Heisman winners talk Suh
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 6, 2009 at 3:06PM CST

I tried to set the world record for most interviews with Heisman winners in a span of 30 minutes. Thanks to an appearance in Hastings last night by six Heisman guys (three Huskers and three Sooners), access was easy.

Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier, Eric Crouch, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White were signing autographs last night at Allen's Superstore in Hastings. And they will be doing so again today from 3:30 to 4:30 at NU's Wick Alumni Center in Lincoln (which is right next to the student union).

We'll have a lot more on those guys in a story in tomorrow's paper. But one of the things I asked them is if they'd be opposed to voting for a defensive tackle like Ndamukong Suh. Here's their answers:

OU’s Steve Owens: “No, certainly not. I’ve watched him play, I think, three times. ... He’s just overpowering. He’s an incredible football player, so my answer is: No, I’m not opposed to it. I’m certainly going to look at him. When you have a defensive lineman that’s that dominating that can do all the things he can do, he has to be a candidate for the Heisman, certainly.”

NU’s Mike Rozier: “Defensive guys are good, so are offensive linemen too. If it weren’t for those guys, I wouldn’t have gotten it. ... But they’re going to give it to a skilled player. It’s good to just be (in the running). I’m pretty sure (Suh) feels good that his name is just being announced in that running.”

OU’s Billy Sims: “I feel like it can go to a defensive guy. They finally voted for a sophomore guy with Tebow. First time. So anything can happen. That guy’s a great player for sure, without a doubt.”

NU’s Eric Crouch: “I think that as the voters have opened up their minds to freshmen and sophomores ... the voters are actually looking at different things. I think that you’ll see more defensive players get opportunities. But their team has to win too. They have to bring that element of winning to the table otherwise they probably won’t get that level of national recognition that they’re wanting.”

BAM!!!!! Go Big SUH

Posted by: HuskerzVA on November 6, 2009 3:10PM CST
The savior Tebow will win it.

Posted by: 4EverRed on November 6, 2009 3:10PM CST
It should go to whatever player is the most dominant regardless of what position they play.
Keep going Suh, you the man.

GBR!!!!!

Posted by: HuskerzVA on November 6, 2009 3:11PM CST
redtide - it should but it won't.

probably not, but things they are a changin, maybe not this year but sometime.

actually it is this one! http://www.hothuskers.com/index.php?page=videos§ion=view&vid_id=100053

Posted by: HuskerInExile on November 6, 2009 3:20PM CST
I can't see Suh getting to New York. Maybe if the team was doing better, but not on a team that has 3-4 losses.

Posted by: Exiled_in_VT on November 6, 2009 3:20PM CST
go vote for Suh for Heisman here.

You have to write in:
Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

The fan vote counts as an actual vote, which is better than when you vote in city/state/national elections and they run your ballot through the shredder.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on November 6, 2009 3:35PM CST
Thanks Exile. Everytime you put that link up I vote. Hope they are counting them all.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 6, 2009 3:50PM CST
I think that if Suh sacks Landry Jones 5 times, and Nebraska wins the game on national television, Suh will become a more serious candidate. There is really no outstanding offensive player in the country to dominate the attention. The key is winning the game.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on November 6, 2009 3:56PM CST
Exiled_in_VT. Everyone go to his link a few posts above this and vote for Suh. I did.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 3:57PM CST
There were so many posters predicting an Oklahoma win I had to get off that thread.

Nebraska Will Win

I'm not getting into "lines", "bookies", "style" just a heartfelt wish for it to be so. How in the world can you call yourself a fan and predict your team to lose. The second post I ever made (a couple of years ago) on LITR was about "The Little Engine That Could". I know our O line is in crisis and we are dinged up but I will always believe. How many of us would walk up to one of the Husker players tomorrow and say "you're gonna lose". Go Big Red and play your hearts out.

and while I'm at it: Geaux LSU, beat the Gumps

Posted by: Denver Bob on November 6, 2009 4:04PM CST
Busiecreek......

Well said. Whatever happens, somebody will be able to say "told you so" tomorrow night. I hope that I'm one of them.

Go Huskers.! Geaux Tigers (I don't like 'Bama much)!

Huskers 23-20
Tigers 17-10

Namaste

Posted by: PT Husker on November 6, 2009 4:09PM CST
Suh winning is an outside shot. Just to be considered is an honor for a DT. He is a lock for the Lombardi and Outland however. McCoy from OU wuld prolly be his closest competition there. Most draft boards have them both well up the list. I am suprised we have not heard more about him this week.

