Heard's status
Posted by: Brian Rosenthal on October 4, 2011 at 11:40AM CST
Bo Pelini said on Tuesday's Big Ten conference call that freshman running back Braylon Heard is questionable for Saturday's game with Ohio State.

Heard has an infection in his leg, and has swelling that must go down before he's able to return, Pelini said.

Heard did not travel to Wisconsin.

Wow! Too bad. He's a great player.

You "heard" it here, first!

Posted by: 4BigRed on October 4, 2011 11:46AM CST
He's been running hard. Would hate to lose him for any extended period.

Posted by: BigRedinKC02 on October 4, 2011 11:49AM CST
Still baffled as to why Ameer and Green didn't get any touches, except for Ameer's sweep that was called back. The badger fans next to me at the game were asking where our youth was a RB that they read about. I didn't have an answer for them.

Posted by: bigcajunhusker on October 4, 2011 11:52AM CST
No biggie at this stage -- he has plenty of time to heal.

He wouldn't have gotten any touches anyway ....

(ouch!)

Posted by: DocHuckleberry on October 4, 2011 12:15PM CST
Too bad. I bet he was looking forward to playing against his home state team. Heal fast.

Posted by: rluben on October 4, 2011 12:17PM CST
How many Touches did Rex get?

We had 3 drives that lasted less than a min and a few others than were short one's.

Once Taylor learns Rex is his friend and gets him the ball when he's open in the flats or on a flare and what not and learns to suck the defender to himself then pitch to Rex on the option more than once every other game Then he can move on to the next level of development as college QB.

Posted by: Jumbo Stiehm on October 4, 2011 12:17PM CST
Hope he is ok,the kid is ALOT better than I thought he would be after missing football last year waiting to qualify,I was wrong(again). Also inspite of travis Lewis being a d-bag piece of garbage I will still be rooting for OU this week, and I would state my usual message swapping the first letters of Texas and the f-bomb but some little cry baby p.o.s. turned me in for it and I have been warned not to say it anymore,I really hate gutless little cowards.

Posted by: rluben on October 4, 2011 12:22PM CST
The first pick I understand the play call in that situation, was just a bad decision to throw it where he did, coulda got it to Rex and he may have come up with the first by making someone miss or running them over...woulda been close anyways or Rex may have broke a bunch of ankles and tackles and scored, ya never know.

From memory, Rex had about 10-12 yards between him and the nearest defender to the sticks..worst case he drops the ball (unlikely) if Taylor dumped it down to him, or doesn't comes up a little short of getting the first on yac.

Do the little things Taylor, take what is there man.

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 12:31PM CST
Why does it matter none of the freshman running backs ever get enough carries to show their stuff.....we get away from our run game and pass the ball and complete 50% of our passes with 2-3 ints per game. May want to start using them more......

Posted by: TJ1 on October 4, 2011 12:32PM CST
didn't that happen 2-3 times Luben??

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 12:34PM CST
Anyone else ever notice on pass plays that the short pass or short crossing routes the player is always wide open? Need to start hitting that open player to get 10-15yards. Need to look at all receivers not just the deep routes.

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 12:35PM CST
Cosgrove's defenses are starting to look better than this year's defense. May what to get him on the phone

Posted by: TJ1 on October 4, 2011 12:42PM CST
I don't think the D is to that point yet, but we are approaching Bohl's Bubble defensive prowness.

I'm afraid though if they lose their confindence more than they have, it might devolve into that though.

We know the scheme can work, we've seen it work before, both here and LSU. Something else is going on here, either people aren't on the same page or someone isn't teaching the scheme right. You could point a finger at the players but it isn't just one guy or two, its several.

Heard is very good.
Green is very good.
Abdullah is very good.
Burkhead is a dependable workhorse.
Legate is a very good FB.
Turner is a playmaker.
Reed is a playmaker.
Bell is a burner.
Enunwa is a monster.
Our O-line is actually pretty good and deep.
This looks like the best collection of O talent we've had in FOREVER.

Uh...what was our problem again?

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 12:49PM CST
I think Marvin Sanders leaving hurts. And also hiring a golf coach. I dont think Sean Fisher or Will Compton are the answer...We have to have faster line backers than that. They get schooled on every play. Like they have stone feet.

