Predictions: Huskers-Florida Atlantic
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on September 4, 2009 at 6:51PM CST
As those who frequent the blog are aware, the night before games we like to have an open blog to let everyone air their predictions and final thoughts before the big game.

I'll get it started by calling my shot: Huskers 44, Florida Atlantic 17.

I think Florida Atlantic will bust one or two big plays, but otherwise struggle mostly because I think Nebraska's front four will make life difficult for Rusty Smith.

And considering this FAU team lost its top six tacklers and all its starting linebackers from last year -- not to mention two injuries on the D-line -- Nebraska should be able to "pound the rock" tomorrow. Look for Roy Helu to have a big day and Zac Lee to have a comfortable first start.

But that's just one man's opinion. Let's hear from all the rest of you. And if you don't have an account, get one and join the discussion.

To help fuel your fire, here's your Husker Youtube Clip of the Week.

37-13 BAM!!!

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 7:02PM CST
I actually don't make predictions... since I'm superstitious. But if I did... 37-13 would be my guess.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 7:05PM CST
driveby))) I saw your "Oh go Bam yourself" post on that other thread. How can you possibly not like my "BAM!!!"... Dan LeBatard style... when I get the 1st post?

I thought you were my brother? What happened to us?

Posted by: Low Country Husker on September 4, 2009 7:05PM CST
Nebraska by 35

bam yurself

31 to 24

Posted by: Jaz on September 4, 2009 7:05PM CST
I want to say 38-17. The spread is 21 but I didn't know that when I formulated my score. I am pumped for tomorrow.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on September 4, 2009 7:08PM CST
Step

37? Did they go for 2 or get a safety?

Posted by: redcornman on September 4, 2009 7:08PM CST
Step - I thought you borrowed that BAM from Emeril...

42-13 Huskers

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 7:10PM CST
No... but I have heard Emeril does it also. I think he actually got that from me.

Posted by: Ice Station Omaha on September 4, 2009 7:11PM CST
30-17

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 7:11PM CST
Low Country))) Thats 11 FG's and a safety.

Posted by: Husker512 on September 4, 2009 7:12PM CST
Huskers 512-0

Posted by: Low Country Husker on September 4, 2009 7:15PM CST
Step

Well a win is a win!

I'm sure Bo would say they were lucky to have Henry and praise Suh for the Safety but would point out there is a lot of work left to do and they aren't where they need to be.....yet

Posted by: drivebyposter on September 4, 2009 7:16PM CST
baming is okay

gbr Like to see some real consistent steady play. sunbelt conference don't mean that much. Big 12 does not set up well for the corn.

Predict Swift cut by the broncos today

Posted by: wildlovehog on September 4, 2009 7:41PM CST
32-0, 16 safeties!

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 7:44PM CST
sticken with the origional. 35- 7. Fau scores late.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 8:01PM CST
I think Swift will get cut too. In fact... he already has.

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:05PM CST
To bad. And I am not sure if he saw enough action to get picked up. Besides the Broncos suck. If he can't make it there it does not look good.

Posted by: The Old Scout on September 4, 2009 8:16PM CST
Huskers by 10, 31-21. Huslers struggle early with false starts, dumb penalties, a few breakdonns but settle down second half and size, athleticism and depth take over. Closer than what it should be. No matter what the winning score it doesn't bnefit them in the polls. This is not a statement game.

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:21PM CST
You been drinken with Big Wave Dave. (Grin).

I agree however that we could see some offensive mistakes early. Just not sure FAU can capitalize.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:24PM CST
My Sister thinks even the Huskers can beat the Broncos.

Nebraska 35 FA 10.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:26PM CST
Waiting to hear if Woodhead got cut and wondering if Purify made the cut. He was another fan favorite.

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:30PM CST
IH That is funny. And if I remember , she is a fan. The backup QB did a nice job last night

GBR 31
those guys 10

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:32PM CST
First games are always adventures for both teams. Hopefully we don't give FA some hope for the upset.

Posted by: Redinten on September 4, 2009 8:34PM CST
5 offensive touchdown
2 defensive touchdown
1 field goal (first drive nerves)
Huskers win 52-0

Husker defense takes no prisoners Sat. night

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:35PM CST
PT - she is a big time Bronco fan, currently she is not a happy camper. She just loved Cutler, and thinks Denver did him wrong. She is still upset about it.

Posted by: drivebyposter on September 4, 2009 8:35PM CST
Your sister is very very very smart

Posted by: Tennessee-Husker87 on September 4, 2009 8:35PM CST
Now I wish that I was driving through Lincoln tomorrow instead of flying into Denver and driving back ... oh well, will be dialed into the Big Red network from Ogallala and points beyond (thanks redinten!).

Huskers roll 48 -- 13

GBR!!

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:36PM CST
Woodhead currently listed 4th on the depth chart. It would appear he is on the bubble.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:36PM CST
helu will have about 150 yds

Posted by: Redinten on September 4, 2009 8:36PM CST
at least thats why I'm paying the 30 bucks

Posted by: TommyOC on September 4, 2009 8:37PM CST
I have it
Huskers 38
Owls 13

Time to put it out there on the field. Man, I can't wait for tomorrow.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:39PM CST
how bout that Ankrah guy, he gonna b rs'd or is he breaking into the lineup?

