Predictorama: Huskers-Lafayette
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on September 25, 2009 at 11:37AM CST
If I were a betting man, I think I could make a lot of coin guessing how Nebraska would do off the mood of Bo Pelini. When Pelini doesn't bat an eye and says his team is ready to roll, it usually shows on Saturday.

It's been that way this week. I realize part of it might be due to the fact that coaches want to bring players' spirits up after swallowing such a bitter pill last Saturday. But I really expect Nebraska to put it together this Saturday and cruise. And I think Lafayette might be the worst of the three Sun Belt teams we'll see in Lincoln this year. I also predict NU will build a big enough lead that you see Cody Green for almost a whole quarter.

So with that I don't hesitate in picking a blowout: Huskers 42, Lafayette 6.

What say you?

Best week of practice coming off a very heartbreaking loss. These mild cajuns dont have a chance.

Huskers 56
Cajuns 3

The defense led by Suh lays some smack down with six sacks even though ULL hasnt allowed a sack all year yet.

3 interceptions by the d also. Zac Lee and Cody Green combine to lead the offense to 500 yards. Equal rushing and passing yards.

Lifes good isnt it>?!!!!!

Bonus prediction: 4 TDs for Zac.

Double-bonus prediction: Over 200 all-purpose yards for Helu.

Double-secret prediction: Eric Martin literally hospitalizes someone.

800 yds Total O. 500 yds Rushing, 4 players over 100 yds, 4 Rushing TD's. Lee and Green Combine for 300 yds passing and 4 TD's. 8 sacks on Defense, 5 turnovers, 2 fumbles, 3 Ints on Defense

ULL- 180 yds Total O, mainly in 3d and 4th Qtrs. Rushing Yds- 70, pass yds, 110, 2nd Half.

Halftime score- 49-0

NU in a complete Blowout and Shutout for the 300th consecutive Sellout.

72-0 Husker Nation and Sea of Red

Pinky and the Blaine continue to tremble in their Depends (they have on for the NU film) as they realize they are extremely overmatched and Blaine will be broken completely in half on a sack by Suh for betraying the Husker Nation

Posted by: rluben on September 25, 2009 11:57AM CST
I predict the Ragin Cajun QB tries to call a time out while he's getting sacked for the 5th time and fumbles. Suh tosses him in the stands so he can go after the ball, picks it up and runs it in.

Fans are later quoted hearing the QB scream something that sounded like "No Mas, No Mas".

As usual NU fans show their class and catch the poor fella so he doesn't hurt himself, but they have to practically toss him back on the field because he says he's gonna to stay up there where it's safe.

RLUBEN- Suh reminds me of a giant squid

Posted by: HuskerfromAR on September 25, 2009 12:05PM CST
I correct my total yards for ULL on this logic. NU has given up 27 total points in 3 games, that's 9 ppg. This is NU's third home game of the season. 9ppgx3home games for NU this year minus one loss = -27 total yards for ULL.
27/3=9x3(-1) or
27/3=9x(-3)= -27 total yards

Posted by: BleedingRed on September 25, 2009 12:06PM CST
I say that each and every player on this team has a responsibility to go out and to give their best effort.

If we are fortunate, a lot of players will get to see some quality time on the field.

This is once of the key ingredients that bring up the level of competition in practices and ultimately what will once again make this program great.

You got the GIANT part right.

48 to 10 NU. All LL points scored after liberal substitutions are made late in the game by NU.

Helu gets his 100 early and sits. Burkehead and Lester Ward get significant snaps. Bell or Kinnie get first TD. Baby Stein gets lots of snaps as does Meredith (sp) NU plays 6 LBs.
Unconfirmed sighting of Bo smiling.

52 to 7

Bruno/Z/Ray: suggestion for the date in NYC tomorrow: Times Square, ESPNzone. I watched a few games there and usually had a dozen or so Huskers in attendance. The date can be distracted by the freak show in Times Square while your busy with important Husker stuff.

52-0. First shutout since I don't know how long ago. Take it to the bank, picks have treated me well this year. (42-10 ((49-3)), 38-17 ((38-9)), 23-17 NU ((16-15 tech turds))).

I believe it will be a great game for the Huskers. It will be a blow out 63-7. By the middle of the third quarters the bench will be emptied with Husker walk-ons from all over seeing playing time. Towns we haven’t heard from since the early 80 will be rejoicing towns like Duncan, Kimball, Prim Rose and Cornlee will have kids playing. There will be tailgating until the sun comes up Sunday. There will be kool-aid for every one and Runza’s as well. A Farmer from Valentine will come up with a concoction of mixing vodka with cool-aid, sticking a Slim Jim’s in it and freezing it. There will be frozen popsicle sticks with Slim Jims everywhere. They will become the next greatest fad. The farmer will eventually sell this concoction to 7-Eleven who will mass produce this minus the vodka in the form of a Slim Jim slurped. The farmer will get so rich from his concoction and become the next great contributor to the Athletics department. GO BIG RED!!!

Huskers 42-7.

I agree that Cody Green plays at least one quarter. Rex Burkhead gets 15 touches.

Not one to stick my neck out, but I see Helu getting his yards and sitting. Then, sports fans, you are going to see a performance which will show you how a talented un-recruited (by Texas Schools) RB from Plano stirred the entire area with his ability. This kid
is for real and when he finally gets on stage for more than one scene....Watch out.