Posted by: blackshirt_retrievers on November 6, 2009 4:19PM CST
Hey PT- don't forget the Nagurski... Best defensive player.... I'd say right now all three are his to loose!

Posted by: TommyOC on November 6, 2009 4:27PM CST
It Nebraska was undefeated, or a one loss team, Suh would have a much better chance. Crouch called it right, your team has to win.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 6, 2009 4:33PM CST
I agree with Crouch - Suh's candidacy would have more of a chance if we were 8-0 or 7-1, instead of an underwheming 5-3.

I disagree with the trend, but in recent years the Heisman has gone to the best player on one of the best teams (White, Troy Smith, Leinart), not football's best player on a so-so team.

At least this current trend is better than two other trends we've seen:
1. Give it to the guy with the gaudiest passing stats (Toretta, Ware, Detmer)
2. Give it to the guy who we think we be the best NFL player (George), not the guy who deserves it (Frazier).

Posted by: PT Husker on November 6, 2009 4:34PM CST
For Awhile the stars were aligned for him if we had been winning as Tommy said. But then Tebow had a good game and the party was over for everybody. And I gotta say, he is deserving. No quit in him either. And as he goes, so goes Fla.

Posted by: Trashman on November 6, 2009 4:42PM CST
Nebraska would have to, at a very minimum, get to the Big 12 Championship for the nation to see. Then have a big game.....who knows.....

Clive at Five.

Posted by: Trashman on November 6, 2009 4:46PM CST
I'm going to specifically request a Lord Calvert on the rocks for PT for every FG kicked in the game at Clive at Five. Then GBRtexas will need earplugs.

Posted by: Robka on November 6, 2009 5:22PM CST
Tebow is the most over rated football player in the history of college football. If he played for sCUm we would all see how great he is. I think he is a very good athlete, but is not nearly the best at his own position let alone deserving 2 Heismans. If they give it to Tebow then what we all have suspected is true. The Heisman is nothing but a popularity contest.

GO BIG SUHHHHHH!!!

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:28PM CST
I think Colt McCoy will get it this year since the Horns are on fire.

I think Suh is just as deserving, though, w/o a doubt.

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:30PM CST
That's a very impressive lineup of former Huskers and Sooners there this weekend, it's amazing they got them all together.

Hope our S'kers show well tomorrow..

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 6, 2009 5:31PM CST
robka

if suh played for the gators, he would be just another d-line person. But in the sunbelt he could be a star.

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:33PM CST
the thing I have never gotten about Tebow is that the guy has run that same read option play up the gut for 4 years and seems nobody can to stop it...boggles the mind...Heisman should go to his O line.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 6, 2009 5:34PM CST
I too hope Colt gets it. It will be fun to see the gators and the horns.

course alabama might have a bit to say about it. I am hoping Miles has the boys ready to "roll that tide" back to the beach.

Posted by: Robka on November 6, 2009 5:35PM CST
If big Suh doesn't win it, I would vote for the Alabama RB, because he has carried his team this year. Texas Tech's back up QB (Sheffield)is better at his position than Mr. holy roller Te-Virgin.

GO BIG EYE GOUGERS THAT WEAR EYE SHIELDS SUCK!!!

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:36PM CST
Well, let's fantasize that Suh just goes crazy for the next 4 games and we win out, he gets a few pick 6's again, a bunch of sacks, forces fumbles, etc etc, then he jumps back into the mix...

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:38PM CST
Colt will get it, how can he not?

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 5:38PM CST
Tim Tebow is not the most over rated football player of all time. He is a leader, can run, pass, and is very down to earth despite the media circus around him. I vote for Suh every day on the fan vote; if it's not to be him, then go Tebow. SEC SEC SEC

Go Big Red

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:40PM CST
absolutely would love to see the LSU Tigs roll up the Tide!

Games in Bama so it will be tough...

Geaux Big Tigers!

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 5:43PM CST
Go ahead and bash the boy. If he played for those teams the snide remark fans come from, he'd be the greatest thing to ever hit earth. The old green eyed monster comes in all shapes and sizes. Go Tebow

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:43PM CST
yeabut, yeabut, the Gators have had documented offensive struggles this year and someone will prolly pick them off before it's over.

Horns, on the other hand, will go undefeated. Colt will get the Heisman, he nearly got it last year and now everything is leaning in his favor.

