Crick addresses NFL question
Posted by: Steve Sipple on August 13, 2010 at 1:49PM CST

NFL teams obviously are well aware of Jared Crick.

The Sporting News rates him as the nation's top player, regardless of position.

Agents send the Nebraska junior defensive tackle brochures and letters touting their services. He'll look at the letters at the end of this season, Crick said Friday. For now, preseason camp is his priority, he said, along with winning a national championship and graduating.

But he made it clear Friday he may face a tough decision after this season -- although he insists he hasn't thought much about the NFL to this point.

"At the end of the year, I'll have my talks with coach Bo (Pelini) and coach Carl (Pelini) about what I want to do, and especially my family," Crick said. "Right now, it's not even certain whether I'm going to leave after this year. I may stay for my senior year."

Crick last season recorded 73 tackles, including 9 1/2 sacks.

** We know by now that Nebraska right guard Ricky Henry can be a little, ahem, aggressive.

"He's trying to start a fight with somebody every single day in practice," Crick said. "He's just crazy. But that's what I like to see. He's a tough kid. He comes off the ball hard, like (left guard) Keith (Williams)."

Does Crick ever try to rile up Henry?

"I try to start something with him. I try to get him riled up," Crick said. "But he never wants to fight me."

Probably a wise move.

AND BAM!

Crick Stays and Wins the Heisman Our First Year in the Big10. That is the my prediction and you can take that to the Bank.

"Right now, it's not even certain whether I'm going to leave after this year. I may stay for my senior year."

If he has the year we all believe he can...AND if we win the National Championship...it would be hard to stay I suppose.

Not for me...use every ounce of the DONU experience you can then help launch us into the first year of the Big 10.

I wouldn't miss the first year of the Big 10 for a 40 million dollar guarantee...but that's me.

Wishing him an injury free season and best wishes for whatever he decides.

Posted by: LosSantosKid on August 13, 2010 2:10PM CST
Give up my SR season starting for the Cornhuskers just for money? Not in this lifetime. I'm not kidding either...plus, Jared will want to work productively in society someday. Corn Nation will always find a primo 'job' for him if he keeps his nose clean.

Posted by: PT Husker on August 13, 2010 2:10PM CST
It worked for Suh to stay. He will get a lot of stuff thrown at him by the agents for sure. And there is the risk of injury.

Not to worry until next winter. for now sit back and enjoy.

Posted by: LosSantosKid on August 13, 2010 2:23PM CST
Power,

First of all, I don't believe SRs have to live in dorms. Could be wrong.

Second, the rules can't be that bad. It's gotten them all to this point hasn't it? Can't be horrible to play there your SR season.

Third, I thought all chitluns born and raised in Cornville were doing exactly what they wanted to do representing the Corn.

I remember at 20 saying I was going to make a million per year by 30, so maybe you're right I was / am a totally different cat.

I sounds like he is planing to graduate and play on Sundays next year.

Posted by: LosSantosKid on August 13, 2010 2:31PM CST
It sure does E.

Posted by: fleaflicker on August 13, 2010 2:45PM CST
IMO I think a better answer for Crick would've been to not even address the NFL question at this time. There's a long season ahead of him and a lot of things can happen to change plans.

Posted by: Uncle Fester on August 13, 2010 2:54PM CST
Bloozman - Suh stayed for his senior year.

Posted by: Uncle Fester on August 13, 2010 2:55PM CST
Sorry, Blooz-that was meant for Powerhuskers.

Posted by: STONECOLD on August 13, 2010 3:36PM CST
crick sad he will talk to bo and carl and his family first before his anser go big red

Posted by: winredwin on August 13, 2010 4:27PM CST
Crick will stay... just like his boy Suh did. JC will only be a better man with another year with the defensive gurus behind him. Non issue IMHO

Posted by: manwomanandchild on August 13, 2010 4:56PM CST
IMO losing a DT for leaving early would a) be a testament to this amazing turnaround that we have seen from 2007 to present and b) not really that big of a deal with the players that are behind him.. i'd be more worried if we lost carl pelini to a HC job

Posted by: Bloozman on August 13, 2010 4:58PM CST
I'm just sayin, I hope he stays, but if he doesn't good wishes.

Posted by: Big Red in Big D 007 on August 13, 2010 5:25PM CST
At the end of the school year, not the end of the season, he will sit down with his parents and discuss it. Then he will talk to his coaches, as it should be. From what he has said earlier his degree is paramount. He'll make the right decision for himself with the imput of his family.

1 day closer to 09/04.

Posted by: genius_man16 on August 13, 2010 5:37PM CST
There will probably be a lockout next year in the NFL, so Crick might not have much of a choice in the matter (not that Im complaining mind you)

Posted by: CBHusker on August 13, 2010 6:18PM CST
genius-
You make a good point, but it depends on when the new pro collective agreement takes effect. If the new rookie cap kicks in after the draft, you're talking about millions Crick could be losing. In that case he'd almost have to go. I'd hate to see him leave, but that's a LOT to lose.

Posted by: Gofor2 on August 13, 2010 6:40PM CST
It just seems intuitive that Suh set a precedent for the, NFL/skip senior year, decision.

I'd be surprised if Crick breaks that precedent.

Posted by: CBHusker on August 13, 2010 6:52PM CST
All things being equal, the precedent would apply. But Suh was able to improve his stock and value by staying in. Crick's is a different case, so I hope he's able to stay. But if the difference in staying is in the millions(or tens of millions), and he thinks he has to go, give him the benefit of the doubt.

Howdy PT! How is the world today ?

Posted by: drivebyposter on August 13, 2010 7:21PM CST
I gues it would depend on what the lockout status is?

Posted by: big red 1 on August 13, 2010 7:27PM CST
Driveby : Was at Barnes n Noble today and bought the 2010 Nebraska football guide. A bunch of info. in it. A good read. Only $15.00

You guys REALLY believe that Crick will be a Heisman candidate? That NU will/can win the NC this season? Are you people REALLY this deluded? Are your beat-writers THIS delusional? I hope not.

Crick is a good player....good, mind you. Heisman worthy? Hell no. Please join some of us in 'Reality-Land'....my God.

Fix your freaking offense, wait and play a game that indicates Suh wasn't the 'end-all' to your defensive unit....and THEN talk.

You guys act like the current NU squad/program is the 94-95 teams re-incarnate. Sheesh.

Cripes TimBe kickoff is in 3 weeks and things are pretty electric. It's been awhile since we've had so many positive things to look forward to, it's nice to have that old feeling back.

If ever there were a time for hyperbole, this would be it. Relax!

TimBe

This blog is na na land for koolaid and chocolate fantasy delights. Noone wants to wait to see what kind of a team is fielded. But, there are some positive signs that last year was not a fluke. The big question is offense again.

Crick had better stop reading the media hype about him, and concentrate on his play this season. If he is as smart as Suh, he will stay and graduate. Hopefully, his parents will be a positive influence like Suh's were.

Posted by: Nuke1970 on August 14, 2010 6:30AM CST
If Crick goes this year as a first year pick, I believe the future pipeline will grow even greater as linemen from throughout the country see that NU is the best place to get set up for a huge start to an NFL career. In the long run it will help not hurt NU strength.

Posted by: Nuke1970 on August 14, 2010 6:31AM CST
I meant number one pick.
