Postgame: NU 17, KSU 3
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 21, 2009 at 10:57PM CST

Nebraska is going to the Big 12 Championship game for just the second time in the last 10 years.

Bo Pelini got a bath after the game. "Somebody sold me out," Pelini said of the water dousing. "I'm going to find out who it is, but I'll take it."

Pelini had a nice quote about his family after the win. His wife, Mary Pat, watched from a distance as he answered questions. "My family is everything to me," Pelini said. "They're excited. Believe me, I couldn't have success if it wasn't for my wife, my best friend, and the person who supports me, who allows me to do what I do. You have to be a prettty special woman to deal with me on a daily basis. My kids and my in-laws were here. I had a lot of friends here. It was a pretty special day for me."

About going for it on fourth-and-1 on their own 36 with a 17-3 lead, Pelini said players had a lot of confidence they'd get it and he believed them.

"We kind of went in there and said there's no way we're going to punt this ball," center Jacob Hickman said. "We're going to get this and go to Dallas right here."

Added Hickman: "Obviously this is a big one. Everything around the day being senior day and everything, it was a big one. It was fun to hoist that trophy."

Quarterback Zac Lee talked about how he bounced back from his second-quarter interception. "I tried to force the ball (with the interception)," Lee said. "I should have just thrown it down and took the field goal. Honestly, it's kind of out of sight, out of mind. As soon as it's over you just go on to the next thing."

the big time de recruit said he wasn't going to announce 'til the all-american game anyways, but you gotta think he liked what he saw from big suh.

Posted by: Miller on November 21, 2009 11:09PM CST
Congrats to the whole Nebraska team, the seniors and coaches. Great win, now go out and finish this season with a win against CU, don't think about TX until the season is finished guys!

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on November 21, 2009 11:11PM CST
oregon and cal were first on his list. Neither of their D's played great and oregon lost. Hope that matters.

Posted by: BearsBeatPackers on November 21, 2009 11:13PM CST
Goldenrod, I think you missed the last of that 2OT game. Oregon won on a run by Masoli.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on November 21, 2009 11:21PM CST
oh.lol someone said on here they lost . my bad. oh well it sounded good.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 21, 2009 11:25PM CST
SUH for ALL WORLD

Give that man a dumptruck for all the trophies he's gonna haul in

Sure looks smart coming back for his senior Year

That man deserves alot of credit for anchoring the resurgent Blackshirts. There is a name to be remembered for years to come.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 21, 2009 11:33PM CST
after all this Senior class has had to endure, what a way for them to go out

These guys should get alot of credit for the turnaround

Posted by: CurtB2 on November 21, 2009 11:36PM CST
under the heading stranger things have happened... the ducks and the Beavers play for the pac 10 championship in Eugene december 3rd. (Oregon Fans are a little odd, but fun:) ) So those of you doubters Have faith, a great defense will always keep a team in a game. If the offense can find any way to wiggle. Dallas Stadium could be a fun place for the red! But great year so far any way. nothing will take what those guys have done this year away from them now!:)

I hope our D shows up like it did for OU and Watts figures out some of his cute plays need to get put in the trash can and never used again.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 21, 2009 11:45PM CST
Big Red had some ups and downs, and deserve the accolades for playing great down the stretch

Posted by: TJ1 on November 21, 2009 11:46PM CST
Bruno, it seeams watts gets out of rythem a lot some times, nuff said. I can't figure it out, when we go under center, especially with a full back we do pretty well. Shotgun = loss of yards if running play and 60% scary if passing play.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 21, 2009 11:47PM CST
no nitpicking. we won

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 21, 2009 11:50PM CST
Kstate opened the playbook up today. Snyder is a good coach, and schemed really well against us. Ksu players played as hard as they could

But we won
North Champs
End of story

Posted by: TJ1 on November 21, 2009 11:51PM CST
Yeah I know blackshirt, a win is a win no matter how ugly, but sheesh, does it have to be ugly on O everytime???? I hope someone has an epiphany (sp?) next season before the Longwhores preferrably. I'm not much of a football guru but dang, the play calling looks schizophrenic.

Posted by: bruNo on November 21, 2009 11:51PM CST
TJ,
pretty much agree. some of the play action stuffed worked to prefection, but yea, Wats has got to get into a groove and stick with it. I would be happen if he just did Helu right, Helu left(off tackle), Helu up the gut, and an occasional play action off that stuff--at least until zac becomes a better passer, if that ever happens.

how many times is zac going to underthrow Niles, anyway? well, at least they;ve been completions for big plays.

k, rant over.....4 now ;).

