Nebraska rises in coaches' poll
Posted by: Steve Sipple on October 9, 2011 at 12:44PM CST

Nebraska (5-1, 1-1 Big Ten) lands at No. 13 in the first Harris Interative Poll of the season.

The Huskers jumped a spot to No. 14 in the coaches' poll.

Meanwhile, Big Red stayed at No. 14 in the AP poll.

Here's some news:

Florida is out of the AP ratings.

Not just the Gators -- the entire state.

For the first time since Dec. 6, 1982, no team from the Sunshine State is in the AP poll. Florida dropped out after losing to No. 1 LSU 41-11 on Saturday, and preseason national-title hopeful Florida State continued its freefall by losing at Wake Forest 35-30.

The top 10 teams in the poll were unchanged. No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 5 Boise State, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Clemson, No. 9 Oregon and No. 10 Arkansas all won by an average of 34.4 points. No. 4 Wisconsin was idle.

As Bo said, NU needs to improve. At this point, NU is not a #14 team IMHO. I think they can be if they reach their potential. On the brighter side, even though OSU had played NU only twice in history, it was GREAT that NU's first B1G conference win was also NU's first ever over the Buckeyes. OSU is a quality program even if they are struggling now. Purdue (1-0 vs the Huskers) is the only B1G team that NU has not beaten. (Assuming my googled sources are correct).

I think this kind of win can really change things, just like another loss would've.we have top10 talent IMO,we just need Taylor to play smart and our defense to TACKLE people the first time.we can be better than 14th,not saying we are right now, just saying we can be.GBR

Posted by: theironhorseofdeath on October 9, 2011 1:20PM CST
Agree Jumbo, I think every team can find flaws that they can improve on. Nebraska has its share, but they have look at the bottom, and pull themselves up. I think this win will bring the team even closer, and it was excellent to see the coaches, and players stick together.

Go Big Red.

wonder how the game impacted the RECRUITS at the game??

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 9, 2011 1:29PM CST
Sip,
Much has been said about Bo and his handling of the media.

Are you on Bo's good side?
Are is it not in your best interest to comment?

Is there any side bars with Bo's where he jokes and smiles?

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on October 9, 2011 1:30PM CST
A good win in anyone's book.
And a great historical comeback for the ages.

But, what is the 'Dirk' article that some are up in arms about?

Copy and paste that. I know why Bo was pissed, but he should have let it go. If you ever see the guy who wrote it you would know why Bo should just ignore hime.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 9, 2011 1:52PM CST
Thanks Buck,
I just read the article.
To be honest I don't see anything wrong with it.

It is not a everything will be ok article. Chatelain makes some sense.

I see no reason for Bo to get as defensive as he did.

So a writer see things in a different prospective.
When you use your postilion to bully the media that could be considered censorship.

If you don't like what a writer says about you then don' t read the article.

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on October 9, 2011 1:55PM CST
Ok Buck4NU, I read it. A little strong on TM. Not necessary to take there. I was on Beck's case last week and I don't think Beck did a good job last night. Obvious to everyone, Coach Bo and I disagree.

TM is super talent, use it. Help him improve. But Beck is a mystery in his play calling.

But as a whole, the article was un-necessary and in very poor taste.

But...what has Mr. Chatelain every done to give him such authority in football matters?

Yes, I can clearly concur with your assessment as to Bo being upset with the guy. I would have too. Bo should just ignore the guy.

Most tweets and blog statements are just venting material anyway, nothing to take all that seriously and Mr. Chatelain is taking himself way to seriously. Too bad he thinks himself intelligent.

Posted by: HuskerInIowa on October 9, 2011 1:55PM CST
Would someone with tickets to the next game please take a sign saying, "Real Husker fans don't boo"?

Posted by: TJ1 on October 9, 2011 1:57PM CST
I guess I didn't think it was that bad of an article. I can see why Bo wouldn't necessarily like it, but there must be more than just the story.

What did you think of it BWD?

I would think Bo and staff would not read these things, no good can come from it. Heaven help us if he start reading the LITR! Some of us will have to go into the witness protection program.

Posted by: casualobserver on October 9, 2011 2:00PM CST
Polls are the last thing to be interested in right now. This ranking syndrome thing is rather out-of-hand anyway.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 9, 2011 2:06PM CST
I am glad we put it to the Gators yesterday but it makes me a little sad to see Florida and Florida St. out of the rankings. They may be down but that state churns out recruits the rest of the nation dearly wants. Bo Pelini, Jimbo Fisher, and Will Muschamp passed through Baton Rouge and all moved on to head coaching jobs.

Back to the chores

Posted by: PaintItRed on October 9, 2011 2:08PM CST
I wish people would stop saying they were booing. The student section was saying "Suh", because he was there in front of them, waving his arms and trying to pump up the crowd.

Posted by: Ture Husker on October 9, 2011 2:08PM CST
I think Bo was worried about how it was affecting Taylor not himself and he confronted the writer who seems not to have responded with any good answers to Bo's questions. Now that Bo has seen TM rise above the dirt standard of the media, I think that will be the M.O- Rise above, TM proved he can handle it.

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on October 9, 2011 2:09PM CST
I agree. If I'm coaching....I am staying far away from reading or passing through social media. 99% don't know anything about what is really going on, so its just venting or visiting.

I would also encourage players to stay away from it as well. Having fans is great, but you're playing the game with or without them. If any individual FAN is so wrapped up in a team that they can't function because of a loss, then its the FAN who has a real problem.

These are still students that happen to play football at NU. Like them, Love them, but keep it all in proper perceptive.

My thing with Beck, soooofaarrrrr ---seems his lack of imagination and purpose. For me, an OC has to have those.

Posted by: genius_man16 on October 9, 2011 2:17PM CST
But see that article was 100% just that guy basically ranting about Martinez and Pelini.

I understand that media obviously can have their own opinions, but you should at least mix in your opinions with some reporting no? I totally get why Bo was pissed at the guy. I mean maybe it's just me because I would have been pissed if I was Bo too, but it just seems like that piece doesn't really have any place in the paper.

Posted by: TJ1 on October 9, 2011 2:21PM CST
BWD,

I would have thought we'd see that little swing out pass to turner again last night. I don't think I saw it anyway that I remember.

TM didn't do too bad on the option last night when he pitched it. I did think OSU was getting waaay too much penetration for most of the night on our O line.

