Prediction thread: NU-Kansas
Posted by: Steve Sipple on November 13, 2009 at 8:01AM CST

Breakfast has been served. Big thanks to Ol' McKeever for again being our early morning guy.

Sounds like Mike Ekeler gave the Big Red Breakfast crowd a shot of caffeine. Or maybe Red Bull. Good energy and vibes all around at Husker camp this week.

Will it continue Saturday at Kansas?

I know everyone's just dying to know what the LJS staff thinks. I'm thinking 24-17, Nebraska.

Bring it like a linebacker, bloggers!

Another Big Red road win. Reesing gets sacked many times, we intercept him many times, and Roy Helu rolls for over a hundred.

NU 27
KU 6

(Does KU have a kicker that's better than OU? If not, I may want to revise my prediction to KU=0.)

Posted by: Papillion_Husker on November 13, 2009 8:16AM CST
Steve--I'm guessing you think this will be an offensive "breakout" game? I'll play along:

24-10 NU

10 pts will come from special teams and/or KU turnovers. A heavy dose of Helu and McNeill is in order. I can't see KU scoring any more than they did against KSU, barring busted coverages (big plays).

Posted by: Average Joseph on November 13, 2009 8:18AM CST
Hey All,

I've been reading these boards for quite sometime but never joined up. It will be fun to interact with everyone.

GBR!!!

Posted by: Nebtech on November 13, 2009 8:24AM CST
I think our defense will get the job done, especially if they can get some early hits on Reesing. Somewhere I read that he has been acting a little scared/flighty. A good hit on him early in the game might be enough to keep him on edge and off his game, so I am going to only allow KU 7. I am more concerned about what our offense will perform like. If we play the conservative game that we played against OU I would only look for us to beat them by one score (14) If the offense is able to shift gears and perform like they did for a quarter in Missouri, then I would look for more like 28 points for the Huskers....

All of that said; I will go with NU 17, KU 7

Posted by: Country Husker on November 13, 2009 8:26AM CST
Average Joe,

Of course you relaize that you will be required to take a position on Watson, and our starting quarterback, in order to participate.

So which is it? Fire now? Start the freshman? Give Wats a raise? Start the general? Come on, the debate awaits...... (lol)

Jusk kidding, welcome.

( and I have to get back to work now, this blog is addictive )

NU 19 - KU 14. Field goal and safety make the difference. Can't wait for this game to start. C yu at the game.

Posted by: Average Joseph on November 13, 2009 8:35AM CST
Thanks for the warm welcomes!!

My Official position: (subject to change)

I'm a little fired up about Watson and his "take what they give you" mentality. It just seems that we give and the opposing defense takes. As far as the QB - its really hard to say...choose your own poison. Although IMO Green will be something special in yeasr to come.....I hope!

Posted by: RockHusker on November 13, 2009 8:37AM CST
Anybody that is thinking about maybe coming....... well come on down, I believe tickets will be easy to find. People in Lawrence are openly talking about.......why bother going. I think it will be a good close....low scoring game. But we need all the Husker fans we can get.

I predict...a slice of pain cake for Reesing. AND YOU DON"T WANT SECONDS OF THAT!

19 to 3 NU

We get 8 safeties and a field goal. Take that to the bank. GBR!!!!!!!!

Posted by: RockHusker on November 13, 2009 8:45AM CST
FFH - I hope you are right....... That would be awesome. Reesing is banged up...groin. RB Sharp is not right either. Briscoe and Meirer are as good of recievers any in the conference. The defense is suspect. Safety Stuckey is ALL BIG 12. The guy is everywhere, he has saved them so many time this year. Fun to watch.

Posted by: RockHusker on November 13, 2009 8:50AM CST
Every day in the paper here they have talked about how are they going to stop SUH from wreaking Freaking havoc. Sure would be a great time for our offense to show up. Because anydody can score on KU. Well except KST much

Posted by: Average Joseph on November 13, 2009 8:53AM CST
24-13 - DONU

Take it to the bank.

Since our DB's have emerged as shut down caliber, Briscoe & Meier may sneak a couple in but not enough to hurt us. Sharp will have less than 50 yards on the ground.

