Meanwhile, out in New Haven ...
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on October 14, 2009 at 3:19PM CST
Checking in with the Ivy Leagues for a moment. Former Husker Patrick Witt is apparently no longer Yale's starting quarterback.

Witt, who transferred from Nebraska prior to spring ball, learned he had lost the job last week and then found out he was suspended from the Dartmouth game by his head coach, Tom Williams, for a "violation of team rules."

The violation, Witt told the Yale Daily News, was that he accidentally slept through the team’s weekly Friday night meeting after studying for a midterm.

“I was doing some reading and I fell asleep on the couch, so I missed the meeting; and if that’s a violation of team rules then that’s pretty absurd,” Witt told the school newspaper. “I understand that we are all required to be at meetings, but it was a simple accident and it’s unfortunate that it happened, but don’t try to make it out to be that I was using illegal substances or something ridiculous like that. It was something that all Yale students can understand."

Witt began the season as Yale's starting quarterback, going 43-of-81 for two touchdowns and three interceptions. He was pulled late in the fourth game in favor of Brock Hart, who led the team on some scoring drives and was then named the starter in the days that followed.

No Ivy League education here, but my guess is calling out the head coach's decision as "pretty absurd" won't help Witt's cause.

BAM! GBR

Posted by: HuskerBeefeater on October 14, 2009 3:23PM CST
Must of been some good reading? Ivy League today issue? Too much talk of the Cornell Big Red...

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 3:27PM CST
What a baby!!! I lost faith in Witt when he couldn't even out run the campus cop.
His mama better go up there and straighten things out for him.

Posted by: Outside The Box on October 14, 2009 3:28PM CST
I deleted my usual snarky comment. No need to kick a guy when he's down.

Posted by: MileHiHusker on October 14, 2009 3:28PM CST
One word, wuss.

Posted by: Matt in MN on October 14, 2009 3:29PM CST
Witt gets what he deserves. The guy mildly dissed Nebraska in the article on ESPN (Ivan Maisell maybe?) by acting as if it was a culture where all Husker athletes shoot for C's, when nevermind that whole thing about the most academic All-Americans. He clearly was not a fit at Nebraska and probably what a lot of people thought after his transfer turned out to be true. I can only imagine what would happen if he openly criticized Coach Bo like that. Obviously a prima donna type...good riddens to you, Patrick.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 3:31PM CST
Maybe he should start using illegal substances so he doesn't fall asleep :)

Posted by: MileHiHusker on October 14, 2009 3:35PM CST
And he was the projected starter for the Huskers. Kind of makes me wonder where we are with Lee. Lee seems like a tough minded kid and has shown some signs of being a descent QB plus his sister is hot.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 14, 2009 3:39PM CST
Flea,
I never to the "Out run the cops story" care to share?

Posted by: Outside The Box on October 14, 2009 3:41PM CST
Retract my earlier statement - I'm gonna get a shot in:

You'd think an Ivy Leaguer would be smart enough to set an alarm...or rich enough to hire someone to wake him up.

Posted by: MileHiHusker on October 14, 2009 3:43PM CST
Or have his father call the coach and let him know that there will be trouble if he gets disciplined.

Posted by: TheOneAndOnly on October 14, 2009 3:43PM CST
XFD Witt.

Go fail some more, buddy.

Posted by: huskers4_eva on October 14, 2009 3:46PM CST
sounds like Witt isn't to witty

Posted by: Redrickman on October 14, 2009 3:48PM CST
I heard he's transfering again. (For academic reasons)

Posted by: atlhusker on October 14, 2009 3:48PM CST
he's not a real football player! i knew he wasnt going to be our next qb after the clemson game. he almost cost us the game!
i appreciate now just how good Ganz was to us. if we only had him one more year!

Posted by: MileHiHusker on October 14, 2009 3:50PM CST
In the one meaningful play that he had for the Huskers he did show great intelligence by having his knee down before he fumbled. Ya gotta give him that.