Hopefully this will be the spark that starts the fire. Now if we can get the D to gel we will have a barnburner.

Posted by: micropterus_salmoides on October 9, 2011 2:22PM CST
when players execute OC's look very smart, but Beck did do a great job in the 2nd half especially with the 3 and out to start the half, he could've lost them there again.

These guys just need to rally around themselves and play with that same fire and urgency.

I think the defensive coaches will back off their astro-physics of football, and dial back the scheme and let the kids play ball

Like Bo did in 2003:
-simple cover 2
-fly to the ball
-wrap-up.

Sip: I hate to change subject, but just read on line at ESPN an interview of Dan Beebe regarding revenue sharing and Nebraska:

"I asked for them to consider it,'' Beebe said of the revenue-sharing pact. "Nebraska was one of the biggest objectors of equal revenue rights, and their president Harvey Perlman said that. We could have done this two years ago and none of this would have happened.''

I may have forgotten some of the details regarding our departure from the Big XII, but this sniffs of sour grapes ... what say you??

GBR!!

Posted by: TruBlueRed on October 9, 2011 2:37PM CST
The problem with the article is that Dirk has made it a personal onslaught against one player (and maybe coach;), . To critique a players play or a coaches coaching is fine.....to take it down to a personal level is not........that is what many "true" fans are having problems with. Venting is one thing, bashing a player personally is not. The OWH guy wrote an article today calling Martinez a West Coast Introvert who doesn't seem to fit in...............In 50 yrs of being a fan I have never seen such journalistic integrity used against an NU player..........critique his throwing motion all you want......but leave the personal bashing on blogs, media, twitter, to other teams with classless fans. Booing a guy for one interception really shows a lot of Husker Fan class as well.........I bet the recruits at the game were really impressed with the boo bird so called Nebraska fans???

Let's see, Martinez threw for 2 TD, ran for one, a couple hundred passing, and around 100 rushing, and yet gets called an introvert (by the same reporter in question from last nigh,) in an article the day after the greatest come back in Husker history,....??????? Maybe there is a good reason Bo won't give him the time of day?? ........ See the same thing on here........making excuses for why OSU lost there edge and we came from behind to beat them, rather than congratulating our players and coaches..................I don't know why they call this the Big Red blog............surely are a lot on here who are not Tru Red, imo

I don't care how old or young you are, the true classic husker fans do not harbor a culture of booing............spin it all you want, but would love to see a poll on it at Memorial stadium, .........also would be great to photo all the boo birds and post their pics in a boo gallery for halloween:)..............bet Bo would get a kick out of it;)

Young team getting better, enjoy the ride!

Dirk has NOTHING in his background to suggest he knows anything about any sport. Especially football.
I saw him sneak into the recruiting dinner last year (without paying of course) Just to try and get something out of people because Bo wasn't there. This isn't his first run in with Bo and I don't think it will be his last.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 2:49PM CST
I really like what we did in the second half offensively. We went to a version of the Bone at times, with three RB's and Martinez in the Pistil, no tight ends. Beck said we also changed blocking schemes in the second half. But more importantly, the big DL for Ohio State wore down and were really sucking air in the 4th. Reminded me of the Miami game, when we owned the 4th quarter.

It was just a great win in my book. Shows that you have to have the mentality to play the whole 60 minuets and never give up. And you have to give credit to Beck for making the adjustments in the 2nd half. I respectfully disagree with BWD on Beck's play calling. Thought it was stellar, especially in crunch time. Plays work when people execute and we did that big time in the second half.

You can critique all you want, but I am savoring this game. Beating Ohio State is a big deal.

Posted by: Coopster on October 9, 2011 2:50PM CST
I think a lot of people on this blog are making excuses for Bo's bad behavior and not looking at the bigger picture here. Instead of being a jerk/bully (whether we win or lose I see no difference) why can't he say "no comment" to a question that he does not want to answer. He has to remember who his employer is - The University of Nebraska not the U of Bo. He is representing the University and is paid by the University and should be mindful and respectful for that very reason. I get it, some of the questions that are asked during these interviews are lame, dumb and downright stupid but he still needs to maintain decorum and remember who he represents. By giving curt, short, blunt, sarcastic, and repetitive answers he continues to perpetuate the problem.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 2:54PM CST
Maybe it's Dirk that does not fit in.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 3:01PM CST
Bo sticks up for his players, and he should. He has their back and that's why they play so hard. It's amazing that we have this big win and some like Coopster ain't happy and probably never will be.

To me though the dust up is a big do about nothing. Dirk in the past has wrote scathing articles. I don't even read him any more. Period.

Posted by: BUCK4NU on October 9, 2011 3:01PM CST
Well said I/H. I have met him and weasel is the best desciption I can come up with.
He looks for the negitive because he believes it will get him readers.

Coopster
I don't disagree that Bo could do better, but saying no comments would get him just as many critics. He is competitive and not a media savy guy and i don't believe will ever be.
We used to cmplain how Boring Tom was because he just bored you with his non answers. LOL

Nish I agree it wasn't horrible but it was (as BWD said) uneccessary

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 9, 2011 3:03PM CST
True....Dirk's article was in the Friday paper. I think he raised some valid points but gets lost in the personal stuff and then postgame he was trying to push buttons. He was treated at least as well as what he deserved...."next question?" Sort of a Belichick response.

Posted by: HuskerinGeorgia on October 9, 2011 3:05PM CST
TrueBlue: I read it too. Respectfully disagree with your take. What part of the article was a "personal" attack?

Posted by: Coopster on October 9, 2011 3:05PM CST
No Island/Husker, there is just a different way to do it. He FEEDS the negativity by being negative. I am quite happy thank you - I just don't like jerks.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 3:08PM CST
This is for Bo: This is one fan that has your back.

You know it seems some fans can't just enjoy the moment, savor it. I was a great comeback win. We made the stops when we had to. The offense had to perform when they had to. Did not make mistakes, put the ball on the ground it was just pure physical hard nosed offensive football. I don't care of Martinez is a introvert, extrovert, or any of that. He is a tough, tough kid. Green is an extrovert, the media loved him to death, just because of his personality. But that does not make him great football player.

I as I have said before, savor this win. It was fun to watch, both the bad and the good. This is why I love the game. The kids gave it their all. Can't ask for any more than that.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 3:13PM CST
Bo a jerk. No he is not. So Coopster, I guess you don't like Bo, that's ok. There are still some fans who don't like TO. That's the way it is, not every body is going to like you.