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 12:51PM CST
The problem is Heard, Green, Abdullah hardly play....Reed never gets the ball thrown to him like he did last year and Barney Cotton is our line coach

Posted by: TJ1 on October 4, 2011 12:54PM CST
The golf coach is on receivers, our secondary coach we got him from Indiana and the LB coach came from none other the Solich.

Titan
The O-line is really starting to come around. I'm not sure the reason--could be the additional staff (emphasis). The depth is looking good to start B1G play. It's nice to be able to say the O-line may not be our production problem this season.

Can't we get it all together?

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 1:07PM CST
I agree the o-line has made a huge turn around from the first few games. Im actually impressed with how they have improved. Now only if we can get the DB's to improve as much as the o-line.....

Posted by: PT Husker on October 4, 2011 1:07PM CST
Recievers are also looking better. Main issue for me is the defense. And I will admit we have been spoiled.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 4, 2011 1:09PM CST
While we are wishing for Saunders to come back how about Prince, Haag and Gomes.

Just as well wish for them as well. About the same chance getting them back as Saunders.

We need Phil Elmassian (Elmo) back to coach DB's

Posted by: HuckFoley on October 4, 2011 1:18PM CST
but, wait a minute... Shawn Watson said Martinez was the best throwing QB he had ever coached...

Coaches are sometimes just flat out lying to the press, and by transitive properties, to you, the fans.

Something to describe my feeling for the Huskers last week.

PT.....why stop...maybe Suh will come back? :) and TO?

Posted by: Papillion_Husker on October 4, 2011 1:23PM CST
I haven't been down on the young CBs. I trust Bo when he says they'll straighten it out soon. He must know the light bulbs are close to coming on for them. When that happens, a lot of other perceived D problems should take care of themselves.

However...we'll still have a SLB (and to a lesser extent, MLB) problem. Lavonte and the rest of the D can't cover that up.

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 1:24PM CST
Year 4 of the Pelini era and we are still average team not being able to beat anyone that is good. Its starting to get old and I dont know if we will ever be a top 5 team for a long time. We cant ever get over the hump. I dont know what it is and why we cant do it. We seem to have talent.

I admit to being spoiled. And I admit to being wrong. This team will work things out. The Huskers always have. DONU survived two Devaney 6-4 seasons. Survived some Oklahoma thrashings under T.O. Survived SP. Survived Callaclown and his staff. Survived coaching input from 1.5 million fans. We will survive a young team as they learn. It's been done before.

Posted by: joe t on October 4, 2011 1:41PM CST
This is all on Taylor. Coaches and Taylor have said he is in control, can audible more, so it really is up to his decision making. We have talent at RB, TE, and WR. OLine still very spotty. It has been the little things like not forcing his throws, pitching the ball, throwing the ball away, fumbling, and actually moving in and out of the pocket. He makes 7-10 plays a game which costs the offense. Doesnt seem like a lot, but costs NU valuable TOP and kills momentum and rythm.

Step up Taylor. It's not time to pout or lash out during interviews. LISTEN to people around you and stop forcing things. You aren't the only player on offense, BUT you do touch the ball on every play.

Ever notice the new names that pop on here after a loss. Why not count MO. they were ranked when we beat'em,doesn't matter whether you want to accept it or not, they were ranked ,as was Okla state last year. You can't get on here and ask what ranked teams we have beat, then say so and so doesn't count. If a team is ranked its ranked. I could say we beat Texas,I don't recognize the extra sec that the refs put on the clock. I guess that means we won the Big 12 title. Wow this is great I didn't realize we could do that. Lets see what else can we not recognize? Anybody have any thing?

Posted by: charger on October 4, 2011 1:50PM CST
Yup it only took 4 years to tear it down. That was the easy part. Building it back may take longer. Oh we can't have that. My bad.

Ok, What teams besides Okie State and Missouri?

Posted by: Big Wave Dave on October 4, 2011 1:53PM CST
Well, ol Cosgrove-Beck said the players have to play smarter! Isn't that so?

Posted by: micropterus_salmoides on October 4, 2011 1:53PM CST
College football is coaching...