Posted by: STLHusker on November 21, 2009 11:53PM CST
Great win...couldn't be happier! That said, Wats' play calling frustrates me to no end...

Posted by: bruNo on November 21, 2009 11:54PM CST
dang, got this 'f'ing adware virus going on, ttl pain in the tush...

Posted by: TJ1 on November 21, 2009 11:55PM CST
Makes you wonder if Nick Sabin says a thankyou to the Allmighty for unanswered prayers a couple years ago don't it Bruno?

If Watts is here next year and doesn't figure something out my 3 yr old is going to learn some new words and phrases that kindergarten teachers frown upon.

Posted by: StephenSt on November 21, 2009 11:55PM CST
Snyder did a helluva lot better than I would've thought. Have to assume once he re-opens the JUCO pipeline, they can't ever be taken lightly. As much as I hate him, got to admit he gets the most out of what he's got.

Posted by: bruNo on November 21, 2009 11:58PM CST
TJ,
can't ttly blame some of that on Wats. Zac made some bad plays--the INT and that one 3rd down and 3 where he could have easily ran for the ydage and then throws into trafiic for an incompletion(then BO rips him a new one on the sideline).

The O line isn't consistent either.

Well, ok, now I'm just repeating myself..

Posted by: The Wombat on November 21, 2009 11:59PM CST
Thanks to all the Husker faithful who formed an awesome 12th man this evening. The noise was a beautiful thing to hear on the game broadcast!

Posted by: STLHusker on November 21, 2009 11:59PM CST
bring on sCUm!

GO BIG RED!

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 12:00AM CST
He's a decent coach steph, a-hole that he is, he does a good job for K-state.

I wouldn't want him but you have to give it to him for making do with what he has. I wish we could do better with what we got but thats an old song and dance.

Although from what little I got to see I wouldn't mind adding his running back to our stable.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:00AM CST
1st of all... GO BIG RED!!! Now go do what WyHusker said!! lol Good one.. But will be surprised if Haws takes the walk. CU doesn't seem to care about their football team.
But Texas seems to be a whole lot more of a beast to face. I'm almost afraid of a score similar to the T.Tech game though. Don't hate on me for that too much.. just being a realist.
As for the today.. Is their any reason, does anybody know, why Lee played the whole game? Was looking forward to seeing Green get some snaps.

Posted by: The Wombat on November 22, 2009 12:03AM CST
Brian hit the nail on the head about Husker faithful never feeling quite comfortable during this game. But what do you think-- in the offseason will we remember this season's discomfort or a team finding ways to win more games? Just asking...

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 12:06AM CST
I've been leary of the Big 12 champ game all season D-muppet. I would hate for our team to get blindsided and lose all of our hard won confindence. I don't want to sound like a defeatist but unless Zac and Watt's get it together and our D plays lights out again like OU it has the potential to be a heartbreaker.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:08AM CST
I've never had a reason to dislike Snyder, he seems like a gracious man/coach to me and a good role model for players.

He's a very good coach, overachieves with his resources, but is maybe overrated in the public eye.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:10AM CST
wombat,

I will remember that we are a youngish team with a great D that has found ways to win games 'ugly', that is, by having stellar D.(and good special teams).

Which reminds me, we held Banks very much in check tonight!
:)

Posted by: TommyOC on November 22, 2009 12:11AM CST
NU clearly just kept it conservative and didn't want to give the game away. I think they have a little more offense in the tank than they showed. Once they got the lead, they just let the d handle their business.

Good job and concrats to them all.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:12AM CST
You Said it TJ1!! That little guy could HIDE AND RUN!! HARD!!! Would LOVE to have him in the stable of the Runningbacks!!
As for being a defeatist?? Well.. I'm not too thrilled about the Watts play-calling either. Think you hit the nail on the head with the little one learning some new words the K. teachers will frown upon!! lmao! best one I've heard in a while.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:13AM CST
TJ,
I think we will represent pretty well in the CCG. TX may win by 14-20 or so, but it won't be easy for them, and there's a chance we could shock them.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 22, 2009 12:13AM CST
What a game and congratulations seniors. Last time I got to see Bo get the Gatoraid bath was also a happy occasion. You did it, won the north-now on to Colorado and seal the deal.

