius move by TO if it pans out.

Warning: Don't play poker with TO

Nothing is funnier than Creighton fan smack. Maybe it will break out the NCAA tourney wins or talk about that CWS run back before it was born?

GO little bluejay in a BIG RED STATE!!!!

Number of posts MBH reminds us how much he is happy to get rid of Texas (or how we called their bluff) or that we're going to the Big 10 or pasted news threads from other sources.

Over/under still @ 100 even from this point on...

It's now on yahoo news, so it must be everywhere by now. Haven't heard other than on this thread anything of ND, although the yahoo story is from good ol orangebloods, which said that the pac10 will accept the six applications from Texas and its entourage. If that were the case, then I guess it would speed the big10 process up to add all those teams as well. Probably pure speculation though. No facts to back any of it up.

Notre Dame game in South Bend: Husker Nation took over their house. It was a sea of red, never been done before at ND.

I went to the game with a ND friend, track guy, who ran the first sub 4 mile there. We sat in a special letterman's section. They were stunned by Husker Nation.

you watch trash

CU and Utah will be in the pac ten errrrrrrrrr12

The texas two steppers will have to salvage the big 12. Easy to do actually and they can still be king errrrrrrrrrrrr queen.

Just move the wagon drivers and the little boys to the north....get tcu and Houston

and now you have a true texas 12

Missouri, kstate, kansas and iowa state, I am sure you can get by on the piddlings the horndogs will sprinkle to ya.

Trash your capacitor is old hat. I get the future from MBH?

That stuck in my pea brain as well.

That conference was totally Texas, and the epitome of lack of integrity.

Wonder why TO smelled a rat from the git go?

Posted by: fleaflicker on June 9, 2010 9:35PM CST
It's simple....because Texas is not a conference team player this has happened.....way to go dip s****!!! Thanks Texass...look forward to seeing you in the Rose Bowl.

Red, I think TO has forced the Big 10's hand. I don't know if they were ready for that or not but Tom has made us the aggressor. As he said, "I am tired of this". Which is to say, Make a decision Big 10.

All the pundits seem to think they have but we shall see if they know of what they speak.

One way or another we should know by Friday or Monday at the latest.

Posted by: Dallas Husker on June 9, 2010 9:36PM CST
I do like it that we can now recruit kids as partial qualifiers. If anything, we now can go after kids in Texas we couldn't before due to big12 stipulations.

Posted by: PT Husker on June 9, 2010 9:37PM CST
But what the hell do I know. I no longer have a paper route.

Posted by: N_trepid on June 9, 2010 9:37PM CST
Bluejay, if you're so genuinely happy with Nebraska going to the Big Ten, why the compulsive posting and the panic-stricken demeanor?

Posted by: big red 1 on June 9, 2010 9:38PM CST
I have asked that myself also Gofor, but what really sticks in my craw is our North brothers always voting against us and now they are groveling for us to stay. There is an old saying that goes like this.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

Posted by: Dallas Husker on June 9, 2010 9:41PM CST
Something tells me that T.O. also heard stories from Barry Switzer of how UT did things. Remember, NU OU was a classy rivalry between two good football teams. I'm sure Switzer was more familiar with UT than Osborne back then, having dealt with them on an annual basis. He probably heard things, Tom heard things from Barry. Just a thought.

Posted by: Gofor2 on June 9, 2010 9:41PM CST
Exactly PT
TO is hanging it all out again.

Folks aren't used to dealing with this type of courage.

Especially from a quiet, soft spoken man from Nebraska.

But they know, by his track record, there's no quit in him and he's smarter then anyone else in the room.

Posted by: big red 1 on June 9, 2010 9:43PM CST
PT, I was not referring to you with the paper route, that was directed at a little birdy. Sorry my bad.

Howdy fleaflicker.

Posted by: fleaflicker on June 9, 2010 9:45PM CST
My post wasn't correct.....Texass joining the Pac 10 was just a ploy between Texas and Beebe to keep Nebraska in..........nice try losers!

Posted by: Gofor2 on June 9, 2010 9:47PM CST
Good point Dallas

That whole Ut/OU codependency.

OU, gosh, I wish they'd tell ut to stuff it as well and heck, come on over to the 10 with us.

Now we're talking!

Posted by: PT Husker on June 9, 2010 9:47PM CST
And this is not about Texas as some of us want it to be. It is about moving forward. Getting a decision made and getting on with our lives, what ever they may be.

One thing TO will not do, and he told us as much, is to make this decision based on "sticking it to" somebody.

This is between us and the Big 10. Nobody else.

Posted by: fleaflicker on June 9, 2010 9:48PM CST
Hey big red.......pretty exciting times in Huskernation. I've read your posts. IMO there's just too much "water under the bridge" for the Huskers to stay in the Texas XII. Friday will be fun to watch......seems like nothing stays the same anymore.

Nearly every report I read already has the Pac 10 or the Big 10 or both balooning up to 16 teams based just on the reports of Nebraska to the Big 10.