Posted by: Robka on November 6, 2009 5:46PM CST
Drivebyposter - Your a joke. Would you like to put your money where your mouth is? Big Suh will be the fist D lineman taken in the draft for a reason.

GO BIG SUH!!!

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 5:49PM CST
Bruno, good evening to you and thx for the support for tomorrow's game.

If it's not LSU in the NC, then let it be Florida and I do hope they stomp the Horns. Gets my dander up when folk start bashing Timmy T.

We shall see in January who flung the chunk

Go Big Red

are we really having a "my great football player is better than your great fotball player" contest.......c'mon Saturday 8 PM EST get here already LOL

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 5:51PM CST
Tebow aside, Robka, how you doing? Haven't seen you on here in a while. Never see an Abita commerical that I don't send one your way.

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:52PM CST
I dunno if I go for Tebow's whole 'missionary' schtick either. It's so cliche. The guy is an All American media darling, dating all American blond babe bombshells, in GQ mag, etc, gonna be a zillionaire in the League, yet he 'cares' about starving African kids. Yea, right...

Hence the sarcasm of my current avatar, it's meant for the Tim Tebows and Anglina Jolies of the world.

Posted by: rluben on November 6, 2009 5:54PM CST
Hey Busie you have to rename that avatar as .gif to make it animate when you saved it it saved as a .jpg file which won't animate on a webpage.

It will on your computer as a .jpg because your OS recognizes the frames, but a webpage will only animate a .gif file.

Got it?

Just change .jpg to .gif

Tech challenged one.

Posted by: bruNo on November 6, 2009 5:54PM CST
ha, your dander must be really up now since I so ttly bashed yer boy....woohoo!

anyway, I want anybody to beat the g@ydors and bama, I dont care who, and I like the way the LSU Tigs are coming on of late.

When TX plays Bama or G@ydors in the NC game, I'm all about the Horns that nite...for one nite only though...

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 5:55PM CST
Low, I got to spout off about something; you know Robka is my blogging friend. Passions/tempers are running high in my part of the land tonight. Tomorrow has been circled on the calendar since last year. Everybody is 'het up.

Go Big Red

Posted by: Robka on November 6, 2009 5:56PM CST
Hey Busie - I hope you are doing well? I have to disagree with you on that one, because if he didn't play for a top ten team all the skills you mentioned wouldn't matter one bit. The HEISMAN T is a PR hollow statue Ask Tommie Frazier about that one. He lost the Heisman to a RB that wasn't even the best RB in his own conference and lost head to head to Mr. Tim Biakabatuka. Plus no way am I jealous of Tim because I know how good sex feels:)

GO BIG PURPLE HAZE!!!

Posted by: rluben on November 6, 2009 5:56PM CST
Then after you rename it to .gif you'll have to re-up it to your profile.

GO BIG WEAK LEGS!!!

Posted by: rluben on November 6, 2009 6:09PM CST
I have my issues with Tebow being such a media darling, but I'm not going to dog anyone too hard that gives some of their time to try to make another person's day a little brighter.

How much impact does he really have on a child from a poor country? One can't really know, but for one brief moment those kids who have it about as rough as any human should have to endure, they get to forget how rough they've got it and feel like someone out there cares about them and that they are not forgotten.

One can't discount the power of putting a smile on a kids face and giving them hope for a better future.

So I'll give him some props for making an effort.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 6, 2009 6:15PM CST
Robka, your bad self; am so glad to know you have a fine and hearty sex life. TMI Save us Suzy, we don't cull anything on LITR. I really enjoyed Step's tale of the hs girl and the coach.

As for Tebow, why 3/4 of the women I work with have his GQ pictures as their desk tops and we're all Tiger fans. He is a pretty "thang".

As far as slowing down the Gumps, I've let it all go. It's going to be like curs in a ditch fight-always is.

Posted by: rluben on November 6, 2009 6:18PM CST
But just because he cares about others, doesn't get him the Heisman vote from me.

We could go look for the best Oragami expert in college football and prop him up for the Heisman if it was based on attributes off the field....or the best balloon animal maker...or the best hangman player...or the best etch a sketch artist...or the best break dancer...or

Posted by: PT Husker on November 6, 2009 6:19PM CST
If suh played for Mizzu what would we be saying about him? Tebow is a fine human being as well as a pretty good football player. Not his fault the media fawns over him.

Posted by: rluben on November 6, 2009 6:21PM CST
I no see no bling yet Busie.

