Predictions: Huskers-Bears
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on October 30, 2009 at 4:42PM CST

Greetings from Texas. Sunny and lovely outside.

I say the Huskers win it tomorrow. NU 23, Baylor 14. I'd go bigger but they have to show me something after the last two weeks.

What say you?

That's assuming that Suh gets a pick six and 4 safeties.

Defense will hold Baylor to 3 field goals, however, our offense will only be able to get one TD with Zac Lee and Watson play-calling. Unless proven otherwise, I do not see any better performance without the leader at the helm and execution. Wats already commented that Baylor puts 8 or 9 defenders on the line of scrimmage. So Lee will have to pass a lot with 2 interceptions.

NU 7 - Baylor 9

Another game where it would benefit ALL to have Green start and boost his confidence and see where he stands for next year....feet have to get wet sometime....let it be tomorrow, please god!

Ehusker - So far, putting 8 or 9 defensders in the box hasn't prevented Baylor from giving up an average of 184+ rushing yards per game (ranked 100th against the run in D1).

zac will still be the qb....

we will not have 8 to's if we do we lose again

the game will be much harder then it needs to be because green isnt playing and the team is still flat

nu wins....17-9

This is the Iowa State game without 8 turnovers. 31-13 Huskers.

Posted by: GreenBrterRed on October 30, 2009 5:12PM CST
As soon as the D gives us the ball inside the 40, Henery trots out and gives us 3. No int's, no fumbles..... just leave the O on the sidelines.

NU - 32 (7 fg's, 2 safeties, 1 pick-6)(Suh scores
10 points)
BU - 0 (the D throws a shutout

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 5:17PM CST
GreenBrterRed, now that was funny! We play on offense to get within the 40 and let Henery kick? That is clever very funny with our defense and way things have been going? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! 1st down Huskers at the Teddybears 35, whoa time out Huskers yes here comes Henery for his 10th attempt of the first half? Funny very funny!

Welp... great news for the Big Red Nation!

My dad said... ef the kids and trick or treating... we are going to Waco.

So with the worlds biggest Nebraska fan set to make an appearance... thats me... our chances for a win just shot up the charts.

I don't make predictions because I am superstitious... but if I did... I would say...

Nebraska 12 Baylor 10.

Big Red brings it home after a halftime pep talk from none other than The StephRaZor.

Till Sunday... adios muchachas.

For a game prediction... I say...

Cody Green gets the start... tosses 6 INT's... but he runs for 50 yards including the game winner.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 5:29PM CST
No Nothing my man, I think the post that we play to get inside the 40 and kick the fieldgoal is funny but could work? No redzone offense? So let Henery kick away? I can see us getting a first down on the Teddybears 35 and then in comes the fieldgoal kicking unit, this is our new redzone extended somewhat offense? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 30, 2009 5:31PM CST
Defense plays lights out and NU wins by one but they proved me wrong last week so who knows. Depends if the Defense or ST can get into the endzone.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 5:32PM CST
Henery for Heisman more valuable than Tebow? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! Once in awhile we let him take shots at new records like 60 yd attempts hey how about within our own 10 yd. line on a windy day!

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 5:35PM CST
Low Country and hotties for NU the eye candy is sweet! I am promoting the inside opponent's 40 yd line and let Henery kick?
GreenBrterRed, brought that one up above so clever? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

I also predict that we do not see what we did on this blog after the ISU game last Saturday. It was the funniest thing I ever read. The "bad fans" were giving their opinions about the game and what changes needed to be made and the "good fans" were trying to shut them up by calling them names because they were being too negative . Then the trolls were visiting and feeding the fire. It was a Whack O Fan night!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 5:57PM CST
BRG - So Missouri and Kansas getting those talented receivers is cool by you? We just need to quit thinking we can have a passing game with talented WR's involved?

I hope this offense explodes so I can laugh when he and others have to eat their words. I wouldn't doubt if they end up changing the OC and all that goes with it before it runs it's course though.

I'm for balance complimented by talented playmakers on both sides of the ball. Opinions are a dime a dozen. Jason's entitled to his, but we're paying lot of money who haven't had the probems he's had to do their jobs, so he'd be better off to just step back and let the real coaches do their jobs. A lot of people have the perfect solutions when they're not the ones responsible for implementing them. Jason's answer is to get more talent from Omaha and run the ball behind some good ol' farm boys from Ord. Ain't gonna work no more. Those days are long gone.

By the way PT no deheading in China fish and shrimp and everything comes to your table attached? I once talked with a chinese guy in the shrimp business he told me what's wrong with you crazy Americans? We have to send all our shrimp there deheaded? He said we are cutting off the best parts! GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 6:03PM CST
No nothing- football was simpler back when he was playing. Way more speed and focus on speading the field out to use it.

I don't mean to disrespect the guy, but I think he'd have a hard time doing what our coaches are doing right now. He's out of touch, but he has a right to voice his opinions and drum up desent with them. To me, that's all his reteric is doing. Everyone's an expert.

