Breakfast with Marvin
Posted by: Brian Christopherson on October 30, 2009 at 7:56AM CST

My morning agenda: Marvin, then McMuffin, then taking my shoes off at the airport. I wore clean socks just for the occasion.

But before I get going to Waco, here's a little taste of what Marvin Sanders had to say at Friday's Big Red Breakfast in Omaha.

Sanders said the last contest against Iowa State was "the weirdest game as a coach I think I've ever been a part of. I don't think I could script a game like that if I tried."

But let's move on to speculating, shall we? How about that quarterback thing?

"You can ask about the starting quarterback and I don't know it and it's the truth," Sanders said. "I've seen both guys get reps."

Sanders said it's unfortunate when things don't right and people always put all the blame on the quarterback or safety.

Speaking of safeties, Sanders was very complimentary of senior Matt O'Hanlon. "That young man has been one of the best safeties anywhere. Solid. Consistent. A young man I'll trust with everything. ... People talk about one play (at Virginia Tech). Talk about one play. We'll talk about Clemson one play if we're going to talk about a play, because he's a young man I trust a lot."

Sanders said the team had its best week of practice. The crowd groaned. The past two coaches at these breakfasts said that too. Playing to the crowd Sanders then joked: "We stunk at practice. We absolutely stunk at practice this week."

About how defensive coaches motivate their defense to go out on the field after offensive turnovers, Sanders said: "What we try to preach to our guys is when we're on the football field as a defense, it's another opportunity for us to shine."

Sanders said sophomore cornerback Alfonzo Dennard is playing at "a very high level." He says Dennard is just 5-foot-9, but has a 41-inch vertical. The coach Sanders has been playing with a bum shoulder.

He also said Eric Hagg "doesn't get enough credit for some of the things he does. Nickel back. Dimebacker. Safety. He even plays a little linebacker. He knows our system so we're able to plug him in."

let's not be Bo-headed and have Lee play the whole game. it's time for THE SPARK to get some playing time. GO BIG GREEN

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 8:07AM CST
if zak comes out and sparks this team with a big game and kicks their arse....you will see me at the oklahoma game with my new SPARK LEE shirt on.

BC,

You must wash that McMuffin down with some crack in order to stay so thin!

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 8:37AM CST
Greetings Flatlanders, whichever QB gets the nod I just want to see him lead or drag his team to victory. Whatever it takes. GBR!

taco,

I can only assume said SPARK LEE shirt has sequins on it.

Not so sure "GO BIG GREEN" is the best cheer for Baylor week.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 8:50AM CST
Wyo. Not as bad as you but bad enough. 13 more inches or more last night. We have had 30+ inches in October which is about our ANNUAL average. Lots af Farmers pretty worried. Some still have soybeans in the field and Corn Harvets has not even started.

Screwey year. Kind a like the Huskers.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:00AM CST
HuskerinExile....my sources tell me cody will takeover this team and lead us to the NC. he will win the Heisman and be a top draft pick. will lead this team to 3 superbowls. know what NFL team he will play for???????none other than the GREEN bay packers....lol

Posted by: Father of future Husker on October 30, 2009 9:01AM CST
I'm glad to hear Helu is feeling better this week, because I don't think Green would start if we had to start D Rob also.
I mean there is no way you would want a freshman RB and freshman QB starting on the road when your starters are out.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:02AM CST
PT HUSKER....this is not the weather channel blog. lol

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:07AM CST
Taco. I heard Cody Green was a part time Broadcaster there. Led them to Three Emmys.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:09AM CST
father of future husker....after watching the outcome of our last two games..what could it hurt to start the two freshman? it's not like we have a lot to lose at this point and they are our future players. cody will prove the grass is always GREEN-ER on the other side. GO BIG THE FUTURE STARTS NOW.

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 9:21AM CST
Greetings PT, ours was a record for Oct too. Broke the record set in 1906. Roads are all still closed. Not many rumors from Husker camp. I think they'll surprise us with some of the starters on Saturday. Would love to see Green have a shot, nothing against Lee but it's time to shake things up.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:21AM CST
my sources tell me that NU football has called an all out CODE GREEN.....to be continued. lol

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:23AM CST
Can't argue with that. Lee is lacking something. Seems like the players cna't control the mistakes with him in the ball game. Maybe a different person in the huddle would help.

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 9:33AM CST
Can't hurt, although the coaches are concerned with Green's delivery which is rather unorthodox and sidearmed. It's his ablilty to operate the zone read they are interested in. Wats would like to do more but I think he finally realizes Lee can't run that play as effective as Gant did and it was a big part of our offense last year. Still time to finish strong with a respectable season, however things have got to turnaround bigtime on Saturday.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 9:34AM CST
Get the best guys out there who give us the best chance to win, Coaches. Whoever that is?

I'm looking for a little more consistent execution from all the boys, not just the offense either.

Posted by: drivebyposter on October 30, 2009 9:37AM CST
The bears will be ready. The defense needs to "corn-up" as the offense will be what it is, again.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 9:38AM CST
sources tell me that both QBs will have a big part in NUs NC game win next year. NU staff has Mr. LEE- GREEN-WOOD sing the national anthem.

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 9:41AM CST
I hear ya! It would be wonderful to watch this team play a clean 60 minute game.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on October 30, 2009 9:44AM CST
PT. We have finally brainwashed you about Lee and Green. But, it is true that Lee is missing something lately, as he is very indecisive in executing the offense, such as it is. He just appears lost in space. On the other hand, Green appears to be the better passer and runner in his brief appearances. I strongly believe that this could be a very differant looking offense with Green at the helm. But, tell that to Watson and Pelini who fixate on filling the squares during practice. Either way, something has to change if the offense continues to sputter, enroute to a 7-5 or 6-6 regular season with losses to Oklahoma, Kansas, and perhaps Colorado or even KS. Ugh!

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 9:45AM CST
I'll take 45 mins of decent football.

baby steps.

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 9:47AM CST
We had 58.5 against VT and what did that get us?

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 9:48AM CST
I continue to be amazed at us on here. We are making an assumption that Green is the best QB. No question that he is a better Athlete. And he will probably be a great QB someday. But I am absoulutey amazed at the lack ofg credit we give the coaches. It is stupid to assume that they would not play the kid that gives them the best chance to win. If Green was clearly better as we all assume, he would be playing. Not bying the play for the future Mantra. That could work both ways. Career ending injuries happen to poeple that are not ready.

There is a sad reality that we do not want to accept. Maybe we are not very good on that side of the ball due to a myriad of reasons.

Posted by: drivebyposter on October 30, 2009 9:49AM CST
luby, did Watson return your emails?

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 9:53AM CST
PT - We all assume? I don't think I've assumed that ever. I do know what you mean though. Everyone believes Cody will be so much better as the starter/leader of the offense. I'm not saying he won't, just need to see that before I make those statements. He's been involved when they were either way ahead or down and gambling. Let him start and see what he does. If he kicks butt, great.

