Party on: It's gameday
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 7, 2009 at 10:53AM CST
If you're not in Lincoln today, I'm sorry. The weather is as good as she goes at this time of year in this part of the world.

Yes, the teams are 5-3, but how can you not get fired up when Husker and Sooner helmets are about to collide.

Am I right? Or am I right? Just hope the Huskers don't wear all red.

Anyway, here's a thread for you to talk about the college football day as you await NU-OU. I know Husker fans will have considerable interest in that Kansas-Kansas State game which kicks off in a matter of minutes.

Enjoy your afternoon and blog away.

I know the "bootlegger's boy" will be watching.

And BC is the first one up and at em.

So trash what do you think Corn by 10

Posted by: Trashman on November 7, 2009 11:08AM CST
Interesting Sipple picked an upset for NU today. That has to be straight gut instinct because there's very little logic stat-wise to suggest we should be in this game. Must be all the hope in the inexperienced O-line for them vs our D-line. The spread begs you to take OU.....

I'll go with Sip, NU 20 OU 16.
*sidenote---we will have to get a defensive score (or at least put us inside the 5) to get to 20. Otherwise we lose in my book.

HelU! Hell Yea! Need Roy to be healthy and running hard.

UNfortunately, cleaning out the garage comes first, partying second...albeit a CLOSE second...kinda like the wagondrivers, hopefully.

Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through

But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise -
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I aint gonna lose -

DONU defense and special teams takes 14, offense only has to score 12. DONU defense holds Sooners to 16, their defense gets lucky and takes 7.

26 to 23 Huskerville is happy!!

I don't think so...they have a good motor and it's OU!

Posted by: EdwardPe on November 7, 2009 12:01PM CST
hi guys , i won't get the game here in nittany lion country tonite. hope husker offense can do something tonite I know the blackshirts will bring it. A few months ago someone had a site where you can watch games on internet for free, kind of illegal but good for me if somebody can post that site it would be awesome. I had it bookmarked but my computer crashed and all info gone, thanks go big red!

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on November 7, 2009 12:09PM CST
See I kinda thought about our defense getting worn out from being on the field a lot if our current offense struggles persist but OU's offense, if they do their no huddle stuff, will make it fast. At least if they play like they did in the first half of the K-State game, they have all the opportunity in the world to produce. Granted I don't think comparing the K-State D to our's is no comparison. But obviously we need to have our offense produce something this game to help keep the defense off the field. I found a ticket just yesterday so I'm hoping we can pull off the upset. Come on Big Red.

Posted by: JTHF on November 7, 2009 12:12PM CST
EdwardPe, was that on Justintv? I seem to remember that but haven't ever watched from that site.

Posted by: Boonies on November 7, 2009 12:42PM CST
Not an OU/NU question, but how come UT is playing Central Florida in the middle of conference season?

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 12:44PM CST
Anyone watching the KU-KSU game?

I think our defense is gunna tear both of these offenses up...

KSU runs the option like every play... and KU runs that little spread attack that they've been doinig lately, but Reesing doesn't look as good as he did last year.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 7, 2009 12:44PM CST
And Texas can't even blame it on a postponement, i.e. hurricane

Yeah the KSU vs KU game is terrible. We better destroy both these teams.

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 12:51PM CST
Huskersincebirth2,

What channel is the game on? I could not find it on directV.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 12:52PM CST
Well if KSU wins today... we're gunna need to win today...

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 12:53PM CST
Busiekcreek,

I am guessing that since I have picked Bama that coming over and cleaning at my place it out?

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 12:53PM CST
KSU-KU is on Versus

UT-UCF is on Foxsports South West

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 12:54PM CST
That figures. Directv does not carry versus.

Oh well, I just wanted to watch our upcoming opponents. I'll see them soon enough I suppose.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 7, 2009 12:56PM CST
Bleeding Red, I get like this every year for this game.

You rascal, I am not about to clean 'no Gump fan's house.

I think if somebody came up behind me now and yelled boo, I'd probably land in Kansas.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 12:58PM CST
BleedingRed:

It's not a very exciting game. KU has caught the turnover bug. Reesing has 1 INT and 2 Fumbles so far.

It looks like if you put pressure on Reesing he gets rattled. I think he's gunna have a hard time vs Nebraska's DL.

KSU just looks terrible. I don't know how they are leading the North right now.

