Pro Day: NFL Network in the house
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on March 11, 2010 at 4:14PM CST
Big crowd at Nebraska's Pro Day this year -- 24 NFL teams were counted in attendance, including St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Ndamukong Suh let most of his impressive combine results speak for themselves, going through just a few position drills.

Suh had camera crews following him around, including the NFL Network and people from Nike for his Web show "Ndamukong Rising."

Twelve former Huskers tested. Larry Asante, Phillip Dillard and Matt O'Hanlon all left pleased with their numbers.

Asante took most of his results from the combine, but did run the 40, improving his time, posting a 4.55.

"They said they wanted to see me run 4.5's," Asante said. "That's what they wanted to see and they got it."

Asante said he keeps hearing late-second round, possible third-round draft pick. "We'll see."

O'Hanlon said there were a lot of scouts who said he improved his status. He posted a 4.58 in the 40, jumped 37.5 inches, a pro agility of 4.0, 3-cone drill of 6.80 and broad jump of 10 feet.

"Overall, I'll take it," O'Hanlon said.

Dillard, who had a good combine, felt he improved his status Thursday. He had a pro agility of 4.29 today. He had a 4.40 at the combine. He had a broad jump of 9-4 today. He had a 8-0 at the combine.

Dillard did not run the 40 today, seeing no need to today after posting an impressive 4.64 at the combine.

"After I ran that I was like, 'I'm not ever running this again,'" Dillard said with a laugh. "I don't want to contradict it by running something slower the next time."

Among players not from the 2009 Husker team that worked out were Marlon Lucky, Armando Murillo, Shukree Barfield and Frantz Hardy, who was participating in his third Pro Day.

Hoped to talk to Lucky, but never saw him emerge from the field. (Reporters aren't allowed to watch the testing.)

Also did not speak to wide receiver Chris Brooks, but the rumblings were that he ran a 4.43 in the 40.

Don't know what numbers Barry Turner posted. Carl Pelini said the defensive end had himself a good day. But Turner, who hasn't done interviews in quite a while, declined to talk after his workout.

Hope all these guys get a chance to prove what they can do in the Pro's

I really think Turner is good enough to play in the NFL.

I also hope Murillo makes it, he was our best DB in '08.

I'd sure like to see Marlon Lucky catch a break.

Bumarooskie...I agree. Too many Marlon haters in recent years. O'Hanlon, on the other hand, still owes me from the Va Tech debacle. The cost of the total trip was around $1500. I'll be waiting by my mailbox for the check.

ExHuskers can show up at the pro day hopping to get another chance in the NFL? Raising hand too, I hope Lucky will get another chance and stick with a team. Did Purify get pick up during the season after Cinny waived him?

Matt O was the most improved player this last year IMHO. I was down on him big time after V-Tech, but he more than made up for it, and I wish him the best. It would be great to see Chris Brooks do something he didn't get much of a chance to do with Nebraska, play football. Marlon, well I was one who thought he should have been on a roster already. I hope he gets to stick with one this time around. Great hands and I love to see him back with NU trying to get to the league. Go boys!

Great story Brian. Man, I love what Pelini and TO have done for the ethic and attitude of our players. If these are the kind of seniors Bo is going to graduate, I'm proud to be a fan.

BC - I read your article. On Dillard's last comment about the D-line, it sounds like he finally go his head right. Here's to betting that he actually has a good pro career, if he stays that way. Too bad, it didn't translate to his sophomore and junior season's like we had hoped.