BRG and Jason have their vision and TommyOC and you accept statusquo today. I thought GBRTX, explained it best to me one time on another thread. Style of offenses and defenses are influenced somewhat by NFL, saying top flight universities to get athletes of talent for NFL model what they are doing as for attraction? Then according to GBRTX, this even filters down to the top flight HS programs as well to model offenses for college and grooming athletes for scholarship possibilities, makes sense to me? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! And of course what we all played in football in our days influences also to how we think the game should be played? Now for PT, 105 is it? No pads and cardboard helmets did I get that right, PT? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

I predicted either Cody or Zak will start at QB tomorrow. I predicted Bo will chew gum and Wats will sit in a booth. The defense will get at least two sack and at least more than once I will have wished I hadn't decided to quick drinking. Thought? Anyone?

TommyOC, big ones are called prawns, and yes we have them here too in HK. By the way I guess you could argue Shanghai today on mainland, but HK really is the most developed international city and window to the world of China? So we have all types of food here in HK from everywhere in the world. HK is like NYC and London is in this part of the world as a financial hub of importance! GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 6:14PM CST
We can disagree on Jason any any number of topics respectfully. I expect that here. No big.

We need speedy talented WR's who can be game changers. Just like Misery had Maclin and Kansas has Briscoe.

We just lost another good one who we wanted to KU awhile back. We need a complete and well rounded team. Where is our future RB talent in this recruiting class? We better start thinking about that one real soon.

If we recruit hard and keep at it until we have the right talent needed to compete at the highest level,we'll get back in track. I don't see anything else that can get us back to where we want to be.

Coaching is great and all, but as bruNo put it, if the kid wants to play drums doesn't have the ability to play the drums, no amount of lessons is gonna make him a Ginger Baker.

I suppose that dates me a bit there. :)

Jason's looking at things in a very simplistic way. Just because he played football some years back, that doesn't make him an expert on what this team needs to do right now to compete on a national level. JMHO.

I like to talk about dads and their football stories.

My dad was so proud of my son when he signed up to play football. He told my son his number, and told him about what position he used to play and how he was the youngest and smallest on the team. Played with the big guys as a freshman etc... My son eat that stuff up and took on my dads position, and wore his number. Then I was the proud one. My son was among the smallest kids on the team these last couple years, but he's got the biggest heart. I love watchin him play. He was voted the most imspirational player. He has speed and a motor, but every time he got hit, I held my breath, but every time he bounced right back up. Football is the greatest game, ever.

J Peter obviously has crediblity with what he is saying, no doubt about that. A couple of things to remember, though. J Peter's eligibility expired in 1997, right with the formation of the Big 12 and newly formed rules of scholarship limits. TO spoke about that when he retired as coach.
I can understand the emotional attachment with Peter and the Huskers, but I'm not sure where he would fit in.....seems to me our defensive line coaching is among the best in the country now.
I like J Peter as much as the next fan, with the understanding that his current job responsibility is ratings.

TommyOC,
Not a proudier moment then watching you kid play football. I taught my step son a few pointers. One was after you lay a kid out, help him up and tell him he did a great job. He asked me why. I said if the kids realy good you can get in his head and maybe he won't run so hard next time he comes your way. Basicly I was trying to teach him sportmanship with a twist.

Tommy...my dad started at QB 3 years out in Montana...5'6" and 150 at the time. His senior year, they got a new coach. Dad was all conference....this was 1949. His coach is still coaching D3 ball and is about 80 wins ahead of JoePa.

TommyOC, it's not the size of the dog but it's heart that counts, or sth. like that, as I am not Michael Vick, so no expert on dogs! Good story here's hoping your son hits the weights and protein supplements and has his growing spell coming soon! If you will let me digress one minute, I was lucky being first in judo and wrestling and later on sambo, like age of 5 and forever and then playing football later on I matured from these sports quickly in size and strength what have you? But I run into so many people over the years that would tell me oh I wrestled in HS oh what wt. 112's or119's and you look at them and now well over 200 lbs. some have it tough for late growth stages in life? I agree with alot of what you said there BRG. We have a lot of talent, and they have mentally lacked in executing to perfection. The HC expects a lot of them. We expect a lot of them. They expect a lot of themselves. That's a lot of expectations. I don't think they are soft. I think they are a little over expectationed. :)

It won't take much to kick this can down the road a long ways. Just a SPARK will do it. Green just might be the SPARK, but it could come from any number of things. Niles, Roy, Khiry or any number of others guys. Lee has skills, but I agree he's shaken a bit in terms of his confidence during the games. If he'd had some help, and then just settled in and played, I think we'd all be surprised at just how good he could be.

Should be fun watching them kick the demons and get back on track. We've got five tough games ahead of us. Let's support the boys and bring them all home with 5 more victories and a conference championship opportunity. It's still all very possible. I believe they can and will pull it together.

Posted by: Sam G. on October 30, 2009 6:33PM CST
Depends if Lee starts and plays the whole game or not. If Green is in there I think he would totally open up the running game, and get some long runs himself. And then some passes, as they would be keying on him running.

But if Lee plays, I can see NU scoring more than 13 points or so, maybe 14 or 17. Our defense will keep Baylor under 10 points easily.