If this offense would just fire on all cylinders instead of beating themselves no one would be talking about all this.

Whoever plays, I hope they do well enough to win.

The "Y" in the road is here.

"Welcome to the hotel in the cornfields."
"Is it heaven or is it hell?"

Posted by: WyHuskerFan on October 30, 2009 9:55AM CST
It's worked for other postion players to watch from the sidelines for a series or two. I think it would benefit Lee as well. If Green can't get it done, Lee can come in and be a hero which should end any simmering controversy. That would be a win-win strategy for everyone.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 9:58AM CST
I've decided to let the youngster get the start. It's time to see what he's got. If he does well, let him keep his spot. If he can't get it done and throws three picks in the first half, put Zac back in and hope the defense didn't give up 28 so we still have a shot at winning.

Ray, Green had me after TT. Still not sure if he is the answer but I am ready for a different question. But the Coaches are not and they are the ones that matter.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 10:03AM CST
I hope the defense doesn't get all caught up in how good they are. We need the back 7 to stay on task in this game. They will throw the ball deep, and that is not in question.

Suh and company need to have another big game. We need to knock these guys around and take some positive momentum back to Lincoln for OU.

Lots of Pick opps for Asante and company. The D will score this weekend.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on October 30, 2009 10:18AM CST
PT. We do know, for a "fact"not an assumption, that Lee has not performed well in the last 2 games, in spite of a noticeable improvement in the OL. Even though the receivers and RBs are screwing up, the QB still has to make something happen. He hasn't done that. We "are assuming" that Green will provide that spark to make things happen, but that assumption is based on his actual performance during game conditions, albeit in clean-up roles. Something differant has to be tried before the season goes completely down the tubes, don't you think? Let's see who is actually the better QB. Right not, all we know is that Lee isn't getting it done after 7 games. And unless we start Green, we will never know if he can do it either. So what is there to lose? It's done all the time in college football.

Posted by: taco on October 30, 2009 10:28AM CST
ray in bellevue..it's done in the NFL also. kerry collins the starting QB with the titans will be replaced this week with vince young. guess they are looking for a spark on their team.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 10:34AM CST
Ray, Very little arguement from me.. I am just being contrary for the fun of it. And I do thing it would help the O if the D could score. Maybe a little pressure lifted off some shoulders. It they could relax and play we just might be shocked.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 10:36AM CST
Green will start. I've called Bo to let him know I approve. Let's just hope he can get things rolling. No time like this weekend to get it going.

Posted by: dbhuskers on October 30, 2009 11:03AM CST
I have pretty good information that Green is starting tomorrow.

Posted by: Country Husker on October 30, 2009 11:08AM CST
I don't comment much, but I've had enough.

I don't care how long you been on this blog or how big of a fan you say you are, you suck if you don't get off the "Watsons' an a**hole, and Zac Lee sucks" crap. It's old, and nobody cares what you think anymore.

Lee is our quarterback, Watson is our OC, Pelini is our Head Coach, and I will support Big Red win or lose. All I expect is that they do thier best, year round, to improve and win.

When we lose, I don't feel sorry for myself and don't give a dang how mad you are in your comfy living room. If you are losing money in Vegas, too damn bad.

I feel bad for the team of college kids who work thier butts off and then have to put up with fair weather fans who are ready to insult the heck out of them.

And if you think the players don't pay attention to the opinion of the fans, you are wrong. I hope they don't, for thier sake, but either support the team and the decisions by the coaches or shut up.

Go Big Red!!!!!! Go Bo, Go Zac, and Go Wats!

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 11:12AM CST
It's at least a 50% chance he's starting tomorrow. LOL

I think he'll start as well. I also think he'll do well and if he does, he'll likely get the nod to start for the rest of the year. I do hope Zac will provide any assistance Cody will need to make him most successful. Just being over there and pushing Cody to do well will speak volumes to the team player in him. I'm sure he'll be disappointed it won't be him getting it done, but hey, lifes hard and you have to deal with the ups and downs. I like this guy (Zac Lee) and I've got nothing but good things to say about him. He's tried hard, (maybe too hard) to do well for this team.

Good luck to you Mr. Cody Green, and all your Husker Brothers tomorrow and in the future...

Remember boys that Green has alot of added pressure with all the family and friends attending the game. Start Lee for two series and then insert the future QB.

The General will start. A brother told me.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 11:24AM CST
Country - you just have to realize there are a boat load of people who feel entitled to something, not sure what?

Watson will probably move on to a head coaching job of his own somewhere after this season. He's not the type to stay here and take the crap being dumped on him too much longer. Changes will come to this team. That's a constant these days. They'll find someone else to kick around when he's gone. Gotta blame someone for failures, and right now Wats is the scapegoat for the high expectation group...

You know, before this season started, I truly felt this team could be 7-0 at this point. Now I can look back and say, they really could have been just that, if not for the lack of execution at critical times on both sides of the ball. That falls on coaches and players, but they are doing their best to stay focused and bring it around. What more can I or anybody else expect? Will it do any good or change anything if we complain? No.

The grass is always GREEN'r, isn't it?

I'm rooting for this team to get it together and play a complete game on both sides of the ball. If they do that, they'll be just fine. As for the fans, there will always be some who will never be satisfied. Who will always expect more than they get. It's a bit like the attitude of the HeadCoach at Nebraska now though, isn't it? He's created a little of this himself. Never perfect, always expecting more, etc... Don't let it get you down Country.

Posted by: JayBr on October 30, 2009 11:26AM CST
I am very hopeful about what Green brings to the table. I still get a chuckle on here when posters talk about Green, even in terms of the question "what do we have to lose?". There is no question that Cody is the better athlete of the two, but it is said that Gilleylen is the fastest of all the receivers. But, we have seen that speed does not translate into being the best receiver since he is not as aggressive as other receivers.
So, for those that say Green looked awesome against Texas Tech, my opinion is that he did not. His throws were erratic. Again, I eagerly await to see what Green brings to this offense. What most excites me is that if Green gets significant playing time (and I could care less who starts the game), that means that we are transitioning more into a focus on running the football. Bo did not come here to lose games.....let's let him do his job. Overall this season, the receivers have let us down FAR more than the quarterback. Let's remember Holt's dropped TD when he hit the ground at V Tech, Paul's lack of effort on the lateral vs. T Tech, Gilleylen's lack of aggressiveness last week, just to name a few. Bo did not panic, but has made the moves at the appropriate times. The answer is not always to start from scratch.

Posted by: AKHusker23 on October 30, 2009 11:38AM CST
I agree totally with Country Husker. Let's just support our team. I believe the coaches are starting the guy who give us the best chance to win. So many folks on here are convinced Green is the answer. They must be forgetting the end of the TT game, when after the safety dropped the first direct pass to him, Cody threw it to him again so he could make up for the first drop. I think Cody could be a great one, but he's just not there yet.

http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=2840416

Here is our starting quaterback folks. Only one division one offer out of high school (Fresno State). He had plenty of teams recruiting him out of JC but had only one offer then (maybe because he signed early). It is one thing to say teams are recruiting you and another to actually have offers.