Beck asked Martinez to execute plays that 90% of the fans know are beyond his skill set.

Beck ignores that throwing motion and letting him throw off his back foot all the time, that is coaching.

Coaching, coaching, coaching.

He's fast, and he is a tough kid, but they are asking him to do things that he can't do.

Not his fault.

Posted by: Beta_Fish_Sker on October 4, 2011 1:54PM CST
I think that the problem goes beyond the players... Here me out now as I am NOT bashing my beloved 'Skers. When Tim Beck came in he and Bo both said that they are going to find something that as a team they can "hang our hats on", the bread-and-butter play so to speak. Now through the first three games that play seemed to be the Power Toss Sweep. Every time we ran that play, HUGE chunks of yardage were had. So if that's where we hang our hats (speculatively mind you), where was it against the Badgers? I saw it run what, twice?

I believe Tim and Bo also commented that if a play or series of plays are working, don't try to be cute (a'la Watson) and just keep doing it until they figure out how to stop it. With that in mind, in the second quarter of last weeks game we all saw (let's term it here) the 'Wats Cute' plays come out of nowhere. Lest my eyes deceive me, the Badgers D was WEARING DOWN. They were breathing hard, hands on hips while we kept our tempo up running right at them! Then suddenly the 'Wats Cute' slowed us down and allowed their D to catch their breath, settle down, and get in a rhythm. Now after the game, Beck says he had Bo's blessing to play those calls and that it was part of the game plan all along. Just yesterday though it was reported that Bo said we got away from our game plan a little bit in the second quarter. Well which is it? Are Tim and Bo on the same page? If Tim says we were on the scheduled game plan and Bo says we weren't, then there are serious problems offensively. If the coaches can't be on the same page, what chance do the players have of executing said plan?

Hey Brian, any thoughts on this matter?

Posted by: micropterus_salmoides on October 4, 2011 1:58PM CST
Make them play smarter...

What they hell do they do in practice that results in absolute slop on Saturdays?

Coaches need to shut their big media hating yappers and get to work.

They point fingers like HWSNBN, so it might be time they get treated like HWSNBN.

A sophmore QB who makes mistakes sometimes, hmmmmm How could that be?Freshman CB's who are starting for the first time, making bonehead mistakes, hmmmm again. Well dog gone it I can't figure it out. These kids should have been taught not to make mistakes by their High School coaches. GOT IT!!! FIRE THOSE HIGH SCHOOL COACHES,THEY DIDN'T BOTHER TEACHING THESE KIDS BEFORE WE RECRUITED THEM. WOW that was so simple. While we're at it ,lets blame their parents too, they obviously are lacking parenting skills, they should have been teaching their sons better, than to make mistakes[sarcasm should be inferred, for those who were never taught the difference]Some of you are so dang funny. Just wondering ,how many of you played error free sports? Why haven't I seen your names in the HALL OF FAME?[ again insert the sarcasm enuendo]

Posted by: RED KOOL-AID DRINKER on October 4, 2011 2:11PM CST
Beta you brought up some good points there my friend, like you I too was wondering where the running plays were. I guess you chalk it up to oops my bad ,shouldn't have done that, lol, but I do agree with your post. Good questions and thought out, constuctive,oh and titearse,I mean titan,Oklahoma ,Clemson. BO and company do not use youth as an excuse but they could, but what they do is expect these young men to perform when they are starting or called upon. Everyone likes the freshman running backs, are they not coached by BO also with the asisstence of the running backs coach and the recievers ,are they not coached by BO,or is it only the ones messing up that are coached by Bo,thats funny right there I don't care who you are thats funny

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 2:12PM CST
No one said they couldnt make mistakes. But when you are making the same ones over and over then there is something not clicking.....How many times do you like the mistakes happen? You have to learn from them and right now they are not whether you like it or not.

Posted by: RED KOOL-AID DRINKER on October 4, 2011 2:15PM CST
Titan you and Micro should attend the practices this week and tell BO in person what he's doing wrong. I am sure he will welcome your input,or maybe a phone call would work,I know for a fact that he does take calls and talks to husker fans. Get back to me on that will you? Let me know how it goes

Hear, Hear!! Vincent Fo, I agree wholeheartedly with you.......maybe all these negative nellies can get the coaches and players to quit on themselves so we can start all over with a new coach, A.D. and so on, maybe we can hire someone new who is as good as we had a few years back....sarcasm intended. Hasn't Bo increased the # of wins every year since he has been here?