Wrestler - what do you recommend I use for supplements for my son? He's 13 and not pushing 100 pounds yet. I got him some weights and have been showing him some stuff on how to build, but I am not real sure what supplements I should be providing him at this age. He doesn't like to eat a lot of what we cook around here. I think he got pretty spoiled because we use to eat out a great deal in CA. Too many great places to eat there, so why cook?

TommyOC. I assume you are speaking offensively only. If not, I guess I did not understand you. But anyway, IMO he would have trouble doing what the coaches want done today just like our players have struggled with it for six years now. What is the best win- loss record the Huskers have had in the last six years? It seems to me all we hear any more is we don't have the talent, players are young, they have to get their own recruits, they need more time, wait til next year etc., etc., etc., it never ends. I think it bothers him and a lot of other former Huskers.
GBR

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 7:03PM CST
TommyOC, he is 13 so you know weights being a former player so remember some lifts or squats I would be careful with always now he being so young do weights for range of motion for athletics too! But as you probably already know heavier wts and less reps builds bulk and lighter wts and more reps builds defn. generally speaking. Of course now not in my sports finally either coaching or as an athlete I have a passion for wt. lifting my partner is FU former member of chinese wt. lifting team and goes over 340 lbs and benched the other day over 750 lbs very strong man. He has helped me alot and now I weight 215 lbs and benched 500 lbs before working out with him everyday this year most on a bench was 440 so I have progressed as chinese and russians are superior in their techniques in field of weightlifting to us. FU would make a heck of a strength coach? But we do the clean and jerks and snatches and deadlifts all the competitive lifting stuff too! And meditation transcendental and yoga for stretching no simple stuff we're not yoga experts and we are of course heavy on supplements for our 3 hour workouts everyday. But we use alot of GNC products as well as some others not appropriate for a 13 year old? If you have a GNC stores or Whey is another good name in protein and other supplements but go to a store get with someone at that store you can trust for their knowledge take your son in and tell them what you want to target for development at this stage in life and make sure you ask questions of concern about all that is offered? But defn. protein is safe for a 13 yr. old and other things. Vitamins and supplements are vast so take him with you and get information that feels right to you? Natural foods also consist of things vital for growth too! I always ate bananas for replenishing my electrolytes in long tourneys with the potassium it brings? Also rest proper rest for growth development? A kid in primary school should seek around 10 hours of sleep and middleschool and High School 8 hours of sleep as improper sleep retards growth, I was screwy on this one but it didn't hurt me? Remember every other day for wt. lifting growth comes on your rest day unless your sophisticated enough to workout each day with different body regions? Wts. and good protein supplements and proper sleep cycles will go along way to enhancing proper development? At 13 should be in some kind of sports year round for maturation also and development? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

TommyOC. One more thing I just thought of. The team he was on when they won those 3 National Championships were against Miami (Frank Costas), Florida (Danny Wuerffel) and Tennessee, (Peyton Manning). Those were all pretty good passing teams and like to spread the field out. Everyone thought those teams were unbeatable too except those Huskers!
GBR

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:04PM CST
If they don't execute, it doesn't matter what offense they run. We ran a I formation and handed the ball to Roy on the first play of the game this last week. How'd that turn out for us. Gave ISU the winning points by fumbling the ball away.

We need to execute better. Simple as that. We have good players, we have good coaches, we have good schemes, we just need some good fortune. :)

We'll get it!

Posted by: TJ1 on October 30, 2009 7:07PM CST
BRG- It surely couldn't hurt to have Jason give the team some pep talks on desire and what it means to be a husker, just don't let him impart anything on dating skills and extracurriculars.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 7:09PM CST
TommyOC, I would call this game a tossup if progression of offense for Huskers would have come along moreso? Meaning I think on D it is close? Huskers maybe edge but dbacks I think are better at OU ok shoot me full of holes? So standoff on D or tossup is how I figure but Jones has progressed better as a backup to Sam than Lee and I think there is the subtle difference between the two? I think it will be a close and very competitive game in Lincoln, not like last year in Norman? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:11PM CST
No - I'm kinda liking the defense we're running. It's really improving. If the offense wasn't mistake prone, Jason and all us posters would be having a lot of other things to talk about on here. I don't think they are that far off from being a really good all around team.

I do think they are gonna have to kick their recruiting into another gear. I'm not sure we'll see Gabbert ever show up on campus, but I'm not all that worried about it either. I'm more concerned about what we do in terms of RB and WR at this point. We are gonna need to recruit skilled talent with speed, no matter what we run on offense.

Do you believe that Bo is involved in the game planning and play calling on both sides of the ball now?

I think he's providing his input and allowing the offensive coaches to develop around his input. I think they have been doing a pretty good job with it. Just haven't been able to get it executed on the field and put it in the endzone. I'm hoping that will change.

Posted by: no nothing on October 30, 2009 7:12PM CST
Probably best not to give the ball to an injured player. 5 carries and two fumbles.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 7:14PM CST
Tommy...did your sun play against Qvale last year or was he not varsity last year?