Posted by: Outside The Box on October 14, 2009 3:52PM CST
In Witt's defense, what does it say about the concept of "student-athlete" if an Ivy League player gets suspended for studying too long?

Posted by: joe t on October 14, 2009 3:53PM CST
Wow...classiest fans in the nation? Didn't work out for Witt at NU, move on. He's at Yale living his life.

Posted by: Redrickman on October 14, 2009 3:54PM CST
And bad mouthing NU

Posted by: joe t on October 14, 2009 3:55PM CST
Btw, way to go Christopherson for stirring the pot with that unnecessary update. Just wanted to see 'ol Husker faithful in true form, didn't you?

Posted by: PT Husker on October 14, 2009 3:55PM CST
Nish. Witt got in a little scrape on campus and a campus cop ran him down. Kinda funny actually. Guess mobility would not have been his strong suit.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 14, 2009 4:01PM CST
Rumors are flying again this time about Holt....anyone heard anything "factual" concerning him?

Posted by: Redrickman on October 14, 2009 4:01PM CST
Don't know where Yale is, but got a friend who growed up in Harvard, and he's not uppity...

Posted by: Trashman on October 14, 2009 4:01PM CST
Where's Tiffin when we need him. I can cover it: "the loss of Camp Witt will be more than people think. Thoughts?". Close enough?

Posted by: Exiled_in_VT on October 14, 2009 4:02PM CST
In New Haven, you don't need an alarm. You can usually count on the gunshots waking you up several times a night...

Posted by: HuskerBruin on October 14, 2009 4:03PM CST
Not that I'm not fascinated in the Yale QB race, but.....

Does anybody know what big rumor is going around today that I just heard referenced on 1620 radio? They guys over at Huskerboard can't figure it out either, but Kevin and Mik'l said they've received tons of emails about a big rumor that they can't confirm or deny. Is this more bad news or just blackshirts appearing?

Posted by: BleedingRed on October 14, 2009 4:07PM CST
Wow. What a wake up call. I am going to stop spoiling my kids immediately.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:11PM CST
NishBigRed........It was a couple years ago and on campus Patrick had had a couple brews and if I remember right is was someplace where he wasn't suppose to be. (I think it was a girl thing) Anyway a campus cop addressed him and Patrick fleed. Long story short the the campus cop run him down and subdued him........end of story!

Posted by: Guido on October 14, 2009 4:12PM CST
The big rumor is that someone was supposedly seen pacing boxes at a mountainous campus site of a big 12 school. There, I didn't say anything specific - did I?

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:13PM CST
Oh I just saw that PT answered your question.

Posted by: Gofor2 on October 14, 2009 4:18PM CST
I read an interview with him a couple of weeks ago talking about his transfer and how it was so refreshing be to able to talk current events and other intellectual mumbo jumbo with his teammates compared to Nebraska. Sounded kind of elitist to me and unfair. I've known and worked with plenty of Ivy Leaguers and at the time same folks that played at Nebraska and went into a profession. Bottom line was, didn't matter where you were trained, do you have common sense, empathy, and compassion to go where your intelligence? Many times I would experience arrogance in those types which resulted in subpar performances and inability to take feedback and learn.

BRG, your burning tens of thousands of calories a day. You'll look like PeeWee Herman soon.

rumor is Meno Holt tested positive for a banned substances

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 14, 2009 4:21PM CST
Wow Witt is Slow. I get a visual of the cop on the Simpsons chasing Witt.

Posted by: Deez Nutz on October 14, 2009 3:43PM CST
Holt booted for smoking weed? Anyone else heard this?

Posted on another thread can anyone confirm?

Posted by: HuskerBruin on October 14, 2009 4:34PM CST
There were a couple of rumors on Huskerboard and the only one that sounded somewhat plausible was that Meno was kicked off the team. Hadn't heard of the weed thing.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:35PM CST
Did he inhale? Or does that matter.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 14, 2009 4:35PM CST
only if he's running for President

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:37PM CST
I don't think Coach Bo is too tolerant of guys who do drugs........no grey matter there.....see ya!

