Bo says 'no' to permanent site
Posted by: Steve Sipple on November 30, 2009 at 8:13PM CST

Texas coach Mack Brown's in favor of keeping the Big 12 title game at Cowboys Stadium on a permanent basis.

Bo Pelini's response?

"Mack would say that because he's from Texas," Pelini said Monday. "I'm not for that."

Would Bo prefer a Dallas-Kansas City rotation?

"Whatever," Pelini said. "Somewhere up in the North. I mean, somewhere where it's a little bit closer for our fans to get to the game.

"I mean, I'm sure the stadium's a nice venue. I haven't been there yet. But it's not the only stadium ever built, either."

Why not leave it in Texas and the Longhorns can play in it every year and the rest of the Big 12 can fight for the right to play Texas.

What do you guys think about playing the game in CO at the new Mile High? At least it would be close to home.

Posted by: Dirtysker on November 30, 2009 8:20PM CST
True that Bo!

Posted by: JTHF on November 30, 2009 8:37PM CST
Let's see if I remember this right...the Texas teams joined the Big 8 to make the Big 12. Why should we make the Cowboys stadium the permanent site. I'm in favor of rotating it between several sites or better yet, play it at the north home field one year and the south home field the next year. I'm sure that wouldn't work though because of smaller stadiums. Definitely not in Texas every year though.

The Horns are arrogant and self-absorbed. I'm glad MB chose this week to make that point!

St. Louis Rams stadium anybody. Close to the middle of the conference.

Posted by: Inbread on November 30, 2009 8:42PM CST
Nish, I actually LIKE that idea, seriously. ITs a nice enough stadium, Denver is a big time town, and them southie's would suffer the rath of the weather every now and then.

Posted by: Inbread on November 30, 2009 8:43PM CST
4-eva, STL is kinda out in right field to me.....

Posted by: Albino on November 30, 2009 8:47PM CST
Let's make it like the baseball all-star game: make it & take it. Whichever school won the previous B12 Championship gets to pick.

How I long for the days of the Big 8. To me, that was a selfish wish. The day is here when working people with monthly bills to pay cannot afford to go to a game like this. Can't imagine what the ticket prices must be. I have always felt the Texas Longhorns seemed to feel entitled to whatever they wanted. It was the same thing when they were in the Southwest Conference.
Go Big Red
Go Gators

LOL
Give 'em L Bo.

It should rotate, I'm thinking every state should get a shot at the revenue.
A game in
1) Lincoln
2) Arrowhead for MU,KU,KSU
3)Mile high CU
4)OU and OSU rotate
5)Jerry dome TX schools
6)ISU, ?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 8:52PM CST
I was trying to think of a Stadium that would give the North an advantage or at least be closer for the Northern folks.
The other place they have played the game is in KC at Arrow Head, correct? I guess us Northern Folks just are stadium challenged. I got a suggestion how about Vegas. Great central location, and there is always plenty of rooms? lol

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 30, 2009 8:53PM CST
I actually wouldn't put it past Jerry Jones to somehow work it out so that the game will be played there every year.

We were talking a bit about the coaches and their different styles on that other thread.

Welp... here's a name for you. Anybody remember Greg Lloyd? Former Steelers great OLB? He's a coaching intern with the Eagles. They say he really tearing it up. He'll get his chance soon enough.

Anyways... his style is... compassion. Talks low and soft. Goes one on one and makes sure the player understand what hes saying. Talks to you like a man. Players love his style.

Look for him in the near future to be a good defensive coach in the NFL.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 30, 2009 9:00PM CST

Busie, you are so right about Texas feeling entitled. They were always treating the Razorbacks like someone from the wrong side of the tracks yet we seemed to be about the only team to beat them more than all of those other wimpy SW conference Texas teams.
Dog gone it, Texas joined OUR Conference after theirs was dismantled not the other way around. Oh well guess we have to take the bad attitude with the good.
Sure hope Bo gets our Huskers to the place where Texas is afraid, very afraid to even be on the same field with us.GBR!!!