Posted by: TheNUorder on October 9, 2011 3:18PM CST
There are 3 things that occurred last night that many “fans” seem to have missed based on what I see on the blogs today.

1. NU won the game.
2. NU beat Ohio State in football for the first time in the history of the Universe.
3. NU pulled of the biggest comeback in the history of Husker Football.

I consider these reasons to celebrate and be happy.

Savor the moment.

The coaches will look at the tapes this week and go to work on what needs to still be improved. Bo will get Better, Beck will get Better, the Players will get Better.

I’m proud of the coaches and the kids. Great heart and a great team effort.

I was texting my son that I think we are seeing a young man become more mature. Still has a long way to go but TM took a nice step last night. It was a fun win even though I I am resticted in how I move! LOL

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 3:28PM CST
That touchdown pass in the Flat to Burkhead was a great play. Martinez looked down field, could not find any one, dropped it off to Burkhead who a had a LB coming at him full speed and want to take a his head off. Burkhead caught the ball, made a nifty juke, leaving the LB to grasp nothing but air, then the TD. You can't teach moves like that.

Posted by: BUCK4NU on October 9, 2011 3:29PM CST
That's true I/H but you obviously can teach someone to check down. It took him a while but it looks like TM is finally learning that and it is fun watching his progress!

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 3:33PM CST
Your right about Martinez, Buck. I was referring to Burkhead's play. As Brown says, Burkhead always plays with his eyes up, and that's how you can make plays like that, he sees everything. I thought last week we had Burhead in the flat wide open and Martinez would throw down field. I thank that is something they worked on this week.

Posted by: Chet1946 on October 9, 2011 3:34PM CST
I/H

I thought T-Mart played is best game and managed it well. Burkhead, well what can you say. Now that I don't live in Nebraska anymore, I have just talked to some of my New Mexico neighbors who watched the game. Their take was one of shock. They did not think that the Huskers a any chance of pulling off a win. I don't know what nick name Burkhead is going by other than superman in NE. Here a couple of them said today T-Rex fits Burkhead.

Buck I bet it was hard watching the game on your back. Just take care of yourself.

Yep Boom a feel good win. I loved it. I think this whole team is starting to grow. Except for last year, the Hallmark of a Bo coached team is that they play their best in October and November. I think this team will be like that.

I am still looking for some screens? With our speed, some screens should really open up things. You run a couple of screens with this offense and you put the Defense really on their heels.

Why Beck does not run screens, I don't know?

Boom, I've heard it called just the plain ol diamond, and I've also heard it referred shotgun bone or wishbone.

I like sit it's balanced and you can run a crapload of plays out of it, two lead backs, all three could lead for the QB, 2 going one way the other getting a quick toss the other send both spit backs up into the LOS, a power sweep with 2 lead backs, QB fake or give to the 3rd back...2 backs on flares to their side one in to protect or up the middle on a go or settle under neath the backers as an outlet....100's of plays to run from it.

We'll for sure see more of it in the future, I'd think, plus the QB can get under center in the same formation...you can change the depth of the backs, all kinds of fun stuff.

Posted by: rluben on October 9, 2011 4:04PM CST
He doesn't run screens because they are harder to set up and execute than just sending the back(s) into the flats as part of the play.

What has been going on most the year is backs in the flats instead of in protecting and then the linebackers haven't been covering them, but Taylor would ignore them being open, even when he looked at them and either throw it to someone covered tight or tuck it and run up the middle for little or no gain.

He left a lot of plays on the field that could have been made and would have made a difference in the Wiscy game, Beck obviously worked wit him this week to take what is there to take...and he took it.

Screens are nice and all, but if they aren't going to cover your backs if you send them out on the edge in the flats or on a flare pattern, why the heck would you need the drama of a screen pass?

Now Defenses have a choice, change personnel, to try to match up with backs running free in space, put their backers on them and try to cover them in space, or keep ignoring them.

Either way makes no difference, something opens up more if they cover the backs either in the middle or on on one downfield or maybe even busted assignment.

Worst case is there's less defenders in the box, everyone is covered tight and there's an alley to tuck and run through..or you throw it away.

Won't even talk about how badly you can burn them if they bring any kind of pressure off the edge u or up the middle and you get it out there to the back...now he has another go to play if he sees them creeping like they are going to bring it.

Great win! Gotta take at least a day to savor and celebrate! Any team that comes back to score 28 given all that happened leading up to this game should be applauded. Lots of heart, tenacity and team in this win.

TMart…answered his critics loudly. Too bad some will still pick apart something in his performance…mechanics and such. He made good decisions overall and didn’t try to take the game on his shoulders. There was a lot of team in the offense.

Beck…called a good game. The game plan was tailored to TMart’s abilities, included TRex and had some nifty looks with the diamond. Even when Burkhead wasn’t making yards (10 carries for like 13 yards in the first half), Beck kept in mind his bread and butter. I liked the play action where TMart fake-stepped up the middle…almost a play action off the zone read. It sure caused Buckeyes to bite.

Ameer…just a great player waiting to break out on any given kick return.

Roadgraders…endured and persevered and won the line of scrimmage when it counted.

Posted by: rev.redd on October 9, 2011 4:14PM CST
Defense…still a work in progress. Containing the QB is going to be an issue in games to come. Didn’t understand why there wasn’t more blitzing & stunting as that has proven to be effective against the Bucks. However, the DB’s really stepped it up a notch. Coverage much improved. I noticed on some plays the CB’s gave receivers less cushion, stepping up closer to the line. This made a difference IMO. David…gamechanger.

Overall the defense stepped it up and performed in the second half. Some would say the loss of Miller for Ohio State made the difference. Sure, it helped us, but I still give credit to a defensive unit that showed heart and kept getting after it. Based upon what was achieved in the second half, Blackshirts should come out. If anything, David has earned his several times.

Posted by: rev.redd on October 9, 2011 4:26PM CST
I agree with BC that reporters tend to make the story too much about themselves. “Fans don't generally care about all that stuff near as much as media people think they do. Media writes and talks way too much about media…” Dirk may not get it, but a lot of us do. It seems a lot that was written had the look and sound of a tabloid. Bo had cause to speak out and defend his players, although he could have done it more tactfully. But then again, if responded to any other way, he wouldn’t be Bo. Still, time for him and everyone else to move on.