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 14, 2009 4:38PM CST
sucks if it's true but you're right Bo no like wacky tobbacky

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:39PM CST
Nish......yeah that's a funny visual right there.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 14, 2009 4:41PM CST
Unfortunately these internet rumors often turn out to be true. Bo has shown what he thinks of that behavior. Not sure I agree with him but It matters not what I think.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 14, 2009 4:44PM CST
This has been a heck of a week for the back ups. Step up and prove how good you are. Meno....that's a disappointment, all that talk and never got to prove it on the field because of what he did off the field.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:45PM CST
PT.....IMO what is important here is that the players know that there are certain things they can do to get kicked off the team and when they go ahead and do them anyway then, I'm sorry, but I don't feel at all sorry for them. It's all about choices.....and of course, letting your team and yourself down.

Posted by: huskers4_eva on October 14, 2009 4:45PM CST
holt, weed, what?

Posted by: HuskerBruin on October 14, 2009 4:46PM CST
POWERHUSKERS, care to provide a link?

Posted by: PT Husker on October 14, 2009 4:53PM CST
Flea, I totally agree with you. Been preaching this to my oldest son for years. He is 30 and still has not learned the lesson that rules are rules. Be they good ones or bad ones, they are rules. Mess with the Bull, you get the horn.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 14, 2009 4:58PM CST
Hell I know how a spur of the moment decision can alter ones life......been there done that. Life's leasons can be a real bi*** sometimes. Maybe this whole thing is just a bad rumor......I hope it is.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 14, 2009 5:07PM CST
Man these kids sure can be stupid. I sure heck wouldn’t want to sit across a table from Bo, and explain why. PS Anyone know why Castile was dismissed. Heck I never heard why Glen was dismissed.

Posted by: MileHiHusker on October 14, 2009 5:20PM CST
Castille tested Positive for weed 3 times.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on October 14, 2009 5:25PM CST
Does anybody within LJS actually have some facts on this issue or are we still following the rumors?

Posted by: otto on October 14, 2009 5:51PM CST
It should be explained to the athletes that when they accept a schollie for a sport, especially any of the major sports from the U, that they are held to a higher standard than the usual students are.

This includes the information about any such actions deemed unexceptable by ANY student and is subject to be given out to the public.

Kids make mistakes and some make real stupid ones that don't belong in the "mistakes" catagory.

These actions are more deliberate, the need for severe penalty,--- loss of schollie and dismisal from team are in order.

This is a area for the Coach to let the Unity Councel be at the front, peer judgement is really more usefull at this point to drive home the terms of society than a blanket judgement by the Coach only.

1620 just reported that Meno is practicing today. So much for that rumor!

Posted by: otto on October 14, 2009 6:05PM CST
Let's hope for the best!!

Posted by: Bloozman on October 14, 2009 6:37PM CST
As I've said MANY times before, do NOT decommit from Nebraska and attempt to move on to greener pastures. There's no football future in it. He's a smart kid, he doesn't need football.

Posted by: dbhuskers on October 14, 2009 6:46PM CST
well daddy Witt, where is your son transferring to now?

Posted by: Outside The Box on October 14, 2009 11:33PM CST
I won't lie - I kinda miss the days when posts containing unsubstantiated rumors about others were quietly deleted.

If you have a "source" other than some other message board, than cite it. Otherwise go back to ripping Shawn Watson

Posted by: ArguingWithIdiots on October 15, 2009 1:00AM CST
Outside the Box.....you are right in the groove......

but........ here is a hot new rumor I just concocted. Witt transferred to Harvard. Has changed his major to political subterfuge. Quoted as saying he was not proud to have been a Husker, his wife has never been proud of her country. Says there is no reason they should be burdened with paying off student loans. Well, you can fill in the rest yourself.
