The day after: Husker bowl speculation
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 26, 2011 at 11:27AM CST
It's educated guesswork, but guesswork all the same, when it comes to projecting a team's bowl situation.

You can talk to bowl reps all you want but they're never going to give away much of substance when it comes to their backroom discussions.

But this is what we think we know based on the situation: We think, unless there are upsets, that Nebraska will get picked up by the Capital One Bowl or the Outback Bowl.

Both games are on Jan. 2. Both games would pit Nebraska against an SEC foe.

That said, there is a scenario that could bring Nebraska down to the Insight Bowl against a Big 12 Team. We'll get to that in a moment.

Capital One comes first in the pecking order. So what would have to happen for Nebraska to get picked for that game?

A few speculative thoughts on that:

*** It'd help Nebraska if Michigan won today. A Michigan win could very well put the Wolverines in a BCS bowl as an at-large team, taking them out of the bidding for the Capital One or Outback.

*** It'd help Nebraska if Wisconsin won today, then won next week against Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game. Obviously, if Wisconsin gets knocked off and doesn't make it to the Rose Bowl like many seem to assume it will, the Badgers could take up a Capital One or Outback slot.

*** Though probably not as critical as the first two points, it'd help Nebraska if Northwestern beat Michigan State today. There's already a belief out there that Nebraska would get picked over the Spartans for the Capital One Bowl if it came to a decision between the two programs. After all, Nebraska beat Michigan State head to head and the Spartans were in the Capital One last year. Not to mention the Spartans would be coming off a championship game loss in such a scenario, which sometimes scares bowl reps away from a team under the thinking that fan base might be too down in the dumps to travel.

So regardless of what Michigan State does today, Nebraska might still get the nod over the Spartans if MSU loses next week in Indy. Still, a Northwestern win would take some shine off Michigan State, and seem to definitely give Nebraska the edge if it came to bowl reps comparing the two.

*** Now where it gets interesting is if Michigan loses today and Wisconsin doesn't win the Big Ten.

Say, for example, Michigan State wins the Big Ten Championship game and goes to the Rose Bowl. And if Michigan's not picked up by a BCS bowl, it's possible that the Badgers and Wolverines could take up the Capital One-Outback slots, pushing Nebraska to the Insight against a Big 12 team.

Of course, you also have to remember that bowl reps don't pick just on teams' on-field resumes. They pick on what will offer them the most attractive game. In that regard, the fact that Nebraska is new to the Big Ten probably makes them enticing to bowl reps. And of course there's the Nebraska fan base's reputation for traveling.

Anyway, just a few things to chew on as you're watching the football today.

Enjoy the games.

I don't think we'll go to the Insight bowl regardless of what happens, I think the worst we do is the Outback, simply because of what you said at the end:

We are new, we travel well, we had a good season (in general) and that's pretty enticing to bowl reps.

Maybe I'll eat my words next week, but we'll see.

Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 26, 2011 11:48AM CST
I agree with you. I think the Insight is a longshot.

Oh, thanks, now I know who to root for. Well done Yoshi.

Posted by: Moun10dew on November 26, 2011 12:15PM CST
A friend of mine said last night it's really good shot that we are going to play Arkansas and that there was no way we are going to play any Big 12 schools in a bowl game.

Posted by: flimflamfan on November 26, 2011 12:37PM CST
Any team, from the SEC, will be a nice change of pace.
Could be a yearly thing, with the bowl affiliations.
Well, except for when the Huskers play in the "grand daddy."

Posted by: Dallas Husker on November 26, 2011 12:38PM CST
As Sip wrote, which ever bowl they play in, it will probably be background noise to most fans as they prepare to watch the BCS bowls. Good to send the seniors out with a home win though.

Posted by: "huskersRback" on November 26, 2011 1:15PM CST
So....if it's a Big 12 opponent...who might THAT be?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 26, 2011 1:40PM CST
Wow
The Ohio St, vs Michigan is a great game.

