Landry Jones earns Bo's respect
Posted by: Steve Sipple on November 3, 2009 at 1:52PM CST

OU redshirt freshman quarterback Landry Jones clearly has Bo Pelini's respect.

"Everybody wants to compare him to (Sam) Bradford," Pelini said Tuesday. "I don't know how many games he's started -- maybe five or six. Sam Bradford developed into the best college football player in the country last year. Pretty tough shoes to fill. But I think he's done remarkably well. He has that offense clicking right now. They're doing a heck of a job. And really, it all starts with him.

"The offense hasn't changed much with him. They run their stuff. I think they're playing very well around him. They're very efficient on offense right now."

Jones has started five games total, including the last two, for the 20th-ranked Sooners (5-3, 3-1 Big 12). He was the co-Big 12 offensive player of the week after tossing four touchdown passes last week against Kansas State. He's completed 62.4 percent of his throws for 1,657 yards and 17 touchdowns, with six interceptions.

Tacos make me burp

Posted by: Nebtech on November 3, 2009 2:04PM CST
Hopefully our D can add a few to his INT stat!!! I think they are starting to come around as far as that sort of thing goes. Prince A made a real nice grab (almost out of the receiver's hands) the other day. I am hoping to see him make a few more plays like that one.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 3, 2009 2:14PM CST
The only thing about Landry I respect is his pron star 'stache.

PS - what kind of name is Landry?

Posted by: Country Husker on November 3, 2009 2:24PM CST
I'm a thinkin' ol' Landry hasn't seen a defensive front like Big Red yet. I hope we enjoy his introduction to Suh and Crick.

I also think out of Gomes, Prince, and Alfonso and Larry 'the hammer' Asante, somebody's gonna come up with some picks.

And on offense, I hope our freshmen don't play like freshmen....

Hey, at least when the play goes bad, Cody can scramble like a herd dog and get us some first downs.

GO BIG RED OFFENSE! SCORE EARLY AND OFTEN!

Posted by: RockHusker on November 3, 2009 2:25PM CST
We'll need a bad arse 12th man and a crazy wind this weekend. About time for a bounce to come our way as well. Damn I am almost out of koolaid.

Posted by: taco on November 3, 2009 2:25PM CST
drivebyposter..2 thousand comedians out of work and your trying to break through? keep your job bud. if you dont like it my name is taco bell and i am in the book. lol

Posted by: Fairfield Falls on November 3, 2009 2:26PM CST
I think Landry is a first name...

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 2:27PM CST
JW... has Bo named the starting QB for this week? Is it Green?

Posted by: Country Husker on November 3, 2009 2:31PM CST
Hey, Rock, I chugged a gallon today at lunch.

I'm thinkin' Cody will be a polished performer a week after his first start, throw the deep out, rack up 6 td's, and scramble for first down on every 3rd and 10!

The defense will force a 3-n-out on every OK possesion and Carl will not be invited to Thanksgiving dinner at the Stoops house this year.

Posted by: taco on November 3, 2009 2:31PM CST
going to be nice for NU to upset and beat a top 20 team. the Cody Green story begins. GBR

Posted by: Country Husker on November 3, 2009 2:34PM CST
Fairfield. Good one. I say that because it took me about 5 minutes to get it. That and re-reading out-of-the-box's post.

Posted by: atlhusker on November 3, 2009 2:36PM CST
this is our best shot to beat em but wont happen b/c we cant run and can barely pass. if the defense gets us a score early like against baylor we might have a chance but if they score first which they probably will b/c we love to spot teams early in the game its not gonna happen.
we're not a comeback team!

Posted by: TommyOC on November 3, 2009 2:40PM CST
atl - ye of little faith -

they have a chance

let them play the game and then say the didn't have a chance. OU has not been all that impressive, especially on the offensive front. they have similar issues as NU, but they do have skilled players who seem to make plays. maybe ours will all show up on Saturday night?

Posted by: HuskerInExile on November 3, 2009 2:44PM CST
This isn't Landy from "Friday Night Lights" is it? I sure hope so.

Posted by: Stone on November 3, 2009 3:08PM CST
The defense better play there best game of the year on Saturday night, because the offense will be lucky to put up any points on their own effort.

The offense needs a short field at least four times, if not more to win this one. I hope I am wrong, but unless the offense comes alive like they did in the first couple of weeks, the Huskers don't have a chance.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 3, 2009 3:10PM CST
Perhaps There was a veiled message there to Watson. New QB. No scaling back the play book. If he is good enough to play turn him loose. Or don't play him. time for this conservative crap to stop. It is riverboat gambler time.