Boise State vs Big Red in 2011? Broncos begging for competition! Both share the same open date...Sept. 3. Why not?

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 1:00PM CST
Busiekcreek,

You know that I don't mean any offense by my pick. Just seems to me that in a really big game that Bama's defense will show up and create problems for LSU's offense.

Now, knowing that Bo is no longer there, I suspect that your defense has 1 or 2 holes in it.

I think it will be an absolute nail biter and Bama will somehow find a way to get it done.

I do hope that I am wrong though.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 1:02PM CST
Im hoping that UCF can beat Texas right now

3rd Qrt. Texas up 14-3

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on November 7, 2009 1:02PM CST
Ha ha I don't know if anyone else is still watching the halftime report on Versus but the guy just said "you can't throw out the baby with the bath water" about Todd Reesing and his turnovers. I don't know what kind of saying that is but it seems hilarious to me. That's why there aren't big name games on Versus.

Posted by: Boonies on November 7, 2009 1:04PM CST
LOL, Busie! Need some Valium? I've been cleaning out closets...that's always a good way to work off some excess energy. You've probably done yours already though, so don't know what else need whippin' into shape?

Super...that saying is as old as the hills...I take it you're not?

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 1:07PM CST
SuperHusker17,

Essentially he is saying that although Todd is having problems and needs to clean his game up that it does not do any good to take him out. Instead, focus on getting rid of whatever is causing his issues.

In this case however it is clearly that he does not like to get hit, pressured or benched.

I hope he starts against us.

Is that a power puff girl?

Nail biter (what's that) mine were gnawed to the bone by Wednesday.

You know Oklahoma and Alabama are not some kind of gods. They can be taken out. The Little Engine That Could has got a full head of steam.

Let's not be greedy and ask that 1 of the 2 teams win.

Now, knowing what I know about your game, I am excited to take that deal.

I am bad hugh?

Boonies:

They have Mizzou and Nebraska left, and that's it.

They host Mizzou and come to Lincoln. If they win today and Nebraska beats Kansas next week. They'll come out swinging cuz that game will be for the North.

We just need ISU to lose today vs OSU and Nebraska controls their own destiny all the way to the Big 12 Championship.

Basically we just can't lose any more Nort games.

Posted by: Boonies on November 7, 2009 2:10PM CST
OK...gotcha. Well, there's no excuse for losing any of em, so if they do lose, I guess they don't deserve the be there anyway.

Lordy mercy...I was just reading snippet about the OU game last year. I knew it was bad, but I guess I just blocked out that is was 62-28! I mean it's HARD to score 62 even if you score on every possession (of course, they scored a couple of times on OUR possessions) Ah, well...it's a new day.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 2:21PM CST
Well good things are happening.

Mizzou is beating Baylor which is good if KSU beats KU. B/c then Mizzou will still have a chance at the North.

That means next week when KSU-Mizzou play they will both be playing for the North. And we could use a Mizzou win there.

Then we could def. afford to lose today.

Not saying that we will.

Posted by: Corky on November 7, 2009 2:22PM CST
Anybody else read the Boise St. article on yahoo.com. Boise St. cant get anybody to play them in 2011. They even call out Nebraska because we have an open slot. I say we petition A.D. Osborne to get that game scheduled. Brian C or Sipple lead the charge.

Posted by: Mr HH on November 7, 2009 2:29PM CST
Not sure Boise wants to come to Lincoln. They might not like the outcome. But I am all for it! Lets see what I can do, lol!

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 2:29PM CST
Corky - I posted the link and made a similar comment about playing Boise State. However, not a single response from any blogger on here. Maybe they are all brain dead...

Posted by: Islander/Husker on November 7, 2009 2:32PM CST
Very competitive Big 12 this year in both divisions. North is shaping up to be real tough. Kansas State is rearing it's head for sure.,

I will want LSU toi take it to Alabama. Saban is a guy I have issues with. Alabama is good I admit. But hoping for a Tiger victory. Lets say 21-17 LSU

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 2:32PM CST
I would like to play Bosie St., except one problem. I think our schedule is already filled for 2011.

We would have to drop a game I think. And when you do that you have to pay the school you dropped alot of money.

Posted by: Corky on November 7, 2009 2:35PM CST
Mr. HH, Boise St. wants to play a big name BCS school at that BCS schools stadium. They are not wanting a home and away series.