To all the Husker faithful (LITR bloggers) who cheered on my beloved LSU Tigers. Thank You. I am still so torn up about the last minute of that game. That should have never happened.

GBR Big XII North Champs
Geaux LSU

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 12:13AM CST
I'm afraid Helu got dinged again. One thing I really hate about this staff is all the hush hush on injuries. I didn't even know Blake Lawrence was struggling with concussions and boom, he leaves the team, etc. Anyway, we'd better sit Roy for CU if he's even just tired. It's going to be an issue scoring on UT's D as it is.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 12:15AM CST
Sorry about your Tigers Busie.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:16AM CST
For a team to change offensive philosophy mid season, with all the youth, and inexperience. With all the injuries they had to deal with.

They found a way to win the North

So for godsakes, lay off all you Armchair Offensive Cos. We aren't flashy, we aren't a 500 yard 50 point per team. We win ugly
BUT WE WIN 8-3 North champs
And a offensive philisophy change that has started to find a groove

Couldn't be more pleased with the entire team

Posted by: KillerB on November 22, 2009 12:18AM CST
Congrats Huskers...A well deserved and hard fought North Championship...the WHOLE team deserves it. Its nice for the seniors to go out as champions considering some of the awful coaching (he nor his BFF shall be named) that they had to go through. I could not be more proud of this team. I love that we did it with dominating defense as well.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:19AM CST
TommyOC... I've felt that way this whole season!! That they've been holding back on offense... Last week seemed pretty good, but back to the rut this week?

Posted by: rankrider21 on November 22, 2009 12:20AM CST
I say wtg Big Red a win is a win and we should enjoy it that I agree.

But does it have to be so dam nerve racking!!! I just wish we could put somebody away in a stlyish fashion and not make it so hard.

I agree we should have put green in and then let Lee take over if something went wrong but with the initial play calling it looked like it would have been more suited to CG strengths then Lee.

I see Lee take baby steps on correcting things like not pitching and just taking a couple yard lost instead of several yards lost. But I just would have like to see CG take over and let's go. But the coaches know best and I trust the coaches.

I still say wtg huskers and take care CU first and foremost please. We'll think about Texas later.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:20AM CST
The program is making steps in the right direction. Not Strides, but positive steps.

The Seniors have had a tough 4 years, so for them to go out like this is spectacular. I hope none of you ever forget just how bad we were 2 years ago. It was horrid, but in 2 short years, we are North Champs. That right there is where my expectations end this year. Everything after this is just a cherry on top

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 12:21AM CST
bruno, his scheduling, JUCO teams, lack of discipline for some pretty major off-field incidents almost annually made him clearly a win-at-all-cost coach who acted holier than though in many situations. He 'did what he had to do' to build a winner at KSU, but he sold his soul many times to do it.

Posted by: KillerB on November 22, 2009 12:21AM CST
I would rather win UGLY on Defense than "Pretty" on offense any day.....Give me a dominating defense and i am a happy fan.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:22AM CST
yea,

likewise thrilled for the seniors who toughed it out through the dark year.

the order is nearly restored, beat the puffs!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:24AM CST
steph,
well, his scheduling of xtreme cupcakes came back to bite him in the butt this year.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:24AM CST
We aren't a stylish, 49 point favorite team. So I wish people would stop expecting it. We find ways to win, and through adversity this year, have done just that. There's no quit in these guys no matter what. Is it nerve racking? Hell yes... Is it going to be for awhile?
Yes
are they on the winning track absolutely!!

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:25AM CST
Hey busie! sorry bout the Tigers.. The Mrs. is a fan, So I watched. Lot of "coulda, shoulda, woulda" in that last minute! The ball got dropped... Tough loss for LSU.

Posted by: KillerB on November 22, 2009 12:25AM CST
my thoughts exactly Blackshirt

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:26AM CST
The Defense will reload in 2010
The Offense will mature, and come into their own.

And the Big Red is going to continue to out recruit the rest of the North. We need to win the North consistantly from now on. We'll worry about winning it all later

One step before the other

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:27AM CST
I don't think our critique here tonight is out of line, no one is expecting the '95 Husker O. The offense just should be better, is all, and I think all coaches and players would agree with that.

but yea, I don't mind winning ugly so much, just takes some getting used to.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:28AM CST
Come on people, put down the Kool-aid, and get on board with some realistic expectations.