Posted by: redone on November 3, 2009 3:11PM CST
The season is done. We don't have a crap shoot in hell to win his game. Bring out the booo birds. I am sure Simple will try and put a plus spin on this but, he has his intelligence cut out for him.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 3:19PM CST
I wish we could vote fans out of their fandom... people like REDONE make me mad. The game hasn't even been played. Look at all the upsets and stuff that have already happened this season, and the Big 12 is a messed up confrence this year. Anything can happen this year.

Posted by: TommyOC on November 3, 2009 3:20PM CST
re - done - "he has his intelligence cut out for him."

Is your real name Jethro?

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 3:21PM CST
Don't get too upset Huskersincebirth. redone actually used the word "we". He is no Husker fan. Therefore, the "we" he is referring to is not us.

Posted by: TommyOC on November 3, 2009 3:23PM CST
I can only say that we're in this game until we're not. I know, very profound, huh?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 3, 2009 3:26PM CST
Zone, can you you make it down to the Game saturday. tommy, I know you are do far away so you are prolly a no.

Posted by: TommyOC on November 3, 2009 3:32PM CST
I wish I could come. I was supposed to be in SoCal for a conference, but now that's not gonna happen, but I'm just stuck up here on the NorthPole I guess.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 3, 2009 3:33PM CST
Taco,

Sorry, I looked you up and you were not in the white pages.

Are you related to liberty?

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 3:33PM CST
PT. Not a problem making it to any pregame party wherever it may be. I, however, gave my tickets to my neighbor. He's helped me out quite a bit around my house, got a snowblower, etc. He's also.....gulp..... a Sooner fan. His wife, however, is a Husker fan. Treat them well at the game and let me know of any pregame parties where we could actually meet any other LITR posters face to face.

Posted by: TommyOC on November 3, 2009 3:38PM CST
zone - i heard BRG is gonna be there looking for posters as well. LOL

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 3:43PM CST
I guys I can tell yall the score of the game before it starts!!!!

Zero to Zero.

:)

lol

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 3:45PM CST
Man... i wanna go to the game :(

But living in Texas makes it really hard.

Guess I'll have to be content going to North Texas Mean Green games... lol

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 3:47PM CST
Huskersincebirth: Call on Dr. Tom to set up a home and home series with North Texas........like he would ever agree to send the team to North Texas.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 3, 2009 3:48PM CST
I so would love to have attended the LITR party but alas, I will be in the throes of the GUMP/LSU game on tv and about 1200 + miles down the road.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 3, 2009 3:50PM CST
Zone, you should have gotten an invite. There is a tailgate for bloggers at LJS on 9th and O. Hosted by LJS. they got tvs and all that stuff.

Your invite would have come to the email that you registered with. If not give me an email address in the message deal and i will send you one.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 3:52PM CST
Huskerzone:

I would love that!

IDK he might in a few years. We're (i say that b/c i got to UNT now but been a Husker all my life) building a new stadium that's supposed to seat like 40,000 i think. The game would def. sell out b/c of all the Nebraska supporters in the DFW and surrounding areas.

Plus, it would possibly help recruiting in this area. So once they upgrade from Fouts Field... it may not be beyond the relm of possibility.

I'd probably b the only one in the student section wearing Red too lol

Posted by: PT Husker on November 3, 2009 3:53PM CST
HSB GBRTEX is going. Maybe you could hook a ride. I am sure he would appreciate a driver.

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 4:02PM CST
OK, PT. left a message for you including my email address. Thanks.

Busie: Best of luck to the true Tigers this weekend against the Gumps.

Huskersincebirth: You can get Dr Tom's email address on the unl.edu website. Best of luck in convincing him it's worth a try.

PT Husker:

That would be awesome... but I have no Tickets :( and work and school are a problem. I had to beg and beg and beg my boss to give me Saturday night off. At first they were like but we need to do some manager training with you... and I was like but this is the most important thing in the world to me...

We eventually settled on me working in the morning and getting off at 6:30pm so Im gunna have to haul butt back home to catch the game.

Im gunna have to have my husker gear in my car and wear it on the way home. I have found this year that when I don't wear my #20 Jersey the entire game... we lose:

VT game: I took it off with 3 min left in the game b/c I had to put my work uniform on... and we lost

TT game: I was at work so I couldn't wear anything at all... and we got killed

ISU game: It was in the dryer (I was washing all the bad luck off it from the TT game) and the game kicked off right before I was able to put it on and we lost 9-7.

