BC's a Little Ten lover, eh?

NSAB!!!

Guys I have a question. Why don't our #1 D linemen go head to head with our #1 O linemen more than 28 plays per day (a number I read on this site earlier)? I would think it would be a great way to improve both squads.

Sip: link would be nice.

Ask Bo what the score will be saturday night.

re DUNG - thought I told you to take a LEAP!!! THE "DOG" wants you "boys"to ask Li'l BO P if Dr. "hollywood" Watson will play it conservatively or "LET THE DOGS OUT!!!"

Posted by: blunn33 on November 5, 2009 10:21AM CST
Here is my problem with the offense. Why do we constantly run stretch to the weak side and allow the defense to use the sidelines as an extra defender. I am a high school football coach and I would rather run to wide side and have a one on one matchup with the ball carrier and an unblocked man than run weak and have the pursuit run me out of bounds!!!!!!! Watson needs to adjust the game plan for the strengths that we have. We don't have Castille and we don't have Joe. What we do have is an elite athlete at qb who can move the pocket and when he did against baylor positive things happen.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 5, 2009 11:08AM CST
blunn33. Good suggestion which you could send directly to Shawn Watson at this email address: triggins@huskers.com. Tell him you are a hs football coach so the screener will send it to him to actually read.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 5, 2009 11:28AM CST
Stupid question, but why is Watson's email address triggins@huskers.com? I'm no IT expert, but wouldn't you expect it to be swatson@huskers.com?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 11:47AM CST
At least it's not Trickster. I wonder why somone would postes one's email on a public blog? I wonder how many will ask Wats what his favorite flavor kool-aid?

Posted by: no nothing on November 5, 2009 11:49AM CST
PT. I read your question about LTW getting into the mix. Sips answer was something like there isn't the time in practice to work on those things. While that may be true to a point, I tend to think there is a lot of standing around at practice. I tend to believe they have a first team O and a first team D and everyone rotates into that if you are in the upper tier mix. If not, you are probably standing around some.

I have to think that because we never hear any first hand outside information about how the practice is organized and actually conducted. I think it may be like the pros. We do hear that at times "young guys are not ready" to play. How can that be unless they are not really practicing. All players should be engaged in practice at all times except in live scrimmages IMO. There is no excuse for players not being ready to play nine games into the season! It shows on Saturday too. I do not believe practices are as productive as we are lead to believe each week either. Again, we will see Saturday night at 7PM. I would love to see TO and BO practice schedules side by side. My guess is one is based upon repetitions and execution and the other is based upon style and finesse. JMO.

No Nothing - Comparing the practices of T.O. to Bo (or even Callahan) is apples and oranges.

Tom (with the benefit of higher scholarship limits, fewer practice restrictions, and a seemingly unlimited walk-on program) could have multiple stations running at the same time, which allowed the 1s, 2s, and 3s to get in multiple reps.

Bo doesn't really have that luxury. You'll hear about teams who have "crisp, fast-paced" practices. I think this occurs mostly to get the most done in the limited time they have available. If you're lollygagging around, the 2s and 3s can't get their reps in.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 12:33PM CST
No, I understand that he would not be able to be a full blown running back but I thought they might be able to use him in special situations. Prolly did not make myself clear. And obviousl;y the Defensive radar would go up if he came in. Just looking for ways to shake things up.

Has Scott Frost learned enough of Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon this year to come install it at NU next year?

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 5, 2009 1:08PM CST
I think Frost's duties are limited to restraining RBs from attacking fans.

Posted by: Father of future Husker on November 5, 2009 1:12PM CST
OTB)) Are you sure Bo can't run the practices the same way? NU has got more players on their team than any other in the Big 12, something like 157.

Back in the day, we used to have 4 stations, 2 offense and 2 defense. You had both offense and defense at a station, but if it was an offensive station, the offensive coaches were there and you always let the offense win so they didn't look bad. Likewise, if it was a defensive station, the defensive coaches were there and the offense let the defense win.