Posted by: Nuke1970 on October 9, 2011 4:36PM CST
I'm tired of the "we did not execute" comments. I do not believe the first half was lack of execution on offense. I think it was play calling. The second half, the coaches woke up and realized that OSU was keying on Taylor and Rex. Once they opened it up to where they had more to worry about, the kids ran all over them. I'm not sure what work our defense up, but man did they look like a different group the last quarter and a half. I was ready to cry at halftime, but was excited the whole way back to the hotel after the game. I hope these kids remember this feeling and repeat this effort.

What's with these fans who booed Taylor???? Wish we could get rid of them. They don't belong in a stadium with signs telling the greatest fans enter here. They are terrible and maybe they should just stay in the parking lots and drink instead of coming into the stadium!!

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 9, 2011 4:42PM CST
rev...you appear to be talking to yourself. No worries, I've done many times on here. That said, if you find yourself answering your own questions...walk away, take a break.

rluben...on the screens. My assumption would be that we don't run the screens probably because it's something that is difficult for TM to execute. It looks simple enough but TM doesn't throw the ball with fluidity which may make that throw difficult for him.

Posted by: BUCK4NU on October 9, 2011 4:45PM CST

We still didn't execute. But you are right the changes made at half time made a difference, but it sounded like the changes were mostly in blocking scheme. But either way it all worked!
Still not sure anyone was booing Taylor. Maybe coaches? I agree some decisions were bad on coaches part. Don't get the booing though. Does nobody any good

Chores done. One thing about this hurrah over the Omaha World Herald reporter, he achieved his purpose. Most everybody read it, it's filled up some blog space and it set off the head coach

As for this wishbone, headbone or whatever the fb gurus call it, I don't care if they line up looking like the south end of a Missouri mule as long as they move the chains down the field. Go Big Red.

Nuke...if you're tired of hearing the "we did not execute" comments just imagine how tired Bo & Co. are having to say them. It is about execution and we are not executing well. That said, confidence goes hand in hand with execution. The more confident players are the less they think and the more they react. The opposite is also true and there has been way too much thinking about what you as a player are supposed to be doing going on. When players are in 'I can't make a mistake' mode they tend to think too much rather than react and play based upon all of the repetitions they have had in practice. Common with youth, it will get better.

Beebe is blaming NU for the Big 12 falling apart????? What the F????? Buh bye ash whole!!!!!

D needs to keep improving. People still want to blame #3? OSU was on it's way to a 30-40pt game with subpar offense. D needs to tighten the screws or NU will not be in the B1GCCG. Tackling and brain farts. Some of you can blame the coach but bottom line is the players have to do it on the field.

This isn't Callisham here, Bo has a rep for getting it done. Callisham talked the talk but Bo walks it. Hopefully the D grew up last night. GBR!

I thought Bo said that he and Taylor don't read or care what the media writes. If that is true, how does he know what Dirk wrote and why is he so mad. I personally would appreciate a little more class out of the head coach of the football team. He is the most visible representative of the university and it isn't a very good picture.

Posted by: rev.redd on October 9, 2011 4:54PM CST
GBR, I think part of the difficulty with the screen pass is that it takes some skill get it over/around a defender who is often charging you. A QB also has to take something off the ball as well, not simply firing it full strength at a RB who is often just a few yards away. Accurate assessment? If so, is this what is difficult for Taylor to execute?

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 9, 2011 4:59PM CST
BUCK...his size may be an issue as well. Probably a combination of both lack of size and lack of fluidity. Not sure I would characterized his motion as long...not sure how I would characterize it...I'm just gonna stick with 'ugly' and leave it at that. I'll take ugly as long as the ball gets where it needs to go.

Busie...care to take care of my chores? A Missouri mule reference...hmmm.

Gotta go get a laptop for the youngin for school. Be back later. ALCS is rained out for those who care.

Howdy Coach and all, can't agree more Ms. Busiekcreek, as Florida for players is one of the big 3 states for the nation? Other two being TX and CA. So thought Florida State was going to be the one carrying their state but they've gone into a tailspin?

No excuses but reasons beyond control for coaches? As with Sam's senior yr. at OU and unbelievable amt. of key injuries incurred?

Step referred to Laundry as a senior, think again he's a junior? But saying that, he might come out into NFL at end of season and might not, we'll see said the blind man?

Jumbo, I can't agree more, as a comeback win of this historic significance, could propel them on to bigger and greater things season coming and add tons to their confidence?

I recall a international tourney in Bulgaria, where midway through the tourney, I almost got beat by a higher seeded opponent, that I underestimated from Turkey, stealing victory from the jaws of defeat in the last seconds?

This spurred me on, to getting to the finals and beating the higher seeded opponent from Serbia, who in two previous matches, never beaten before?

So this kind of comeback win, gives the team the confidence that anything is possible?

Respect all and Fear none!

It was the game for excitement? The domination of wins for both LSU and OU are good for their fans but not the neutral party watching?

This was primetime, in the coming back and stealing the win from the jaws of defeat?

ABC had to really like the game, as well?

A couple of weeks with the fantastic win, and who knows, the progression or development will bring exactly what my guess, as we will see a metamorphosis of a positive kind?

Got my quota, but a little like the game, was going home empty handed and then spotted one in the corner hunkered down? I think he thought, I didn't see him but I did and quick in the am hours got to him and kicked a what, 64 yarder as that HS boy did in Nevada, the other day?

Geaux Tigers, AFA disappointed me? As all academy schools didn't look good this weekend? But two Big Reds won in different ways but it was in the winning, that made it all sweet?

Just past 6 am in HK Mon. morning? Got to bike soon as needed early at university, later all!

GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

There were some booing as one guy sitting next to me did but then I had a little conversation with him and I didn't hear him do it again.

The fans were chanting Suhhhhhhh and Ruuuuuudddddd during the game when they showed them on the Big Screen and some may have misunderstood what was going on.

I had a personal run-in, almost, with Suh downtown a few hours before the game as he came around the corner as I was approaching but luckily I sidestepped him, LOL

I watched the repeat of the press conference...a few things stuck out...