So I have found that I need to b wearing my #20 Jersey the entire game and we'll win b/c all the other games I have worn it the entire game and we've won lol

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 4:05PM CST
Got the invite. Printed it off. As of now, I am "N".

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 4:05PM CST
Huskerzone:

Ha ha thanks. I may try eventually... mayb do a Home, Away, Home, Home series??

Maybe he'd go for that

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 3, 2009 4:10PM CST
Tommy......when my dad moved from Hastings to Williston he told people that Williston wasn't the end of the world but that you could see it from there.

Posted by: Jedi Husker on November 3, 2009 4:11PM CST
Outside the Box:

The name "Landry" comes from the legendary coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry. Jones' parents were huge Cowboy fans, and decided to name their son after Coach Landry.

I think that's pretty cool. Tom Landry was one helluva good football coach!

Go Big Red!

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 3, 2009 4:13PM CST
Huskersincebirth2, I am such a superstitious person. Got to have the lucky snacks, LSU hat on (helps bring good kharma to both my teams (lol)

Drive around black cats, gonna throw some salt over my left shoulder, get the good gris gris going.

We're playing on the 7th, that's a good omen. Now to find some "controling powder". Can't help it; just part of the DNA in this part of the world. Would feel much better if the Tigers were playing in Death Valley at night. Coach Bo knows all about that.

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 4:13PM CST
Dont mention that name Jedi. Being an embarrassed Redskin fan, I hate the Cowboys. How many times did Staubach and Landry kill the 'Skins? I respect him as a person, but hated him as a coach.

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 4:17PM CST
One more thing: An open letter to the person that stole the $3800 worth of beer in Lincoln today......Please bring it to the stadium and give it to the Sooner players before the game. I like the chances if Landry has to wonder which of the 16 receivers is actually there running around with 44 Husker defenders. The Sooner RBs falling when the see the 44 Husker defenders.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 3, 2009 4:17PM CST
I also heard that BRG's mom would be there....

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 3, 2009 4:20PM CST
Huskerzone, Doug Williams is from close to my home. When they won the Super Bowl, most of the team came down and they had a parade like the city of Zachary, La. had not seen before or since. Everybody who ever chunked a football was there.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 4:22PM CST
Busiekcreek:

Ha ha me too! Yea I was driving home the other night from work, and this black cat ran across the road right in front of my car like less than 100 meters from my house. I slammed on the brakes, backed up turned my car around and went all the way around my subdivision and came up to my house from the other side. As a matter of fact it was the night before the Baylor game... thank God I did that. lol

Jeez mayb these losses aren't the teams fault at all... mayb they are my fault?

Guys I take full responsibility of this years losses on my shoulders. Im sry guys. Poor planning and irresponsibility on my behalf has caused these losses. I assure you in the future i will be more careful

Posted by: Huskerzone on November 3, 2009 4:23PM CST
Big smiles Busiecreek. Seems like such a long time ago when the Skins were any good. I still believe that was a fumble in the Super Bowl when he slipped and twisted his knee. Of course, all that was BS (before Snyder).

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 3, 2009 4:26PM CST
Let me go before someone locks me up in this old haunted antebellum building I work in. Haints all over the place.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 3, 2009 4:27PM CST
Staubach has always been a personal hero of mine...didn't like the Cowboys at first and came to them during the Roger/Landry years and then deep sixed them when they brought in Jimmy. Having gone to Annapolis myself, my respect for Rog is even higher. He would come to homecoming games and be in the weight room on Saturday morning before the game.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 3, 2009 4:29PM CST
Busie...I saw Doug in the parking lot at a Navy base (he was working for Navy at the time) around 1992. He looked absoltely chiseled. Some serious shoulders on that guy.

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 3, 2009 4:30PM CST
Im truely a Green Bay fan, but growing up in the DFW area the Cowboys kind of grow on you. I want them to do well and I would say they are my #2 team now after the Packers.

Posted by: shamrocked on November 3, 2009 5:12PM CST
Have not seen a defensive front like ours? Hmmm, well there was the little matter of the Texas defense..............

Posted by: huskerdog/colo. on November 3, 2009 6:57PM CST
The beer is in the "DOG'S" dog house! Don't tell the Lincoln PO LICE! Jedi - you "stole my thunder" on the origin of the name Landry. I also have a "stache", but I ain't no porn star, darn it!!

Posted by: huskerdog/colo. on November 3, 2009 7:01PM CST
Silicon - The "DOG" was in Navy ROTC @ DONU. Not quite Annapolis - BUT CLOSE! LOL