Two really good mobile QBs slugging it out.

PS Michigan just bobbled a punt!

Sheesh.

Posted by: The Old Scout on November 26, 2011 2:12PM CST
tOSU Michigan is a great game. Nebraska got lucky against tOSU. Their qb doesn't get hurt, could've ended diferently.

Anyway got some Big 12 type scoring in The Game.

I hate rooting for Michigan, but I would prefer playng an sec team in Florida.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on November 26, 2011 2:26PM CST
this big 10 game is fun to watch

Wow, what a game. yep a bowl game against a sec would give a nice lift to this end of season.

Posted by: The Old Scout on November 26, 2011 2:33PM CST
Nebraska gets SEC matchup most probably, hopefully. Michigan back to national relevance???

Posted by: Low Country Husker on November 26, 2011 2:36PM CST
Well here's hoping for a Carolina/Husker matchup! Would be alot of fun watching that game and talking about with all the coworkers!

PotherT,Trashman,Charger,Doc,and others, who are true Husker supporters. I think we should should take back our blog from the ones who are trying to ruin it.
My feeling is that we can't keep them from posting,so let them spout off. We will just not acknowledge any of their posts[which this one will get them fired up,lol].
Eventually they will know how insignifigant they are and we don't care what they have to say. They will still post or possibly leave and return under a new name.
The rest of us will discuss our Huskers the way we wanted to and the way it used to be,now of course this is just my opinion, but i will start. I will no longer achknowlege their negative posts,of which there will be plenty I am sure.
Hope you will join me in taking back controll of this blog. There are to many decent Husker fans on here, and there are many I missed, but they know who they are,Busie you.re a wonderful blogger and great fan of LSU and show respect to our team as well. So thats my idea ladies and gentlemen[of course with Trashman I use that term loosely, lol]

I am hoping for the Outback Bowl. Only an hour away and Raymond James stadium is pretty nice. I could make the Capital One too I guess but would have to stay over night. Not sure what stadium it is played in either. Either way it would be nice to see one live game this season.

Posted by: Ture Husker on November 26, 2011 2:54PM CST
You know that ape guy on commercials who says "I'm taking the bus and you will not see me at the pancake social tomorrow!" That's the image I have in my mind of Trash. Close?

VinceFo,

If you don't like reading certain peoples opinions skip over them.

Nobody appointed you the blog cops and we get your point of view. You are a Husker homer no matter what. We get it.

Others think while we did ok, we should be doing better in year four. If that upsets you so much, stick to reading your BFF's posts and have another glass of kool aid. Sheesh.

Posted by: Dallas Husker on November 26, 2011 3:07PM CST
no nothing,
You hit the nail on the head. Like last year, the team had control of their destiny, lost control and we'll have to hear next week about how the bowls "robbed" big red of something they should have had. Fans in loser denial make excuses and hate on bowl committees for "screwing" their team. Objective fans realize this is what their team gets for not taking advantage of the opportunities afforded them.

Posted by: Dallas Husker on November 26, 2011 3:12PM CST
Vincent,
I have every right to voice my opinion of the state of the program under the head coach as you do. Just because you disagree with some doesn't mean they should be banned on here. That type of thinking is childish. I will continue to criticize the head coach whenever I want to on here until he meets the expectations I feel are acceptable. There is nothing you can do about it. Such is life.

Well Viking, how do u think we feel. We beat the Gumps in reg. season. We play Georgia for the conf. champ. If we win, we play the Gumps again and they are not the conf. champs nor did they have to play in the conf. game. Go figure

Posted by: Viking Husker on November 26, 2011 3:55PM CST
Wow, Ms. Busie, I knew it wasn't fair to the LSU boys, but when you put it like that, it's downright criminal.

Now what happens if Georgia beats LSU? Don't think it'll happen, but this IS college football...

That's the thing I don't get about Conference championships. The loser is worse off than the teams that just barely didn't make it.