This guy is not going to take this team anywhere.

My thought on life is "if you don't see it (job, marriage, quarterback) working out in the long run/future why continue with it. Cut your losses and go a different direction."

There is my dr. phil moment.

Go Big Red

Posted by: JayBr on October 30, 2009 12:02PM CST
Outside The Box....Thanks, appreciate that. I just think that we as fans have chosen to overlook some big things. For instance, not only did Holt not hang on to that TD pass vs V Tech, but he was one of the turnovers against Iowa State as well. To get back to being a big time program, Holt has to make both those plays....period. The other thing that's overlooked is Helu's fumbles. His first fumble was on the first play....way to set the tone for the game! If I remember correctly, Iowa State got their field goal after that turnover. Iowa State doesn't get that field goal, we win. Then, of course, he fumbles in the red zone later in the game. So, somebody please tell me why we are so focused on the quarterback position, when in every loss we've had, we can point to a play from someone other than the quarterback who is the one who "didn't get it done". By my count, it looks like that includes Holt, Helu, and Paul. I don't find Z Lee in there. We weren't even this hard on Ganz last year with a pick 6 vs V Tech and a game costing INT vs T Tech??

Posted by: Denver Bob on October 30, 2009 12:03PM CST
Crouch was the last QB NU had that could occasionally win a game almost by himself. Having watched the ISU debacle one last time fefore deleting, Lee just didn't play all that bad.

If the skill players cleanup their play against Baylor, the spin will be:

A. Lee beats Baylor - "gets mojo back"
B. Green beats Baylor - "sparks Huskers"

Posted by: Big Red in Big D 007 on October 30, 2009 12:03PM CST
Attended my first game in '63 and have followed NU my whole life. Never heard this much bickering since recently. Everyone has an opinion and you know what they say about that. I trusted TO when he made the decision to hire BO and allow him to pick his own staff, so lets give it enough time to work. Things will get better soon, have faith husker fans. I can tell you one thing, my neighbors to the east (crazy cajuns) sure would love to have BO back.

Posted by: Outside The Box on October 30, 2009 12:07PM CST
Miller - so by that logic, we should have exclusively used Marlon Lucky (5 stars, offers from USC and others) over Roy Helu (3 stars, offers from no Top 10 programs), even though Roy proved himself to be the better player in practice and on the field?

Recruiting is not the be all and end all.

Just thought of a sign for gameday:

"Dear Baylor offense:

you're about to get Suh-ed!"

Posted by: Exiled_in_VT on October 30, 2009 12:10PM CST
Big D, you've never heard the bickering before because it was a different era.
Back then, every town had one loser at the coffee shop yelling and cursing about Dr. Tom's poor coaching. But they were the only idiot in town and everyone in town knew to ignore them.
Now, every town idiot can congregate online and suddenly it seems like the whole town is an idiot.

Posted by: ScottF on October 30, 2009 12:11PM CST
If Green is not good enough to be starting ahead of Lee at this point, perhaps the coaches should be out recruiting more QBs for next year than just young Gabbert who appears to be more of a "Lee" type QB than a "Green" type QB.

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 12:12PM CST
It's great you have that attitude Country Husker.

But let's not forget that college football is a business and a big time sport.

These players came to a school like NE because they expected to play at a certain level, and WANTED...I repeat WANTED TO BE UNDER the BIG LIGHTS.

They knew the deal, they knew exactly what they were getting into.

THEY want the big time stage and WANT to BE
adored, praised and have highlights on sports center, their likeness in a video game, some kid wearing their jersey number, they get off on the fact that grown men sit around and argue about them half the day.

Kinda fooling yourself if you think they didn't know that if they took on this challenge that they best step the hell up and perform or find something else to do with their time.

This is Nebraska football and we have no time for wussies who don't want to or cannot get it done.

If you can't then transfer and find some tiddly winks to play with. If you won't, then quit and save everyone the trouble.

Sorry, NE athletes, especially the football players are held accountable and expected to strap it up every dang day...and anything less is quite unacceptable to me.

Give it everything you've got effort wise or quit and free up a spot for someone who will.

Mistakes, don't bother me...not caring that you're making mistakes, not getting it done and not correcting the mistakes does bother me.

You and some others may feel the need to coddle these football players, but I don't.

They have quite a few big time privileges and opportunities, free education in some cases and are basically treated like some kind of god when they are getting it done...so they best be able to suck it the heck up when they aren't getting it done.

No hand holding around here, get it done eventually or sit the heck down.

That's sports and that's football on just about every level.

It's not patty cake or hopscotch.

Can anyone in Lincoln confirm or disconfirm the rumor that our offensive players have been listening to their fat little girlfriends instead of the coaching staff? I heard that from Mike Leach.

Posted by: MattMiller23 on October 30, 2009 12:16PM CST
Outside the box- not at all. Lee didn't even have any other offers. I'm not talking about stars. I could care less about stars.

In a position such as quarterback you need good players. I'm just saying there was a reason he was not recruited at all.

Posted by: drivebyposter on October 30, 2009 12:16PM CST
Matt,

You are not an informed poster.

Zac committed early because he wanted to be a husker period.

4 star, and #1 qb in JC that year. Huskers were lucky to get him. The OC is terrible and thats a fact.

Green will be a nice qb some day. But not today or tomorrow.

The oline is a piece of junk and you know it.

Even with that being said, the real problem is that Watson is predictable and has been for many years. The DC of the big 12 eat him alive.

And thats a fact.

Jaybr, tommy, Otb, country Husker, thanks for the support. Unfortunatley the QB is the center of attention. Peyton Manning would not be Peyton Manning with out the Support of his TEAM. But that, as a good friend of mine says, "Life without a Wife". I donb't mind the cries for Green over Lee. that has gone on for ever. But i do get upset with saying the coaches have favorites. And making veiled assumptions that they would rather lose that not play "their guy".

And if we don't think they are listening check out the tunnel walk last week.

Just relax and go play your game guys. I love ya, regardless.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on October 30, 2009 12:31PM CST
All the talk about the QB. Many of us here think we have the answer. The #2 guy is always the most popular if the top guy does not live up to expectations. While I would like to see Green given the chance, he is still just a Freshan so there will be Freshman mistakes for sure. I don't think you play him for the future, when you do that, it's like you are giving up on the season. Not right in my view. You play the guy who the Coaches think gives us the best chance to win. Lee did not play all that bad last week. He did not lose the game. I am just saying we need to just sit back and relax a little.

There was a great article on Dilliard in our local paper today, a great read. This guy has been through alot, and to see him perservere and work through all the adversity is a testament to him, the coaches and his family.