Jason Peter could contribute a lot on today's team in mental attitude...I think the Pelini's could coach him up in today's technique. Jason was the type of guy who could do most whatever you wanted....he just needed to be pointed in the right way and Bo would do that. Given that, he never was an OC, so I would take Wats over him there. Not saying Wats or the O is perfect but I don't know that Peter has been a coach.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:14PM CST
I think OU has us edged out on both sides of the ball, but I think we'll be in the game and hopefully pull out a victory. I don't think they are miles above us at this point. With Greshem and Bradford, I'd count it as a loss. Not so much without them.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:18PM CST
No - This is true. Roy should have been more up front with the coaches about the extent of his injury.

SVH - Ovale would eat my son for his breakfast. :) :) :)

My son is 13 and in the 8th grade. His barely pushing 90 pounds at this point. I don't think he's destined to be an OLineman.

Ah..just saw the earlier post...I hope your 13 yr old 100 pounder wasn't lining up with Qvale on the field.

Tommy you nailed it everybody talks about Sam but losing TE before BYU game 1st game of the season was huge for their offense? He was defn. their go to guy this year that defenses would have had trouble covering? They lost 3 games by 5 pts. total and forget Sam although he is great? TE's presence would have won all 3 I believe? NO OU I still think would have been subpar to the Bama's and Florida's without Sam and a subpar Oline problem that won't go away? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

T-OC. No I do not(offensively). He hasn't been involved in the offense as of last week if you believe what he said about his knowledge of the game offensively speaking. We will see what unfolds tomorrow.

Qvale's dad coached a small town near us so I went up against papa's teams when I was a soph. Qvale's grandfather was my athletic director. Wouldn't have started a fight with either. Nice enough but stout and ornery.

Sounds more like a skill player to me so coach him up TommyOC and work on his speed etc. Again bodytype sometimes eliminates possibilities? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:23PM CST
No - I think he better do more than just give them input from what he thinks a team is gonna bring defensively. If Bo is seeking the be a complete HC, he needs to take on the entire team and not just ensure the defense is top 10. When he's instilling his personality and input on both sides of the ball, I think they'll start to play with a little more intensity and focus. Just guessing on that, but I think he's proven how his influence is working on the D side of the ball.

Posted by: no nothing on October 30, 2009 7:30PM CST
T-OC. I agree 100% with you with what is going on defensively. Unfortunately, our problems are on the offense. With this type of offense they have selected, we are almost requiring shutouts by the defense each game in order to win. That is asking a little to much out of a defense IMO.

See ya all tomorrow. GO BIG RED!

TommyOC remember to tell your son to compete on every play and all to soon the game will be over you never want to look back and wished you played harder.

SVH - We beat up on Williston this year. One of our better games. Bismarck has some really good players in their JR high level programs. There is a kid on my son's team who would make a great fullback or LB if he keeps progressing.

I definitely want and need to build my boy up a bit Wreatler. He loves to play and has good speed and is really taking to the coaching he's getting. I know he needs to build up, or I'll be paying some serious med bills sooner than later.

You mentioned golf before. I would really like to get both my boys more into golf. I was a 2 handicap at the age of 16 and have won many amature golf competitions. Club championship at our CC in California. I played the SCGA match play and team play events for a lot of years. My son has a great golf swing and can hit it long and putts well, but he's just not all that into it. He says he likes to hit and be hit. Go figure. When I was a kid, I could not wait to get to the golf course and I was beating my dad before I was my son's age. I don't want to ever force anything on my boys, but golf is a great game and can make them many contacts in life. I guess I'll just have to keep taking them out with me and hopefully they will one day love the game as much as I do. I hope.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:35PM CST
Actually - I think you mentioned golf in the same sentence as "paint drying" or something to that effect.

If you're not good at something, it's always less appealing. LOL

Tommy...was home and golfed The Links of ND earlier this year...wanted to get down to play Bully Pulpit but did not have a chance. I told Wrestler earlier that there is a girl that goes to HS 4 blocks from me and I've seen her at the range. She drives 290 and qualified for the US Women's Open at at 15 this year. (Sorry to keep telling this story Wrestler...)

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:40PM CST
SVH - She's Korean?

Bully Pulpit is bitchin. Next time you're around here, let's go play them both.

I've played some of the best courses around and Bully rates right up there with many of them. The natural beauty of the Badlands is really hard to beat.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 7:45PM CST
I had a partner back in CA that tossed his putter and it stuck in this big tree, way up high in it. We could even see it it was up there so high. Well, about three weeks later, we're playing at a different time of day and we were looking up there and the sun hit it just right. So one of the guys climbed up there and got it out. He didn't toss anything towards that tree again.

There were also bigass Blackbirds that live in that same tree who would swoop down and peck holes in my friends Bloody Mary every time he left it unattended. They probably were getting drunk and hiding his putter from him. :)

TommyOC, golf is not my bag? Hey pretty good! Silicon is the man, well until he gets shown up by those extreme teenage phenoms out there in northern CA. So Silicon can help you to me TommyOC, sounds like you were talented? Watching golf on TV is as much fun as watching paint dry, I will hunt rats instead now that gets me pumped! Maybe in the future I will change my screaming to some avatar names on here I don't like?