Nebraska/Missouri last year
Michigan/this years Big Ten loser

Conference Championship participant should only help your bowl prospects, not hurt them.

What would a blog be without trolls?
Boring!

It's always funny to go back and read the post on the game tread.

Every fumble, penalty or miscue results in several post calling for Bo to go.

With the news coming out of Ohio St. there should be no more rumors stating Bo will be a Buckeye someday, at least not in the near future.

Hopefully that will make Bo even more determined to beat tOSU.

I always wonder those who want Bo gone, who they think would be his replacement?
Who would want to?

Husker just beat Ohio St, Penn St and MSU plus a decent Washington program in the same season.
Not a bad first year in the Big 10.

Now lets go bowling......
A blow victory should get us in the top 15, and help with the recruiting.

Yep my glass is definitely half full.....not to be confused with being half empty.

Posted by: Viking Husker on November 26, 2011 4:22PM CST
Nish, I wouldn't worry to much about the squeaky wheels.

They are the loud minority.

I was talking to my Aunt, who is a snowbird here in Phoenix and Lincoln.

She was saying that nobody up in Nebraska really wants Bo gone, it's just the really impatient (her word was jerks) who were saying the same thing about Dr. Tom.

This bowl game is KEY for Pelini and the future of Nebraska football.

Despite this season's disappointing losses, questionable decisions and swirling discontent over mediocrity, Pelini is now in an excellent position to really do himself and his program some good.

Beating a strong SEC opponent (Arkansas, Georgia or South Carolina) would be a big boost.

* A win enables Nebraska to recruit against SEC schools with SOME Southeastern players.

* A win allows Nebraska to differentiate itself from the middling perception of Big Ten teams who have gotten trounced by the SEC teams in bowl games in recent years.

* Nebraska can rightfully position itself as the sleeping Big Ten giant, on the verge of returning to prominence (specifically, trounced the team that won its division, did what other B1G schools could not in bowl games).

A big loss, however, will be devastating, and makes it all the more uncertain whether the Nebraska program will return to national prominence under Pelini -- or anytime in the near future.

A big loss would give the doubters all the more ammunition (can't win against a real conference) to all the negatives that have already arisen about Nebraska and Pelini (can only win 9-10 games a season, can't beet the top dogs in the conference, undisciplined, gets outcoached, struggling in recruiting, lacking in talent).

A big loss would reinforce all of these perceptions in the national conversation about Nebraska.

This is the MOST IMPORTANT BOWL GAME to Nebraska football in at least 15 years.

PT I hadevery intention of returning[left my Husker cup with the red kool-aide there,lol\ but ended up way over on the west side of the stadium trying to find a ticket. An Iowa fan tried getting 299 dollars , told him Iwould wait, was looking like 100 was the cheapest, then about10:30 the Iowa fan couldn't sell his,so I offered him 60 and got it.
I was high enough I think to qualify for frequent flyer miles.lol., but was just below Tom's box,so with the win it was worth it.
I thought the defense played lights out and was hoping for a shut out. BO and Beck and all the coaches called a great game. Looking forward to whatever bowl game we get invited to.

A lot of talk about our youth this year. I took a look at the better BIG 10 Programs and here are the number of SENIORS on their Rosters:

NU - 21
Mich - 21
WI - 21
OSU - 20
Mich St - 19
NWU - 19
PSU - 18

Based only on graduating Seniors, there isn't much of a difference between Team's "youth".

Posted by: Dallas Husker on November 26, 2011 5:19PM CST
Nish,
We are facing the possibility of going to a lesser bowl game in Pelini's FOURTH YEAR than his FIRST. Had September's schedule not consisted mostly of the Community College Fighting Sweatbees, we'd be fortunate to even play in the .com furniture bowl.

Viking,
It's the squeaky wheels that get oiled. Hopefully the Ole Miss rumor has something to it and they can do us a favor by snatching Bo up.