Absurd. I expect crazy talk from Watson... but Marvin Sanders is better than that. Then he goes on to say "everybody talks about that one play at VT..." YEah... that was bad one... but that was one of MANY plays where we needed better play from our safety.

It's like the Zac Lee thing. OHanlon reads the plays well and is in the right spot. That doesn't help us if he can't make any plays. He has no ball skills at all.

I would think that being in the right spot would be expected... not praised.

What do you want Marvin to say Step, that he is a bad player. He is sticking up for his players. He sees things we don't see. When you are DB your mistakes are magified. Because you are where everyone can see them.

When I look at our stats they are amoung the best in the Nation. If our offensive had scord just three more points we wouild be undefeated. I am not going to knock the defense. They have played great this year.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 12:40PM CST
Yeah, I was kinda thinkin the same thing on that O'Hanlon stuff. He does do well in run support most of the time, but he'd probably be like 3rd string on any other top 10 team. I know he tries hard and walked-on. Big deal.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 12:42PM CST
Pelini and Watson have made some fairly signifigant changes at Wide Receiver this week. And announced them up front. Why not quarterback? That tells me something. But I am one of the few that are listening. As much as I like Cody, he has not earned the trust of the coaches yet.

Maybe by Saturday, but if not, so be it.

Posted by: Guido on October 30, 2009 12:44PM CST
Why wouldn't the Baylor players and fans think they will win? They are waering their rose colored glasses too and recently Nebraska's offense hasn't given them any reason to believe that it will be a blowout. And, if it isn't a blowout, anything is possible with a few big plays and/or mistakes (be it turnovers or ill-advised penalties - both of which NU has provided at times this season).

But, the d-line and o-line should both have good games and make the difference, enabling the rest of the team to look very good.

Go Big Uglies!

rluben,

Glad to see you know the players so well. With all that personal information, you must be close as you seem to know who they are and what they think. So, as you are such a good friend, I would think you would be a little more supportive.

So, from your post, Lee should quit half way through his first season as a starter because he isn't where you think he should be? Doesn't meet your expectations?

These are students, for chris' sakes, and not all of them , in fact most of them will not be playing on Sundays, so let's make those college years as miserable as possible for them, eh?

Try not to take the losses so hard, man, if you feel that bad after a Husker loss, how do you think it feels to them. I ain't molly-coddling anybody, but they don't need dopes like us fans telling them they suck at every opportunity. They got coaches that are paid to do that.

With all that said up above in my rant, I still love to see a guy like Zak turn it around and play like his coaches, teammates and most fans thought he was capable of playing.

No way in heck am I ever going to coddle a big time college programs athlete though.

Don't want to be under the spotlight and be criticized by fans and the media then go to

Country Husker, TommyO, and JayBr.......thanks for the good posts. It's refreshing to see that there are some good fans left. These fans that boo their team and want coaching changes only after a year and a half really make me embarrassed to be a Husker Fan. What happened to the pre-season when everybody was on board that our Husker culture had taken a hit and we trusted Bo to get us to where we need to be......pretty short lived IMO. All you fans have done is alienated the coaches and players from us and the press.

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 12:57PM CST
lol like I care if they are students or not, they are playing ball at a highly competitive level and knew exactly what they were getting into and what would be expected of them.

I sure don't feel sorry for them, this isn't midget ball, time to step it up or go where you can make a difference like Mr Witt attempted to do.

Never said I gave up on Lee yet or the final verdict is in on his young career, but Cody Green he's not athletically.

Still not going to coddle college athletes, that's for their parents to do.

Go to tiddly wink state if you don't want to be expected to perform at a certain level and can't handle expectations.

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 1:13PM CST
What's that got to do with being a fan?

Someone else's kid isn't my job to coddle and tell him how great he's doing when in actuality that player is stinking the joint up and playing like a lost little kid.

If it was my kid, of course I'd have to play the parent card and lie to them and tell them it's ok and it's not their fault, it's everyone else and they are just out to get him blah blah blah...he doesn't suck, it's all the other players, coaches and fans who suck.

The fact some people think that players need their hands held all day really cracks me up.

Oh I have an idea, let's just ignore the fact NE has a football team and lose all interest in if they play at a competitive level or not.

Let's not expect anything from an athlete who has received a scholarship to play for NE or has been allowed to walk on.

Set your expectations low, expect nothing and be mildly unpleasantly surprised when nothing is exactly what you get.

Go Big Low Expectations.

Ohh...don't criticize a player, they are fragile beings who only came to play big time College ball because they didn't want to be noticed ...just wanted left alone and be anonymous to the outside world.

YEAH RIGHT.

lol w/e

Obviously you don't read even less than you don't post around here here Country Husker.

I spent all last year having the players backs and part of this yr, but now it's time to take the pacifier away, time for them to stand up on their own.

If they can't handle some negativity and some fan criticism when they play like crap then they are soft and I don't want them on the field FOR SURE, not maybe.

rluben....I agree....and that's why I think Bo sent a couple of receivers to the scout team. Holt hangs on to the ball at V Tech, we win....Helu hangs on the ball last week, we are at the 5 yard line.....Holt hangs on to the ball last week, he's got room to run. I would guess that as Bo is watching film, he has to be shaking his head. We are soft, and we would be soft in any scheme (and again I confess I'm not crazy about our scheme), but our upperclassmen, especially on offense, are just soft. That will change....we continue to watch it change and the guys that Bo thinks can most help us are recruited and coached.

Country...don't be so wishy washy...how do you feel about this? LOL

I watched the first half of ISU again last night. Take away 9 plays (HUGE if) and the offense actually looked pretty good. Play calling was good. Zac had a few mis throws but really looked fairly decent and threw just as many (or more) aces as misfires.

Ray, I have to disagree about opinions of Cody being based on meaningful performance. He's been in at garbage time in two games and has had his share of tipped balls and potential picks. Not saying he might not be the man, only that none of the game experience so far meant enough to call him the man. I hope he gets meaningful playing time Saturday. If he doesn't, I hope its because Zac is lighting up the scoreboard so much that Cody's playing time is plentiful but not when the game is close.

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 1:28PM CST
I mean, I'd be willing to volunteer and come down to Lincoln on game days or during the week if practice is too hard.

I'd set up a player daycare, when things are too tough for them, they can come in and I'll rock them to sleep and sing them lullabyes and happy songs, paint them happy little cloud pictures, pat them on the head and tell them it's going to be alright.

Heck if that's all it takes to get this thing turned totally around, then I'm all in.

I lied, I'd be willing to do some coddling for the good of all Husker Nation.

yes, college football is big time business. But players aren't paid. No need to coddle, I agree there. Also no need to boo the team. No one comes to boo us at our jobs (okay, maybe my boss) and we get paid. No player is entitled to a starting job or needs us to blow smoke up their behinds but they don't deserve any abuse either, unless they knocked up your daughter.