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:41PM CST
Looked again. Heis listed 2nd as both kic and punt returner. Looks like he might stick.

Posted by: no nothing on September 4, 2009 8:42PM CST
I predict the first play of the game by NU will be a fullback trap and it will go for 35 yards. I further predict that the fullback will have 50 plus yards running the ball. We will win this game by a score of either 21-17 or 56 -10. I don't know enough about this team to pick just one at this point in time.
GBR

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:42PM CST
i think he's gonna b a player, 3rd string DE or so about 4-5 games into the season

Posted by: "huskersRback" on September 4, 2009 8:44PM CST
tho I hope I'm wrong....

Huskers 20

Fla Atlantic 17

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:45PM CST
these guys will have some talent, heck, they're from FL. I expect it to be close for about 1 1/2 Qs, then we will start beating them into submission on both sides. Don't think we'll score tons of points cuz of ZL's 1st start.

check my prediction^^^.

(missing Q)

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:47PM CST
I never pick against the Huskers. Never.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:47PM CST
our D should be capable of a shutout w these guys, though I don't predict it.

Posted by: Redinten on September 4, 2009 8:48PM CST
After reading what Bo said this morning at the breakfast, we may get the fullback on the first play of the game. He keeps getting asked about it and is starting to understand we fans at Nebraska love our fullbacks.

Posted by: Redinten on September 4, 2009 8:50PM CST
bruNo its Fla, but its Boca.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:51PM CST
so im supposed to know boca?

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 8:51PM CST
Also he said he plans to play a lot of guys. Sounds kind of confident to me.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:53PM CST
gonna wear 'em down, yo. I might have to make the pilgrimage down to the infamous "ROGUE"(NYC) to watch the game with my korn peeps.

Predictions and final thoughts.

Prediction...
I predict that tomorrow will be a somber day for Husker Nation.

Thoughts...
This year I have noticed a substantial difference from not so long ago. There is a feeling of calm and quite expectation from many a fan. It is now clear that during the turbulent times our emotions ran their highest. This year is different. There is an unspoken hope from our fans that this is indeed the beginning of reconnecting to our past. The coaching staff has done everything that they can do and now it is time for the players to show what they have learned.

I have an eerie feeling about this year. I am reminded of all those years that we were so close but yet so far. I feel the same way this year about our path toward restoring the glory of the Huskers.

I recall often wondering if "this could be the year" and when I barely had any hope remaining it was miraculous what had happened.

That is how I feel about this year. The only difference is that this time I am full of hope.

So why do I predict a somber mood. Because I firmly believe that what Husker Nation sees tomorrow will bring a sudden awareness to our fans of how far we had fallen prior to bringing back those that understand our culture.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:56PM CST
Driveby - yes my sister is very smart and also very courageous. A special lady and proud to be her brother.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:56PM CST
u shut yo' boca, yo...ha, (j/k)

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 8:58PM CST
well thanks for sharing that mr somber, i mean bleeding....

I'm so revved, not somber in the least...!!!

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 8:59PM CST
BleedingRed - Huh.

Posted by: throw46 on September 4, 2009 9:01PM CST
Brian Christopherson wrote:" Look for Roy Helu to have a big day and Zac Lee to have a comfortable first start."

I think that it's a bit of the opposite. Lee will throw a lot. And the run game will be a little uncomfortable.

NU wins 38- 21. No Cody Green for this game.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:01PM CST
guess i am the 1st to disprove mr bleeding's hypothesis...

woot!

Thanks dbp. That video brings back memories

Time for some Husker prayer all...GBR 41-17

Dear Lord, the battles we go through life,

We ask for a chance that's fair,

A chance to equal our stride,

A chance to do or dare,

If we should win, let it be by the code,

Faith and Honor held high,

If we should lose, we'll stand by the road,

And cheer as the winners go by.

Day by Day, we get better and better!

The team that can't be beat, WON'T BE BEAT!

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 9:02PM CST
Somber I am not, and I don't think we will be somber tomorrow. Bleeding? Are you sure you are bleeding red, better check again?

Go Big Red

Posted by: RedDog77 on September 4, 2009 9:05PM CST
NOT SOMBER! Huskers roll 52-7.

Posted by: nino_43 on September 4, 2009 9:05PM CST
Its difficult for me to make any predictions with us having so many new faces playing tomorrow so i ll predict what i want to see. On D, want to see a swarming, fast, athletic, ball-hawking, Hard hitting group! Lots of gang tackling. Disciplined assignment football. Limit the missed tackles and the blown assignments. I wont get greedy on the TOs, ill settle for lots of 3 and outs! gonna go get another dos xx, and ill be back with my wish-list for the O.

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:07PM CST
Euphoric, Buzzed, excited, pumped, and dang impatient for 6:00.