Well busie tried rooting those Auburn Tigers on to victor, but it isn't looking good. One thing though as long as your Tigers take care of business they will be ok.
Viking do you have a bowl that you would like more than the others. I have a feeling that we will go to the Outback Bowl, but I guess we will find out Dec 3rd, unless they let it slip before then.

Posted by: HuskerinGeorgia on November 26, 2011 5:43PM CST
Word down here among the Georgia folks is that, assuming UGA loses to LSU next week (which is extremely likely) the reps from the Capitol One bowl in Orlando really really really want to see a Cornhusker vs. Bulldawg match-up. I think that would be one hell of a game. Two evenly matched teams with very different styles. I'm thinking Dawgs go into the game slight favorites.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 26, 2011 5:44PM CST
Don't sweat Vincent,

I probably don't post on here enough to be labeled a good poster or a bad poster.

I have been critical of Bo myself at times, but under the circumstance I think Bo is doing a decent job.

I think Bo's first year in the Big Ten can be considered a success.

It's not going to get any easier. It looks like Hoke has got Michigan back on track and I doubt Ohio St. will be down much longer.

Winning the Big 10 is going to take a special type of year and a very well coached program with some luck mixed in.
I believe Bo can do it.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 26, 2011 5:53PM CST
Well the Auburn Tigers didn't play with an angel on their shoulder.

As for this coaching carousel, the train hasn't pulled in yet as it is headed to the bowls. Bo is not going to Ole Miss. Surely he has more sense than that. Pass me another mint julep.

Trolls, what is the point? They could have T.O., Bear Bryant, and Vince Lombardi all coaching the same undefeated team and yet it would not be enough.

As for Bo, friends don't complain even though I still long for the fiery version. What if you had Bobby Petrino. He pointed at Les Miles yesterday said FU, the proceeded to call him a MF. Cameras caught it all. A don't touch me handshake. After the game Miles was asked "did you have words with Coach Petrino" Dead pan into the camera, he said "not many". I figure when he left goodbye notes in the Dirty Birds locker room, he had to be what hides under rocks.

observation on what is happening in college football. Saben, Miles, Meyer are head and shoulders above the rest, with Meyer now in the big ten it will either raise the level of the league or they will crush everyone. Alabama and LSU are at another level athletically..Its all about the recruiting! Based on his past performace OSU will be there in 2 years. Rise up huskers or be a speed bump on their road.

Posted by: RED KOOL-AID DRINKER on November 26, 2011 6:04PM CST
I saw that little exchage. Did Petrino think Miles was running up the score? I remember in 2003 when we lost to K-State and BO went out to Snyder and called him an A-ole, I guess they all do it[well not all],but it don't make it right

Why don't we just stay home? It would be safer that way. Who can we beat even at a neutral site? Martinez is now hobbled by his ankle sprain, again, to go with his lousy passing.

I think that we should dual it out, one on one, with Burkhead against their best player. Whoever wins out gets to record a team victory. With that scenario, we could be national champs rather than national chumps.

Vince,

What you're recommending is SOP toward trolls on all blogs and, in general, should be followed by everyone who wants a healthy exchange of opinions. Of course, not everyone agrees on who the trolls are.

But, even with those differences, we can decide which conversations are productive, and are free to only participate in those. Personally, I think a level of civility, including avoiding name-calling and other junior-high insults, would be a good minimum.

LJS could help by regularly weeding out the most obvious trolls, and then the rest of us can worry about how to express our differences, while still maintaining a civil blog.