When I was freshman, I was on 4th team and I had to go against the 1st team offense at an offensive station. The offense called a trap, and I had to take on the pulling guard (Brian Blankenship...who later played for the Steelers) He drilled me, but the worst part was somebody messed up an assignment and I remember Tenopir yelling "run it again". AAAAArrrrrrrgh! NO! It was worst the second time because I knew it was coming.

I still have flashbacks when I hear "run it again". NOOOOO!

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 5, 2009 1:19PM CST
Same feeling I get when the pass in the flat is called by the OC.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 5, 2009 1:22PM CST
FOFH - I don't have the inside knowledge to know if the 4 station practice can or cannot be run today. I know the rules in T.O.'s day made it a little easier to do (more schollies, more assistants, more practice time, etc).

If nothing else, to successfully run 4 stations, you'd have to be very organized and committed to getting reps to that many guys. I think one of the reasons Callahan cut down the walk on program was that he and his staff were not capable/interested in herding 160+ players through practice.

I think many coaches feel that it's important to get quality instead of quantity, which also plays into it.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 5, 2009 1:36PM CST
box so did I miss your prediction for Saturday?

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:41PM CST
OTB....are you saying his title is "Bouncer"? LOL

Posted by: Father of future Husker on November 5, 2009 1:53PM CST
OTB - I don't know if they are doing it today or not either. My point is that Bo could do it today based on the numbers that are in the program today vs. the previous regime.

Posted by: Dave on November 5, 2009 1:55PM CST
Outside the Box,

You missed the part about where the email address is sent to a screener. Obviously, not Watson's direct email address, as he probably would get too many to look at. They go through another person to screen out the junk and stupidity.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 1:55PM CST
FOFH. Are you making the Tailgate??

Rudy, Rudy, FOFH

Posted by: charger on November 5, 2009 2:10PM CST
I sort of peeked at practice last night and it appeared that the team was working out in Hawks and on the grass field at the same time. From what i have caught in the past the players don't stand around.

Posted by: Big Red in Big D 007 on November 5, 2009 2:17PM CST
Heading to the cantina again boys to solve more problems. If you haven't checked out lflus.com, please do cause I did. Went to the Dallas/LV game earlier this year and I think the Dallas QB is better than Lee or Green. Bet QB would give the huskers the spark they need.

Let me know what ya'll think. Later

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 2:41PM CST
OK everybody is so stumped by Big Red in Big D's question they ran and hid.

Posted by: Inbread on November 5, 2009 2:47PM CST
PT, I haven't left, but there is just not much going on around this joint today. Kind of dead all day.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 2:50PM CST
Hey Pt- I was wondering if you were still lurking... Sounds like my pops and I are headed up to lincoln saturday morning. Snow bunny got me the hook up on a cheap hotel room!!! Looks like we'll be at brewsky's knockin a few back then headed to the LITR tailgate with her and her boyfriend! should be a good time.
I know the definition of "libations" is alcoholic beverages. Is this a drink ticket deal or open bar or tap beer or what's the deal with the drinky?

Posted by: Inbread on November 5, 2009 2:53PM CST
Man I wish I could join you all up there at the tailgate, sounds like fun. If its the right lot, I think that is where me and my OSU buddies had a spot for the last OSU (embarassment) game up there. PT, dont you all forget to post pics of the event for the rest of us.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 2:55PM CST
Black Shirt. don't know. Just that it is provided. Probably Beer is free. But i am guessing about that one. Where are you staying. GBR and i will be at a Days inn on 12th and cornhusker.

Shooting any ducks??

Posted by: charger on November 5, 2009 2:58PM CST
Are we going to party hard??? :>) What time are/is everyone going to show up?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 2:59PM CST
Wish you could be here Bread. I am sure there will be cameras galore. I haven't tackled the pic thing on here so will probably leave that to others. We are gonna bring them a win.

Posted by: Inbread on November 5, 2009 3:02PM CST
I have a kegger and a watch party down here to go to during the game. Or as I like to put it, it is a party to celebrate my sons championship that we will have won by that afternoon.

The only problem I have with living down here, is I will have to put up with endless amounts of sh*t if we lose. It is tough being one of about 5 (families) NU fans in a town of 5000. Here's to hoping we give me bragging rights for a couple years.....GBR!!!!