Atleast we aren't the 2007 Husker edition
(Or the Jayhawks for that matter)
(or the Buffs)
(or any other team in the North)

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 12:30AM CST
You can't get conservative when one play can change the game. Not against a KSU team who's whole gameplan is a hoping for a couple big plays from a couple of game breakers. Seems like we could've thrown pretty safely to the TE or IB all day. Shame Roy dropped that one, but that play could've been money for 5-10 yards every time. Our WRs aren't running very good routes, so I think we need to spread it around. Also, why do we keep running the shovel to McNeil? Anyone else think that's weird? Call me crazy, but thinking it might work a little better using a guy with some wheels (Mendoza? Guillien?) as opposed to a TE. We're running the option weird too.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:30AM CST
ESPN was giving Bigman SUH some goodlove

They talked him up like crazy
Way to go ESPN. Give the best college player in the land alil' push

Dumptruck full of awards for that man

Posted by: KillerB on November 22, 2009 12:31AM CST
We had a team in 2007...I wasn't aware. How did we do? I am guessing not very well since I seem to have COMPLETLY ERASED IT FROM MEMORY.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 12:31AM CST
The offense has come along ways. No more stupid pentalities by the O line taking us out of scoring. Zak is only a sophomore. The coaches have figured out away to move the ball without running a risk of Zak losing the game. Zak has improved alot. He still throws the ball up there and locks onto his receivers

We have come along ways since the Iowa St. game.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:31AM CST
It's quite possible that ISU will be the up and coming threat to our throne in the North, over sCUM and KU. They've got a quality coach now.

Mizzou will be a challenger as well, but CU and KU are gonna be down for awhile I suspect.

KSU? Maybe in a couple of years.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 22, 2009 12:32AM CST
DerangedMuppet glad to see you on here again. Thx everybody for the condolences.

I've been on LITR since Bo was "abducted" from Baton Rouge. It's been a fun ride to watch the bird stir from the ashes of defeat to where we came tonight. I started out as a La. 2nd Line fan and now, Big Red to the core. Love my Huskers. Take it to the house next week.
Go Big Red
Night All

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:33AM CST
Point taken blackshirt! (laying down my lazyboy headphones.) It's been a wild ride for a long time now.. The Pretty Pass Offence was pretty Offensive! Especially when we had NO D, I think was even MORE Offensive! BLACKSHIRTS ARE BACK!! Time to work on that offence again!! GO HUSKERS!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:33AM CST
zac's a junior, but yea, he's a rookie starter. there has been some improvement in offense as far as the mistakes, yes.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:34AM CST
BruNo The O WILL get better. It isn't gonna happen overnight

Not with all that has happened this season

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:35AM CST
thanks busie ;) and 'gumBO' 2 U!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:37AM CST
beado,
agree, i have no doubt. BO is a winner and the S'kers will become an overall monster again is my guess.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:37AM CST
I think most people are gonna be surprised by the redshirts freshmen we are gonna see next year. Fantastic talent. You're also going to see 11 guys executing. Thats something that has hurt this year.

But the mentality is there, the drive is there, and the coaching staff is there. It's coming baby!!!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:39AM CST
nish,
really, the ISU game was one of our better O performances this year, less the TOs, of course, lol.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:39AM CST
Lets all just enjoy this ragtag bunch of hooligans that stuck it to the north. It's ours, and no one can take it away. Like I said, everything that comes now is just a cherry on top of a pretty good year.

Not a great year, but it's coming along.
Thanks again BO

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:40AM CST
The ISU game was a fluke, and the clones know it

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 12:42AM CST
LOL! Night Busie!! And I kinda jumped on the LSU Bandwagon as soon as Bo went down there. Was fun to josh everybody about loaning them our coach!! Funny hearing people ask who our head coach is and then saying "Why does that name sound familiar?"

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 12:43AM CST
I'm putting on my analytical avatar....we need to ditch the option plays. 4-5 options of little gain are not worth it to set up 1 play action off the option. We can play action other ways. Didn't see the fullback often enough tonight. Was glad we threw to him when he was in. Did we run any screens? The OU game last year aside, we did it effectively with Swift and others. We ought to be able to make that work again.