MO, 15 years? What about the '02 (end of '01 season) Rose Bowl where they would have won the national title? I don't think the bowl game is any more important than those of the last few, but it is important to play someone good enough to punch us in the face if we don't prepare and play well. We do not have the OL, whether that is recruiting or development or in-game teaching to be a conference champion and I don't see that changing soon. More importantly we don't have chemistry between the offense and defense so they feed off each other (I'm thinking styles and strategy here), and we don't have, the same vein, the kind of offensive athletes to run the offense we want with the OL play we have. I am looking forward to an improvement over the effort we had last year, win or lose.

what a great way for this team to close out this regular season. i thought early this sept. we might have to consider scraping through to bowl exhibition eligibility ! now, we have 9 with a shot at 10 and can set this young ship's sails for '12 and beyond. with another month for this squad to develop, get stonger and hone in we should be able to compete with most anyone they put on the plate. what a great week for us. and THANK the tools at wiscy for POUNDING pedd state and ending their shot at the title.

mile,
It is the head coach's responsibility to recruit the athletes to have enough depth in the trenches, so injuries aren't the factor they were this season. This falls squarely on the head coach.

That is true Albino, and since ,I sometimes lose my patience with them,I have chosen to just ignore them. I am a true diehard fan,yes I have tunnel vision when it comes to my Huskers and ask PT or Trashman . I actually do drink the red kool-aide.I decideed that if someone has an intelligent comment or wants to engage in a conversation about the huskers I am there

Low Country Husker

You need to get a sense of humor for reading the comments of others. If you don't understand or like them, you won't be alone. That should be reassuring. But, be careful when making a prognosis. Sometimes, the cancer treatment can be as bad as the disease, or worse. And yes, I am looking forward to enjoying one more day, sometime soon.

Ray: I thought the game was very good. Both sides of the ball pulled together this time.

Onward and upwards to bigger and better things my friend.

Anyone else watching the Baylor vs TT game?

Wow that Robert Griffin III is the real deal.

Oh yeah and two sportsmen like conducted, one on the Baylor DC and one on Tommy T....
I guess the officiating is still the same in the Big 12....

Posted by: rev.redd on November 26, 2011 8:08PM CST
Nish...the game almost as entertaining as the commentary on this blog...lol. Yeah, I'm watching. Crazy end to the first half. And yes, RGIII is quite an athlete. How did he ever end up at Baylor? We sure could use a player like that!

Ray

Talking about prognosis---I got one 2 wks ago--Prostrate--- going for my first radiation this week --- the first of 39 trips.

Makes one think of the Big Red in a different way---don't care what the record is (as long as its 9 wins) ---Go Big Red.

Hope the Huskers make it to the Capital One Bowl---Many people here really want the Big Red & Fans!!!

Posted by: cstxfn on November 26, 2011 8:14PM CST
Nish... Speaking of Big XII officiating, there was a personal foul called against Texas A&M the other night in the A&M/Texas game that prolonged the 'horns game winning drive. It was a real heartbreaker for the Aggies, who perhaps may be thinking that there is indeed some "Longhorn magic". The foul was called against an Aggie player who ran past a Texas player and near as I can figure, created a strong enough breeze to warrant the flag.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 26, 2011 8:48PM CST
Have they said what's the injury on R. Griffin?

I suspect a concussion.

So A&M got jobbed by Big 12 Officials?
Must be the standard parting gift when one chooses to leave.

No more Texas vs A&M...how long has that been going on?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 26, 2011 8:50PM CST
If Griffin was a Husker he would be our best defensive back or a receiver, but I doubt he would play QB.

Nish,
At least aTm now knows how we felt in their house a year ago.

Posted by: rev.redd on November 26, 2011 8:59PM CST
We have quite a QB coming in next year in Tommy Armstrong. Runs and throws. But yeah, someone will probably discover that he can probably catch too...

Posted by: cstxfn on November 26, 2011 9:04PM CST
rev.... I'm hoping Armstrong is a big hit as a Husker. I was hoping the same thing for Cody Green. Armstrong seems to be similar in size.

Posted by: Dallas Husker on November 26, 2011 9:08PM CST
As far as Armstrong is concerned, if his legs are his biggest threat as opposed to his arm and passing skills, I'd rather he not come here.

Posted by: wacky4huskers on November 26, 2011 9:36PM CST
It will be good to get another Tommie as QB at DONU, maybe Armstrong will be as good for the Huskers as Frazier was.