Some of that is based on the Texas bluff and the Pac 10's willingness to play along; but I really hope that if Nebraska goes, the rest of the Big XII (except Colorado) reloads with two replacements, and that the Pac 10 adds only two--Utah and Colorado.

That saves Kansas, K State, Iowa St.; it shows that the Texas and its little buddies ploy was just that--a bluff that they had no intention of carrying out; it makes Missouri stay in the conference it so badly wanted out of; and, more importantly, we end up with three conferences of 12 teams.

They can have their championship games and the extra TV money that comes with them(although, interestingly, the two conferences that haven't had such a game seem to want one, and the Big XII sounds like if they do stay together without fillng back to 12 that the lack of a championship game has certain advantages--the grass is always greener, I guess).

What we wouldn't have are any super mega-16 conferences disrupting the current system too much. I've heard several people suggest that 16 is not nearly as easy to manage in terms of numbers, and that 12 is really ideal.

Longwinded, I know, but that is what I hope to see.

Go Big Red!

I agree, it's not personal, too much at stake to do something like this for those reasons.

But having said that, it's always personal, and if you can keep your head while this stuff is swirling then, you've got the advantage.

One of TO's unusual traits. When I fished with him as the 12 was being born, he didn't hold back.

I really think this is about financial viability of the B12 north. It's just not there. If we are going to survive we have to move. I hope it's to the B10 I would rather see those games with a alliance with the SEC for preseason games than games on the West Coast.

Posted by: BleedingRed on June 9, 2010 10:04PM CST
I really think that T.O. is the epitomy of "what you see is what you get". He is overflowing with integrity, honesty and ethics.

I do not think that he is playing cards, bluffing, strong arming or anything of the sort.

I really believe that we were placed into a position whereby we had to explore our options. In doing so, the positives of joining the Big 10's family is appealing for many reasons. I would like to think that having Nebraska as part of their family is also appealing to them as much as it is to us.

It is apparent to all that our family has some serious issues that are unlikely to be remedied in counseling.

I just can't help but think of Liz Taylor.

Lot's of money. Lot's of broken marriages. The only consistency in the entire process is more money and more broken marriages.

Whose track record does that sound like?

Certainly not Nebraska's! We went along with our brothers marriage despite our better judgement. But we went along. Our brothers turned on us at every occassion.

There is no future in this marriage, our brothers have abandoned us long ago. Yet the very people that have caused so many years of harm now ask us to once again stand by their side as those whom they have chosen over us desert them.

Nebraska has paid their dues. They have stood by those that have abandoned them on so many occassions.

It is time to settle our affairs, pack our bags, start anew and take pride in knowing that we have, do and will continue to do what is best for whatever family we find ourselves associated with.

My wife and I were outside with one of our dogs. On the way in the door my wife sweetly said, "Why don't you come lay in bed with me."

Stunned and only half consious I said, "Sure. That would be nice."

She laughed and said, "I was talking to the dog."

I quickly replied, "Well if you had allowed me to finish before you started laughing I was going to say, "Sure. That would be nice for the dog."

For some reason I can't help but think that she still won that one.

From ESPN

With Nebraska apparently headed to the Big Ten, the Pac-10 is poised to become the Pac-16.

Colorado already has received an invitation to join the conference, while five other invitations will be extended to Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

A Big 12 football coach, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Wednesday night that if Nebraska left the Big 12 the conference would dissolve, according to his athletics director and university president. The coach said Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado would join the Pac-10, leaving Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State behind.

If Nebraska leaves and the Big 12 subsequently dissolves, then it just proves that Texas is full of it. All we hear down in Austin is how insignificant and irrelevant Nebraska is, but yet they're looking to give up on the Big 12 if Nebraska leaves. Deep down Texas knows that Nebraska is irreplaceable and now they want to crawl over and join the Powder Puff Pac-10. Some of them act like they have been dreaming of the day that they got to join the Pac-10...are you kidding me? Give me the Big 10 any day! I don't care who you add to the Pac-10, they still play touch football out there. Anyone from the Big 12 that acts like they are pleased to join the Pac-10 is a pansy.

Posted by: IBleedRed on June 10, 2010 12:14AM CST
In spite of all the positive spin people are trying to put on this, I think the whole thing smells to high heaven. Basically Nebraska is jumping ship in order to keep from being left out in the cold when Texas and company jump to the Pac 10. As a result, Kansas and Iowa State (along with K ST and Baylor) are definitely being sold down the river. This amounts to an act of betrayal on our part to schools that we have played for decades. I think we started playing Kansas in the 1890's. I wish they had never broken up the old Big 8. We should never have thrown our lot in with Texas which has not hesitated to toss its weight around. Unfortunately, we can expect the same treatment at the hands of Michigan and Ohio State. Even with our football rep, we are going to be a little fish in a very big pond. Ohio State if four times the size of Nebraska in a state with almost 12 million people in it. I would hardly call that parity. We are going to be like Northwestern only minus the money and academic prestige.

Posted by: boom.roasted on June 10, 2010 12:19AM CST

IBleedRed,

Actually, we'll get the same amount of money as everyone else in the Big 10, because they share revenue equally.

