Quentin Castille moves on
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on March 14, 2010 at 11:39AM CST
Quentin Castille is leaving Northwestern State after just one season, with plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft.

"I can't really talk about the situation at Northwestern State," the former Husker running back told The Town Talk newspaper in Louisiana. "I made the decision to leave. I think the best decision for me is to enter the draft."

Castille, who would have one more season of eligibility left, served mostly as a backup to William Griffin at Northwestern State. According to The Town Talk, he rushed for 349 yards and one touchdown on 107 carries this past season. He also had four fumbles.

Castille missed the deadline for underclassmen to file for the NFL draft in April. So he'll have to wait for the supplemental draft in July.

Just a strange situation again....hmmmm. I doubt he gets much of a look considering the problems at two different schools.

Heck of an athlete, but doesn't look like he has his personaly priorities in check. Good luck to him.

Posted by: big red 1 on March 14, 2010 11:54AM CST
Good luck Quentin.Hope ya make it in the nfl.

Posted by: Fitzy on March 14, 2010 12:18PM CST
Wow, big shocker. This kind of track record of NOT finishing what you start is not gonna look good to NFL scouts. With the NFL putting more emphasis on good character, Q better find a mentor to lead him to smoother waters. I do believe Q has the ability... we will see if he can get straightened out.

Posted by: 3&OUT on March 14, 2010 12:26PM CST
Quentin was a banger, the type of back the some NFL team will like, but he's got to hold onto the ball and like Fitzy said find a mentor to work on his issues. Good Luck Q. GBR

Posted by: Mountainman@ on March 14, 2010 1:23PM CST
Quentin:
All you had to do was go to school, stay clean, eat steak, play football and not fumble. If that was too tough at Nebraska, and at NW State, how are you going to make it in the NFL? You have about a 1% chance to make a practice squad. If you do not make it--then no education, no job, no money. And if you change your mind again and want to get an education, you will have the privilege of paying for it yourself by working at a low wage job.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on March 14, 2010 1:28PM CST
good luck. You will need it and more.

Posted by: The Old Scout on March 14, 2010 1:29PM CST
He might play pro ball but not in the NFL.

Posted by: Bornhusker on March 14, 2010 1:38PM CST
It's sad to see a young man with a potentially great future throw it away twice. Giving up a college education for the unlikely chance the NFL will draft him -- and that he'll make someone's roster -- shows the young man has a lot of maturing to do.

Good luck to him. He's going to need it since he's doing little to help himself.

Quiet afternoon as usual. Kentucky going to over time with Mississippi State on a last second buzzer beater.

Let the Madness begin. It is my 2nd favorite time of year.

Bornhusker,

Potential not fulfilled, happens too many times in all sports at different levels, unfortunately?

Therefore, it is the one denominator, that diminishes, the star ratings to recruiting?

I have, personally witnessed, many great athletes in both FB and my mat sports, that because of various reasons, lifestyle choices, or lack of discipline, or burnout or whatever, never fulfilled, their innate abilities, for accomplishment?

To go, the longhaul of progression and development in sports, requires alot of traits and support, for the ultimate success to happen?

"The harder I work, the luckier I get"?

GBR! Zhou Da Hong! GB12! Zhou Da Shier!

Mountainman, and his good soliloquy for Quentin, has it right?

I can't think of his name, but read a article on a defensive tackle I believe, or end out of Okie Lite, that played for the Redskins in NFL, and couldn't read?

Red 1. It would appear that Carl has developed the role of "team spokesman". We must infer that he was talking about the entire team. And as general as his statements were I guess we can infer what ever we want.

This thread is another sad chapter in the big book of "We love you while you're here, but hate you when you leave".

Yes, it didn't work out for Q at Nebraska, and unfortunately his transfer didn't work out either. It happens.

I'm glad so many of you have had blessed, error free lives and can judge Q or knock down his dreams.

Wow...averaged less than 3-1/2 yards per carry with one TD for a 1AA school, and he is going to skip his senior season to declare for the draft? Is anyone advising this guy? Is he listening to advice??

Best of luck to Q. Hope he finds some success at the pro level, but what an odd decision. Perhaps this says something about his character that he wouldn't have the patience to stick it out and get better.

Just heard on the News that the Broncos picked up Brady Quinn. Improvement over Orten or not?

improvement in the fact that he is younger but that is about the only improvement....the 2 make a great Bronco's QB stable though.....pardon the pun!