Posted by: Titan1899 on October 4, 2011 2:19PM CST
Or you can call him and tell him how good they are playing and that no changes need to be made whether its how they coach, call plays, who plays etc...and feed him full of crap. I guess you are ok with how they play and dont care if they get better. Let me know how that goes.

I know bad analogy, but ,so are most of yours. They made mistakes, they lost, like country said "GET OVER IT" . Complaining constantly isn't going to change a thing. The Wisc. game is over, and Ohio State is next..Lets see if they learned any thing before we get out our torches and pitch forks and storm Memorial stadium

Posted by: Husker Spock on October 4, 2011 2:44PM CST
We need to have the realization that we have a very young team, new coaches and a new offense. We need to have realistic expectations. Most of us assumed we would lose 2-3 games this year. One of the games that most Husker fans expected to lose was on October 1. It was a night game, first game in the Big 10, against the defending B10 Champion with probably a better team than last year's. It would have been nice if the Huskers covered the spread but they didn't. Oh well, forget about it and move on. It's only one loss! The Huskers have a horrible OSU offensive team coming in this weekend, then a bye, and a poor Minnesota team ... Vulcan belch! Hopefully by that time, the Huskers had time to get some issues worked out! Time to look at the big picture more logically.

Vince, thanks for the re-comment. The points I bring up are that the OC and HC seem to be saying different things... And I just wonder aloud how far down that rabbit hole is. Yes we are a VERY young team, yes we will get better (this year perhaps, but just wait and see in 2-3 years... What with all the game time these young guys will have had), and yes the sky is not falling. What I don't like is that the coaches sometimes say one thing, then don't follow through. I guess its just modern day coach-speak. I also wonder why Sip or BC didn't notice the difference in stories between Bo and Tim. I just hope they get it figured out!

didn't that happen 2-3 times Luben??

yep

Those aren't and weren't the only time(s) in that game or other games where Taylor could have got the ball to Rex or another back for positive yards either.

Beck needs to drill it into his head to take what is there to take and get it into a play makers hands.

I still think shock therapy pads is the best method during practice.

Hopefully Heard will be back this weekend.. but if not at practice yesterday.. probably not.. anyway it would be good PR for recruiting in Ohio to have him on the field a few plays..

Watching tOSU.. a bit on tv.. I think this will be a low scoring game.. it appears to me that their D will be as good as UW.. just wont have the support of the O.. in keeping them off the field .. we run our O.. we should be able to beat this team.. their frosh QB will make mistakes.. we just need to take advantage of them.GBR

Posted by: cstxfn on October 4, 2011 3:07PM CST
I'm going to be a little more cautious in my expectations of Armstrong. It's fun to keep an eye out on his accomplishments since he plays for a h.s. within media range from where I live. I was expecting bigger things from Cody Green based on high school performance. Also have to keep in mind that Armstrong is being recruited by Tim Beck, who at this point of the season, is not everyone's favorite O-coordinator.

Posted by: rluben on October 4, 2011 3:08PM CST
I've thought about it and It's almost as if Beck went mental because he was trying to prove the national media wrong and took it as some kind of challenge to prove that Taylor could throw the ball and that they were all geniuses.

His ego may have temporarily got in the way of common sense and reality.

Because the situation outside of the 3rd and 16 didn't call for doing what you aren't and getting away from what you do do good.

Play action and some normal pass sprinkled in here and there is our game and Taylor is capable of executing that effectively enough to move the chains and make some big plays now and then off it.

Beck let his pride and stubbornness get in the way a little bit and put Taylor in a bad situation.

But that's okay, sometimes ya gots to be humbled to get to another level.

cstxfn,

I was more curious if he was a Jamal Turner type of athlete at QB, Brion Carnes type or Cody Green type...I was hoping he's a hybrid of all three maybe.