Posted by: Robka on November 6, 2009 6:22PM CST
Rluben hey don't get me wrong. If the HT was given to the greatest humanitarian than Tebow wins it even in my book, but it is supposed to go to best college football player and in order to be the best CFP you should be the best at your position and I don't think he is the best QB. I pulled for Crouch to win because he was a Cornhusker, but the only reason he won the HT was because it was a down year and he had some big Heisman moments that year. Rozier and Rodgers were definitely more deserving of their awards.

GO BIG SUH!!

Just right click on the pic, then either choose properties and rename it .gif in place of the .jpg or choose rename in the right context menu and change it from there.

PT Sorry I am out of commish for the rest of this season. I went in for a simple knee scope last Wed and four days later I was in the emergency room with blood clots in my leg. I had a filter installed in my groin to prevent them from floating into my heart & lungs. I am on some serious blood thinners now and cannot get a bruise or cut right now. I feel like bubble boy right now and I am going to have to watch the rest of the games on TV while putting shots in my stomach. Win or lose Saturday I am staying positive and enjoying every minute of life.

rluben - 39 and I normally workout out (cardio & weights ) 5sday a week, my resting heart rate is in the 40's and I eat healthy, so I have learned that you never know what can happen at a given moment. Luckily the doctor said my heart is pumping like a 25 year old, so my efforts have not been in vain, but this whole thing scared the hell out of me.

Thanks for the good thoughts guys:)

Robka, bless your heart, take care friend. I, too, know what you are going through. One day at work, not a care in the world and the next my friends standing around me not thinking I would make it through the night. Cracked rib, punctured lung, internal bleeding, kidneys trying to shut down. Was in the hospital 2+ months. Had to learn to walk again. I've been a changed person ever since. Take nothing for granted any more. Went back to work and am going strong although stairs and long walks just about do me in. I will keep you in my prayers friend.

I need to start working out again and playing some basketball or raquetball. I've put on about 15 -20 lbs in the last couple of months with all this sitting around not working a physical job like I'm used to.

we need Kansas St. to lose to kansas, iowa st. to lose to ok. st. , a win by us tomorrow will be awesome and will greatly help us gain a berth in the big 12 CG.
i think suh and crick will give oklahoma FITS tomorrow as they will be "blocked" by 2 freshman and a former backup tight end/fullback... advantage NU ! constant interior line pressure will force Jones to throw when he don't want to and will keep OU's offense at least in check with quick slants, swing passes etc. where we can make the tackles and get punts... if not force many turnovers(especially if they can get their hands in the air to deflect some balls).
getting some picks will give our offense a short field and should we be able to do ANYTHING we can at least get field goals. K st. ran the option quite well against OU's defense with a less talented QB and RB than we have so hopefully we utilize that and unleash Green's running ability and get Helu back into form !

I think it is now working rluben. Let me see here

rluben start slow and stick with my friend. Most people stop because they start to fast and get frustrated. Too sore etc. Right now I wish I had a little more fat around my stomach, because these shots hurt like hell without that cushion:)

OWH had a very good interview with TO concerning playing Freshman quarterbacks. He said Freshman QB's needs to have lots of confidence in their abilility. Another nugget, he said if a Freshman can't get it done in practice, then you have no reason to believe he can get it done in a game. He said Gill came to him when he was a Freshman and said he was not ready to play. Steve Taylor got a lot of playing time as a Freshman but did not start. Of course Frazier started in his 6th game.

He did say that it helped Green to come in to Lincoln in Janurary, and gave him a head start. I would guess Green is very confident, and from his interviews he displays that confidence though he is humble.

Cool, ya got the bling bling going Busie.

Yeah Robka, I've been down this road before, but not at 42, so it'll be a little harder.

My jobs kinda physical, running up n down ladders all day or rolling a vaulted ceiling out with a but 20' pole off a step ladder with an 18" 3/4" nap roller or sanding millwork all day or carpentry stuff or backrolling new construction homes keeping up with someone spraying with the gun wide open as fast as we can go...but this sitting around for awhile and it's not long before you get outa shape.

Me n my guys would always have races carrying a fully extended up in the air 32' ladder, sometimes a 40' on a sprint around the house a lap or 2.

Loser bought the beer lol.

