Brown not worried about Horns' D
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on November 30, 2009 at 11:44AM CST
The Big 12 weekly teleconference is underway. Mack Brown and Bo Pelini are the only coaches speaking.

Also set to speak on the teleconference are Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, and Nebraska's Jacob Hickman and Ndamukong Suh.

Mack Brown said it could be a good thing that Texas A&M scored 39 points on the Longhorns.

"I think that lack of performance will get our attention for this weekend," said Brown, who noted that his team missed 13 tackles against the Aggies and had a lot of communication issues. "We probably did too much (on defense). We'll go back and be who we are this week."

Brown said he isn't surprised Nebraska has found its way back to this game just two years after a 5-7 season.

"Nebraska's one of those programs that's never going to be out of sight and mind long, never going to be down long," Brown said.

Asked about Ndamukong Suh, Brown noted that  he's a big concern, especially since he felt Oklahoma's Gerald McCoy dominated Texas' front this year.

"When you look at young Suh, what you see is a player who can dominate a game," Brown said. "So our offensive staff will have to look at every play we run to make sure we have some help on him. What makes that difficult is their other players are really good too."

Brown said Nebraska might have the best defensive line in the country.

I expect it to rebound as well...unfortunately.

Oh yeah, BAM!! Go Blackshirts!!

I hope they don't worry about us. I hope they think we don't even belong on the same field as them.

One game away from the BCS

They are looking past us. Look out horns. We got nothing to lose.

Mack Brown is a good coach, they aren't going to look past us. It's not their style. If we can manage a complete on on both sides of the ball and special teams play is there we can win this game. That's a big IF on the offensive side of things though.

We're sneaking up on 'em in plain sight.

Mack Brown and Colt McCoy, Shipley and company. No, they will not look beyond us. Too much at stake, way too much.

This is what they have been aiming all year long since not being in the game last year.

Both teams will come focused and ready to play.

I am hoping that NU stomps a mud-hole in the Whorns!!!

GBR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas was looking past A and M and concentrating on the Huskers. They'll be prepared but you never know how the ball will bounce. Especially a football.

Brown knows all of the right things to say. He has that quiet confidence of a coach who knows what a powerhouse he has at his disposal against a team just trying to raise it's head out of the mud of the past several years.

If NU is plus 8 in the turnover battle the Huskers can win this one. That's just one scenario, there are others that can give the Huskers a victory as well.

We owe UT. Karma is coming our way.

Posted by: MileHiHusker on November 30, 2009 12:15PM CST
It has been a long time since NU has beaten a team that it wasn't supposed to. Mabye it will happen Saturday. The odds have to be getting better each time it doesn't happen.

I think the main reason why Brown is not worried about the Horns D is because he has seen film of NU's offense. Maybe the Huskers have just been playing possum the last 9 games so they can surprise everyone in the Big XII championship game.

I was at the UT-A&M game, and I did not see UT looking past anyone. In fact, that is the most focused I have ever seen Colt McCoy. Even in warmups, he looked like a man on a mission. I was tempted to suggest that he cut back on the caffeine. Even during the game, he was constantly behind the bench, when not on the field, exhorting his teammates to play better. The Aggies just exploded offensively, plain and simple. Jerrod Johnson is a big-time playmaker, and Christine Michael is the best freshman running back I have seen in a long time. If A&M had had any kind of defense at all, UT would have lost the game. McCoy willed his team to win, which is what Big 12 qbs are supposed to do. If NU can play as strong defensively as OU did, and get a few turnovers, like a fumble recovery or INT for a td, then the Huskers have a chance.

Why would he be worried about his "D"? Watch out for that NU offense, it's explosive, it's dynamic, it's...it's...it's..................

MileHiHusker........

I know you're kidding about the offense "playing possum", but with Helu and Rex healthy, the Huskers might just be able to do some simple things well in the running game. If the Blackshirts hold up and Zac can burn UT once or twice - game on!

GBR! Beat Texas!

Posted by: HuskerzRock on November 30, 2009 12:33PM CST
MileHi,

We weren't "supposed" to beat OU. It hasn't been that long...

Posted by: MattMiller23 on November 30, 2009 12:34PM CST
Texas A&M is a very good offensive team. They have been in the top of the conference all year and in the top 10 of the nation all year. It is no suprise they gave the Texas "D" a run for their money.

NU is going to need to keep Texas off the field. This means they may need to convert a third down or two.

Going to be a huge upset!!

Go Big Red

OU was not and is not the same team without their Heisman QB and their all american tight end, as well as a few other injured players. We should have beat OU and thank goodness we did.
If Gillelyn (sp?) ever gets to play again Zac might be able to burn Texas once or twice. Our running game does look much improved having two very good backs.

MM23,

It depends on what the meaning of it's is?