Yeah I hear ya, after the Cody Green deal, I'm going to treat the recruits like I usually do...show me on this level, make me a believer on the college gridiron.

I've never really bought into the hype, but I did get a little over excited over Cody Green and bought into all the hype mistakenly.

Lube ..anyone would have.. watching those highlights.. look at his stats.. they were pretty awesome.. he was a stud in hs.. no doubt.. check his stats in the championship game... who knew..when looking at his size and arm strength.

Posted by: cstxfn on October 4, 2011 3:20PM CST
Tom Lemming; He shows outstanding footwork, accuracy, and a good arm. He's very comfortable throwing the ball from the pocket but does an awful lot of damage when being chased and finding open receivers. He shows good throwing mechanics and is very good in short to medium range passes. Not afraid to take a hit, he can also scramble with the best of them. He's one of those QB's who can fit into just about any type of offense.

How about Doc getting a commit from a 6ft 10 in, guy from bosnia, hopefuly though he carries some weight with him,not 6ft. 10in and 190 lbs,lol

I saw tape of Armstrong. His hs team looked like a college team. He looked really good. Pretty good throwing motion but can run the option and moves real fluid.

If this place helps you get over it then keep on keeping on.

Just expect some backlash.

Towards the end of the game, the camera paused on Bo's face for about 10 seconds. Felt a lot longer. I couldn't quite lay my finger on the emotions I was seeing flow over his face. Kinda like he sharted during a first date.

Posted by: RetiredArmyGuy on October 4, 2011 3:24PM CST
It seemed to me that after that first false start penalty, the whole game plan changed. The offense tried to get that 5 yards back all at once and things just snowballed on them.

By going to 3 passes after that the team got a message of desperation.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 4, 2011 3:26PM CST
tOSU has a Freshman QB? Can our defense keep them from getting more than 450 total yards.

Please let Eric Martin play MLB for a little while. Show us what it is like to see somebody on our defense hit somebody......I forget what it looks like.

Posted by: TheNUorder on October 4, 2011 3:26PM CST
I'm still a Beck supporter.

Not sure what happened mid way thru the 2nd quarter, but up to that point it looked like he was setting the plays up pretty well because the Badger defense was sprinting sideline to sideline to try to prevent us from getting around the edge.

Then instead of exploiting what he was setting up, poof. It was like someone switched out some pages in his play book.

I hope it was a learning experience for Beck. He is young, this was his 5th game as OC. So I won't get down on him over his first leraning experience or whatever it was.

But I hope to see that he has leaerned from the experience and continues to grow as our OC.

Ohio State should be a good test for him as I believe the Buckeye defense is a bit better than the Badgers.

So I will be patient and wait a week or two for him to unleash Beckzilla.

I stay calm because I see the talent we have.

I like the kids attitudes and character and want to see them succeed at what they love to do.

I like the staff, I want to see them have success.

I NEVER liked Pederson, and that goes back a long long ways for me. He's a fake azz punk pretender.

I didn't like Callahan, hated seeing the Huskers s struggle and freefall, but there was solace in knowing his time would be short from the get go and all I had to do was weather it Circus until some one put it out of it's misery.

Coz I kinda liked, but he was in way over his head, I knew Wisconsin never had much of D the time he was there and he'd that he'd probably blow chunks here too.

It's sorta easy for me to stay positive when I like the overall makeup of the program, the people involved and what they are trying to get done, I can live with the stumbles knowing they care as much as I do.

So I kinda enjoy pulling for them to overcome their challenges, it's actually part of the beauty of the game to me...it's what makes it special and one of the best games ever invented by man.

I watched T.O. stumble here n there until he finally put it all together, this is a little different, he took over a solid foundation and kept it rolling along, and he was dealing with a different landscape in scholy numbers, NCCA blinders, yadda yadda.

Nothing more fun than watching your team overcome the things they need to overcome to become the best they can be...even if it takes 20+ years to go from better than most to one of the the best to ever step onto a gridiron.

If it was simple, it wouldn't be exciting to watch and what those championship teams accomplished wouldn't mean as much.

Those champ teams owe a little to the teams before them that came close.

One game, one season, doesn't make or break a program.

I remember one good hit.. on Monte Ball.. from Staff.. Ball had his bell rung, for awhile.. he came off the field.