1. Bo gripped the podium too hard. Tree huggers everywhere are up in arms.

2. Before being up, Bo did not give up his chair for an old lady that entered the room.

3. Bo did not personally apologize to every blogger who feels that Bo may have done soomething wrong.

4. Bo did not shine Chatelain's shoes when asked.

What kind of hed coach do we have? Sometimes I'm amazed at what people expect out of a head coach. In rerunning where I could hear questions, DC's early questions were not so bad and Bo obviously didn't care to answer his questions....but DC did try to take over with his 8 questions in a row. I will be quite happy if for the rest of the year, fan's biggest complaint is that Bo didn't care for someone's question in the postgame.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 9, 2011 6:34PM CST
There must be alot of coverage on Bo that doesn't make it out of the state of Nebraska. What exactly has he done to earn the title of a classless bum? Is it because they are comparing him to TO and T.O. is always reserved to the point you wonder if he cares?

a couple of thoughts...regarding Jirk Chatelein, when I originally read the article last week I was surprised by the overall tone, even though I realize that he has been one of the more negative scribblers. He seemed to really step it up a notch, but I wasn't all that bothered by it. However, His op-ed piece after the tOSU game did strike a nerve. His claim that "Martinez doesn't really fit in around here." because he's a "West coast introvert" (paraphrased) reveals an insular, exclusionary arrogance. Who in the hell is Chatelein to judge who "fits in" and who doesn't? Martinez an introvert? I highly doubt that Chatelein has spent any time with Taylor outside the interview room. How could he possibly know who TM is? Nothing worse than someone acting like they know something that the rest of us don't...arrogance borne of ignorance...I watched the second half of the game last night over again and it was just as entertaining. People that say the ONLY reason that NU won was because Miller went out are dead wrong. The tide had already turned on David's larceny and TM's subsequent sprint into the endzone on a well conceived and well blocked option. Had NU been held to another FG at that point IMO the game is most likely lost, Braxton Miller or no Braxton Miller.

Whats up buddy? How are the brown tree snakes?

Personally... I never read any articles from the OWH or LJS. Not that I wouldn't like them... but I just dont give a rats arse what anyone else has to say. I've got eyes... so no need for listening to what some sports writer has to say. I would have never known there was any kind of rivalry between media/coaches... and no idear half of Nebraska hated TMart before this last game.... had I not read about it here.

No offense... but pretty much all types of media kinda suks. Not all though.... cause some stuff.... is fantastic... like.... say... LJS blogs!

Posted by: otto on October 9, 2011 7:40PM CST
It seems everyone is only talking about a sub-par writer who's only agenda is to get at Bo.

The win was great--the way it was won is also being debated---
Did NU win it? or did OSU lose it?

NU played as poor as Iv'e seen it in the first half---in the 3rd Q the game changed when their (OSU) QB came up hurt--- the backup was as poor a passer as TM up to that point.

NU's D came alive when the Offense got a couple breaks with the help of penalties, and the rest is history.

The next big game QB, Michigan, will be hard to handle as mobile as he is---NU hasn't to this time been able to contain such a QB with such talent to this point in the season.

A lot of questions left to be answered in game time ways and only in game time!!

A win is a win--great or so so.

Go Big Red!!

I know this has been said (asked) already, but I've read no good answer yet. Many have intimated that the crowd at the game was boo-ing :

a) The coaches
b) the play-calling
c) the "interception", not Taylor
d) been saying "Suhhhhh" or "Ruuuuddd" because they were on the big screen.

My question(s) is/are:

a) How does Taylor know they are booing the coaches. The coaches aren't on the field and the coaches aren't the ones who just threw a pick. Is there a sign in the stands that instructs this? Was it on the big screen? Did it say, "Taylor, do not take offense, we are boo-ing the coaches"?
b) How does Taylor know they are booing the play-calling when Beck is hiding in the booth and probably can't HEAR the boos, but Taylor can, and he DID just throw the pick.
c) How can you "boo" in inanimate object? If an ugly car drives by and I boo it, am I really booing the car or the idiot who is driving it?
d) Really, Suh and Ruud's pictures were on the giant screen at that VERY MOMENT Taylor threw the pick? Who'd have thunk it?

Point is, the fans boo-ed a player, and that is not acceptable, period. For those who want to sugar coat it and "pretend" it was something else, my advice is this; take all of your meds and rest easily, the padding on the walls is like cotton candy!!!

Most of the fans in the seats are adults. Most did not boo Taylor last night. I applaud those of you who didn't. There were even some who said the addressed those around them who DID boo and it didn't happen again.

For the rest (and I know it is a small percentage), you are sitting in the seat of college football's BEST fans. Act like it. Save your boo's for your barkalounger at home where no one pays attention to you and no one cares. I have only been a fan for 36 years, so I know I'm still green at this whole Nebraska football thing.... but I, for one, was embarrassed. Nebraska needs to open hunting season on boo-birds - no limit and ALL weapons approved. I think you'd only have to bag two or three before the species disappears... would you field dress these or just bleed them and clean them at home? Things that make you go hmmm....

Why don't any sports writers write about things everyone wants to hear about? Why not talk about the happy things that would make life better for all people? Why not write about the murder of Matt Millen... and the fact that his death means he can never do color commentary during another Nebraska game... ever? Why?

I read the fish wrappers mainly because I like the player profiles, explanations about player moves etc. I'm gonna stay away from the op-ed pieces from now on. Bo & Co have shown yet again that they will try just about anything to get the best possible combination of players on the field. Love it.

Jumbo

Untill the worm turned in the 3rd Q, with all the skill Taylor M has--what did he do different? -- than what had he been doing since the Wisconsin game???

That was the question I raised---

The next was HOW will Nu defense do different with a moble QB like Michigan has---Wyo. had--both made the front 4 look like lost chickens in a fox chase?

Go Big Red

Posted by: NorthTX Husker on October 9, 2011 8:22PM CST
The fans' passion fills the stadium and boosts the TV ratings. That brings the players in. The same passion results in pressure on the coaches and players. That is not ever going to change and is no different than any other top team (go to a Ohio State media site and look at the comments/reporting on their 2nd string QB). NU fans are known as the best for how they treat the other teams fans, but they have always been demanding on the coaches and players. The DC article was a little over the top, but not a big deal. On the flip side, with his gesture to the boo birds and post game DC interaction, Bo showed his players he is with them. Cool with me. The program is in good hands.

And what a great pass to Enumwa.