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 2:40PM CST
The schedule for 2001 is not full. Room for one more game on Sept. 3 to make a total of 4 out of conference games. What I think is maybe Big Red would rather stay with Sun Belt teams they know they can beat as a tune up to the Big 12 schedule???

Posted by: rluben on November 7, 2009 2:42PM CST
Just read that Corky.

lol Calling us out, they best hope they don't get their wish.

The last thing they want to do is play Nebraska in 2011...if they plan on their starters making it to conference play that is.

They are dang lucky they didn't play Oregon later in the season.

Wouldn't have even been close.

Bo and Tom, they are calling you out , they say you are chicken to play , either that or you are holding them down on purpose.

I say make them humble in 2011, talking that smack, they even think they are more famous than Nebraska lol.

They beat OK when OK would have rather been eating holiday leftovers instead of playing a nobody and got lazy....and then BSU gets all cocky.

Silly little blue turf smurfs.

They are a game short for 2011/12 season but they are already playing Washington, Fresno Staate and Wyoming.....I'd be suprised if they would want another high calibur team especially the first game of the season.....

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 2:46PM CST
You'd be surprised is they would want another high caliber team especially the first game of the season? Sounds like Goliath fearing David. I think it would be a great opportunity, but perhaps some fans fear the opportunity...lol...

Posted by: Low Country Husker on November 7, 2009 2:46PM CST
at this point in the season Every team is the team to beat......

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 2:48PM CST
Low Country Husker:

That's what Im saying by the schedule being "filled" already.

I don't think we'll want to add another name opponent... but who knows. Mayb they will and we can shut BSU up.

Everyone knows that if they played in the Big 12 or SEC they would not be nearly as good as they look.

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 2:49PM CST
Wyoming, Fresno State & Washington are all middle of the road teams...good, but not nearly great. Boise would be the challenge...unless you are thinking those first three would be tough, which does not say much about what you think about your own team.

Rluben, its time for our Huskers to man up. If we want the nation to consider us a legitimate powerhouse again, we need to play some high caliber opponents.

Agreed I look for a tough battle decided at the end should be a great game for the fans to watch. Come to think of it the rest of the season should be great football, not because the rest of the opponents are so good but because the Huskers always get's their best effort when they play them.....

Posted by: black&bluehusker on November 7, 2009 2:56PM CST
Maybe playing Boise St would give us a chance to beat a ranked opponent. Something for us to hang our hats on. That way we could say we are back.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on November 7, 2009 2:56PM CST

I sort of recall T.O. saying something about wanting to upgrade the schedule in the future and Bo saying yeah we want to play the best, we'll play anyone or something along those lines.

Hope that wasn't just lip service talk, this should already be a done deal, especially with the smack talk.

Are you watching the LSU/Gump game? Kind of boring so far. Appears it's playing into Busie's hands.....at least I sure hope so

Posted by: rluben on November 7, 2009 3:01PM CST
I'm pretty sure Tom was griping about if we wanted out of certain games we'd have to buy them outblah blah blah and that another issue was teams wanted a home and away and we need the home game revenues.

Well Boise St wants none of that, they just want a decent BCS opponent to upgrade their schedule, and are willing to travel to make it happen with no home n home requirement.

Don't be wusses Bo n Tom...man up.

Get it done before someone else takes them up on it.

Low, I am watching that game, not much happening until that last play by LSU

rluben:

One thing that people don't realize is that this years and next years schedules weren't made by TO and BO. They were made by Callahan and SP.

If you look further into the future you'll see some tough opponents.

2013 looks extremely tough:
Wyoming
@ Southern Miss
UCLA
@ Mizzou
Texas Tech
ISU
@ Baylor
Oklahoma
@ KU
Kansas
@ sCUm

You'll also see the likes of Miami and Tennessee in a few years. We've got some good competition coming to Lincoln over the next 5-10 years.

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 3:05PM CST
"Maybe playing Boise St would give us a chance to beat a ranked opponent." Really? Doesn't sound like confidence in the home team. And that is why they may not be scheduled...fear... Better to play Middle Tennessee or Western Kentucky or Ball State. Maybe Solich's Ohio Bobcats or Gill's Buffalo Bulls. But that might scare some too...