Here I am in the middle of the SEC, rooting for Nebraska with all my heart.

I go and use the Big XII championship trophy as my avatar and not a blooming soul has noticed. Most on here are bemoaning the fact that we "probably won't win" but hope to play a good game.

We are not "winged" chickens. Remember what it was like to soar with eagles. That is still possible. Go Big Red, beat Texas

Posted by: JTHF on November 30, 2009 9:20PM CST
We were in KC the last time NE played OU for the championship and it was so cold and some of the seats still had snow on them. It took two days to warm up from that. Of course we wouldn't have noticed the cold so much if we had been winning. I would rather play where it wasn't quite that bad but that is a chance you take when you play outdoors this far north in December.

Did any of you read the article Husker Extra did with Gary Barnett after we beat Oklahoma? I think Sipple did it. It let us see how a coach saw the game. Barnett was very impressed with Pelini's game plan to beat Oklahoma. Very good article.
You got to know that Pelini is going to have a game plan and it could happen. Which one of you would bet that we have the better coach--- I would. I want Texas to become very afraid of the Huskers and pinning for the old Calahan days.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 10:31PM CST
I too think it should rotate between north and south. That said, never underestimate Jerry Jones' ability to get what he wants. If he wants the Big XII CG in the Boss Hogg Bowl every year...well, there's a pretty good chance he'll get it. I'm not sayin' it's right, I'm just sayin'...

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 10:32PM CST
TomOs,
Where would you have the game when it was in the North.

I suggested the new Mile High Staduim in CO.
It a decent venue and would give the Nothern teams a slight advantage.

Posted by: Ender on November 30, 2009 10:33PM CST
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet.. Because of Oklahoma State's loss, the Big 12 is only going to have 1 team in a BCS game... that is unless NU wins.. then we will get an automatic bid and texas will get an at large bid.. The significance is that the Big 12 gets an additional 5 mil (or so) if we were to win... the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that money will talk and we may get a couple calls come our way.. interesting thought anyway

Posted by: Albino on November 30, 2009 10:33PM CST
Make it & take it. That way we can have the B12C game in Lincoln year after year.

GBR

Posted by: Albino on November 30, 2009 10:35PM CST
Interesting possiblity, Ender. Hope you're right.

I mean, I'd rather have the game called fairly but, if it is going to be skewed, that's the direction to skew it.

GBR

Posted by: TomOs on November 30, 2009 10:36PM CST
Nish in the champion of that winning team.. north or south.. let them play to the elements of the team that won that division.. rotate from year to year.. CU to TX .. or NU to OU.. just the year that it happens to be

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 10:36PM CST
Most of the decision makers in the conference, as well as the media, probably don't want a game of this magnitude being played in a venue where the weather could have a definite possibility of affecting the outcome of the game. That said, I think they would be more inclined to rotate between St. Louis and Dallas. The problem is that there are other venues who want a piece of the pie. Reliant in Houston, the AlamoDome, Arrowhead...I don't think they would ever go for a home and home rotation.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 10:44PM CST
Ender, what you say does make alot of sense. Money does talk, expecially in Texas. I guess it's a matter of whether or not the Big XII would rather have the NCG exposure or the money. I'm thinkin' they would rather have the NCG exposure. Didn't mean to spoil it for anyone. Our luck would be that we would get the same crew that worked the TT game in Lincoln. Probably one of the most poorly officiated games I've seen in awhile.

Posted by: TomOs on November 30, 2009 10:45PM CST
GBR .. the outcome of the confernce champs is depended upon the games played during the year.. ex... NU and MU... why should it change for the North and South championship.. make it equal.. our weather up north is different than down south.. let them try and play in winter weather like we have too... and not in a condusive mild climate.. bring them up here in a cold windy day.. and see who's the better team...