KU, wins its 2nd in 3 years?

I bet all the NFL teams were hoping a backup RB from Nowhere State would enter the supplemental draft. He'll be lucky to latch onto a practice squad somewhere.

Posted by: NorlynRa on March 14, 2010 6:28PM CST
PTH,
The city doesn't know what's there, but they don't want uncomfortable questions about the potential cost of cleanup.
The railroad does know what's there, that's why they won't allow inspections until after the city is on the hook for the cleanup costs. The city is determined to do the arena no matter the cost, so what should be a red flag to them they are attempting to ignore in hopes the public will also let it slide. Once the deal is done, EPA will force taxpayers to clean up the mess no matter the cost.

Posted by: 3&OUT on March 14, 2010 6:36PM CST
I've had dealings with the railroads in the past, their land, their rules. I wanted a phase 1 they said fine get one when the deal closes. They want no liability regardless of where the land is at. They usually haven't listed the land for sale, they get approached so they just don't care if it sells or not.

Posted by: PT Husker on March 14, 2010 6:42PM CST
NortynRa ( I think?) That is the impression I get. wish I was wrong but experience tells me otherwise. The powers have decided this is a good deal for the growth of the city and do not want facts to interfere. it does not matter to them what costs there are because it is a good deal for Lincoln in their opinion. Perhaps they are right.

Like I said. Glad I do not have to vote.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on March 14, 2010 6:55PM CST
The odds of anyone getting picked in the Supplemental draft are pretty slim. So Castille may end up in no man's land. The smart move would have been to declare for the regular draft. Reading between the lines, I think Northwestern State may have has some issues with Castille. I am sure NFL people will have some questions about that. One can't have a career on just potential.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on March 14, 2010 6:58PM CST
Brady Quinn is one of those guys that was drafted because of potential, so far that has not worked out. Who knows, the Bronco's may have got a sleeper there.

You can have the Cuse' with the injured Onuaku. His MRI revealed a strained quad tendon which he's had surgeries on both knees for in the past. I think he's cleared to play, but that scares me.

KU and Kentucky as well!?!?!? 3 outta the 4 number 1 seeds???? Man, you are a salesman. Don't think I could go for that sucker bet.

SH17, I would think Baylor would carry more academic weight and prestige, but from the networking angle there are more TT folks out there that look to hire other TT folks. Depends on what you want out of it I guess.

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on March 15, 2010 10:17AM CST
That's sort of the thing I'm trying to figure out. A lot of times it's who you know and not always what you know but if they see Baylor on the resume will that sort of impress them even if I don't necessarily "know" anyone.

It's definitely who you know that gets you in the door. To get my first job in Texas I went to the job placement room at the THSCA convention and iterviewed with several people. I had 5 job offers pretty much all around the state. The one I chose, in the Dallas area, was because he was the only one that acknowledged that someone outside of Texas could know anything about football. He said, 'being from Nebraska you have to be passionate about football, I need people who are passionate about football.' Being a foreigner makes it a little tougher.

Thanks for the help, I'm still trying to look at costs and if they have GA's available or not. That would certainly help no matter where I went. Damn grad schools are expensive.

'Gradual School', as I like to call it, can be expensive. I know a few coaches who are taking their masters online through Lamar University. Any interest in that? I think it is costing them around $4000.

Well I have a roommate now that's doing his online and he's in the same general area but I want to eventaully be in the adminitrative side of an athletic department so I figure it would serve me better on hand experience to be at an actual school and especially one that could be in a conference like the Big 12. I got into Wichita State as well but I'm not sure if it will matter much to see Big 12 Conference on the resume or Missouri Valley or if just having my Master's will be good enough if they're looking at my resume.

Are you teaching now? What is your undergrad degree? Just trying to look at what will work.

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Sport Management and a Bachelor's in Business Admin., no teaching for me. I wouldn't mind coaching and have done some for 8 year old soccer stuff but here in NE you need a teaching certificate to coach in high school. Ideally I'd be trying to get into like a SID spot down the road, maybe AD but I think I'd like AD at the high school level or at like a D-2 or D-3 level, maybe a little less politics involved.

Odds are you won't be able to obtain an AD position at the HS level unless you are the head football coach, or have been one. There's always politics involved. Gotta be up at the baseball field by noon. I'll try to make it back on later tonight.