But when you buy out that contract it costs alot.... and you people forget, we are still paying Bill Callahan for his tremendous job here (sarcasm)

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 3:21PM CST
LCH...no on all counts. I just see an opportunity, but no one wants to talk about it or don't want to consider it because after all, in 2011 we also have to play the likes of Wyoming and Washington and Fresno and of course that tough Big 12 schedule that includes ISU, CSU and KSU...oh my!

In a little bit I will be heading downtown. I hope most of the out of town folks are all ready there so I don't have to sit in traffic too long. It looks like it is going to be a very nice evening for football. There appears to be very little or no wind right now.

The only reason he called out Nebraska specifically is because Perlman is the Chancellor at Nebraska and he is also the chairman of the BCS right now.

BSU doesn't like the BCS because BSU doesn't get rewarded for playing Hawaii, Fresno St., San Jose St. and other pushovers all year long.

If the chairman of the BCS had been Georgia's chancellor im sure he would have called out Georgia and not Nebraska.

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 3:29PM CST
Those who give it consideration listen to the rumblings of those like you and others in places like this. If voices speak against such a match up or sound hesitant to meet the dreaded Broncos...the powers that be will steer clear. However, if the fan base takes note of the game and presses for it, it may be scheduled. Just think of the revenue and exposure on nat'l tv. How could we not want that? The only thing that would seem to weigh against such a game would be the fear of a loss to start the season. Go with Bo's claim of anyone, anytime, anywhere...we'll play the best!

Go to Homes Lake and take the shuttle to the game. That way you wont have to waste gas just sitting there and stuff.

HSB - I saw earlier that u said we need KSU to lose today or we need to win tonight. I've done the math and the only thing we need to happen to win the north is ISU to lose to either Okie ST or Mizz, which is currently looking good. We can lose tonight and win out and we would have the tie breaker against KSU, so Nebraska controls it's own destiny in the north even with a loss tonight. You can't ask for more than that, but that doesn't mean I want us to lose tonight;) With a complete effort we can win this game.

BO BIG RED!!!

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 3:32PM CST
So if Fresno State is a pushover, why are we even playing them ourselves in 2011?

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 3:35PM CST
Robka:

If you look at some of my other posts you'll see that I said that.

As long as we win all our North games we are good. I was saying it would be nice if KSU would have lost today though. That would make it much easier.

If KSU had lost today it would give us one more slip up I think. But seeing as how they didn't looks like we'll just have to win out... starting tonight.

Oh I know that T.O. didn't do this yrs or next schedule, he did schedule the Wyoming game though.

Schedules are done well in advance, then sometimes tweaked later on by the opponents or ourselves.

Posted by: Robka on November 7, 2009 3:38PM CST
HSB - Sorry too many posts to read them all. I do not want to settle for a 4 loss conf championship. We have a good enough D to beat KU & CU on the road and KSU for senior day at home. We should win all those games if we want the North.

BO BIG RED!!!

kuntryboy:

LISTEN! Jeez...

I said CALLAHAN and SP set up these schedules. Not Bo and TO.

Callahan wanted to schedule pushovers because he wanted wins and needed wins b/c he couldn't win very much in the Big 12.

Callahan's thinking was schedule 3-4 weak OC games that way I only have to win 2-3 confrence games to get a bowl.

And Im not arguing against a game vs BSU... im just saying that that would be TO's and Bo's thinking. What we would make in revenue from the ESPN exposure we would lose to the team that we dropped.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 3:43PM CST
no nothing:

Ok, just suggesting it. When I am able to leave Texas and go to games I usually do that to save some gas for the return trip to the DFW area lol. Plus my grandma that I stay with lives like right next door to Holmes Lake.

Posted by: kuntryboy on November 7, 2009 3:45PM CST
You would not be dropping a team in 2011. We have an open date already. Nothing lost in scheduling Boise. I agree that Fresno & Wyoming should be pushovers. Washington ain't real great either. So let's take the opportunity to play a good team! Unless of course you think that Boise is not a good team. If so...we need to find a real challenge.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 7, 2009 3:49PM CST
Kuntryboy:

Im saying what they do is they usually plan these things out.

We have those open days for a reason.

- At the beginning of the season gives us one more week of training camp and sorting out personel problems

- At the end of non-confrence games right before confrence gives us some much needed rest that we need going into a very tough confrence schedule.

They have reasons that those days are open.