Posted by: Sandhill on November 30, 2009 10:47PM CST
Nish, it's Sandhill because our ranch sits on the edge of the sandhills. There is a hill in the pasture next to our house where you can see the beginning of the
Elkhorn River valley to the north and east and the sandhills to the south and west. God's country but we have way to many deer again. Hubby's letting a new guy come in to hunt only does. The ones who lease the hunting are mostly trophy hunters and do not seem all that interested in getting permits for does.
I think we should rotate between the North and the South for the B12 Championship game. And yeah, I'd love to see the North have those pansy South teams play out doors. Actually it would not bother the Oklahoma teams too much, they can get some cold snaps down there but I would love to see Texas play in the frigid North. GBR!!

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 10:54PM CST
I don't disagree with you TomOz, but we don't get to make the decisions. Sadly, Texas does seem to get their way more often than not. I'm all for rotating between the three Texas sites and Arrowhead and Mile High. I can promise you the Texas schools would all whine like elementary school girls if they had to play in either one of those venues in December.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 11:01PM CST

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:01PM CST
The HS kids I've been around absolutely hate to play in cold weather and I'm talking about North Texas cold weather...40's and 50's. Some of them would be rendered completely helpless if they had to play in temperatures of the 30's, 20's or even the teens. Some may not even want to leave the locker room. That's also an element that effects our recruiting.

Nish, I heard something about one of their kids being arrested but haven't seen anything on it. I was told he was driving with a flat tire and was stopped to check it out. I guess he smelled like he had been drinking and that led to the discovery of a controlled substance of some type. Not sure who it was though. On the info front...well, no one said a word about the game to me today. I was kind of surprised. Not even a word from my oldest son or my brother in law, avid Longhorn fans.

Night all, hope we upset the BCS applecart. It's been way to tame this year.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

UT pisses me off. They will probably end up getting their way yet again!

When the Big 12 was formed they wanted the offices moved to the Dallas area... Nebraska didn't. Texas got their way. Then we wanted to make the Big 8 comish the Big 12 Comish but UT wanted the SWC comish to be the Big 12 Comish... Texas yet again got their way. Then they wanted to put limits on scholarships and such... NU didn't want to do that. But Texas yet again got their way.

If you ask me Texas is scared of the North and Nebraska in pariticular. So they have to make rules and such to get any advantage they can.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 11:17PM CST
I use to kind of root for TX. Now not so much.
I rooted for them to beat USC a couple years ago.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:19PM CST
You are right on all points Hsb2. The only way to gain the upper hand with them is to beat them and do it consistently, which is a tall order, but it can be done. The schools down here see what is on the horizon at Nebraska which is why they want the permanent site in Dallas while they think they still have leverage over the north schools. They won't admit it, but they do fear what the Huskers could become and it worries them.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:22PM CST
I did root for them to beat USC as well which was the smart play for me being that my wife, kids and her side of the family are all Longhorn fans. Truth be told...I'm for whoever is playing USC.

Posted by: huskers4_eva on November 30, 2009 11:24PM CST
Yeah, I'm really worried about this game on Saturday. I mean I want to say the Huskers can win this game, but its one of those feelings in my gut that says we're just gonna get beat. The kind where you have a little glimpse into the future and you see yourself watching the game and its just bad all over, offensively, defensively, and special teams. I like seeing the upbeat attitude on many of these blogs, but I'm really worried about this game, like McCoy is gonna take this chance and just run with it without us even knowing what hit us. I just hope my gut feeling is wrong.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 11:29PM CST
GBR,
Kind of funny, I'm always cheering for the Under dog. When USC was bad I hope they would get their program back on track. Now USC is the prorgam along with the Horns.

Now I have never or every will root for Gangster U.

Posted by: Wrestler on November 30, 2009 11:32PM CST
I can promise you the Texas schools would all whine like elementary school girls if they had to play in either one of those venues in December.

GBRTX and Coach, SEC and other southern teams have an advantage to bowl games on that premise also? Meaning those teams play majority of games in those conditions as bowl games through entire season? Bobby Bowden always stated if I play up north let it be in Sept. not later in Oct. or Nov.? Weather makes a difference? I am not a Big 10 fan but Ohio State playing USC in late Oct. or Nov. could be different? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 30, 2009 11:35PM CST
Where is the SEC Championship played?