Busiekcreek so you been to the carwash huh?
Guido, good post the rose colored glasses thing, Yes Baylor says hey if ISU can beat them in Lincoln why not us in Waco? Sports is so much in the psychic of mindsets also. Big difference in attitude for Baylor let's say if having to face the Huskers after VT or Misery game and now? It makes Baylor more formidable opponent when they believe this is winable contest for them? Now they haven't exactly rallied together with great results since injury to their talented young QB, so lingering doubts also as can they do it without his prescence? So we know we can defense them well, but question is in this game if we score early and easily this will end up in a rout for us but if we continue to struggle leaving them in the game towards the end, were in trouble? The tale of two situations, I prefer the first scenario? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! I have game as NU breaks out on offense 31 to Baylor 13

IH))) He's supposed to be honest... like every other man.

Say you love the kid... say he plays his heart out... say he's usually in the right position... and say he's the best we have... but don't slap the fan base in the face with a statement like "he's one of the best safeties anywhere." Thats absurd. No other way to put it.

Like I said... I expect that nonsense from Watson... Marvin Sanders is better than that.

I wonder is Florida would trade their safeties for Marvin's boy OHanlon?

Hey LSU... you out there? Would you trade Chad Jones for Matt OHanlon?

Do you thin Tennessee would give up Berry for OHanlon?

Do you think Texas would give up Earl Thomas for OHanlon?

Marvin can spin it how he likes... but to put him as one of the "best safeties anywhere"... is bizarre.

Silicon, I have to agree with Ray and kindly disagree with you as one person I put alot of stock in for his opinion is GBRTX, esp. at QB his position as a player in college and many years of coaching in rich fertile grounds of Texas. By the way he does alot of scouting for his program as well. And he has been straight forward about his assessment. Thinks Lee is about where he is and maybe progresses some but his thoughts on Green are this guy has more of the tangibles and intangibles to perform at higher levels? I accept GBRTX, assessment and believe Green is the future moreso than Lee, I also think if they keep playing Lee with more experience that they have put this season moreso in the hands of defense sustaining a close game and winning with what they perceive as less mistakes made by Lee for chances of winning? Put it on the defense thing and play conservative with Lee and so on? I think this theory works as you assessed with ISU game if we don't have that amount of turnovers and maybe conceding the OU game for the sake of this philosophy of winning all other remaining games? But honestly Green will be there for next season as the starter as buying into GBRTX's assessment where Lee is only going to give you so much and Green can take it to another level for the future kind of thing? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Most of the knocks on Lee could be repeated about Cody's TT performance. He had flashes of greatness and flashes of throwing 3 INTs. I absolutely want to see Green on the field tomorrow for significant minutes.

I just like stirring up some controversy and heated discussions from time to time.

That was fun.

Anyone who's been here for awhile knows I usually have the players backs, but I can't just ignore the fact that some of them aren't getting it done, no matter how much I like them as people.

Doesn't mean I don't hope they get it figured out, but the best players play, that's just big time college ball and how it's done.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 2:12PM CST
Silicon, I think you're right as they will ride out this season knowing there is a learning curve for Green also? And I think that their D can keep them even in the OU game and with less mistakes and Lee grading out is guess perfect in Watts book, he is their starter for the season? That might work and it might be extremely flawed as well, in both Kansas teams or CU could just simply outscore us in remaining games if O doesn't begin to gel and perform? So Green and mistakes no doubt but here is the question does he rise above his mistakes to give us better performances in same games for offensive output? No one knows for sure without his having the opportunity? And mop up role doesn't allow to see him in same set of circumstances? You know people don't like it but in Sunbelt games maybe a rotation of QB's for those games since neither was starter last year wouldn't have been such a bad concept for evaluation for this season? As now you want to still win the North and go to a bowl etc. GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Agreed Wrester and that's why I want to see him get a full half in a game. Show his performance over a full half, not even 2nd and 4th quarter. Let him get a rhythm. Let the offense get in his rhythm. See how he bounces back the next drive after a mistake. See what crazy plays he makes and where his strengths are. Only then will we know if we should dedicate a lot of the rest of the season to him.

Predictible or not, Watson's plays called against ISU were working and guys were either dropping or fumbling balls. Given the turnovers and the field position of those turnovers, a good D2 team could have come close to the Huskers last week.

I look for a better day tomorrow (35-13).

Wrestler. I use this link. It works quite well:

I have a friend in Lincoln who, thru her church, teaches English to dependents of Chinese Students at UNL and she hasn't made much headway with your language. Also, a friend just returned from 3 months teaching English there and he knows more Chinese that the Lincoln gal does.

Well people, thanks for the entertaining day. My family returned to Lincoln this AM and I have much straightening and repairing to do.

Earnie, if you think HK is bad, some of these remote places in the mainland can serve you anything? The other day I had grass juice supposed to make you healthy? Smelled like where a rat did his thing? Speaking of rats, in southern China and I am sure if any of you served in Vietnam, know this they're huge? Cats are small in China and rats scare the cats? I sometimes go where lots of rubbish is at night after workouts and try to catch one and kick the crap out of it. Hate those critters? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Country Husker that is a Nutria, the state varmit of Louisiana. Brought in long ago by the McIllheny family of Tabasco fame to Avery Island. Can't remember why he did. They have taken over.

Ernie and others had a long discussion last night of the beneficial nutrients in said critter and how Denny's had a Nutria Blue Plate special.

Ok, I have now had a great laugh today, the mental image of a buffed-up american wrestler prowling dumps in China to find some big-assed rat and kick the crap out of it. I'm sorry, but that is just waaaaay too funny. Thanks, I needed that.

I reckon the rat population in China suffers mightily following each of our sad losses.

Drill Instructor, that's exactly what I have been trying to tell so many on here. That the teaching of chinese is way over simplified to what it really is in china for making it somewhat easier for americans. As so many dialects somany inflections to same sound can mean different. There are families here with kids same spelling of names and how you inflect the pronunications is how you differentiate to whom your speaking too? Sounds confusing it is? Learning the intricacies of speaking correctly different dialects and mastering the characters is a life long project for sure! GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Thanks, Busie, now I have had a great laugh at wrestlers expense, and have learned a little Louisana history. So, other than all the 'our team sucks' stuff, this blog seems enlightening.

Except I thought it might be a prarie dog and now I got that Bruce Hornsby song stuck in my head.

Country Husker I hope I entertained you? But its true like Gofor2 or No Nothing hunting for elk this is my chinese version of hunting for me. I know it sounds crazy but a whole different way of life on this side of the world in many ways. And no I don't think I do anything to eliminate the rat population here for each kicked one probably a 100 born at that moment. So no quotas to how many dead rats you can get that's the good thing, breaking no laws believe me! Probably somebody's dinner later I suspect? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Wrestler - We use to hunt the rats at the grain elevator. Trust me, some of those buggers could have stood tall with their Chinese Brothers.

That is a damn funny image though. You chasing a rat down the streets. If they turn on you and are bigger than you, then what?