You saw it too Otto, and your a smart fan,I know,Ive read your posts for awhile,He started using his check down, that was the difference IMO,but I also think Beck called plays to protect Taylor from hisself, which he didnt do at Wiskey, had Beck stayed with the running game I believe that Wisky game would've been much different. As for Meatchicken and the super-freak that is Shoelace....lets hope we got some Peso magic for their spread, because he will run for 250 if we dont shore up our containment and tackling

Two other observations about the game. First, the diamond formation (as noted by about 1000 posters) was effective and I can't remember seeing that before. Maybe the start of something big. Second, I think our cheerleaders are even more pretty than usual this year.

I never understood booing. When I had season tickets, a guy sitting beside me, started to Boo Tommy Fraizer after Tommy made several passes that hit the ground in front of an open receiver. He was a newcomer in our section. All of us long time ticket holders in our section sit him straight. He was quiet the rest game.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 9:09PM CST
In our section we had a rule no booing allowed..

Good rule to go by Islander.

I read the article and I can see why Bo was being defensive towards the reporter.
This would be just like some one walking up to you and saying your son is a retard.
Just plain stupidity.

Bingo Islander yes it is.
Have to find a pic of him from The Big Red 1 though.

finally back home after watching a great game. At least the 2nd half was great. Nice to see a bump in the polls.

I am not however ready to say we are out of the woods. Somehow we have to figure out how to tackle a mobile QB. While I did like the way the offense played in the 2nd half we can not continue tp let the Qb make us look silly runing the ball.

Just got done watching the replay and 1 of the announcers said that most defenses do not account for the QB as a runner and that is sure true in our case

But now is the time to enjoy the greatest comeback in Husker history.

It was fun to be a part of

The Booing in Lincoln. Couple of points here:
1. It was deserved.
2. It was directed not so much at TM but the state of play (The Defense, The Play Calling, and Execution).
3. We still have issues at corner and safety. I think we should boo Cassidy for his missed assignments...
4. It won't be the last time.
5. I hope I'm wrong.

Posted by: wacky4huskers on October 9, 2011 9:32PM CST
TM, can't decipher who the booing is being directed to so should IMO not be done!

It is not a showing of class and surely will not make anyone play better!

Remain a part of the "best fans in college football"

Posted by: PT Husker on October 9, 2011 9:33PM CST
Sorry Matti but it is Never deserved IMO. disgust maybe. A "come on Man" for sure. But booing, whether against the Refs, the other team, or especially your team is out of bounds.

But I am old and I was raised to respect others. so I guess I don't understand.

Posted by: cstxfn on October 9, 2011 9:33PM CST
Numbers 1 thru 4 look pretty solid. Maybe the only teams that could beat them would be numbers 1 thru 7. Number 14 seems about right for the Huskers, I think they have a pretty decent chance to beat any team ranked lower then that.

I was yelling things during the game that I definitely would not yell if I was at the game. I'm allowed to boo and hiss while alone in my living room, right?

I'm thinking other schools with high expectations of their program have similar "problems" with fans and pundits. The lone, dinky newspaper where I live has one sportswriter that issues grades on the TAMU performance. He's probably an ok guy, but I've always figured it must be kind of galling for the coaches to be scrutinized by this poindexter. He seems more qualified to rate movies.

Speaking of TAMU they got a taste of what a Big XII goodbye feels like. They won their game in Lubbock but had their 4 team busses vandalized the night before the game. Lots of "nice" notes painted inside and outside the bus and decorated with some kind of excrement. Really nice of those Red Raider fans.

The season is going to unfold as it will and it won't matter how upset or excited I get about it. I'm just going to enjoy it as much as I possibly can. There's enough of real grief in life.

I/H - Good stuff by Hamar in the GI Independent. Worth the read. Also, appreciated the quote from Ron Brown: "We told our players after the game, we got booed a little bit. We heard it. Don’t retaliate. That’s how it is. Treat these fans with respect. Teach them how to act. Teach our media how to act. Teach the people around us how to respond when there’s adversity."

Posted by: big red 1 on October 9, 2011 9:42PM CST
Sorry Matti but booing at a game is just plain classless. I agree with PT and was taught not to do certain things and that was one of them.

Posted by: BleedingRed on October 9, 2011 9:43PM CST
If I were the head coach of any program I certainly would not allow individuals to attend any press event when it is clear that their entire purpose is to bait, badger and pester members of the staff.

The "press" has enormous value in any free society. Their duty to report the events that are relevant for an informed community are without question.

However I do, and always will, take issue with any person who pretends to report on news worthy events when in actuality it is clear that their intentions are to create news worthy events through rhetoric and misuse of an otherwise honorable profession.

Should we continue to expect tabloid journalist's to be present during such interviews?

Not sure if it got to the level when we beat CU with the long FG but he said it was rocking in the second half. Said he heard no Boos in the west balcony but a few " what the F***"

Posted by: rev.redd on October 9, 2011 9:55PM CST
Continuing to talk about the poor behavior and tabloid scribblings of others is probably not the best way to celebrate a great win.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 9, 2011 9:57PM CST
Bleeding Red you know I always respect your views but I beg to have a different opinion on who's allowed to a press conference. Who would make the decision as to the attendees.

When you attempt to keep out trouble makers, so to speak, that sets a precedent that can be made to fit someone's idea of what is right.

Free speech, you don't have to answer the question; just simply say, next question. Telling a reporter "I'm through with you" is not my idea of the proper way to handle that situation. If everybody agrees, looks alike, talks alike, that scares me.

If it had not been for a group of radical troublemakers in the colonies, we would still be doing a curtsy before the queen and sipping tea. lol

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 9, 2011 9:57PM CST

rev.redd,

Great point.

Busiecreek,

You are right. I agree with everything that you said. I am sure that Bo and anyone else that was harrassed would like to have a "re-do".

I suppose that I would only do interviews while certain people were not present. I don't care if they are annoying, sometimes that is their job. I would care if they are fabricating, manufacturing and creating stories to serve themselves. I guess that I would just leave when those persons were present. You want an interview, call my secretary.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on October 9, 2011 10:06PM CST
Busie...well said, all good points. To me Bo made the statement, "I'm through with you" after this reporter took liberties and continued with question after question trying to elicit negative responses toward players. It was time to move on to a different reporter. Could he have done it differently? Yes. That said, I don't blame him for the manner in which he handled it in light of his previous writings about players.

Posted by: rev.redd on October 9, 2011 10:09PM CST
Topics & Questions that could be considered instead of talking about booing and mediocre journalism:

Did Jared Crick suffer injury? Concussion?