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:36PM CST
I actually feel pretty good about it. Could we get beat? Sure, but if we do I feel like it will just be because they have more talent than we do and sometimes it's just too tall of an order to hold all that talent down. But...to me the key will be how we approach Colt McCoy. My gut says that Mack will want to showcase him as much as possible to help him win the Heisman, in essence try to duplicate his last performance. Typically though, when you try to duplicate something it doesn't turn out exactly the way you planned for it to. The key to me is to keep McCoy in the pocket, not give him a chance to run. They haven't had a great running game, so if we can shut that down and make them one dimensional I think good things will happen. I know, I know...the passing game is their strength. True, but...when you know it's pass you can play it alot differently than when you don't know. Something tells me I digress...do you get what I'm trying to say?

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:40PM CST
Howdy Professor! You're right about all that. ESPN is reporting that Bowden will retire tomorrow. It seems FSU pres. is telling him he can come back but with lesser power.

Nish, it's at the Georgia Dome.

Posted by: Ender on November 30, 2009 11:41PM CST
I think the fact that we've held something like 12 out of the last 13 QB's to less then 50% completion percentage bodes well for us.. if we can shut down their relatively poor run game and keep mccoy under 50% i like our chances

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 30, 2009 11:49PM CST
The one thing that everyone needs to understand...the Texas Longhorns are "not" the gods of football. When you line up against them and you hit them in the mouth on every play they will react just like all of the other "mortal" teams we have played. Offensively they are a little better than OU, defensively they are about the same as OU. I'm sure that our guys are watching some Texas/OU film and will come to realize that they can beat them if they show up to play. I don't care how good you are, if the other team wants it more than you do there's a good chance that they will get it. I can't see Bo failing to make these guys believe that they can shock the football world and walk away with a Big XII championship and a trip to a BCS bowl.

Well boys it's late, school tomorrow, so I had better get to bed. Be back tomorrow night. Night all.

Nite GBR,
Take care. Don't let those little maggots get to you. lol

Posted by: TomOs on December 1, 2009 12:02AM CST
GBR.. u r right.. they are not all that.. the big problem I see is that ... that have improved the last part of the season.. where we have not improved that much.. I think it is a big hill we have to climb to beat them.. and we have accomplished what we set out to from the beginning of the season..Big 12 North champs.. they are beatable.. my gut says.. this could be another OU like last year.. if we dont retain our poise for the first 2 quarters or so.. jmo

Posted by: TomOs on December 1, 2009 12:14AM CST
and we have not met a QB.. like Colt.. during the year.. he has another dimension.. running, passing and experince.. he is the key to stopping.. and if set free.. will be hard to stay up with in scoring.. we have a better D .. but along ways from their O , compared to our O.. we need to stay with them thru 3 quarters.. if we can than anything can happen..

Busie was Adam Lambert just off screen in that shot of Tim Tebow in your gallery?

Posted by: Albino on December 1, 2009 12:29AM CST
For virtually every team we have played, their offense has underperformed. Plus, there is Low and PT's secret weapon. These are sources of optimism!

Good night.

Rotate the thing between KC and Dallas. That seems fair.
As far as the game goes, Texas has to have a lousy game and Nebraska has to have an exceptional game on both offense and defense. We are badly outmatched. But anything is possible.

this is what happens when your family actually claims your kissing cousins from the south. kinda like when you give a mouse a cookie....

The "DOG" was @ the Harvest House Hotel & the game! Sat/stood next to a cute gal from Blair who now lives in Omaha. Told her to contact me via this webb site. FAT CHANCE! LOL The Champ game should rotate between St. Louie & Dallas (Arlington) - both neutral sites (kind of) & indoor stadiums. Reliant Stadium (Houston) could also be in the mix. This obviously would help DONU in recruiting in TX & MO!

Thats BS HOW ABOUT VIKINGS STADIUM HOW THEY LIKE THAT SPOILED LITTLE COWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be just like playing Miami in the Orange Bowl again, year after year. Remember when we played UF in 96 in the Fiesta, they cried because we had such a good following.