I hope we put the hurt on those rats from Waco.

flea - if you are Watson and you have options for HC'g positions after this load of crap, what would you be doing. I could also come from a different angle. Bo has to take responsibility for the failures, so what would he be doing at the end of the year when he's evaluating the situation?

I would be surprised to see Wats here for another year. I hope that's not the case. It would be nice to see all the coaches sticking together for at least another year or two.

Thanks wrestler, I just enjoyed the image. Not poking fun, cause I would probably enjoy the heck out of it, also. Shooting rats and mice running out of the corn crib with a 22 in my youth was the best thing about scoping ear corn. ........ok, now I'm showing my age..........

Is this still the football players diaper and bib service baba blog?

Or can I say that Zak Lee needs to make the distance between his eyebrows about a 1/4 wider and then he will be able to be more better at throwing on the run.

Those brows are throwing his balance off and making it hard to square up and deliver the ball accurately.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 3:09PM CST
TommyOC yes rats in grain elevators have alot to feed on for sure? So far no rat bigger than me yet? But I have seen them the size of a small cat? Exageration, I don't think so find some old Nam vets and they will tell you about rat sizes over here? I have special boots I use when hunting my hunting gear as some of them have some sharp teeth so no want them to bite off my toes! Hey this is sth. Just in case there are some reading challeged her, I am not supporting Zac Lee. He has not gotten it done. And i agree that he needs to step up. What I am saying is that the coaches are playing the best player they have available at this point in time. And that is subject to change weekly.

And I also realize that Not all of the problems belong to Zac. But he is the man in the high profile position. that is where the heat goes, right, wrong, or indifferent.

And country, You are reading Rulben wrong about the glass deal, but that is just me.

TommyOC I had a chance to go to Vietnam with GF for her business opportunities some months ago. And we got into Da Nang, and I had a uncle a marine die there. PT - I sent you an e-mail conserning the tailgate.

It's amazing how we have got off track the past several weeks. I don't have all the answers. Don't pretend to. This year we have seen a defense that is very good. We have an offense that is young and a work in progress. We have done some good things but also have been very inconsistent on offense, and our Red Zone failures are well documented. But, I think at times we overanalyze things. We have a tough game Saturday, and hopefully we can find a spark and get it done on offense. Whomever the QB is, I hope our offense produces. That means no silly penalities, hang on to the ball for heavens sake and catch it. Play aggressive. Do that, we will come home a winner. Our Coaches know the problems, and understand so much better than we do.

I always believe and have faith that things will get rolling.

Go Big Red.

A blind man can see that there are things that need to be fixed with the Huskers.....about everyone on here would agree to that.

What is the big difference on here is how and when things get fixed. I want to leave it to the coaches and give them the time they need to work through the problems in a classy professional way........whereas others choose to boo the team and scream for coach's heads and demand instant changes.

PT Husker..you can't always go by just what they see in practice. the coaches themselves said last week before the iowa state game that we had a great practice and they wish the game was played today. well eight turnovers and a loss later they found out that practice is different than real gametime. they wont know about cody until he has been tested in a real game start to finish. Spent a week in Da-Lat at the Sofitel DaLat Palace. Really had a great time there. We took over this place down town for the entire day and had a great time with the people who worked there. It was unreal. The people in Vietman treated us with great respect. I was surprised really. Some parts of cities, you would need to take a wide birth around from the sidewalks into the streets though, or you'd never get past the lovely ladies who wanted you to come in for a little chat and libations. :)

Sorry to stir the pot, TommyOC, I reckon I need to remember something I learned but keep forgetting.

"What you say about others says more about you than them"

Anyway, I'll give, Zac ain't looked good, nor has the offense the last 2 games and the first 3 quarters of Mizzou, so I'll admit, I don't think it is just a fluke, we have problems.

But that said, I like our coaches. I think Big Red has future potential for the first time in years, and they are my team, win or lose, so GO BIG RED!

We were patient with Frank, it got us a pounding in Boulder (on my 30th birthday no less), a horrible outing at the Rose Bowl and the next season. Then came He Who Stands with Chart and his clue less side kick with his “can’t drag a sick ho off a low bed” defense. We were patient and while the signs were there from the beginning, it wasn’t until 2007 that it was obvious to all. I know there were a lot of vocal people from the beginning that wanted HWSC gone after one year ( I got on the band wagon after year three), in hindsight they were on target.

Now during the two preceding regimes we had player issues: Newcomb vs. Crouch, Davis vs. Cory Ross, Lucky vs. Jackson, Lucky vs. Helu, Keller vs. Ganz, and now we have Lee vs. Green. I’m sure there were more but that’s what I remember. The Crouch Newcomb might be a stretch but we have a fan base that has seen a once mighty program pulled down to mediocrity then down to utter ineptitude. Now we have this staff and I have faith that it will turn around, I know it can’t happen overnight (I was hoping though). But, when you see what’s going on with the offense, it needs to be pointed out now as being unacceptable. There really is no excuse.

Country - Feel free to stir away. Just giving you fair warning of what will come. I've had a few opportunities over the past few years to learn that opinions are always going to vary. I agree we have some potential. I'd be willing to bet we're going to see some big changes coming in the future. Will that be good? I don't know. I like the ability to push the defensive line backwards and make 3 -4 yards when it's needed, but I also like to score on a big play as well. If Watson is gone after this season. will the offense improve? We'll see. They will still be my team, just like you said.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 3:43PM CST
won't argue that point Taco. Some kids are gamers that for sure. I am just saying that they are making the best decision they can base on the information that is in front of them. Maybe to much emphasis on reads etc but I can't fault to much the soundness of their thinking. They see these kids every day and spent coultless hours discussing what they see.

It is not the haphazard decision that some saeem to think.

Yes the ladies in Vietnam and all parts of Asia and you being an American or your choice beef to them? TommyOC, may I ask what kind of work do you do? Just curious that it takes you to this part of the world? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! All of Asia has a dichotomy of feelings towards Americans just speaking in general as love/hate thing. Younger people love USA and its music and movies and other ways of life and power etc. So they try to emulate us to some degrees. While older ones here in China more indoctrinated to things of the past see us in more of a cynical way? Meaning envy and mistrust etc. In China their horrid time of shame was what they went under in WW2 from Japan? So again loved us for victory in WW2 and ending the war and suffering here. Yet ddespised somewhat for helping Japan after the war and with Mao turning communist. But younger people much prefer learning and knowing more about USA than any other country in Western World. GBR! w/e I thought it was pile on Zak day, just doing my part.

I haven't really even ever dogged him directly that I can remember. Not even close to what some have over the last month nothing serious anyways 'cept maybe saying he's not getting it done which isn't a slam...JUST FACTS.

In fact I'm pretty sure I've defended him before, but I'm not going to coddle his weak performances even if he played decent against ISU, it was ISU not Texas...hardly impressive.

