Heisman ballot
Posted by: Steve Sipple on December 7, 2009 at 11:47AM CST

Just turned it in.

My vote was: 1. Suh; 2. McCoy; 3. Ingram.

Going into last week, I had McCoy ahead of Suh. I think it's pretty obvious why I changed.

SUH-BAM

Posted by: rluben on December 7, 2009 11:52AM CST
Good call Sip, I think he'll at least get invited to NY, maybe even a decent amount of first place votes to finish 3rd in the voting after Saturday's performance.

Saw mark May who rarely agree with say he thought Suh was the best College D lineman he's since in 25 years and the best since Reggie White.

That's some serious high praise and good company.

Here's a good article on why he deserves it but won't get it:

lube,

How are you? Hope things are great for you. Tough loss.....With just a little bit of O

Posted by: JasonMason on December 7, 2009 11:59AM CST
And also how many voters are there?

Posted by: 4BigRed on December 7, 2009 11:59AM CST
Good job, Sip. My only change would be Gerhart instead of Ingram based only on their importance to their team. Bama has some other playmakers as witnessed in the Championship game.

Sipp the redshirt question is a good one. Can you detail them please.

note.

I will need to keept the radio on low when Tony comes on today

On ESPN.com, Pat Forde announced his Heisman ballot.

I'll give you a hint as to his #1 choice: his name begins with an "N" and ends with a "damukong Suh."

I keep hearing people on espn and other places saying Ingram will win it but Suh should win it. If Suh should win it, why bother voting Ingram if thats what you think? Good luck Mr. Suh!! Hope to see you in NY...

Posted by: RyanSh on December 7, 2009 12:07PM CST
1. Suh
2. Gerhart
3. Suh

McCoy is a great QB, but this is not a lifetime (or college career) achievement award as Mack has tried to push. In my worst soutern accent, "I think I read this is his 14th 4th qrt comeback". His numbers are good enough (so are Ingrams) and 13-0 is helpful, but Keenum and Hall both have similar numbers if this is an individual award.
Frankly, I think some of the WR numbers this year are impressive.
What Gerhart did for Stanford (26 TDs!) is similar to what Suh did for Nebraska.

Posted by: Coughunter on December 7, 2009 12:11PM CST
wow, no gerhart sipp??? I guess they give ballots to anyone these days.

Posted by: drivebyposter on December 7, 2009 12:12PM CST
sipp you are such a big 12 homer

Posted by: Guido on December 7, 2009 12:13PM CST
Ivan Maisel said he voted: 1. Gerhart, 2. Ingram, 3. Suh

Posted by: HuskerzRock on December 7, 2009 12:15PM CST
If I had a vote it'd be

1. Suh
2. Gerhart
3. Ingram

Sip. When do we hear the list of invitees to NY?

Posted by: fleaflicker on December 7, 2009 12:17PM CST
Good job Sip.....there's no doubt that Suh is by far the best choice. I think you could put Suh on any team and he would show to be the most valuable player to that team. Do the same to the remaining finalist of the Heisman and I'm not so sure.....I can't see Colt being a Heisman dude playing for anyother team in the B12.

If I had a vote

it would be

PT
LCH
bussie

I've never seen a Defensive linemen embarrass so many O lineman as i have seen from Suh. Unbelievable. That guy deserves a trip to New York City.

Posted by: eddie too on December 7, 2009 12:24PM CST
My ballot would read, 1) Suh; 2) Suh; 3) Suh.

All of the running backs and all of the qbs are nothing without the offensive line supporting them. Their stats depend on the offensive line.

While the back seven have a lot to do with sacks and hurries, Suh dominated his position like no other player in college football this year. No team ran successfully again NU. Again, no football player succeeds without help from his teammates, but Suh has stood out throughout the season.

The running backs mentioned are all great players, but their stats are definitely comparable. None of them are THE dominant running back. The same can be said for the qbs of college football this year.

Who among defensive players can you legitmately compare to Suh for his impact on the nebraska defense?

dbp,

You have to know the definitive source of blogger star rankings (and the blogger Heisman) is ExiledInVT.com.

The blogger Heisman will be announced 2 weeks from today, Dec. 14.

Posted by: Robka on December 7, 2009 12:25PM CST
SIP After that performance McCoy should be left off the ballot. Toby Geirhart deserved his spot.

GO BIG SUH!!!

Posted by: Sam G. on December 7, 2009 12:26PM CST
McCoy shouldn't even be in the top 3, what are you talking about?

Maybe something like:

1. Suh
2. Gerhardt
3. Ingram

Posted by: Robka on December 7, 2009 12:28PM CST
Exiled back 2 your horsecoller comment. If we are going to have this foul then it should be reviewable or we need to make all tackles above the arm pits illegal. How is grabbing the shoulder or top of the jersey different than the collar? The type of injury TO had could have happened from either of those type of tackles. This is a contact sport and I sick of turning it into 2 hand touch.

GO BIG OLD SCHOOL!!!

Posted by: Exiled_in_VT on December 7, 2009 12:30PM CST
Robka,

I just posted on the old blog, but in rugby tackling above the shoulders is illegal, as is tackling while making no attempt to wrap up.
Those rules make it a safer game.

Football officials (rules committees?) need to decide what type of sport to make football. Right now we're stuck in a no-man's land where any hit could get flagged for a penalty and there's not much the defender could do to avoid it.

Posted by: Robka on December 7, 2009 12:37PM CST
Their turning the sport into tackling a torso only act. I don't like it, but if your going to do the SAFEST THING then that's what it should be. This horsecoller crap is 2 often called incorrectly.

GO BIG FLAG FOOTBALL!!!

Posted by: HuskerInCO on December 7, 2009 12:38PM CST
I just hope there are about 500 more 1st place votes for Suh.

Posted by: MercilessOne on December 7, 2009 12:48PM CST
I think it should be:

1. Suh
2. Gerhart
3. McCoy

Ingram is not even the best player on HIS OWN TEAM.

Posted by: TomOs on December 7, 2009 1:00PM CST
Suh is not only the best D lineman. He is also our best contributor on our Offense...

Posted by: Viking Husker on December 7, 2009 1:53PM CST
1. Suh
2. Gerhart
3. Tate (yes Golden. ND sucks, but he was amazing)

Posted by: Father of future Husker on December 7, 2009 2:04PM CST
I've read the horse collar rule and that is no horse collar.

The actual rule states (paraphrasing) that you have to take him all the way to the ground and complete the tackle by the back of the shoulder pads or the collar of the jersey. However, (and this is the good part) if you grab him by the collar and don't take him all the way to the ground, then it's NOT a horse collar. Didn't the tackler ( I forget who it was) let go of the Texas player before he hit the ground and actually another Husker finished the tackle???

Bad call in my book.

Posted by: Robka on December 7, 2009 2:37PM CST
Fatherofh - Wow nice rule book call. I didn't know that factored into it.

GO BIG 12 SUCKS!!!

Hey driveby,

I'm good, yeah just a tad bit of O woulda been sweet for sure.

2010 will be alot of fun if they get even just a few things fixed on O. Heck it will be alot of fun even if they don't, just not as much fun as it could be.