I am a Boliever

I would pick Arkansas to play in a bowl.. I think we could defend them best.. team I would least like to see is S.Carolina, that is a good balanced team with a heady running QB.

Posted by: Robka on November 26, 2011 10:55PM CST
We should be able to land a better bowl than Penn St. because of the head 2 head edge and cloud surrounding that University.

This could b the time when teams are competing for the last of the 16 playoffs spots. Instead we r about 2 watch an all SEC two team playoff. Thanks BcS for holding back college football so u can have a bunch of back door $ deals. It's time to leave the NCAA & the BcS in the dust and transform our sport into the best on the planet.

blueprint; Top 16 teams determined by the current ranking system. Top 8 seeds get a first round home game (keeping the regular season important) after the home games the rest of the playoff games are played in current "BcS" bowl locations and you could add new bowls into the playoff (Cotton, etc.)

This system will allow the rest of the bowls 2 continue to exist as they are. The only difference would be the current BcS bowls WILL ALL be important games.

And please spare me the" regular season is a playoff" argument, because if that was the case then Alabama would have already lost their chance at a championship instead of likely getting a second chance to beat the same team. How funny would it b to have Georgia win the SEC and the 2nd & 3rd place conference teams play for the mythical National Championship? What a great system:(

GO BIG PLAYOFF!!!

If LSU has to play Alabama again they will lose. Of the 2 times Nebraska has been involved with playing teams 2 times in a season, we won the first game and lost the second. This year after losing to Washington in the bowl we played them early and beat them. So I don't care what people say, it's impossible for LSU to get to the right attitude and play them again. It just is'nt fair to LSU. In the back of their minds is that down feeling of beating someone and then in the SAME year having to do it all over again. It's too big of a factor. You might as well just hand the trophy to the Tide. The BCS has to pit them against someone else or the title game is a joke. I mean LSU AND ALABAMA has already been played. You don't get a second shot- PERIOD. Now for the Huskers, we just need a couple more OL and DL recruits and for everyone to concentrate this offseason to take just one more step up and I think we have a good shot and the Big Ten and possibly the National Championship next year. Were really not too far off. I think the most important guys to pick up are another good DT and DE.

Posted by: RED KOOL-AID DRINKER on November 27, 2011 12:58AM CST
Robka theres one problem with your plan. It makes sense and the NCAA and school presidents cannot wrap their collective minds around that. 9ts like the government and taxes, you simply tax everyone a flat 15%,no tax holes, nothing.Simple yet to hard to accept.
Every other sport has a playoff, but football,it would interfere with classes or finals, not enough time, even though we have all this free time in Dec. Nice try and thought though

Posted by: RED KOOL-AID DRINKER on November 27, 2011 1:02AM CST
There were sure a lot of blowout games today, a lot of teams in the top ten with 2 losses, doesn't make our 3 look to bad. Would have preferred less but will still take a winning season

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 27, 2011 1:21AM CST
Otto

That doesn't sound like much fun, but sometimes we must bite the bullet, and carry on. Hopefully, you are able to respond to the treatment without major side effects. Best of luck, and hopefully a bowl win, will brighten both of our days. Happy Holidays!

Martinez's lousy passing now has him ahead of Tommy Frazier in passing yardage.......and he is also ahead of him in completion percentage........sometimes we need to have perspective in our lives;)

Posted by: BigRedMachine on November 27, 2011 7:47AM CST
Well, A disappointing season. However, a reality check isn't necessarily a bad thing. Why are we so thin with talent/depth at so many positions? Sure hope for a strong recruiting class. Not getting my hopes up though. Next year will be more of the same. 9-3 sounds about right, maybe 8-4. Beck is like a true freshman, gonna take some time for the game to slow down a little for him. (Hey Beck, use your TE's, wide open down the middle of the field) Martinez isn't a QB. The loss of Dennard & David is huge. (Right behind Suh is David on my all-time favorite Blackshirts list) Sure hope we show up for the bowl game. I hate getting embarrassed on the big stage...