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 12:43AM CST
There's simply no gel on O. It's not one thing or one person. There are personnel issues, talent issues, consistency issues, coaching issues, etc. I think the talent we have waiting in the wings on the OL is pretty deep, we've got our QB for 3 years, we're loaded at RB. We could use a few WRs and a big FB if we're going to run power-I, but in general I think it will work itself out. We need some more player-leaders to step up, more gel on the oline and improved WR play, especially on downfield blocking. Frankly, they should get TO more involved. He's one of, if not the, best offensive minds ever in college football. I'll bet it's driving him nuts inside too. Either way, it'll get better.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:44AM CST
well, it could turn out to be a great year, at least we have the opportunity as such. BO is all about the 'now', so I'm sure he's going to give it his all to try and seize the opportunities we have right now.

may the starts align accordingly ;).

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 12:44AM CST
BruNO,
We take away the 8 turnovers and we win.
lol
Hey the cyclones came to win and they did.
Only think that matters is the score at the end of the game.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:46AM CST
Fluke Nish

Everyone comes to win
why else would you play the game

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:47AM CST
nish,
yea, I preach scoreboard, but that is one game where it was clear that we beat ourselves. the good news is that given a similar scenario in the future, our coaches will know when to kick the necessary FG in the red zone to seal the game, lol.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 12:48AM CST
Line up Isu again, and we slaughter them

that is the nerdiest monkee I have ever seen in my life, is that your alter ego?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 12:49AM CST
I was actually impressed with Iowa St effort. I give them credit. They had a freshmam play QB.

By the way my Avatar is a picture of me after the K st win after the GF feed me wings, meatballs, garlic fries and dessert.
Im such a happy fat little mole

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:50AM CST
nish,
not sure your ava is tailgate approved...

Posted by: rankrider21 on November 22, 2009 12:51AM CST
Maybe stylish is not the right word to use, however I think most fans that watch us play will agree that we don't have a killer instinct on offense. 11 games into the season and we have yet to play with any rhythm.

I agree a win is a win and yes this is about where I expected us to be. However that being stated the ISU and the VT games were very winnable although strange things happen just ask KU.

If you Beado got upset over my comments I'm truly sorry for that however, I just don't have a handle on why the team plays like it does. It seem like we get going and then all of the sudden quit moving the ball instead of sustaining a couple of first downs to give the defense a rest. And in my own opinion we have been doing this all year long. Blame it on the play calling, blame the players, blame the other team, I just don't understand the situation. And I find it very nerve racking that's all.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 12:51AM CST
Alter ego? Its the best picture of me that anyone has taken....can't remember where I found it. Maybe its the grandson of Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:53AM CST
silicon,
yea, what u said ^^. and no, I don't think I've seen a screen from our O this year.

boggles the mind.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 12:53AM CST
You missed BruNo,
While I was watching the game the GF brings in a plate of chips and salsa
the meat balls with tooth picks in them,
Then two flavors of wings and garlic fries
Then dessert apple something with cool whip
I so know I'm going shopping tomorrow or it lifetime Sunday.

I did take here to see Twilight 2 last night and I'm dumer for watching the movie.

Not upset at all
But thanks for the concern

I've heard all the talk this season
even participated in it.

It does no good. So I am just gonna be happy for them. They lose, and I fly into a blind rage, and call for burned redshirts, and coaching changes.

But hey Kstate just turned in their gear for the year, so I am happy

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 12:55AM CST

Bruno....I've seen screens this year, but few were effective. Obviously Helu dropped a dump...early in the year they were doing screens where Lee would throw a jump pass to a back just off tackle..not sure if that was by design or he was avoiding a sack and getting it over the Dlineman...seems most of those were thrown into the ground. We did a few WR screens early and a few worked....you would think Burkhead and Helu would be money on screens that give them a little free space. Pork Chop broke CU's spine as a senior with those.

Sexy rexy has better hands than helu. Glad he's back. Catch them 2 yarders lil fella, and run.

I think GBR has to do like what seems like a growing trend amongst the 'big boys' these days, like TX and FL and schedule a late season nonconference cupcake.

seems like a good and somewhat devious strategy to break up an otherwise grueling season.

oh, my bad, we had our cupcake(albeit inconference) tonight, woohoo!