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 3:02PM CST
Charger, It starts at 5:00 and I am to old to party hard, but I can eat with the best of them.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:02PM CST
Thanks, was just wondering if I needed to load up on the booze if there was a limit we could have or purchase. We are staying at the holiday inn express at 11th and cornhusker. Right close to you guys!
Season opened on saturday so I got a few hours of hunting in with my dad that morning before the game. Scouted the spot on thursday and there were 2-3 thousand ducks on it. I know a guy that hunts it occasionally and he said there is never anybody hunting it... Guess opening day wasn't the day to be there, it was like world war three started at 7:15 am saturday morning... needless to say we didn't shoot a duck.... There were plenty flyin just too many people shootin!

Posted by: Inbread on November 5, 2009 3:05PM CST
Retriever, since you are staying at the holiday inn express, if some of these folks run of Wats like they want to, I am going to nominate YOU for OC.....lol

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:06PM CST
Charger, I have a feeling me and mike and prolly snow bunny will be half cocked when we arrive... Stadium should be pretty drunk being it's a 7 pm game....

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:07PM CST
HAHA inbread- I always said I should be coaching. I'm sure the night in the holiday inn express will make me completely worthy!!

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 5, 2009 3:07PM CST
Driveby - my only prediction for Saturday is that you'll change your avatar at least 8 times by kickoff.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:11PM CST
PT- You guys going to the game or just makin the trip for the tailgate?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 3:13PM CST
God I am glad I am not young anymore. the pain is to much to bear. I will remain my usual, overanalytical self. And spout a whole bunch of BS which no body with a brain will believe. But I WILL HAVE FUN. AND WE WILL WIN THIS GAME.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:14PM CST
Question...Can Sipp and BC partake in the "Libations"? I know they have a job to do but I think it would be funny to see sipp all loaded like that reporter from Va tech gets!

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 3:15PM CST
We are going to the game. south endzone so I don't have to walk very far.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 5, 2009 3:19PM CST
were in west stadium so not far for us either. Good thing cuz the old man has a hitch in his giddyup!

Posted by: Father of future Husker on November 5, 2009 3:19PM CST
PT Husker - I haven't confirmed my plans yet. I'm trying to get my neighbor to go with me. He's from Oklahoma, but he played ball at Pitt. St. Also, my daughter has a softball tourney this weekend called the "Iceburg Finale". Fortunately its supposed to be record high temperatures. Anyway, I usually tailgate in the Journal Star parking lot. Where will everyone be?

Posted by: Inbread on November 5, 2009 3:22PM CST
HAHA we could make Sipp the on field reporter, and he could pull a Theisman....lol

OR he could give you play by play and be like HArry Carey....lmao

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 3:23PM CST
South East corner I belive it said. does that make sense?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 5, 2009 3:25PM CST
FOFH, Where is a good place to park. I have been parking at the garage on 15th and O which is not that far and does not seem to fill up real fast. You got a better Plan that does not dost an arm and a leg.

we are on a thread entitled "Live Chat at 10 A.M" the skys the limit as far as what to talk about.

PT. I know what you were saying. I agree he is too good of an athlete to be riding the bench. As I have said before, during the spring game I thought he was by far the best QB.

OTB. I don't know the numbers exactly, but the issue IMO has absolutely nothing to do with the number of scholarships. How many players did Tom have on the team and how many does Bo have on the team. It seems to me that every time any issue comes up around here any more such as, winter conditioning, weight lifting, practice, guys not ready to play, etc etc etc, there is always some excuse to justify our current football situation. No, I really believe all of the focus is directed at the #1 guys in practice. How else can you explain only a week ago that CG was not ready yet. Why wasn't he yet? The same for all of the other players too. When players go down, the backups aren't ready to step in. That is the Staffs fault, period!

PT. I am going to be downtown area Saturday evening. We are meeting friends and family at ES. If I get the opportunity to swing by the LJS deal I will on my way to the stadium. I am not going to be doing anything that requires multiple trips to the can if you know what I mean.