Tommy....yeah, Links was quite good too. I haven't played the swanky courses around here (e.g. Pebble) but Links compared to a lot of courses out here.

The young lady is not Korean....not exactly sure, some Pacific Islander I believe. Last name is Tumangan. She played a round at the US Open with Paula Creamer, who is from just up the road in Pleasanton and outdrove her on pretty much every hole....but as you know, long drives aren't sufficient alone

I dont throw my clubs and more. I got one stuck as well. I have learned as hard as I try I will always suck so I might as well enjoy. First time I took my GF out she whupped my but it was on a little Par 3 course and she could hit the ball straight.

Wrestler, I felt the same way about TV golf until I got into playing it. I think it gives you more of an appreciation for some of the things the pros do.

Tommy...I played Poppy Hills (used for the PB ProAm) and halfway down the first fairway, I went to hit a shot and one of those blackbirds got into the dash pocket on the cart and was off with my chicken sandwich in about 5 seconds.

I heard the links up there is really a nice.

Paula is pretty, and good. Two important qualities in my book. Anika once followed my group down at Aviara in San Diego. She was pretty young and not that well known then. She could really smack it. I followed Tiger around Riviera, when he was 15. I knew he was gonna be something special. He won the PAC 10 Championship across the street from our office. I closed the company and took the entire crew over there to watch him play. Couple of my guys got their picture in the LA Times standing behind Tiger hitting it out of a bunker.

Oh yeah, this is a football blog. I forgot all about that.

I dont want Jason Peters having any part of this team. Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love the guy, loved the way he played. I just dont quite think he should be leading college age kids in any manner. JMO of course, but I think a whole lot of parents may not want their kid being inspired by a former drug addict. And he was no saint either. Those type of guys usually dont get coaching jobs for just that reason. Just my two cents.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 8:16PM CST
Inbread what are you talking about, regarding Jason Peters. You know once of the Peters brothers was accused of rape but charges were never brought forward.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 8:16PM CST
Inbread - I certainly didn't want to disparage the guy. That had crossed my mind as well, but he's also straightened his life out, so I don't see a reason why those things from a persons past have to haunt them the rest of their lives.

Bill Clinton didn't inhale, but he became the President of the United States anyway.

I also don't feel a need for Jason Peter on any Husker staff, but it would be for different reasons.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:16PM CST
Thats not it BRG. ITs about perception. Name another school that has a drug addict, one who even had a book written about it, as a coach. You just dont do that. Besides, just because you can play the game, doesn't mean you can teach it.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 8:19PM CST
Inbread....agreed. Regarldess of his lack of sainthood.....when pointed in the right direction, Peters will go 100 miles an hour. When pointed in the wrong direction, he'll go 100 miles an hour. He's a motivator, but not the one to pick the direction.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 8:19PM CST
Back from a nap. Anything new?

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:22PM CST
Nish Yeah I also remember one of them used a beer bottle in a fight and somebody lost an eye. Like I said, its about perception.

Tommy Yeah, well Clinton didn't have sex with that woman either....lol

Dont think I have anything against Peters, I dont. I could care less one way or the other about the guy. I am happy he got his stuff together, thats about it.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:24PM CST
SVH, exactly, much better stated then I did though.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 8:25PM CST
I had a buddy who was going to NU at the time of the rape he said it happened, the Campus police responed but the police report dispeared. Plus there was piece of 60 or Dateline and the victim was on talking about the case she is invloved in a rape support group. I think I know which Peters Brother it was but, I don't know for sure so I don't want to say incase I'm wrong.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 8:26PM CST
BTW, I give him all the credit in the world for breaking his addiction. And this is not about forgiving or not. Its about judgement to choose the right direction as a leader. Maybe someday Peters will have that in his resume, but not yet.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:29PM CST
So just because I dont want JP as a coach, because he was an addict means I am attacking his character? Its not an attack. Its a stated fact, thats all. Some folks were stating reasons they WANTED him to coach or motivate, and I simply stated why I dont think he should. If you dont like it, sorry man.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 8:30PM CST
BRG,
I am not attacking just stating fact, thats why I won't state whick Peters it was that was involved. I can why you think a great player from the past could help the program.
So Go Big RED!

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 8:31PM CST
Looked in my mirror....no football going on there. Actually, since this is Silicon Valley and I'm getting ready to leave work, I didn't look in a mirror but I have a silicon wafer in my cube that is just like a mirror.

BRG, I may forgive the pilots who flew past Minneapolis because they were working on their laptops....that doesn't mean I want them flying my next flight. I'm not interested in any attack on Peter, just don't think he's head coaching material today from the very little I've seen.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:34PM CST
So because he got us wins we should overlook all his misdeeds? What kind of sense does that make? Johnny Rodgers robbed gas stations, Kellen Huston jacked a fan, LP did about everything wrong. Just because they played football does not erase what they did.