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:00AM CST
Silicon funny you said that

I think Rex reminds me alot of Pork Chop
Same build, and all. He's gonna have a fantastic future here

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:00AM CST
Hey Rank.. Let me just say for the most part I agree, Unfortunately I tend to lay the blame on the O-line and the play calling. I think/HOPE the O-line is still gelling. JMO.. but is still my biggest gripe.. Play calling... well.. I took my lazy-boy coach's headphones off earlier, so I'll let you fill in the blanks!! hehe

Bruno..."Intellectual football fan loves bananas but will go ape for you. Only serious primates should respond. Bonus if you're from my Planet. Cornelius was my grandfather".

How bout Boomer Sooner getting mauled tonight

Manalive didn't see that coming

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:02AM CST
silicon, well, our TE shovel pass has yielded a whopping 3-4 yds to date.... but yea, I been thinking we could use screens to great effect, like what is standard practice in most offensive schemification.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:04AM CST
silicon,

is that your 'about myself' info, in your dating profile?

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 1:05AM CST
This game proved we're not going to get much better on O this year. Yeah, the penalties have faded, but motion and holding penalties have a lot to do with who's lined up in front of you. Can't say a 267 yd total O performance is moving in the right direction. We're inconsistent at best. Fortunately with the D, we only need to execute on a few drives and we have a big play threat in Helu. Again, we only had 267 and probably should've scored at least 24 if not 31. If we can be good on just a few drives and avoid turnovers and penalties we'll have a chance in every game, including UT, but UT will be a tall order because they're just so fundamentally sound.

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:06AM CST
Did watts call that steller pass to the side line behind the LOS that always gets crushed?? since I can't watch the rest of the game till 2:30 on the rerun I'm curiuos.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:07AM CST
Hey TJ
we won

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:08AM CST
Meetchicken turned in their gear too

Colorado should, there is nothing there

Oh, the golden domers should turn in their gear as well

I know, I'm just wondering, haven't seen the whole thing yet. I'm hoping for a ray of sunshine that he tore that page out.

Let me state here tonight I live in Texas and I REALLY want us to win. I would really like to see us come together and beat Texas. I just hope we can find some geatine by then.

And if we don't that they walk away sayin that they wer're in a dogfight with us and we gain some recruits from that game

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:11AM CST
yes it was a 2nd consecutive perfect weekend of CFB: Domer, Puffs, Meechicken, and KSU all lost...and GBR won!

did USC play today? did they lose?

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:12AM CST
I am getting tired of the in game distractions.

Everytime I think i've dissected the schematics of the opposing teams offensive strategy.

They put Erin Andrews on the TV, and I stop thinking straight

It throws off my execution

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:12AM CST
LOL TJ! Yeah.. I love that play!! seems like we get crushed on that play EVERY Time we try it. Same with running parrallel to the L.O.S.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:13AM CST
Can't remember Pork Chop's weight...he seemed slightly more firepluggish.....just discovered today that he had been playing for the California Redwoods...the UFL team in the Bay area and had a few 100+ yard games.

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 1:13AM CST
A lot better than being an ND fan. Remember the days of having an ex-Pro coach, a good O, a lousy D and a bunch of excuses that insult your intelligence? Anyone see Holtz saying he's hoping Charlie will be back next year and that they're not far off from winning an NC? Man what was Miles thinking with the clock in the LSU game? Has anyone ever heard Bo gush about Miles being a great coach?

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:14AM CST
beado,
erin is way hot, but CBS has this new chic, Laura Shehadi that is like 'wowser', along with Tracy Wolfson who I'm madly in love with anyway.

CBS has brunettes, go fig..

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:14AM CST
I heard a rumor that Rock Chalk wants to get Turner Gill coaching for 'em

Atleast that's what some boosters for KU are talking about

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:17AM CST
BruNo it's just amazing

These females are throwing me off my game.

I even lose my game face. Thats frustrating cuz it takes me all week to prepare it.

EA comes on, and it's gone in1.2 seconds

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:18AM CST
Ditto on the perfect weekend Burno. I had an interstesting question posed to me during the bs birthday party I had to attend without game on tv. If Weiss is gone, dose the Domers make Stoop an offer he can't refuse??