What was the response from the nine recruits in attendance at the game?

Who received game balls?

Will blackshirts be handed out? If so, with so many players rotating in and out on the defense, who receives one?

Did anyone hear Millen say that Andrew Rodriquez is an amazing athlete and is considered an NFL prospect by his coaches?

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 10:10PM CST
Busie I am with you on the press attendees. Whether you are the President or a HC, you are always going to get reporters that try to push buttons. Most don't do that, but there are some who do have an agenda. I just want them to be respectful when they ask questions. Bo was curt with the individual but did not tell him to buzz of either. But you can't blacklist a reporter, that would cause even more headaches. Freedom the press is an important element of the Constitution.

To me, we are making way to much of the DC issue. For me it's not that big of deal.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 9, 2011 10:12PM CST
That should be Freedom of the Press. I am sure the the OWH got lots of hits on that article on their Web site and sold a few more papers because of all the talk. Which is the intent anyway.

There was a crucial sack Saturday night that was caused by the play of one player, Josh Williams, who will never get credit for it. The week before Will Compton made a great play, was out of position to finish, someone else did and again, he will never get credit for it. This type of activity goes on all of the time. What one player does impacts those around them, thus the entire idea of football being a team game.

I actually did not care if we won or lost this game once the score was 27-20 OSU. The reason is that I saw a team come together. I saw a group of younger and older players do what they had to do to get back into the game. There is no question that we were having issues with OSU's running qb and once he was out things settled down. But it also was very clear to me that our team is young and inexperienced in some key areas and that, like the team, we as fans are going to have to endure and fight through some things.

It is a pretty difficult thing to build a top notch team. That is becoming more and more clear to me over time.

That's why I love the LJS sports staff, they have balance reporting, and are always respectful when asking questions, and don't have any hidden agendas. They do a great job.

Did you all watch the recap on huskers.com Bo and the team in the locker room at the end is great. The emotion of that game was all over his and Carls' faces. What a night.

Before I call it a night, gotta say this last tidbit. Yall know our politics down this way can reach epic status as relates to fueds. The late Gov. Earl Long had a running battle with the Times Picayune newspaper of New Orleans. Lasted for over 40 years. But like Uncle Earl was fond of saying "I kept that poop sheet in 'bidnes' ".

The turkey who was goading Bo, was just that. But like I said earlier today, he probably had more folk read that, blog about it, and to boot riled the head coach. This weasel probably just had his 15 minutes of fame.

I am concerned that if Crick has a second concussion he might be out for the season. That's an injury you don't want to mess with.

Watched the game on BTN... watching sideline activity.... guys never giving up, lots of adda boy and high fives and hugs.... choked up on the tying TD, and the go ahead. Rex Burkhead, Taylor Martinez, Levonte David never lost hope, and it infected everyone. Go to Huskers.com... great highlight reel, and a smidge of Bo giving his postgame speech. Proud.

I agree Islander. The OWH is the reason I stopped reading the paper when I was very young. Even then I recall realizing their reports were not reports but agenda's that they were attempting to push. I decided long ago that I did not need someone else telling me what I needed to think.

I do enjoy good reporting though, when I can find it.

Glad to see the diamond formation make another appearance. A lot of good came out of it in the game yesterday. I have been telling my friends about this formation and all the possibilities for it since before the spring game. I even made a few comments a few weeks ago in a pre-game chat, although not all of them got posted. I think it should be used way more than it has been because we have the players to use it. OU, OSU, and TCU used it last year. We have used it quite a bit differently than they have/do. Hope to see it become more of a staple than it has been.

Posted by: black&bluehusker on October 9, 2011 10:32PM CST
The good news with Crick is that we have a bye week followed by Minnesota. He should have ample time to recover but if it was another concussion, you may be quite right I/H. That would be a big loss for a team that may be beginning to find itself.

One other observation. Millen and McDonough had mostly nothing but good things to say about our players. It was so nice not having to listen to Musberger and Herbstreet!

Posted by: cstxfn on October 9, 2011 10:51PM CST
Statman... I read that article earlier today and I'm glad you mentioned it. It seems like more crap out of the mouth of Beebe and I noticed that the article sought no confirmation of what Beebe said from a Nebraska spokesman.

I would think if Crick suffered another concussion he might be best to call it quits for the year. I'd like to see what one of our resident doctors have to say about how many concussions in a short length of time is too many.

An ole tune my grandpa used to sing, "What a difference a day makes" change that title to "What a difference a couple of hours makes"

The tone and demeanor and the standing up for Coach Bo, to what what was being said by lots on here after Wisconsin game?

And where are the ones predicting a OSU win?

Sorry no fun, as in the losing can't come on and give others in support your crap?

I find the real fans in what and who, they predicted to win for this past game? And it seems pretty true for the ones choosing OSU, are the ones that get in their quips against NU also? Strong correlation of probability, on that one? Not all but many?

As it goes deeper, as some on here that pretend to like NU, always seem to choose in their losing and wanting to relish in those facts?

I saw bloggers on here after Wisconsin loss, never seen before and won't pop up again until another loss of that nature?

A great win, as wins aren't always in the domination, in fact more gained in the coming back, in this one than all previous wins for this season, I suspect?

If you look at the winners, in past NC's, somewhere in the season, was a win of escape, that kept them moving for eventual NC status?

Champions are born from these types of wins?

This will be a turning pt. game, for not only this season but when looking back on Coach Bo's tenure here at NU?

A whole lot of good came from this win, in the weaning out of some of the crappers, in between the Wisconsin and OSU game?

Please NU don't stumble again, like in Wisconsin game for this season, as to keep the crappers away, that's my wish?

The crappers, I am referring to, we all know who they are mainly?

1 pm Mon. finished lunch and working in my office here at university and now got to scurry?

Later!

Just some thoughts ..
Everyone is talking of Rex and TM, O-line, LD well deserved..But what a pass play that was to Q for a TD... perfect perfection.. and it wasnt a lob pass from TM.
The 30 formation, diamond..I'm estimating we averaged around 15 yds, for the times we ran it, (4 times I believe). They had no defense for it.

Thought it would be a defensive struggle, boy was I wrong again, dont think we will have one of those this year.

PT, Wacky, and BR1-Booing continued...