Gentlemen,
Those who can’t understand how a solider can take the live another solider, although it seems unfathomable, it does not surprise me with what today’s solider have been exposed to in war that is no longer considered a war. What is going on in Iraqi and Afghanistan can not be measure in worlds. The average combat soldier mental capacity will start to break down after 30 days of combat. Today’s soldiers are exposed to 30, 60 and even 90 days of continuous combat stress. This type of combat stress has not been experienced since the days of Vietnam. Today’s career soldiers not only have to complete one tour, but have been task to go into a combat environment over and over, some have rotated into country 4,5 and even 6 times. The Fort Hood incident I fear will not be the last. When these Vets reach their 40s and older they will be dealing with post Posttraumatic stress disorder that has never been experienced in the history of Americans serving in a War time situation in the modern day society. I do not know the particulars that caused this soldier to react or take the actions he did. I’m sure there are a thousand incidents that led to his break down and destructive actions. It is tragic. Anyone who says anything negative regarding this tragic incident is as cruel as the actions that resulted in services men losing their lives. The families that have to go to sleep to night with out their love ones, I will pray for them and any one that wears the uniform.

This is a good thread to point something out about the heisman.

Suh is a perfect example of how a dominant player makes other players look better. There is no question that Crick is an excellent player. However there is also little doubt that it is in large part due to Suh being double teamed that Crick has been able to accomplish some of what he has accomplished.

Anyone who has watched the games can clearly see the dominance of Suh and the impact to the entire defensive unit.

Last year Suh became much better than he had the year before. His presence and leadership made the entire defense better.

This year Suh has clearly risen to an entirely new level. The defensive unit has risen right with him. In short, as Suh goes so goes our defense. He makes everyone on the defensive side of the ball better. Period.

As we have clearly seen this year it takes offensive production to win games. Very seldom can a defense win a game without offensive production. It just does not and can not happen on a consistent basis.

The heisman trophy is supposed to go to the "best" college football player. That is the entire reason behind the award.

What we have seen time and time again is the award going to the "so called" best offensive player. This is decided by a number of different factors. Total wins. Yardage gained. Etc, etc.

While there is no question that the "best" college football player makes his team better it is equally evident that such a player's impact is limited to their "side" of the ball.

It would be ludicrous to think that Tim Tebow is going to impact how the defense plays on their side of the ball. Likewise it would be just as ludicrous to expect Suh's outstanding play to drastically impact the Huskers ability to score on offense.

I would argue that Suh's play this year and thus his impact to his side of the ball has been equal to or greater than the impact of any other player in college football this year.

If the heisman is truely meant to be awarded to the "best" college football player then the voters must put aside their prejudice when casting their vote.

Otherwise, the award is nothing more than an award for the "best" offensive player in college football that just so happens to be on one of the most talented offensive units.

I say that the voters either vote fairly and honestly for what the award represents or the stated purpose of the award should be altered to reflect its' true significance.

In no other year can I recall one person having made such a dominating contribution to his side of the ball.

The charade has been going on far too long and today is as good a day as any for it to stop.

May the heisman trophy be awarded to its' rightfull owner...may it go to the best player in college football (on either side of the ball).

I'm really struggling with this game. Everything in me is saying we don't have a chance. Everyone is saying a close NU win or an OU blowout. Maybe a close OU win???? I hope not, but our offense scares the crap outta me. Gonna need at least one defensive score; maybe at least set up for two minimum.

This was a dark hearted premeditated murder using religion as his battle cry. He was a scum bag religious hypocrite and a coward. That's a nicely written piece, but we really have to win more to make it viable for Suh. No one justifies a "best college football player" trophy to a player on an average football team. He's supposed to be the difference maker to take the team to another level. I don't know if that's right in this case or many before it, but it makes sense.

Look at the NFL, you'll never see the league MVP go to a player on a 9-7 team. Get to the Big 12 Championship Huskers, then he could have a very small chance on a big stage.....

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 6, 2009 10:30PM CST
Trashman,

You are making my point. No defensive player can impact the offensive side of the ball to such a degree as to make them score points. No points, no win.

As it stands, no defensive player will ever win the heisman unless he happens to play on a team with an outstanding offense.

This is the equivalent of saying that no defensive play can possibly be the "best" player in college football.

This is just flat out not true.

Suh is the best player in college football and will be the number one draft pick in the NFL. This is certainly not because he is the third or fifth or tenth best player.

It is an injustice to the entire game.

The heisman has consistently been awarded to the person achieving the highest statistics on one of the best offensive units in college football.

That is a far cry from representing its' stated purpose.

The heisman does not go to the best player in college football.

I disagree slightly, and I hate to get too technical.