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:18AM CST
I think Mangino is the subject of a premeditated witch hunt ala their AD. He wants the big guy fired cuz of the bad last 2 seasons and has to create a firestorm of bad PR cuz the big guy doesnt have a buyout clause in his contract.

yes, it's a conspiracy.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:18AM CST
I guess it's only fair

My wife has silly vampire movies

I have Erin Andrews

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:20AM CST
BruNo Fatboy caused his own bad PR

50 former ,players doesn't sound like a witch hunt

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:21AM CST
TJ,
Domers are going after Meyer, Kelly, and stoops, prolly in that order. They have the best chance at landing Kelly though, IMO, and that would be, unfortunately for Domers haters the worldwide, a great catch for them.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:21AM CST
Take it easy on the Fat folks they need love too.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:21AM CST
Bruno....total agreement on Tracy Wolfson. I googled Laura Shehadi and saw that she used to be in Minot ND....near where I grew up. (Nish, did you ever sit in a missle silo near Minot?)

Not sure the name of the one that NBC had doing Notre Dame...she's top shelf as well

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:22AM CST
TG needs to come Co-Head Coach for US!! I for one would LOVE it! Would LOVE to see what he could do with some Decent players on O!

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:22AM CST
I'm disappointed in the Big Man, if that crap is true. I always liked him if for no other reason that the butt chewing he gave that guy on the kick return for a TD that was on youtube from last year.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:23AM CST
NIsh, no worries if you move like that.

Fat jigglin' like that deserves lovin'

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:24AM CST
I doubt Mangino has abused players even 50% of what Bobby Knight used to do.

Anyway, I also think there is a real faction of Meechicken backers that wanna make a run at Harbaugh(who also could end up @ ND). But the MI AD seems set on Rich Rod, who will prolly have most the pieces in place within 1-2 years from now.

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:26AM CST
Yeah Wolfson is hot

Not smokin, but hot

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:26AM CST
I sometimes think I feel sorry for the domers, they have had a mediocre streek longer than ours, then I remember I really don't like them and all their sycophants in the media and ESPN. If they would've squeaked out a winner today someone would have tried ranking them again.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:27AM CST
to think that TG and BO could or would 'share' the HC spot is a rather' deranged' proposal.

ha ha, c what I did there? ;)

Posted by: StephenSt on November 22, 2009 1:27AM CST
Mangino got lost driving around Kansas City one day and asked someone if they could tell him how he could get to 465; and the person responded by saying maybe he could try eating salads for lunch and dinner.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:27AM CST
Bruno...Alex Flanagan...good Irish girl no doubt. Makes coaches head for a cold shower, no doubt.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:27AM CST
WOW! That's a JIG?!? I thought it was an epileptic cesure or something

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:28AM CST
I dont see anything wrong with the way Mangion chewed that kid out. You don't know if that returned just gave them the lead in a close game.

I had a football coach that broke a clip board over my head when I missed a tackle near the side lines and end up taking him out. lol
He was in my face and said you closed your eyes didn't you. I said no, bam, goes the clip board, see you did close your eyes.

Years later he applogized for it.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:28AM CST
beado,

google Laura Shehadi sometime, shes a looker, totally my type of woman...

Posted by: BlackshirtBeado on November 22, 2009 1:29AM CST
Shehadi is average at best

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:31AM CST
silicon,
yea, Alex is ok, maybe to 'square' for my tastes.

these hot babe on field commentators DO get some CAPTIVE looks from their coach interviewees @ the halves fo' sho'...like, 'uh what was the question again?..."(gaze gaze).

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:32AM CST
I still think Nish's avatar is Susan Boyle on a treadmill or something.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:32AM CST
no, shehadi, shewanme, and iwanher, thats what I'm talkin' about!

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:33AM CST
Nish, I thought the chewing was deserved and an awesome display. I was giving him props. It the alleged personal attackes in front of others that has me rethinking. I hope its much to do about nothing.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:34AM CST
Ha bruNo!! Hey, I thought it was a great idea!! Tell me Husker Nation wouldn't come unglued with anticipation!

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:35AM CST
I'm scared to ask what is too square.....I noticed in the best Holy Grail way that she has huge tracts of land.

