Pelini: Jackson, Davie status 'pending'

Talked to Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini on Wednesday about a couple matters, including a few nuts and bolts issues: -- Nebraska senior defensive tackle Jared Crick (knee) and junior defensive end Cameron Meredith (shoulder) are cleared for the June 6 start of summer conditioning, Pelini said. Meredith missed all of spring practice, and Crick missed most of it. Junior cornerback Jase Dean, a walk-on from Bridgeport, is the only player who won't be participating in the off-season program because of injury, the coach said. -- Two incoming freshmen -- cornerback Charles Jackson and wide receiver/athlete Daniel Davie -- have some academic issues "pending" before they can officially join the team. Jackson, in an interview Wednesday on Unsportsmanlike Conduct (1620 AM), expressed confidence that he'll clear the necessary academic hurdles and plans to enroll for NU's second summer session in July. Meanwhile, Davie also is working on summer course work to get eligible. --Pelini said running back Braylon Heard, a 2010 signee who was academically ineligible, is cleared and will be part of the summer-conditioning program. --Quarterback Taylor Martinez, a 12-game starter last year, has been working out on his own in his homestate California. "That's not unusual," Pelini said. "Guys do that all the time this time of year."