Posted by: Boonies on October 30, 2009 8:37PM CST
Not much, PT...just cussin' and discussin' some more. Still digging out up here in the north panhandle. Gonna be a sloppy mess when it melts!
RE Jason Peter (not Peters BTW). I have a ton of respect for what he thinks and has gone through. He was helping coach at a high school out in CA before he came back to NE, so I don't think his past is much of an issue. He still cares a LOT about the program and has some great points about the progress. He supports the staff, but thinks the O scheme is "soft"...can't say I disagree.

You can see the last Big Red Wrap Up on your computer by going to

Me thinks BRG goes to the church of Jimmy Swaggart :)

Easy there....pretty soon we're all a bunch of pathetic bums for not voting him in as president of the US. If someone has done something wrong and turned it around, they deserve any job that they aren't qualified for, apparently.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 8:39PM CST
Your definition and my definition of support are not the same. Unless it’s a family member that has a substance I problem I don’t have to give unconditional support and would choose to cut my ties. You want an example of supporting a prior Husker. I still would like to see Lawrence Philips get his live turned around. I have had many of arguments with friends outside the program who criticize Tom for sticking with Lawrence and not kicking him of the team. If Lawrence would turn his life around and become a functional citizen I still would not want him to coach the Husker’s RB.

boonies, Where in the panhandle are you.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 8:42PM CST
OK BRG, think what you want man. I'm done talkin bout that stuff now. I dont know what went on today, and I wasn't any part of it. I just got on here about half hour ago, and everyone was talking that subject, so I put in my two cents. I am sorry you dont like my opinion.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 8:43PM CST
I think I said I did not want to disparage the guy and also felt he's turned his life around. You seem to lump everyone who doesn't agree with your opinions into a group.

Jason Peter has never coached a football team, has he? To my knowledge, he talks a lot about how others should or shouldn't do their coaching jobs. That's what he gets paid to do. Talk about others with others.

I just don't think he's qualified to bring much of anything to the Husker coaching staff. His resume is weak. It has nothing to do with what he's done, it's what he hasn't done that makes me say he doesn't bring any coaching experience to the party.

First of all, I don't want to see Jason Peter as a coach, at least at this point. I don't think the kind of reactionary talk that gets you a living on talk radio fits well with the type of personality you have as coach. Pelini is a fired-up guy, but he's patient, and, as he says himself, he never gets too high, or too low. In other words he doesn't overreact. Osborne was the same way, to the point that people thought he was too bland or boring. But even after winning national championships, Osborne didn't get very high.

That said, Peter does make a good point about the reality of recruiting the same types of players every other school in the Big 12 is recruiting, and I think he makes a good point about how the team needs to be more physical.

Peter's past drug addiction has nothing to do with why he shouldn't be a coach. If we held everyone back because of one mistake they'd made in their past, nobody would ever make it anywhere. Furthermore, his experience in that area, and his overcoming it, would probably be more of an asset to him, dealing with 18-21 student-athletes who have a TON of pressure on them to succeed.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 8:47PM CST
BRG...there is nothing pathetic about saying he has no experience as an OC and doesn't have the resume to coach at NU today. Yes, there were some personal comments made. Step back from them and tell me he has the background that you would choose as a college assistant over Scott Frost.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 8:48PM CST
Personally I don't care what Peter did in the past. He has kicked his problems and is working a t a job that suits him. Good on him. Just theink he is living in the past a bit. But he is selling himself to a segment of the public and doing quite well at it. I have only heard him once so I will not judge.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 8:49PM CST
Can we get back to talking about golf again. The testosterone levels are getting elevated on here again.

I agree, I'd like to see Lawrence Phillips turn his life around. I thought it was noble of TO to try and turn that kid. He appears to be somewhat of a lost cause, but Swaggert will give him another shot. :)

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 8:49PM CST

And I actually agree with that point about once a husker always a Husker BTW. You call it disrespecting, I call it stating the facts as I see it. You can't change the past, and the past always has consequences in the future, like it or not.

Once a Husker, always a Husker?

Callahan, Cos, Pederson, Watson (after he's fired or moves on to a HC job) Gilmore, Blake, Bohl, others, I know I'm not including many who are not worthy.

Once a Husker always a Husker? Somehow I don't think the statement stands up well with a large percentage of the fanbase. Just saying, oh the hypocracy of it.

I agree with that statement 100%. Once a Husker, always a Husker. If they want to be one anyway.

I don't see why you're getting so uptight? I'm sure you feel it's justified, or you wouldn't do it, but I doubt many would want you to bring that type of attitude around to a party. I could be mistaken. I wouldn't want to be around it.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:27PM CST
Just joshen about the trailer. If you are serious about coming please let me know. This is inside and they are trying to somewhat control the numbers. But all that can be there are welcome. Many that are invited can't or won't come so that will not be a major issue. And I have some old tires if you need them. (joke son)

if the huskers play anything like they have the last few games we lose big time. dont matter if Mr. Green is playing or not. this game is a toss up to me. the team that wants this game the most will find a way to win. GO BIG WANT IT.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 9:29PM CST
PT LOL
Of course you kidding about the trailer, me to. I'm making fun of my Nebraska roots. lol. I did live in a trailor growing up in NE. We had a doulbe wide. You could literaly climb the walls. lol

So, to summarize the last half hour...some thought JP's comments about the O were right on. Others thought he wasn't an expert on O. Some thought he would be a good coach and others disagreed. And some thought we were all pathetic and punks for expressing the opinions. Well, that was a useful.