Posted by: RockHusker on November 13, 2009 8:53AM CST
If not for Senior day..... I think we'd crush them. All their stars are seniors. I hope they enjoyed the little run they had. Because after this year it is for sure over........

Posted by: PT Husker on November 13, 2009 9:01AM CST
Defense pitches a shut out. Offense shows some life and ball control. 24-0 good guys.

Welcome Joe. Nice to see a new yakker.

Posted by: redfaced on November 13, 2009 9:09AM CST
Kansas does just enough on offense on senior day, KU 14-10.

Posted by: ScottF on November 13, 2009 9:11AM CST
As long as we don't have to depend on the offense to win this game, we should be all right, but it will be closer than it should be. When you don't know from week to week who your starting QB will be it does not make for a smooth offensive execution. Defense should create enough turnovers to allow NU to pull out this game:

NU - 26
KU - 17

Why can't we rely on our Defense? Last year we relied on our offense while the defense struggled this year is the opposite. Next year is the beginning of both playing well. this year one of the statistically best defense in the land is our strength. Play to it and enjoy.

FoFH wife is hot.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 13, 2009 9:26AM CST
I won't make even a fun prediction this week. For I am superstitious. And last week I predicted 13-6 Nebraska. It was 10-3... and Henery missed that FG that would have made it 13-3. Then a little later on... OU went for it on 4th down when they would have kicked a FG to make it 13-6.

Proof that my predictions effect the scores.

Never again.

Posted by: BrianFi on November 13, 2009 9:32AM CST
Suh had one of the best games of his 2008 campaign against Kansas. At that game last year he amassed 12 tackles 2 and a half sacks and a receiving goal line td. And this year @ Misery was another epic show. This NU defence has carried the load for the Huskers thus far. I see no let up from the D unit in this match up once again. Plus the jaybirds are more volnerable at key spots this week. Kansas and senior day may provide some early 1st half juice, but a steady dose of Suh and company will end senior day hopes. Watson is going to open up the play book as soon as the D controlls the game, and don't look now but the offense will be more productive on a ground attack than previous weeks. I hope for a big day from Helu and the o-line. Most likely a rerun of last weeks game with a little more juice from our offense.

So train, what do you think 10 to 14 spread?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 13, 2009 9:45AM CST
I have detected a terrible virus. It is affecting some husker fans. cause severe lack of faith in the defense continuing its dominant play. first discoverd in 2006. the cure was found in 2008 but it is working slower in some than others.

Fear not sufferers. Another dose of Pelinicillan will be administered agains Kansas.

Cosgroveites has been eliminated. all symptoms should be gone by this weekend.

Posted by: RockHusker on November 13, 2009 9:45AM CST
Step........ my band has what we call Potato Friday. You might guess why we call it that.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 13, 2009 9:50AM CST
It would be nice to see our offense control the ball on a sustained drive and score a TB. But, when was the last time that happened? I can't remember. If our defense has a bad day, and Reesing plays like he can, watch out. This could turn out to be a long day at Lawrence. As far as the score goes, we need to hold Kansas to 14 points or less, assuming we can kick 5 FGs to win.

Posted by: DenverHusker on November 13, 2009 9:54AM CST
NU - 19
KU - 6

12-6 late in the 4th, all field goals, and NU scores a defensive touchdown to seal the victory.

Roch))) I know why you call it "potato Friday."

It's because every Friday you shoot a potato cannon at passing potato vodka trucks. Right or wrong?

Posted by: AKHusker23 on November 13, 2009 9:59AM CST
I'm going with 19 - 10. Huskers score 1 TD and kick 4 FG's. Kansas can still move the ball a little bit, but won't score much against the Fantastic Four (Turner, Suh, Crick, Allen). I see us getting a truckload of pics again this week.

The story in some corners is that this game is an "upset special"

Corn favored by 3.

reasons:
breakout game for jailbird offense
jailbird d can handle the corn O
Slide game for corn D
Still no identity for corn O

It is just too painful.

This is a risky game.