This was a bad loss. That being said, it COULD be our only regular season loss all year. That, would be a good thing. IMHO the problem we have is mostly "mental". Always looking for the big play, instead of the safe play. That kills us on offense, and doesn't let us sustain drives very long in many cases. Take the 4 yard dump pass when available, run more with our backs as well. Easy fix. On D, I see our LB's as being physically a problem. Not enough game speed. One yes, the others? not so much. IT hurts our run D, and so does our continual 35 second 3 and out "drives".

Big plays are nice, but long drives are nicer!

Posted by: PT Husker on October 4, 2011 3:51PM CST
6 points is nicest of all.

Titan....I think part of the issue we have is raised expectations and short memories. The record has improved each year under Bo. No where near true to say we are the same team as the last year under Callahan. We lost a lot of good players last year. We have a new coordinator. I still think we'll do well this year but we're too young to be contending for an NC. This is part of the ebb and flow of recruiting...losing a player or two, etc.

Am I wrong on this, but other than the Wyo game where we toss swept them to death that one drive, I don't remember that our "dominant" play was toss sweep. People seem to be implying that half of our plays were toss sweeps and I don't think that's the case. Our hardcore, grind the clock runs have been Burkhead at the right tackle spot.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 4, 2011 3:55PM CST
I saw that about the airport towel dispenser. Is that all in the world there is to write about.

Is there a Waffle House in Lincoln Nebraska. I'll get Kid Rock to make a late night appearance. That event should make headline news for a week. Nothing like a brawl at the Waffle House.

I fixing to go to the local eatery and put in an appearance. We've got to discuss the upcoming battle with the water lizards. I can't even discuss Ohio State as I have such a bias against that overrated little group. I always wondered if somebody came up behind the sweater vest coach and said boo, what would happen. Year long hype for Ohio State and then the elite would come south and have it royally handed to them on a platter.

Get well soon Mr. Heard we can use all the help we can get.

Harsh: And as if Saturday's performance wasn't humbling enough, there was this Tweet from Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis:

"I feel bad for nebraska. Couldn't win In big 12, then go to the big 10 and can't win. maybe conference usa is a better fit."

So little boy Lewis, not only are you a reneger, but now you want to disrespect a rivalry that has been around way before u were suckling from your momma's breast? It shows your lack of character. The good thing about twitter is that it usually reveals the jackasses out there.

GO BIG I HOPE THE WHORNS KNOCK U OUT OF THE GAME YOU CLASSLESS PIECE OF CRAP!!!

If you can plainly identify recurring and glaring issues that hurt your team and you don't do anything to fix them that is a problem.

If you root for a team that has these problems and you go all Pollyanna and can't fathom that people want the problems fixed, then I'm sorry but you aren't a fan.

What exactly do you root for every Saturday?

A well played game win or lose? (you didn't get that)
A team that doesn't lay down (you didn't get that)
A team that looks well coached (you didn't get that)

Take winning and losing out of the equation, what exactly are you hoping to see each week Vince? I bet you enjoy the commercials

I have a question. Sometimes, when bringing up the Callahan era, people will type something like HWSBNC. What does that mean?

Posted by: Husker Spock on October 4, 2011 4:09PM CST
That tweet was totally illogical. Nebraska beat OU two years ago and I believed Travis Lewis was part of the OU team at the time.

He Who Shall Not Be Named

Callahan
Dick Cheney
and originally Voldemort from Harry Potter series.

It probably has earlier literary origins but that is the Nebraska/pop-culture slant.

Jumbo or Robka, has it somewhat misunderstood to what motivated the comments, IMO?

Yes he is demeaning NU, from his emotions?

Lewis almost went to NU, before in the midnight hour chose OU instead? Lots at OU players including Stoops, miss NU more than you know for the playing?

Stoops made a quip awhile back, if we can lose a opponent like NU annually, than we can lose the RRS?

So much behind one's statements sometimes?
That decision was made sadly, before Stoops came onboard? To the playing annually a big mistake on OU's part?

I had some of these same emotions, as a older guy like Lewis at first? Love and hate are close not distances apart sometimes?