Most accurate statement was by Inbread.....Jenna Lee is a babe. (whether Zac has 5 TDs or INTS).

Hope the team kicks some butt tomorrow..I'm out of here.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:32PM CST
Taco, unless our O turns it over close to paydirt, or gives up a 6, or they happen to score on special teams, I dont think Baylor gets a sniff of the endzone. Field goal? Maybe. If Suh and Crick dont put a mitt on it that is...

nite Silicon,

Posted by: Boonies on October 30, 2009 9:33PM CST
Well, as Yogi said, "Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical"...... lol

Bo's earning his money getting this team in mental shape IMO. The offensive scheme is suspect, of course, but getting their confidence back is really important now. I think they get it back tomorrow!

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:38PM CST
inbread..hope you are right my friend. should be a good game to watch. GO BIG RED

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:41PM CST
How much snow Northerner, I mean Boonies. Gotta be from Harrison. That is the Boonies.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:42PM CST
Wish I could watch it tomorrow, but I'll have to record it and hopefully listen on the radio after my boys game. His starts at 11 about two hours from here. So by the time I get home, it will pretty much be finished.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:44PM CST
Who ya playing Inbread?

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 9:45PM CST
In order to watch the game I will have to go to a Husker bar here in Vegas at 0930. A bar in the AM oh Lord!

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:46PM CST
BTW. I think the game will be over by half time. If it was High school they would run a continuous clock.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:46PM CST
The number four seed. Mannsford. In Dewey. MAke sense?....lol We are the number one seed in our playoffs, and we have to travel two hours to play the first playoff game. When we win though, the championship is here at home. And we will win.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:49PM CST
Nish, dont go to the bar in the AM too often, you might get accused of being me.....lol

PT, we have the same rule sort of. When one team is up by 30, it only stops for quarters and time outs. Makes the games go wicked fast.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:50PM CST
I said earlier today that I hope the D get some points early. IMO all this offense needs is some pressure off. I think then they might just explode. This futility we have seen is in their heads. If it ever leaves look out.

Posted by: dbhuskers on October 30, 2009 9:50PM CST
28-10 Huskers.

Youngsters get a lot of PT.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:53PM CST
I think if the Huskers score early, we could hang half a hundred on em. Like you PT, I think its all mental. Or at least 90% like Boonies said. Its like breaking the seal when you have been drinking. Once you start, you just dont quit.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:53PM CST
Inbread, is this your first round. If you are traveling you must have won a game.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:56PM CST
LOL Inbread. Fortunately I have mastered the quitting thing when it comes to drinking. It was touch and go in my younger days however.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:56PM CST
PT, there is only one round before the championship. They decide before the season where all playoff games will be played. But we have the number one seed. Keep in mind, I am talking about third graders. My oldest boy is only in third grade.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 9:56PM CST
Inbread in Vegas ya pretty much have to go to a bar in the AM if your one is going to watch the games on TV. The again, recenlty me being a true Husker fan has been questioned. Hey if I have a beer tomorrow it will be a Red Beer!

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:58PM CST
Bread. Got ya. I get the pleasure of 3rd grade Volley ball tomorrow. Yippee. Grand daughter action.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 9:59PM CST
Nish, in Vegas, I pretty much wake up in a bar in the AM....lol

PT, yeah I quit drinking all the time. But I just keep starting back up....lol

Nope, not THAT far in the boonies. I'm in Gordon

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 10:02PM CST
Ok here's my prediction

Huskers 56
Baylor 3
Hukser roll tomorrow. With the Whack-A-Mole Offense.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:03PM CST
Yep Nish. We also have a nine game season. So we will have played 11 official games when its all said and done.

PT, I miss watching VB. It is non existent down here. We just have fall softball, basketball, spring softball. Those are pretty much the 3 choices for girls. Of course there is track too, but you can only do spring SB, or cross country, or track.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 10:05PM CST
Where you at Inbread, KY? lol

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:05PM CST
You know whats kind of funny, I have never seen a volley ball game played in a non college gym here, but the lines are still painted on every hardwood. I have yet to figure out why.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:07PM CST
Nish, I live in Perry Oklahoma. 20 miles NW of Stillwater. Home of the Ditch Witch, and the most decorated high school wrestling team in the country.

Boonies, My wife was from Gorden. A long time ago. Graduated in 67. She has a brother in Chadron that is a Chiropractor.

Nish. I have watch VB most of my adult life. Had a daughter that Played at KU. Great game once you figure it out.

Wow! Small world. I'm a newcomer to the area...only been here 30 years (you know how that goes)...lol. Probably don't know her, but if there's family still here, would probably know them.

if this is 'the Iowa St game w/o the TOs...', then we win 56-9...right?

K, I'll say 53-9 as we get one FG.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:18PM CST
bruNo, at 53 with a field goal. Does that mean we go for two once?