Just to be clear booing is not something I would be doing. But, the results of booing seemed to send the message. To be honest it takes a lot for Husker faithful to boo. They protect, fight, and even put there own credibility on the line in regards to the patients and support they put into the program. I don't blame the boo-birds. Pelini and Team had 18months to prepare for the most anticipated games in perhaps school history. Our first four games were average, and we laid a complete egg, give little effort, and seemed in complete disarray for 5 straight quarters. The team understood what they were up against, top to bottom, expectations included. They bragged that they would be good all off season. The boo-birds did the one thing no-one even, Pelini could. They added motivation to the team, and made it personal to Bo. That seems to be the only way he survives. (see also Chatelain).

Posted by: Dave on October 10, 2011 8:18AM CST
Without naming names, Sipple did a great job of addressing the issues the Omaha newspaper seems to be having with Bo. Sip basically acknowledged they were way over the line last week.

That Dirk punk doesn't like Bo, and seems intent on baiting him into some public confrontation, which he almost got on Saturday. Now for Barf to write a column defending Dirk's actions, and once again trying to publicly fight the OWH's fight, I think is pathetic. That was without a doubt, one of the most arrogant columns I've seen. Sorry, OWH, its not about YOU.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 10, 2011 8:19AM CST
Matti

Your example is called negative motivation and sometimes works......but always pi$$es the other guy off. I enjoyed the positive approach that the other 80,000 people chose to try by screaming their heads off and instilling confidence in the team. It was obvious late in the 3rd quarter the crowd was willing these young men to a win....it was that part of the crowd not those that chose to show their disgust by negatively voicing their own character flaws that helped this team succeed.

Posted by: Country Husker on October 10, 2011 8:25AM CST
Good link, TJ. Always good to read something where the writer isn't trying to paint a negative picture. Seems Lincoln hospitality must have impressed some Ohio folks.

Glad to hear that those OSU folks enjoyed their trip to Lincoln in spite of a loss for their Buckeyes.

Posted by: Dave on October 10, 2011 8:30AM CST
The difference between the Lincoln and Omaha newspapers is that the Lincoln Journal has writers who can offer a critical analysis of various aspects that don't make it a personal attack. The OWH, on the other hand, seems to ratchet the criticism over the line to where they make it a more personal attack, and that's what raises Bo's ire. These actions by certain OWH writers are purely intentional, as you can see it in almost every piece certain guys write.

Nobody is saying that everything written about the Huskers has to be sunshine and roses, but to make the blatant off the wall personal attacks is out of line. Thankfully, LJS writers seem to be able to offer objective and honest analysis without making it personal.

We came out of this one with many positives to look forward to. Has Martinez found his stride? Is SJB the corner we have been missing? Does NorthWestern have a mobile QB? Will the off week help or hurt? What will be the calamity that arises in the next week or so to give us new fodder to fret about? Who is going to win the world Series? (Not that I care). Will the volleyball team continue its run through the Big 10?

PT,

The blocking helped, but we started the 2nd half with 2 three and outs and a Buckyeye TD. After David plucked that ball, the entire team seemed to come to life, including the defensive secondary.

Could be the play that defined that game. That game could be the game that defines the season. If they continue what they started mid way through the 3rd quarter, they will be a team to reckon with the rest of the year.

If my memory serves me, Mobile QBs have been a problem for us for some years not just this one.

Hopefully we find a solution soon.

PT. We really seem to have issues with QB's who can scramble a little or are not afraid to run it themselves.

Remember that NU has had some QB's who had that same talent, when everyone else did not. Now, almost all of the schools recruit QB's who can run the ball (adding another running back to the scheme)

AND...take note that we moved the hash marks closer to midfield when these QB's types were not around. Now that they are here, it may be the hash marks need to return to their formal distance from the sideline.

no no
I just read an article that says aggressive behavior gets you noticed more often.

I would have to agree looking at this smart car I just plowed into.

205 posts... with about half of them about this Chitterling character at the OWH... and youse wonder why they write what they write?

It's cause they get this HUGe reaction from NU fans. Thats it. It's all about attention. It's working.

The owh has been a thorn in my side for years, but the attention got me re-elected numerous times

NO, Fortunately I was not on it during peak traffic. I took my daughter to the VBall game and then showed it to my wife on Sunday Morning.

At least I can say I have sued them.

I was able to save on my attire also

I think any team that plays NU this year is genuinely concerned that they could lose to them. Even at 5 - 1 I think that NU is a bit overated from what I have seen. They have really only played one good team this year and they lost that one. I hope the HUSKERS can end the season as a top 20 team.

PT
I think their is a short in your switch, it only works for about 20 minutes a game.

Sometimes in the beginning and sometimes in the end.

Make that used them. Did not have to sue. LOL

Biggest play in the games was when Miller cut up field and twisted his ankle. The Huskers had no answer for his running or passing....Joe B. was a totally different case.....WORTHLESS! His performance against NU was more of the same.
"Joe Bauserman, a senior, started the first three games, including home wins against Akron and Toledo. In last Saturday's 24-6 loss at Miami, the senior completed just 2 of 14 passes for 13 yards.

Miller played in relief of Bauserman and was 2-for-4 for 22 yards and ran for 32 yards."

2/13 vs Miami...his performance vs the Huskers was equally inept. At least against Miami, OSU's game plan centered around him. Against NU it was designed for Miller...OSU's Players knew they were toast when Miller went down.

Earnie, you may be right. If they play well against Minnesota and Northwestern perhaps I can take it out of the box.

Charger has said he would break it for me if the get it together for a full game so it can be flipped.

You can help.

been reading the owh for over 40 years and enjoy reading their sports section good or bad. always going to be something printed that some dont like..also booing is something that happens and is a part of sports. i was thinking that T-Magic should take the bench and get his thoughts together in the wisconson game. it would not have hurt at that point....but that was JMO as a Husker fan. Booing our own team has always been considered beneath real diehard Husker fans and has only happened rarely inside Memorial Stadium, but I think anymore we are just the same crying whinners that you find everywhere else nowadays,we as a fan base may have been special 15 years ago,but to say that now really doesnt hold much weight.People that keep calling for Brion Carnes obviously aren't hearing the chatter that he is a horrible passer that can punt the ball closer than he can throw it in practice, and that the Red-White game was an aberation of pure luck coupled with going against reserve players under zero pressure.Tim Becks play calling cost us the Wisconsin game every bit as much if not more than anything Taylor did.