Like a spouse lost and your love before and hate after for justification to the loss?

Lewis is doing, a I told you so, in being disgruntled for the not being able to continue to compete with NU, his almost choice of coming to Huskerville?

Being a coach of athletes in the past, you have to know his connection and fondness for NU, prior to the leaving for Big Ten? He's young and emotional so be it?

But a love/hate relationship to the program he came very close to choosing?

To know one's actions sometimes, you have to understand the depth of feelings and why?

Just like newscasts and the things extracted, without the contextual knowing?

Robka, I have seen enough of your comments to know your disdain for OU anyway?

That's ok, I see some besmirch Bubba for almost choosing NU, if baseball hadn't of worked?

The way of some fans, to show more disgust to the ones, that are interested and don't come?

Got my quota today? Almost 5:30 am Wed. here?

I think the old long haired dude from Harry Potter said:

"He whose name shall not be mentioned."

HWNSNBM.

But what the hell, everybody knows who we are talking about with any version of that.

I dunno. I never played the game. Never played as a QB. Never played in a D1 Football game. Never played as a QB in a D1 Football game against a top 10 team on their home field in the 1st game in a new Conference.

So, as you might expect, don't know what it is like on that field with 2 lines pushing and shoving while other guys zip around-half of them trying to grab me and knock me down.

So, forgive me if this is a stupid question. Is the vantage point on the field as a QB any different from my vantage point from my sofa or the bar stool?

If it is, how come TM never saw all of those guys open every time every one of them was open like we do every time we re-view the game?

Those of you who have been in that situation, help me out. Please.

It ain't an easy job, RedG, that's for dang sure.

If it was I reckon even a caveman could do it.

What we need is a heads-up display in the qb's helmet wirelessly connected to a computer and an RTK system with 1" precision or so and then some nifty software to track all of our players and theirs in real time, determine the optimum target for best effect, calculate proper trajectory, and put a nice fat target on the display for Taylor to aim at.

I think we can find that in some of that automatic targeting stuff in the stealth fighters and bombers over here at Whiteman. I'll slip over there and see if I can get ahold of one.

Either that or about ten more seasons for Taylor's brain to turn that into an automatic process like ol' Payton Manning has going for him.

We engineers specialize in applying science to solving the problems of man.

Red G.....good point. If you are a 6' 1" QB and you have 5 lineman (includeing TE) in front of you who are 6'5" or 6' 6" and D lineman that are tall with their hands up.....it may be hard to see a defender. When you roll out, your vision may be limited to a part of the field. You think you know their coverage but they ran a stunt and someone went outside when you thought they were inside...they are not in your visual field as you start to throw and they break on your ball and as the ball is in the air, they are right in its path in front of the receiver and you never saw them. Bad decision? Probably a bad read more than that. You can't see everything on the field and more so if you have 8 guys in front of you who are 5" taller. And you need to make those reads, avoid the rush and get the ball off in about 3 seconds. Let's just say most people shouldn't quit their day job to take it up. In the middle of that, you are supposed to be checking your primary receiver and then checking down to second and third receivers where needed. Piece of cake.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 4, 2011 5:04PM CST
RedGore.....I was never a QB in D1 but I was in high school. From your bar stool you can see guys open better than the QB......'cause you have a birds eye view. The timing is key as you go through the progression of your receivers.....sometimes rushing defenders screw that progression up. Tmart isn't very good doing that......I think sometimes he feels pressure that isn't there yet. That's why you see wide open players run around and he throws to the covered guy....he was no. 1 in his progression.

Posted by: TomOs on October 4, 2011 5:28PM CST
As Qb.. you have to have a window to look through.. a mental picture of where each receiver will be.. to read progressions.. some Qb's have a knack for it some dont (may be peripheral vision).. a lot depends on the time you have back there and if you have that window to see them

Wester - I challenge you to find a comment made by myself showing any sort of hatred of the OU program? Not sure were your getting your info at? In fact we have had conversations about how the OU vs.NU rivalry was so classy. Now if you said the same about Texas, than I would tend 2 agree with you. The respectful rivalry between Nebraska & OU is exactly why I was so disappointed with Lewis's comments and still am.

as much as I hate saying this;