The best has to have been Namath asking Suzy Kolber for a kiss.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:35AM CST
Gotcha Tj
I get upset the way Bo talks to the media after a loss.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:38AM CST
thing is, lets say that Mangino has verbally abused some players, and maybe shoved some here and there, but to me, that deserves some review and basically a slap on the wrist.

the fact that it has been raised to the level of publicity it has during a very bad football season for them, makes me feel like it is a witch hunt. premeditated. they want him gone and public defamation is about the only way they can get rid of him.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:40AM CST
deranged,

uh, your nick is apropo, yer dreamin' buddy...;)

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:40AM CST
If Mangino actually told a kid that he should work harder or he'll get shot like his brother back in the hood....or told another "do you want to be a lawyer or a drunk like your dad?" in front of the team...well he needs a bit of an adjustment.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:42AM CST
sil,
agree, but to me that is something they communicate to the coach as a necessary change of approach, that is, if they are happy with him and want to keep him, which they are not, hence the witch hunt.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:42AM CST
BruNo
I'm with you, there is no doubt in my mind the AD is out to get Mangino.

Cowherd stated this would be a non issue if Mangino was normal size.
The man has to over come mountains besides coaching for KU.

Posted by: TJ1 on November 22, 2009 1:43AM CST
It is a little painful Nish, but at least its better than "I coached a perfect game" or the elmer fudd routine. I like the fire, it just needs toned down a little. I know I couldn't get kicked in the teeth on national tv and have some reporter ask something dumb and not say something worse. I'm sure something worse was going through his mind and what we got was the edited version:)

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:43AM CST
Did Bo say anything interesting at his post game presser?

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:44AM CST
I noticed Saban having more than just a friendly look toward Tracy Wolfson a few times last year...like, 'what ya doing after the game' type thing.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:45AM CST
LOL!! Thanx for Noticin bruNo!! On to Other things.. I for one would LOVE to see ol Tubby back next year for the Damers!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:47AM CST
I have absolutely no prob with the way BO handles himself on the sideline and at pressers.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:47AM CST
Yeah....that was a former player who said that in response to an interview request, but obviously that request would not have come without KU starting the whole mess

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:48AM CST
Bo said he was happy with his team
He always thank his family says his wife has to put up with alot
that they was going shopping tomorrow, going to buy a case of gum.

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:51AM CST
Bazooka? I liked to see him mix in some bubbles on the sideline to add to his overall schwag!

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:51AM CST
LMAO Nish! Yeah.. Almost reminds me of the Ozfather on the sidelines tearing that gum up!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:52AM CST
As I stated earlier wouldn't it make sense if he chewed BIG RED GUM?

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 1:54AM CST
LIke to see him pop open a new piece of gum on camera and be reading the bazooka comic

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 1:54AM CST
HA!! I can see the commercial Now!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:55AM CST
yea, like BO needs more scratch endorsing Big Red gum. but it does make alot of sense, agree.

next it will be a chain franchise in 'BO's Big Boy' lining our pristine motorways across this great land!

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:56AM CST
sil,
lol, like he says to Carl,'dude, look what mort is doing in this one...!"

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 1:57AM CST
Yeah,
We will all be chewing BIG RED GUM!
I don't know why I feel a need to shout that,
but everytime I type BIG RED, my hands go to the cap lock button.
lol

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 1:59AM CST
I think we all agree then, you are not a true fan if you chew any other gum than Big Red gum...and there WILL be surveillence as such..

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 2:01AM CST
Holy Cow,
I better get rid of my juicy fruit.

Posted by: DerangedMuppet on November 22, 2009 2:02AM CST
Thats funny... When I was young I always thought that's where the Big Red gum came from

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 2:06AM CST
Starting at QB for Nebraska...Bazooka Joe

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 22, 2009 2:07AM CST
hm,
I guess Mangino would chew Hubba bubba?

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 2:08AM CST
sil,
I hear he's gotta a real 'cannon' for an arm...

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 2:09AM CST
isnt juicy fruit the 'metrosexuals' gum of choice?

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 22, 2009 2:10AM CST
Bruno...I hear he starts that way but goes soft as the game goes on....you sort of lose your taste for him

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 2:11AM CST
sil,
yea, thats what 'she' said...

Posted by: bruNo on November 22, 2009 2:14AM CST
well, guess everybody has migrated to the final thoughts thread.

think I'll pass on that for now.

latrz all ye fans of the Big 12 North Champs!

;)

Posted by: Uncle Fester on November 22, 2009 3:27AM CST
A win is a win, and I'll take this one, especially when it comes with the Big 12 North championship. KSU could just as easily have won, if a couple of plays had turned out differently. And if a couple of other plays had turned out differently, NU would have won by a bigger score.

NU is not yet world-beating capacity, but, boy, do I like it better than two years ago at this time. Makes me optimistic about what it will be like two years from now.