I've been called: Nazi, douche bag, idiot, stupid, geezer(self applied), and now gay on here. LOL

GoFor2, I am appalled at the fact that your forgot my label, Doc Holiday? From the Turkey Rustling Gang?

Huskers in one of the biggest upsets of the season, as the Horns are going down! GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Posted by: Sandhill on December 1, 2009 8:21AM CST
Ouch! no no, too much truth and good observations, I want my "kool aid".
I really do hope we are able to prevent a blow out. The coaches are doing their jobs to progress this program away from where it was just two years ago but there is still a long road back.
Does anyone know if we have a quarterback in this year's recruiting class? If we do what is he like, what are the facts? We were fortunate to have Gantz and Taylor and this year really stresses the importance of having that position held by a more talented person. Lee is trying his best but sometimes that is no enough.

Posted by: Wrestler on December 1, 2009 8:23AM CST
Since Nish mentioned Vegas as a central site, how about HK for the championship? At GBRTX or Coach's favorite shootout place the HK Corral? Just a thought? The Turkey Rustling Gang can entertain at halftime? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

TEXAS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT ALL THAT IS BS HOW ABOUT VIKINGS STADIUM THERES GOOD WEATHER IN THERE TO LONGHORN CRY BABYS

Posted by: Wrestler on December 1, 2009 8:45AM CST
No Nothing, kids and athletes who played their football in growing up in the northern tier and some midwestern locations are more suited for inclement weather of playing than kids growing up in the south never experiencing things such as snow or other harsh conditions?

If you look at regions of locations and numbers of kids on rosters and majority of where they come from it makes a difference? I don't care what facilities they practice in? Bobby Bowden is a wise man and he stated if I am going to play an opponent up north let it be in September not late October or November? He recognizes the difference in probability of winning tied to weather conditions and wether his athletes are at an advantage or disadvantage?

So on this issue I respectfully disagree and state quite simply that if more bowl games were played in December and January in northern states with outdoor stadiums you would have seen a difference in stats to the outcomes of many games played?

Southern teams have an advantage in most bowl games played quite simple logic to me? GBR! Zhou Da Hong!

Should it be an excuse, no, you overcome advantages or disadvantages for victory in all sports?

This is simply anotherr attempt of Texas to control the Big 12. I am sure Jerry World is a nice venue and deserves the Big 12 title game on a regular basis, some sort of a rotation. To force the loser of the Big title game (in most instances) to play there twice a year in post season games is not fair to the teams or the fans, particulary when the loser is a non Texas team.

Posted by: Outside The Box on December 1, 2009 9:00AM CST
Amen to Bo's comment. While the recruiting impact would be nice, it stinks for the North to be playng a de facto road game for the title.

I'm in favor of a four site rotation between KC, JerryWorld, Denver, and Houston/San Antonio.

Posted by: PT Husker on December 1, 2009 9:10AM CST
I don't understand how Texas does it. Last time I counted there are 4 schools from Texas in the conference. that leaves 8 votes. Do the rest of us hate each other so much that we can't band together and stop this stuff.

If the other schools would slap them down once in a while, the foolishness would stop.

Posted by: PT Husker on December 1, 2009 9:14AM CST
When tis conferece was formed, the Big 8 officials were so hungry for the Texas money that they fell all over themselves making concessions to them so they would come to our party.

Well it has become their party. Not only in football but all other sports as well.

Maybe we need a commissioner with some backbone. We have parity in sports sort of, why not parity in conference deesions.

Posted by: Doc_Husker on December 1, 2009 9:25AM CST
I love Bo's comment "...it's not the only stadium ever built, either"

We're going to play football and Bo doesn't care if it's on the moon or at Pershing. Doesn't matter. GBR!!

Posted by: Robka on December 1, 2009 10:47AM CST
Big surprise Mack would call for leaving the game in Texas. I would much rather see the game in St Louis after the ARTIC bowl I had to stand through in KC last time we were there, but I would prefer we just reduce the conference to 9 teams and everyone play everyone once and thus have a true conference championship. These championship games r trap games and Texas is the mouse this year;)