Definitely not somber.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 9:08PM CST
I think we are going to run the football very effectively. But, in the end I don't care whether we throw 50 times or run the ball 50 times as long as we get the W.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:08PM CST
k, now for a brief interlude into something completely different.

bruNo introduces: "Off the Wall 'Queries'(ha ha, get it?)"

#1--if i say, for e.g., "I have to go 'brush' 'Matise'"...would that be considered a double pun?

clue: my teeth & brush

k, back to GBR talk....carry on...

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 9:12PM CST
I don't think I have a somber bone in my body.

BleedingRed is a person who has low expectations. Now that's no fun at all. Bo says he want fans to have high expectations, and I am with him on that.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:12PM CST
I take it tha mr PT like to feeesh....

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:13PM CST
STOP THE BLEEDING!!!!!

(dang, i'm ona roll here...)

Posted by: Islander/Husker on September 4, 2009 9:17PM CST
Well, I have regrettably got to shut it down for the night. Folks game day is nigh. The 2009 Huskers are going to make their appearance. Who is going to be the star of the game for the Huskers. I hope the fans are loud and noisey the whole game.

Go Big Red.

Posted by: RedDog77 on September 4, 2009 9:20PM CST
GBR. PACT

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:25PM CST
Feeeeshing is good. Makes you un somber.

and bleeding does not have low expectations his are the same as ours. I think he is trying to say that we will be amazed at how far we had fallen. Thus the somber reflection of our recent past.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:25PM CST
will someone plz post 27 times so i can get #100?!

BTW. This should help get to 100. LOL

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:42PM CST

i meant to say, "completely liberated, ttly pc, moderately appealing women....

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:44PM CST
When you can see 70 not that far down the road that is the tech you are used to. and it works when you can't see very well also.

Prescription polarized lenses are about 500 smacks so these work for me.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:45PM CST
i get the cheap shades and the 7/11, 6.99 or so, i always wreck em

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 9:47PM CST
I would go with VT tomorrow over Bama and their new QB. I think Ty Taylor could be the difference. But I know it... the VT fans know it... everybody knows it... VT doesn't get the hogs up front in recruiting to play with the big boys. They never can run it at an unstoppale pace.... like Bama can.

Should be a great game.

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:48PM CST
So, based on your absence, I'm guessing you are back to work. Or at least have been.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on September 4, 2009 9:49PM CST
I'm 7/11 shades also. The uglier the better. I'll see this lima bean green pair with golden tassles and I'm like... I gots to have those.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:50PM CST
omg, work, yea, buildin a house, 10 monthy JOB, real cool, will post a pic on MYJOURNALSTAR page or wtever it is so u can see...muchos musicos tambien

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:51PM CST
I think VT will prolly beat bama, i dunno, tough one to pic, Tyrod gives them an edge,

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:53PM CST
If I did not run into walls with out my glasses that is what I would do also. Not quite that bad but close. VT will win cause Lou and May both picked Bama. good enough reason for me. Sides I want the undefeated when we kick em.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:57PM CST
i dunno, i'd just as soon see bama beat em, though i hate saban, i dont want VT all full of themselves later

Posted by: PT Husker on September 4, 2009 9:58PM CST
Well it is up to you and steph to get to 100. I did my best to help.

Posted by: bruNo on September 4, 2009 9:59PM CST

I don't want Bo to hit me under the chin. Ow!

My plan is A is to pay 29.95 and watch on PPV. I could go to the Husker Alumni bar for the game but I like being home more

Ditto here! If someone finds out about an internet broadcast of the game, put it up as soon as you know!

Yeah Busie, you could say I was an am excited. This is a traditionally sucky program, and last year was our best record in a while, going 3-5. We went 0-8 the year before. This is the first time we've won our opener in four years, and on all the sites I saw, they were predicted to win by four. They beat us 33-19 last year, with one of our touchdowns coming from our JV. This was AWESOME!

I wish a local (heck even within 60 miles) bar around here would carry the Huskers! I have yet to find one close to Indy.

So far, this is the only online broadcast to listen to the game. May have to sign up for their free 7 day trial to get it tho.

Where did you go?

Posted by: Low Country Husker on September 5, 2009 9:45AM CST

Neon Johnny's is No longer in Service.
No answer at Damon's.

I think I'v tried those last year, and didnt have much luck. Not unless of course you have been there recently. Those listings are out of date sadly.

HoosierHusker: I was just there and Huskers.com is brodcasting the game. It says no pregame coverage but the game will be on.

Posted by: HoosierHusker on September 5, 2009 10:24AM CST
Hmmm.. I'll have to check it out close to game time, because the site says to me.. it has Pre-game coverage, but No Game Coverage.

Now maybe im reading it wrong, but No Game Coverage to me... means.. they are not broadcasting during the game.?

51-6, Huskers!!!

Posted by: Husker512 on September 5, 2009 10:45AM CST
I said Huskers512-0 but I think Husker51-2 is little bit more realistic. FAU will get a safety when that pic poaching squirrel jumps out in front of Niles Paul on a KO return causing him to fumble back into the endzone where he has to just fall on the ball, preventing a turnover for 6.