I don't care what players they play, but whoever they play I sure hope starts playing some decent ball at all positions on O and D.

And would you rush the punter once in awhile sheesh, what moron coaches players to just take off every dang time to set up the return never ever checking for fakes or keeping a punt team honest?

Ohhh I was critical, I'm not a real fan...oooooh oh ahhhhh!!

Only real fans are allowed to second guess the immortals.

Us lowly non boot lickers should just shut up and be happy we get to watch mediocrity because if not for mediocrity we would have had no football to watch at all the last several years.

Go Big Mediocrity!! Who cares about fundamentals, toughness, execution, mental discipline and the things required to perform at a high level...just keep playing like a bunch of little girls boys on O...we still love ya.

Don't worry about learning how to be tough and run the ball down anyone's throat, it's over rated, continue on as wussies if ya want, if that's easier for you.

Wouldn't want football to be hard for you or anything....I'm here for you, come cry on my shoulder because Bo is too hard on you or they are expecting you to get tough n hit someone.

It's Baylor, luckily you won't have to hit anyone to win....I know that's the way you prefer it fellas.

Coddle coddle...coddle coddle coddle...coddle coddle.

Just be your usually soft selves, commit 15 penalties, sloppy execution, drop balls, run sloppy routes, half a$$ effort blocking...sorry to expect anything other than that softness from you.

Poor wittle foosball players.

Having expectations thrust upon you...that's just unfair.

Poor poor fellas.

I never knew about the Sand Hills of Nebraska, never been to the state but this blog and wonderful people have made me want to go there. Do some photography and if I'm lucky get to sit in Memorial Stadium and shout " Go Big Red"

Let me ask this: what happens if Cody does start or at least plays for a good percentage and lights it up??? Does that mean critism was warrented?? Just curious.

Sometimes a good competent person is not a leader for a certain group, it happens all the time.

I'm with rluben, it comes with the territory. Lead, follow or get out of the way.

Posted by: rluben on October 30, 2009 3:56PM CST
lol I'm just messing with you Country fried fan.

You said you read and never post.

I'm always glass half full, but I'm still going to call out little girly men playing like soft girly boys.

Last yr they got a pass because of the changes, and I knew that no one had been taught how to be physical and hit someone.

This yr I don't feel like giving any soft players a free pass halfway through the season.

Tired of watching soft wussy ball Offense and sorry soft execution, nonsense play calling and lazy fundamentals, lackadaisically sound technique wise receivers not making simple catches or simple plays.

But that's just me 5.5 yrs of wussy ball has had that effect on me...I'm sick and tired of it.

Especially when wussy ball is performed and executed by wussies afraid to hit someone or execute a dang play.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 3:57PM CST
If Cody starts and does well. Don't look for that to change the rest of the season. I think he'll get what little confidence he might need from that and continue on from there.

There is no reason to look back at what, coulda, woulda, shoulda happened.

I'll get on board with the kid and hope they win out. If for any reason he doesn't get it done, I'll hope that Zac can back him up and do the job. That's what is called getting it done as a "team."

Go Huskers!

I don't condone booing, typically, but I never thought I would see what I did against TT or ISU either. If the defense can make that big of a turn around in year 2 the offense had ought to able to not look like what we've all seen on tv. I'm sure Bo isn't blind and I know he can't throw Watt's and Cotton under the bus but this is an almost complete meltdown on O. Tomorrow will be a decisive moment for the O staff.

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 4:06PM CST
Thanks Wresler. There are some very wise people who just wonder about on the internet. I've never considered myself to be one of them.

I'm online most of the time and post between doing other things. I try to be non-judgmental. It's not always easy. I've had some issues with Bo since he came on board, but what good will it do me to rip on the guy? I've really wanted to rip Big Barney a new one more than once, but that won't help. Watson, Gilmore, Saunders, the list goes on. They are all trying. The thing that bothers me is that division and decension will cause things to break apart and this staff needed more than a couple years of continuity to make it strong. I'm not sure we'll see that now. With the failings of the offense, I'm sure that changes are in the wind. Oh well, it will still be the Huskers, no matter who's around the program.

I felt the same way when the last staff was not getting it done. That was the worst defense I can remember, but I sent Cosgrove a few encouraging emails giving him my support. Until a coach is no longer a coach, I'll give them support. Just the way I am.

PT that is being tacky now.

Posted by: Guido on October 30, 2009 4:11PM CST
PT - Yes - I received the invite for the tailgate. Has the start time of the game been announced yet?

The start time will determine who I am able to bring as my guest (wife or son).

I still need to secure a couple of tickets though ...

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 30, 2009 4:11PM CST
'Skers 30 (ten field goals)
Bears 10

Posted by: Busiekcreek on October 30, 2009 4:12PM CST
Pt, how much snow do you have now. It went from 80 degrees at luch to 56 now. Bout to wash away from the rain.

Posted by: Tennessee-Husker87 on October 30, 2009 4:13PM CST
PT Husker: Not chance, my sources say that Gilmore and Watson were putting a little extra work on the vertical game ... three eggs were intercepted by Sanders and Carl P. and the receivers dropped the rest!!

Here's to a power running game tomorrow ...

GBR!

Damn Flea,
You think Mr. Henry leg can hold out? Or may they will let Suh take a few kicks?

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 4:14PM CST
34 - 14 Cornshuckers!

That's what my 86 year old pappy back in Hastings has called them all my life. God Bless Him.

Why no prediction thread? Well my guess is because Sip and BC are in Waco, where the Internet hasn't been invented yet.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:16PM CST
TommyOC, you hit on a excellent point as Coach Bo is coming on after dismal failures so some see a continuation and grow impatent, hate to bring it up but same situation at OU between Barry and Bob but we went through more coaches? I think Bo is the right guy, defense is stellar one of the very best in country now that was a huge transformation to you know the D two years ago? I heard someone say it on here put Joey and offense of 2 years ago and D of today and bingo NC game playing great Tebow and company? So offense is shaky and that is a internal matter for Coach Bo and even TO greatest man in college football to figure out? I think Bo is right for the job but sometimes the CEO has to make changes over time? I am not advocating anything but forget BC and give Coach Bo the years for his own recruiting and adjusting staff etc. I won't judge him too harshly for first 4 years we are in our 2nd now? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

i'm thinking Baylor could be pitching another upset this week for Neb. Score Neb- 14 and Baylor 10. Yep. Thats an upset in my book. In reality we should win this game by atleast 30 points. Unfortunately we don't have the offensive playmakers we had a year ago. Hey Watson, start Green and Trey and run the ball 60-40 and don't go checking out and into a pass. Just run the play and let your guys get a few bruises. Come on Watson, let them become men.

Posted by: fleaflicker on October 30, 2009 4:17PM CST
NBR.......Nope, Cody Green drop kicks 3 of 'em.

Posted by: PT Husker on October 30, 2009 4:17PM CST
Busie, we got somewhere betweena foot and 15 inches here last night.. It has warmed into the 40+ range and is melting very quickly.

