Penalties, zone read, Locker

So about those penalties .....
Everyone knows by now the Huskers had 10 of them for 123 yards on Saturday. Reason for concern or some positive aggressive play that just happened to overstep the line in the eyes of Saturday's set of officials? On Monday during the Big 12 coaches' teleconference, Texas head coach Mack Brown said he think the best teams in the country are often penalized more because of the aggressive nature that comes with being a good football team.Husker head coach Bo Pelini was asked about the balancing act of trying to coach your players to be aggressive without quite crossing the line. "Some of our penalties the other day, there were some bad decisions in there, some unnecessary penalties, but a lot of times it was guys trying to be aggressive and trying to make the extra block and that's a positive," Pelini said. "You have to know when to and when not to. It comes down to decision-making. And like Coach Brown said, you kind of have to coach right up (to the line) ... and hopefully as time goes on they make better decisions." Pelini was told that one Washington coach remarked that Nebraska's offense, particularly the zone read, resembles what the Huskies have seen from Oregon. "We want to be real multiple in what we do and create as many problems as we can for the defense," Pelini said. "It wasn't like we sat there and looked at Oregon and said we want to be Oregon. There are some aspects of it where it probably does look like Oregon, but I wouldn't say we're running Oregon's offense either. I think there are probably some things that are similar, but there are probably a lot of differences too." As for some early week thoughts about taking on Washington quarterback Jake Locker? "You got to rush with lane discipline, but at the same time you have to get pressure on him," Pelini said. "It creates some challenges for you defensively, but I think you just play your system and do your things and are disciplined in how you attack him. You got to give him the necessary respect. I've been there before. He's a really good player. We have a lot of respect for him."