But Charles Woodson won the Heisman in 1997 with a pretty good offense including Brian Griese, Tai Streets, Anthony Thomas and Steve Hutchinson. None are standouts, but all played in the NFL extensively and a couple still do (including Woodson). That team split the Nat'l Title with us. We won't be near that level to get Suh the notariety he deserves.

I'm really not trying to be negative or the devil's advocate, because your argument is valid. But I think the voters have kind of gotten away from giving it to the smaller chance guys like a Detmer or Ware or Flutie.

There's just no market for that in the grand scheme of tv entertainment and money. And IMO the voters are encouraged to move away from those types of votes (Suh), but who knows for sure?

Bottom line is NU needs to win big games and get it's own recognition rather than look for it in awards for individual performances.

All I can say is that Suh is the best player in college football. He will be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. All of America will hear "SUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHH" for many Sundays to come.

And lastly, he will not have won the award that is purported to go to the best player in college football.

Actually, it will be quite funny in the future when they speak about Suh, who will also be dominating in the NFL, and talk about how someone that no one remembers won the award for the best player in college football.

I think you're right on the Suh will be the best player, which goes back to your "Heisman Fluke award Deal". But if that's the case, why would you want him to win it? Look at this list:

1994-Rashaan Salaam
1995-Eddie George
1996-Danny Wuerffel
1997-Charles Woodson
1998-Rickey "Tree" Williams
1999-Ron Dayne
2000-Chris Weinke
2001-Eric Crouch
2002-Carson Palmer
2003-Jason White
2004-Matt Leinart
2005-Reggie Bush
2006-Troy Smith
2007-Tim Tebow
2008-Sam Bradford

Do you really want Suh on this "jinx" list? Other than Palmer, Woodson and maybe a soon NFLer Bradford who looks that good now? Just basing it on "Sundays to come".

Trash - my biggest complaint about the how people justify their Heisman choice is looking not at their collegiate accomplishments, but at their NFL potential.

Who cares if Charlie Ward goes to the NBA, Ron Dayne is a pro bust, and certain NU QBs don't transition to the pro game? That's no reason to deny the impact they had in their Heisman seasons.

Give the award to the best player in college football. Period. Even if he does nothing else with the rest of his life.

I really don't know what it is a list of other than "players who won the Heisman" in the last 15 years or so. Should they have been drafted, I don't know.

In my estimation, 9/15 should of been drafted (no Wuerrfel, Dayne, Weinke, Crouch, White, or Smith). Weinke was borderline, but an old fart coming outta college so big strike in my book.

The fact is that too many voters get caught up in stats and big names; and little guys have failed too often in the NFL to make that argument valid. I think of talk of Glen Dorsey for Heisman, Tommie Harris, The Boz....those results after not winning it will unfortunately be bad for Suh.

I completely agree. I guess I'm being the advocate I said I didn't want to be. But we have got to prove we are a better team with Suh. Saying "well, we'd be 3-5 without him" isn't gonna cut it. Has to be more like 10-3 and just missed the BCS Bowls with lack of a better offense. Now that may have some leverage.....

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 6, 2009 11:43PM CST
Thats fine,
Turns out I know John,
Suh can't be blamed for the team he has played on. The defense is lights out. The offense is well, you know suks. Suh can really help us in recruiting and with the development of Crick it proves the system is working, at least on defense.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 6, 2009 11:45PM CST
This team will be good in about 2 to 3 years. I believe that. I think the Heisman talk for Suh is silly. All it is Pub for the Husker, whether it is good or bad, it has to help with recruiting.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:07AM CST
Nish......do the Huskers have a game tomorrow?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:10AM CST
Silicon,
Your kidding right?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:14AM CST
Silicon,
Hows it going? If your refering to the post above, what can I say. Turns out Nebraska is a smaller word the most think. I don't know how much more Husker football one can talk about at present. Who should start at QB? Should Wats stay or go? Should Suh win the Heiseman? Should Tom come back to coach blah blah blah. One think I have learned about being around Husker fans, if you talk to one one enough they will know someboy that knows sombody that you know. So be it. GO BIG WHACK THAT MOLE!!

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:15AM CST
thought they might have a bye week....big game this week is Navy - Notre Dame I think

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:17AM CST
I have been looking for you and Cali for our late night chat? (looking at watch) your late.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:17AM CST
It was interesting reading back through.... the Ft. Hood thing has been on my mind today. Have coworkers who are West Pointers.