Our farmer types need a break. Corn Harvest is way behind and this will push it back for probably a week or more. It would suck to see your entire years income, or most of it sitting there going to pot and not be able to do anything about it.

I'm out before they lock me in this old building. Go Big Red

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:21PM CST
PT and his eggs always a lurking never know what PT is up too? But the four that did hit the house were right on the numbers! (TD!) I'll take 4 TD's this game! GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 4:23PM CST
Wrestler...is that why their older folks put lead in our paint? :)

Busie....I see that the Harvard professor and the cop just sat down for another beer in Cambridge a day or so ago...maybe beer will bring us closer together.

TommyOC...game is on Versus

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:24PM CST
No snow here in HK, sunny and warm? PT maybe tomorrow spend sometime at the beach? Too bad, PT? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Agree Wrestler - Bo needs the time to learn and develop as well. He was hired for his ability to get the NU defense back in shape and he's proven to be a great talent when it comes to that. Bo will learn and develop into a strong head coach. This is his first go round as one. He lacks some experience. His input on offense has been to suggest how Wats should attack the opponents defense he believes they'll bring to the party. Isn't that input on the game plan? I'd have to say that game plan and play calling problems are also within the HC's job description. I don't give him a pass on much of anything really. But I do have confidence that if we're all patient, he'll improve and so will this team. I still say we could be 7-0 right now if they would have been a better prepared team. The mistakes are on both players and coaches. rluben is right on. Nobody needs to get a pass, but they can get support. That's not that hard to give them.

It is a blizzard in Cozad /gothenburg / Lexington, but the sun is shining in Kearney. I hope the sun shines on our offense tomorrow.

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 4:30PM CST
Flea,
You mean Cody can kick too, maybe thats why we haven't used him as QB there saving him for kicks incase Henry gets hurt.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:30PM CST
Exile, you should start a prediction topic on forum side for the game?
Silicon good one lead in the paint, speaking of paint, now you probably know how exciting I think watching golf on TV is? Like watching paint dry! Sorry! GBR! Zhou Da Hong! Somehow you have bad luck on the driving range as you get next to these teenage phenom girls that out drive you, and then you probably think has this game passed me by? Minature golf is a viable alternative don't you think? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Both Paul Rhoads of ISU and Howard Schnellenberger commented post game that the Huskers were very well coached and I didn't get the impression that they were blowing smoke. Bo and co will learn if we give them time and we will.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on October 30, 2009 4:32PM CST
Bo is one of the best coaches in the country and many teams would love to have him. Tommy OC is exactly right. We have a bright future with Bo and he will learn from mistakes. Please let us win tomorrow. Throw out the stats I just want a W to relieve the monkey on all of our backs.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 4:35PM CST
Wrestler...if they put lead in our paint, imagine what they put in the lead that they ship us! Coworker's wife is ABC and her parents live in China part time. He says that everyone over there knows to ask for the "good" paint when painting the house

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:35PM CST
Nish good one! Cody backup QB and Kicker and anything else? Maybe cornerback also? Backup of course? We don't play him just keep him as a backup? This way his warranty status is not in danger? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! Hey how about backup coach and backup AD, also, just a thought

Posted by: NishBigRed on October 30, 2009 4:36PM CST
I have no monkey on my back otherwise I would spank him.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:38PM CST
I want a win to save my pending marriage next summer? NU you have alot riding on this game? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! I promised a win to my GF, Huskers have to come through? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! No win and their goes my Sugarmama!

Posted by: TJ1 on October 30, 2009 4:39PM CST
For all of us that want Green to get a shot tomorrow, how forgiving are we going to be about interceptions or bumbled snaps or audibles...etc?? If we get our wish no take backs.

I think he might have an interception or two but that is the only thing that really worries me. With this D we can survive that. We can't survive the anemic O we've seen through the last serveral games. Its not all on Lee but maybe this kid can make them follow him.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on October 30, 2009 4:43PM CST
If Green comes out and throws a bunch of ints then he will get yanked too. I don't forsee us chucking the ball all over and I also don't forsee a lot of 3rd and longs with him in the game. I am also bad at predicting anything with the huskers lately so there is not much credibility to those statements.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 4:45PM CST
Its interesting how many posts I've seen this week where people say, "I watched the game again and we really moved the ball at will for the most part". I watched first half last night and not much stopped us other than ourselves with the TOs. Early in the game, the commentators noted ISU was about 12th in the country in takeaways. If you read the posts, you would have the impression that our offense had 150 yards total.

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:46PM CST
Yep, Silicon stories are true about quality of products as you best know your way around here for buying things or watchout! And for me a foreigner not so much in HK but in mainland if I want to buy sth. I let my GF go in and negotiate pricing as they see I am a foreigner doesn't matter that I can speak language or not pricing goes up way sometimes! I teach business english classes at university and we have a mentoring programs for students at university to work with multinational type companies. Some have told me that QC issues for products exported are a nightmare for people? As it is the nature of chinese to be clever and sneaky at times? Not saying anything that you all don't know also? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! It is always a good thing to be dealing with representation that you can trust over in this part of the world?

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 4:47PM CST
If we win. I'm predicting we win out. If we don't, I'm predicting we win out. How's that for optimism.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on October 30, 2009 4:52PM CST
Tommy...the only way to be more optimistic would be to say they overturn a past loss... any scholarship violations for VT/TT/ISU?

Posted by: Wrestler on October 30, 2009 4:55PM CST
Expectations should be high so ones can rise and meet them if our expectations gets compromised then maybe we play to the lower standards of acceptance? I remember when Sonny former coach came to CSU I was coaching at OTC in Springs and shortly after having some success in Ft.Collins, Miami came searching for a new HC, Sonny being one they wanted to talk too? He said no not interested? Why he was content at CSU and their expectations somewhat less than Miami's so therefore less pressure and more job security? GBR! Zhou Da Hong! So TommyOC being a Husker fan with such a storied history of course your expectations should be high, I would be disappointed if they weren't?

Posted by: TommyOC on October 30, 2009 5:44PM CST
Wrestler - My expectations for everything in life are high. But I understand failure and grow from my own. I expect the same from our boys on the field and their coaches on the sidelines. Never having experienced failure, it would be really difficult to appreciate success. I've had both and learned from both.

Posted by: JayBr on October 30, 2009 6:10PM CST
Goldenrod Husker.....good post! I'm still laughing at your last line.....I'm in the same boat.

Posted by: belacoz on October 30, 2009 9:12PM CST
So, Helu is recovered? Pierre Allen had a bum knee and is now 100%? Hickman was a little banged up, and will now play? I don't believe the coaches when they talk about injuries. Let's see who plays tomorrow and how much.

p.s. I think Lee still starts, but Green gets some snaps.

p.p.s. We've been hearing a lot about "running by committee" , but have actually seen very little of that. Let's see how well we distribute carries among our RBs.