Nebraska isn't jumping ship to avoid being left out in the cold, but because they're doing what's best for the university and the state.

And, the Big 8 has been dead for 14 years.

Posted by: N_trepid on June 10, 2010 2:28AM CST
Two events clearly illustrate just who Nebraskans really are....

One is the standing ovation Nebraska fans gave Major Applewhite after he led Texas to victory over NU.

Class.

The second event is how the state of Nebraska reacted to Ben Nelson's deal making other states pay in perpetuity for Nebraska's Medicaid program. The people of Nebraska rejected the deal immediately. They didn't want special treatment. They just wanted a fair deal.

That the powers at the University of Texas couldn't find a way to work with these honest, decent people says quite a lot about UT.

Posted by: Wrestler on June 10, 2010 5:48AM CST
Elation of sth. new? And a positive spin, of what seems to be the inevitable? I am a huge fan of TO, so I seem to buy the going into the Big 10, but what I don't know is how much, is it his choosing clearly, or influenced by the academic community, within the University? And his reassurance that NU, will continue to be a stawart with its sports programs, not just FB, as he is the AD, for all?

A compromising to others desires, as in revenues and academic prestige? Why, because there is no one smarter, in the arena of FB, than TO, and deep down he knows, that now connecting to the Big 10 conference, for a positioning to the north to northeastern section, of USA will bring about of course, exposure for TV and revenues as in shared, and academics for a state university of the highest degree, as in the Big 10 conference, and its outstanding merits? Some of this pleases others, in university also, as in revenues for many things and prestige, of perception at the least?

But TO also knows, for the sustained success of the FB program, that he engineered so skillfully, that some of you have attacked for his criticism, why, not sure as we all are entitled, to our perceptions of good or bad?

NUCORNDEVIL, Dr. TO, would be the first to concede that he has some valid pts., wether others on here want to see both sides of the coin, or not? Again 3 most fertile areas of recruiting in the country, a consensus by almost all, that follow college FB, I suspect backed up by our own resident expert, to scouting talent, Step? Are TX, CA, and FL? Now, how many of those athletes, want to go play on teams in a conference, that plays in inclement weather, and not playing majority of games, anywhere close to their homes?

So perception is great, in regards to academics and bottomline, increased revenue will be appreciated by all in Huskernation, true, but to excel, you need combos of things, I see most of those satisified, but now you lose TX, that all hate here, and for those joining the Pac 10, as speculated, they will have garnered CA along with TX? I suspect a Pac 16, future TV contract including both states of TX and CA, will bring a hefty sum, maybe as much or greater, than SEC and Big 10, nomatter how much you disdain the Horns?

I think, even if TO is heading in the direction he went, and it comes to full volition, is this really deeply what he desires, or is he accomodating others, in his AD position?

Scoff all you want, at NUCORNDEVIL, criticism, but I for one, see sth. transpiring, that in a few years could show up in some disgruntled fans, of magnitude?

As Big Ten is hoping, that such a hugely successful and storied program, as is NU, can enhance their performance image, as a conference, I also want it to happen, as I love NU, but much to my chagrin, see the eventual outcome, as more as NUCORNDEVIL, is warning?

NU gets the renown status, of joining some of the elite schools for academics, but the inverse for maintaining excellence, on the FB playing field, and hate UT all you like, but they and others and Pac 10 merger, get now 2 out of the 3 biggest locations, for fertile recruiting?
That could correlate into greater playing success?

I hope I am wrong? Thurs. evening here, just jumped on for a moment, my light of freedom is fading fast?

GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

If this is truly all TO's convictions, and thoughts in choosing, than I am wrong and I succumb to him, and say great?

But, if this is a coalition of choosing, for a myriad of reasons, than NUCORNDEVIL, makes sense to me, and TO may know, there are some traps ahead?

Posted by: Busiekcreek on June 10, 2010 6:42AM CST
Wrestler, I hope you are not getting a case of cold feet. lol

I agree with most of your sentiments and if that is what the people of Nebraska want, then so be it. Just do not share the euphoria that seems to be increasing by the hour. The one bright light in all of this (on a personal level) is that I will get to see Big Red on tv more often. The powers that be have always assumed those of us in the south love the Big 10 , we don't. Just hope the grass is as green 5 years from now as it being portrayed by the media and so many of the fans.

Big 10 is great for academics........bad for football!

Here's the proof. In head-to-head competetion in Bowl games played over the past four years the Big 10 has posted an AMAZINGLY TERRIBLE record verse the Big 12 of 1-8!! Btw, Nebraska is not among those Big 12 wins.
A year ago virtually everyone on the blog rightfully considered the Big 10 to be a mediocre conference; its kinda funny how the possibility of an NU invite instantly changes NU's fans mind set. NU will learn to enjoy the softness of the Big 10; Bo & Company will be able to avoid their anual losses to the dominant Big 12 South.
At 1-8 the Big 10 actually receives more respect than they should.........my guess nobody on this blog realized they were that bad!