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 10:20PM CST
Hey when we went through Norman to get to the 85 Sugar Bowl we put bumpers stickers all over the welcome to OKhoma sign. It said I God was going to give the US an anemia it would give it in Norman Oklahoma.

Posted by: Boonies on October 30, 2009 10:21PM CST
Yup, know em all. All great people. My kids were friends with a couple of the Goodrich's.

Well, gotta get some chores done so I can watch the game and then spend the rest of the day either cryin' or smilin'

Cheer hard, everyone!!

Posted by: bruNo on October 30, 2009 10:21PM CST
7x7 is 49, + 1 FG = 53, just like I said...

Ha Ha Nish....yeah. I went to the game in Norman when we played there in 04 (I think). We lost 30-3. Looked terrible, mad esome hillbillie comments etc. The fans are actually really nice to Husker fans for the most part. Whatever you do, dont wear orange there though. Either color of orange. They are VICIOUS to all things orange. Seriously.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:35PM CST
Hey now, dont accuse all Sooners of knowing football. They (like most teams) have their fair share of douche bags. If you question it, some time listen to the sports animal down here...lol But I agree. As far as football knowledge goes, they can hold thier own.

Posted by: bruNo on October 30, 2009 10:36PM CST
I'm actually kind of feeling I would like to see Zac Lee start clicking 2morrow and have a great game and start proving that he's had a great upside all along. Of course, it wont matter too much against Baylor, but maybe the 'light' will go off for him a bit 2morrow.

At the same time, I am anxious to see CG in there as the starter.

Posted by: NorthTX Husker on October 30, 2009 10:38PM CST
When things go bad I rant, never before Tom left, although I do now. But upon reflection later in the week I know it has always been about coaching: USC, ND, NU, OK, it doesn't matter if the coaches can't get it done. I think we have good ones now and it will happen for us.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:42PM CST
Yeah bruNo, I still dont think CG should start. I realize I am a minority, but I dont feel Lee is the entire issue. I would prefer to see CG get rotated in though. Kind of like when Tebow was a rook, Chris Leak still started, but Tebow got his plays too. I think we could do something similar, and it would really really help this offense.

Posted by: bruNo on October 30, 2009 10:42PM CST
Well, Big Red has been a big topic on Rivals Radio this week I know that much. Bill King, who's opinion I respect a ton, says, like many of us have already and for some time, that we need to be running the football, that is our identity.

Says the D is back and that Pelini is the premier 'fit' for NE. Just seemed like there was WAY more NE talk on that show than the usual ND, FL, USC, TX stuff...

Posted by: bruNo on October 30, 2009 10:45PM CST
inbread,
yep, CG should be doing the Tebow thing, some of us have been saying that for a few weeks now. Makes total sense and I can't see why they havent done it yet.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 10:45PM CST
I think Zak or Cody will start tomrrow

Posted by: BearsBeatPackers on October 30, 2009 10:48PM CST
I don't usually do predictions, and after the last couple weeks, I'm awfully gun shy. Maybe we need some replacements to come in and shake things up.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:49PM CST
Nish, nope. Its between Taylor or LaTravis. My friends' cousins' sisters' roomate, said her brothers' friends' older brother washes the teams socks, and heard it in the locker room.

Posted by: bruNo on October 30, 2009 10:50PM CST
We're going to get a good does of Khiry Cooper, Antonio Bell, and Brandon Kinnie it appears along with Paul.

I havent given up on Meno yet, though.

Posted by: Inbread on October 30, 2009 10:51PM CST
BBP, totally agree. I dont see anyone on offense who we shouldnt try to "replace". I dont think anyone on that side of the ball is above reproach.

Said it earlier in the week, sticking by it. Bo's influence and personality rub off on the offense. Five wins later we all laugh about how concerned we were going into the Baylor game.

Posted by: rattenkriegplatte on October 31, 2009 12:57AM CST
Come on Sipple with a merely functional offense this team blows out Baylor. 24-7 really? I realize some may say I'm drinking to much kool-aid but this has blow out written all over it. Our defense is aggressive and nasty and I think Bo is finally pissed enough at our offense that he has gotten much more involved. This team releases a LOT of pent up frustration this weekend and obliterates Baylor. Call me crazy but the attitude from the players and coaches give me the feeling that we will see the most dangerous team in the Big 12 start hitting on all cylinders in Waco. If I'm wrong I'll never call you out again, if I'm right, well I get to say I told you so and we'll leave it at that.

Posted by: rattenkriegplatte on October 31, 2009 1:05AM CST
We both know I'm lying, even if I'm wrong I'll call you out on something else in the future. That's what you get for being one of my favorite sports writers. I read you first so you get b!t@#ed at first. Comes with the territory. Sure you're used to it by now.

I also predict something bad will happen and people will read into it more than there is.

Human nature. Go figure!

Right now we are an average football team with a very good defense. Am I happy with that? NO

Still I am proud to be a Husker fan!

IMO we should win this game easy. think baylor is down to their 3rd string QB. we have owned this team for years. would be a good game to get cody some playing time. we should win...but thats what i said last week. let's turn this thing around..we could start a really good run into 2010 and win out in NC game next year.