Too many good games tomorrow, I'm afraid I will get absolutely nothing done.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:19AM CST
I'm afraid the Ft. Hood incident won't be the last. Todays Soliders are under alot of stress. I hope I'm wrong

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:21AM CST
Nish...my town in ND is about 15,000. My sister was living in San Diego and met a guy from Conneticut.... He said, "A friend of mine lives in DC and is married to a woman from ND..she's in medical records." My sister says, "Oh, you must mean Sally Sue Smith (not real name". He was astounded and then mentioned that he knew someone from his hometown getting married to a Dakotan whose family was in banking..my sister said, "Oh, you must mean Tommy Thompson." Both families lived within a mile from us.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:22AM CST
Silicon,
I'm out big day tomorrow. GF and I are headed on a bike trip to Death Valley, first time for both of us. Few of my co-workers are doing the trip. Good thing it is a late night game I should be back in time to watch it. Although I am afraid of the outcome. I hope the Husker make a game of it.

PS CaliHuskergirl was asking about you last night
I guess your the unofficail baker? The topic of Avatars came up as well.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:24AM CST
yeah.....the Major had been in for 20 years, prior to 9/11. I have to think that being a Muslim in the military subjects you to a lot of difficult attitudes...not making excuses for him. You just wonder how things get that desperate.

On an unrelated note, I see Josh Freeman is starting for Tampa on Sunday

Hey add me as a friend, or not, no biggie. Maybe see you on here tomorrow night. Thank the good lord above you can lay your head on your pillow in your bed tonight. There are a few service men who can not and family members that will never be able to kiss their love one good night. Take care. Peace!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:36AM CST
BruNo,
Actually know I prefer Iron Man, but the Avatar site i have selected the few for here is very limited. I'm to cheep to pay for any so this is the best I could find. I have one of GW giving the bird, but all the talk about FT Hood I figure it wasnt approriate

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:39AM CST
Nish...where is the site? Been looking for an avatar or two

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 12:40AM CST
Iron man is da shiznit, love that stuff, have it in blue ray...whens the sequel?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:41AM CST
http://www.gifworks.com/
http://www.entity.cc/ICONS/avatar-animated.php

Gifworks I think BruNo told me about it.
If is helpful becasue you will have to resize your avatar in order for it to work here. That is if you want to use a animated one.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:44AM CST
I don't know. Was a Iron Man fan from way back. Downey JR. hit the role out of the Park. I looking forward to SHIELD to. Fantastic Four wasn't bad.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 12:47AM CST
I thought Transformers was excellent too...I love that CG stuff in HD...

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 7, 2009 12:50AM CST
hm haven't step into HD yet. Think I might splurge this year and get a HD TV. Not a big Techno person. I live that up to you Bruno. Someday you will have to school me on that.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 12:51AM CST
have had HD for about 4-5 years now, cant live w/o it..blue ray is cool, but you have to keep updating the software for it..

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:52AM CST
Cody Green was in Transformers?

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 12:53AM CST
i knew somebody was gonna say that...CGI I meant..;)

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 7, 2009 12:55AM CST
Had HD for almost 2 years....awesome for sports

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 12:57AM CST
yea, if you run an HDMI cable for it, it's the best..

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 1:00AM CST
now they have those LED screens for HD, they say they are better but I dunno. AQUOS has a whole new thing going which is pretty impressive..an upgrade in resolution.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 1:05AM CST
well, guess I'll call it a nite...

latrz nish and sil, c yaz 2morrow...

nite...testing a post with an avatar loaded.

Eric Crouch is right. It's just a matter of time before a defensive player wins it, but he'll have to be the dominate player on a national championship contender – or at least a top 8 or so team. And it will also have to come in a year when there are no 2,000 year rushers and no record breaking quarterbacks.

Mr. Suh is the best college football player I've seen this year. He's the best defensive lineman I've seen in 37 years. He won't win the Heisman – and probably won't make it to New York – but being the number 1 overall draft pick ain't a bad consolation prize.

By the way, I voted for him and I hope everyone else does too. For those of you who missed the link posted earlier, it's
http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/theheismanvote/2009/
He's still leading. Let's keep him there.

Step- Funny stuff!! Reminds me of Jack Nicholas in "The Departed" Walking through the bar he says
"Who let this IRA MF'er in my bar? Just kiddin, hows your mother?"
"Oh she's on her way out..."
"We all are... Act accordingly!"
Good stuff but really robka, I hope you get to feelin better...

Colonel are you showing up today? Or are you a fairweather officer?