The Blackshirts allow -10 yards rushing on the day (21 carries for 31 yards; 6 sacks for -41 yards)

17-0 at half time, then Green makes a couple freshman mistakes (as comes with the freshman process) allowing 2 FG's in second half. Crick has 10+ tackles and 3+ sacks again as they double and triple-team SUH all day....

Another Gofor sighting! Good to see everone in such a good mood. Myself, well I don't do predictions, but I do see quite alot of points for us in some of the score predictions. That's interesting to me. It seems the majority of the scores for us are in the 24 to 35 range, which to me may be a little high. If the defense scores one, or more, I can see us in that point total. If not I can't see us going much over 17. There were offensive positives last week and I look for a few more offensive positives this week. The possibility of Helu running wild does exist, so should that happen I could then see the possibility of 3 running TD's and one passing. This is giving me the "brain pain." Time for class.

“It was great,” said Derrick Malone about his Nov. 6 trip to Nebraska. “I loved it. I can’t say enough things about it. I thought the whole community was amazing. How they show support and love the team. I can’t believe the support they have. It was great to be in that kind of environment and be part of that.” Malone picked a good weekend to visit Nebraska as the Huskers beat Oklahoma 10-3.

I think we gotta be REAL choosey, since we're either at, or real close, to the point where any player we pick up either means another recruit gets dropped, or someone on the team is shown the door.

So I guess the question is, would we take Malone over guys like Odighizuwa, Cooper, Hill, or others.

We're getting into pretty sketchy territory.

Russ..

You gotta find a way to put a Jayhawk jersey on that thing.

I sued to have software that I could extract all the frames and then edit them then put them back together.

Been looking around, haven't found anything worth a crap that isn't complicated to learn or expensive.

Haven't looked real hard, wish I could remember the program I had before, it was pretty simple to use.

You could use a Flash editor of some sort. Either torrent the real deal or find a freeware version. That'll let you import the gif and then manipulate each frame.

lol easier said than done Sabado.

I'm not well versed on image editing, beyond simple basics. I have gimp and photoshopt4 or something but haven't taken the time to learn to use them beyond making a simple button or logo, or real simple cut n paste stuff.

Some day I'll take the time to figure it out, not today.

"they" say the corn is favored by 3 to 4.5.

Predict a blow out, meaning a win by at least 17.

I don't think NU can score that many points against anyone, my prediction is going to be I am counting on the defense to put pts on the board and FG's. Now if the offense wants to put some points on the board, that fine with me also.

REDUNG! Glad you finally came over to the GOOD side! Didn't get the "HI TODD" - how dumb can the "DOG" be? Is LI'l BO P having an affair with that cheer leader? If not, the H"DOGGIE" would like a shot or lick (dog lingo)! "TODDY BOY" runs for his life all afternoon! PS - that Meier guy ALWAYS seems to get open!

Now that the "DOG" thinks about it, I think REDUNG was being fasecious (sp)! He's definitely an anti Christ (Husker)!

I predict a Husker win. I don't do the whole actual score thing. Not too good at it at all, and with the week I've had, I'm afraid I'd jinx the Red.

i think every one underestimates our o, we've traded qb's, top rbs out our injuryed, top recievers benched from what looked like a great offense at the begining of the season we put a few pieces together our offense might suprise everyone in weeks to come

Posted by: BenAr2 on November 13, 2009 9:47PM CST
JonSt2 - It's not the players I think most of us have a problem with, it's the OC. He has instilled little confidence that he can use our athletes to their strengths. I expect more questionable play calls and scratching of body parts. If Helu is healthy and runs like he can, we win by 10 or more, but who knows; its a guessing game with this offense.

Huskers 24
Jaybirds 10

Fighting Manginos cant handle D front four starting two freshman, two sophomores, and a junior. Crick, Suh, Allen, Turner have a heyday in the Kansas backfield. Reesing never gets in a rhythm. Defense sets up an offensive score and scores themselves. Henery solid as ever punting and kicking.

HuskerzVA - The "DOG" wants your tractor & what you have on it !!! OH YAH - GAME DAY!!! GBR - Annihilate those "fightin" Mangino JBirds!!!