The "General Lee" will prevail as usual. The D and the receivers let him down last week. Enough of that krappola

Posted by: MileHiHusker on September 25, 2009 3:00PM CST
There is a lot of distraction for this game. I hope the coaches and players aren't as fixated on that last game as we all are. If so we won't be able to score more than 63 points. It seems that even the coaches are counting this one early by insinuating that once the game is in control we will play a lot of people. It's not normally safe to think that way. I think the Huskers will struggle a bit in this one NU 56 - them 14

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 25, 2009 3:03PM CST
51-10 - Their QB gets sacked for the first time. Helu runs for 150 yds. Green plays in the 4th, punts, and also kicks a field goal. Makes 5 tackles and throws 2 TD passes and runs for one. The first Husker in history, to punt, kick a field goal, play defense, throw at least one touchdown and run another. Fans on Monday then petition Bo to make him the OC.

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on September 25, 2009 3:07PM CST
Like I said before, I want a 60-0 whipping and Cajuns limping home with red cheeks wondering what happened......

Huskers 34-14

Posted by: Stillahuskerfan on September 25, 2009 3:26PM CST
I think the huskers will dominate after they had their little hickup last Saturday. 45 to 0. Suhhhhhhhhhhh weet GBR

Posted by: Triple Option on September 25, 2009 3:26PM CST
The opposing coach dies of fright from the ferocious gaze from Bo and the sight of him furiously chewing his big red gum at the opening handshake. Several of their top players wet themselves upon seeing this. This leads to several early turnovers and 35 points are scored before the end of the first quarter.

Posted by: TheOneAndOnly on September 25, 2009 3:38PM CST
52-7.

Lafayette scores on the first possession-an 76 yard throw to one of their receivers and Matt O'Hanlon misses the coverage.

Triple Option- Bo will go out to shake hands with his pet giant squid, huh

Over/under on the # of sticks in the mouth of Bo at any given time?

Posted by: no nothing on September 25, 2009 3:49PM CST
I predict we rebound from last weeks loss as well as:

No fullback.
No option game.
No blitz package.
No shutout.
Nothing new in the running attack.
No change in QB when the game is on the line.
No change in game management overall.
No short yardage power rushing game.

Some change in red zone play do to the opponent.
Continued improvement in defensive play.
Possibly better substitution of players since they have apparently identified a problem in that area.
Better play from special teams.

Display more faith in what the team can do rather than dwell on what they maybe can't do.

Final Score: 56-17 Huskers.
GBR

Nebraska is not playing Lafayette. The school is named the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It is known as ULL.

Posted by: NishBigRed on September 25, 2009 3:59PM CST
Zak will pass for 600 yards, 6 touch downs and one interception and be done by the 3rd quarter. Cody Green will come in the last series of the half; scramble 60 yards for a TD. In the 3rd quarter Cody will complete 7 passes for 2 touchdowns. On Monday all the Monday morning Quarterbacks will be screaming for the benching of Zak. Bloggers will bash Zak for the one interception ready to king Cody. King Cody for Heisman!

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 25, 2009 4:03PM CST
IH))) And after Cody Green is petitioned to be OC... his first play call is a one yard loss and he is fired and replaced by Zac Lee.

With Zac Lee calling plays... Taylor Martinez takes us to 4 straight NC's and goes down as the greatest football player ever... right after Tim Tebow was pronounced "greatest of all time" 3 years earlier.

I could see it happening.

Is this a good idea by coach Pelini? Or should we just get a walk-on from Iowa and create our own stars?

Posted by: rluben on September 25, 2009 4:37PM CST
lol step, you know we all know we need a mix.

Always doggin' the walkons sheesh, admit we've had some pretty darn good ones who had no stars but made their own. Sure most will just play scout team, but there's plenty of big time scholarship recruits that end up sitting and watching or not even being here for 4-5 yrs too.

Hell yeah we want those burners if they are talented, can run a route, block, blow past someone and catch the ball.

Who wouldn't?

We need players that can play and play for something other than themselves. I don't care if they be walk-ons or 5 stars, they just need to play with heart and passion and have that it factor whatever it is + a whole lot of talent.

Coincidentally, I think we have a team of players such as that right now and more on the way, sky's the limit if they keep working to get better.

I get more pleasure as a fan watching a team go through the process of overcoming adversity and mistakes, youth, inexperience and becoming a force to reckon with...that process of growth as a team as a program is something we are witnessing yet again in Husker land with a young staff doing it their way, the right way.

Bo's going to go after players, he's no dummy.
Sometimes they are going to be recruited walk-ons though who become more than the average fan thought they would.

This won't be the last NE fielded that has some highly touted recruit sitting and watching a walk-on play ahead of him.

I say we drop the animosity towards walkons or guys with just a couple stars and get behind this staff and the players who earn their spot on the field of play no matter what they were projected out of HS.

Bring on all the scholy talent we can get, but they best come ready to perform and work hard or get left in someone's dust who isn't afraid to lay it all on the line.

I think they prefer to run this program as an NFL franchise as Callahan started years ago. Since we don't get draft picks and their is no free agency, they go for the stars, but that is just my opinion.