Posted by: taco on November 7, 2009 8:11AM CST
green to be starting QB today....GO BIG WE CAN DO IT

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 8:58AM CST
Yea, we can do it, but it will take a great effort for 4 qtrs and more than our share of breaks.

KU/KSU is 1st on the docket today, guess we want KU to win to help our cause in the north..

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:15AM CST
I suspect that KSU will beat KU handily today.

Coaching matters a great deal.

Whether you like KSU or not, Snyder is a great coach.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:20AM CST
hmmm, I actually think KU has the better team and something to prove about now.

Snyder's doing a good job down there though, that Daniel Thomas is an excellent RB for KSU and Brandon Banks is a legit big play threat, but I like KU in that one.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:23AM CST
Since when is the 8p ABC game a regional affair? I'm stuck with UConn/Cinci on HD but thankfully can see Big Red on Gameplan ESPN--not HD though :(...

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:29AM CST
bruNo,

At least you get to watch the game. That Versus thing and directTV is a bit irritating.

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:32AM CST
bruNo,

One other thing. I think that KU has the better players. I think that KSU has the better team.

We will see. If I am right, and I am, I will not rub it in. :)

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:32AM CST
Versus is good here on Time/Warner, HD and all ;).

Another gripe I have though is that there was virtually no lead coverage of our game today w OU, on EPSN, College FB Live...NADA! And the game is on ABC!

wow!

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:35AM CST
When the day comes, and it will, that we are a powerhouse again our staff and players should decline interviews/conversation with ESPN/ABC.

See how that flys.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:36AM CST
I think KU is just as well, if not a better coached and overall team right now. They have seasoned vets @ skilled positions and that frosh Opurum RB is very good, way better than Jake Sharp who I think should be on a MAC team or something.

I like KU...

Need Pokes to take out ISU and aTm to take down Puffs, no tall order in either. Actually looks like a South beatdown of North teams overall today. Maybe Big Red can give OU a game, minimally that's all I ask.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:39AM CST
just cant believe they didnt even mention the OU/NU game on College Live, I mean, they usually at least note the tradition of the game...

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:40AM CST
I honestly don't care who wins tonights game. I always want the Huskers to win but I am really looking for a good game.

We have everything we need to play and play well. I am hoping to see everything come together for the team tonight.

Winning will take care of itself.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:42AM CST
yea, just want to see a good game, not an embarrassment...a "W" would be sweet icing on the cake.

;)

Pretty stoked for that LSU Bama game and PSU/tOSU...should b good...

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:42AM CST
They obviously have their own agenda. That agenda is in direct conflict with our agenda.

I would not soon forget their efforts to minimize our program.

Gotta go, later.

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 7, 2009 9:45AM CST
I'll take Bama ( sorry Busiekcreek ).

PSU/tOSU I would have to say is a tossup and would favor the home team by 1/2 point.

Posted by: bruNo on November 7, 2009 9:47AM CST
Penn St. I like.

Bama is nasty, but it's time for LSU to rise up! They have the flashier talent fo' sho'.

Posted by: no nothing on November 7, 2009 10:28AM CST
Not a lot of excitement so far about this game in downtown Lincoln. The scalpers are out and they look like the Maytag repairmen standing on each corner with no customers yet. The skies are clear today and the wind is blowing fairly hard right now. Hopefully, by game time it will be like the indoor practice facility.

Well, this is the NU and OU game today. This used to be the determining game that decided who was going to a major bowl or maybe even the NC game. Today's game is only about pride and who wants it the most. The next three may have an impact on the North. We need all three of them to get there. I hope they are focused on this game tonight and not looking at next week. It would be nice to get a conference game win at home. Good Luck Huskers.

LJS. It is Game Day. Nothing at all?
GBR

Posted by: Trashman on November 7, 2009 10:44AM CST
I would say KU over KSU. Bookies want the money going toward KSU since they hung around OU. TT stomped KU. Always think the opposite in games like these.

Posted by: Trashman on November 7, 2009 10:46AM CST
The LJS Staff is preparing for the big 5 o'clock party. Heard it's shots of tequila for Sipple, Jaegerbombs for BC!

Posted by: TomOs on November 7, 2009 10:54AM CST
I would pick K St over KU.. they come into the game with more big MO.. just a hunch.. KU looks a little disorganized.. close game K St by 4...

Posted by: TomOs on November 7, 2009 10:56AM CST
Talk about an inept O.. Bama .. has 1 Offensive TD in last 10 quarters... sounds fimilar..