I agree with you 100% even though reality checks are taboo on this blog. In the Spring, we will hear again the bloggers expectations of a NC followed by the reality of another up and down season. I want that NC to happen in the worse way, but probably won't take place anytime soon. In view of our history, it is hard to be patient.

Posted by: BigRedMachine on November 27, 2011 10:15AM CST
Ray -- it is hard to be patient. Especially when coaches are saying one thing and displaying something very different. A friend of mine posed a thought provoking question to be the other night. If we don't lose two LB's before our first game last year, how long would Lavonte David had sat on the bench??? I hesitate to think honestly about that. Begs the question, what other talented players do we have sittin on the bench?? Turner comes to mind. Any others? How bout Carnes? How bout defense?

Posted by: RedderThanYou on November 27, 2011 11:06AM CST
name 10 schools that have won 9 games each of the last four years........got em?...ok..now STFU.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 27, 2011 11:49AM CST
BigRedMachine

To me, Martinez seems to be limited as a QB with game experience and straight ahead speed as his only fortes. He has no lateral movement, pocket presence, passing accuracy or ability to make tough yards after contact or even hang on to the ball. I would like to see Carnes or Turner given a shot.

Depth is such an issue except at RB that an injury at any key position seems to be curtains. I do like the running offense under Beck, which should only get better. And this should be the end of most of the Watson era recruits which don't fit into Bo's scheme of things. So maybe, Bo will recruit better athletes in greater quantity to make it all work to replace those of the Callahan/Watson lineage.

I would guess that if we can't produce a championship team in another 4 years that a coaching change would be in order, unless, we can learn to be satisfied with very good seasons and winning records, but not championships.

I always thought that Bo would be the guy to bring great success and continuity to the program. With the Ohio State job likely going to Urban Meyer, Bo has no other choice but to refocus and improve, wouldn't you think?

I guess that we have been so spoiled rotten with Devany, Osborne, and even Solich that this 10 drought of dominence from the last NC appearance has taken its toll. But, I still get tired of the constant over speculation of Husker fans each Spring, no matter how poor a product takes the field. And if you comment to that effect, then come the personal attacks on your Husker patriotism.

Next year will be a repeat of this year, as you say, but perhaps in more time, Bo and Beck will do the ultimate job providing the coaching staff stays intact like the good ole days. I hope that I am still alive to see that day come. But, I did see us make the CWS, and I wondered if that day would ever arrive, but it came and went like time itself.

Go Huskers! (Don't forget that NCAA volleyball selection is today at 5pm CST)

Lol -- awefullly sensitive...

Telling someone to STFU on a blog? isn't the purpose of blogs supposed to be a place to have an opinion, a point of view?
Maybe blogs are not for you.

Posted by: BigRedMachine on November 27, 2011 12:05PM CST
Ray -- very insightful & I agree. MArtinez is very limited. (I cringe when he runs, I cringe when he throws.) I do hope that Bo continues to improve with his coaching/recruiting. He is 'young & inexperienced'...lol As is most of his staff..
Through the last decade I have learned a lot. I love my Huskers, enough to be objective. Most 'Husker Fans' however, I find questionable at best.

Posted by: MercilessOne on November 27, 2011 1:33PM CST
Most Husker fans seem to have their heads dunked in a large punch bowl of BoBerry Kool-Aid.

Any true Husker fan wants Bo Pelini to succeed because we love our team.

But being thoughtful and reflective (thinking instead of just feeling) enough to realize that there are serious differences between the way these coaches are going about things and the way that coaches (unlike Pelini) who have consistently been in the Top 10 are doing things seems to make one a much better fan, in my opinion.

Supporting your team through thick and thin is one thing. We all do that. But calling out bad play, bad coaches, bad decisions is just as much a part of being a fan.

Pulling your head out of the Kool Aid bowl once in a while will make you a better, more objective fan.
