Down with the Big 12 Texas conference bam

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 11:03AM CST
82'd It?

Posted by: Guido on March 9, 2010 11:05AM CST
At least Beebe remembers some of what he learned in Business 101. Rotation will keep things competitive and hopefully keep some costs down since these locations have to bid on getting the tournaments or championship games.

Posted by: Outside The Box on March 9, 2010 11:08AM CST
You're right. I am happy with this news.

Besides, this will all be a moot point when moves to the Big 10, goes to the PAC 10 and this conference merges with the Mountain West.

Posted by: Outside The Box on March 9, 2010 11:18AM CST
FYI - if you try to place snarky comments in brackets, the site thinks you're smart enough to do html and blows up your post.

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on March 9, 2010 11:18AM CST
I never have liked these Big 12 post season conference BB tournaments or the conference championship football game. The regular season should be enough to determine who goes where for what, in my opinion.

If not, then why play a regular season to begin with? Let's just have exhibition games before the tournaments. That way we would only have one true champion instead of a champion for the regular season and another for the tournament.

Ok, so the money is the bottom line, or is it the incessant refusal to just limit a season to a reasonable number of games? Whatever, the reason, it won't change anytime soon, but that doesn't make it right.

Posted by: IM_Hip_Hop on March 9, 2010 12:14PM CST
texas and all of their money and influence shouldn't be able to bully the conference into having the game at cowpie stadium permanently. Logic and fairness make it painfully clear that the Big 12 championship game needs to alternate every year between a north site (Arrowhead is perfect - make those wimpy south teams come play in some real man's football weather) and a south site (cowpie stadium is ok). Any other arrangement is plain stupid.

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on March 9, 2010 12:21PM CST
I see this as "yes, as of right now it's not going to stay in one place" but only because they haven't had that meeting yet to decide where to put them. Makes all the North people happy yet doesn't exclude the idea of it happening to the South people. Very clever Beebe but I'm onto you.

Posted by: Buzz on March 9, 2010 12:38PM CST
I was hoping he would announce a permanent site at mile high stadium

Posted by: Fitzy on March 9, 2010 12:56PM CST
Seems how this is a dream session...

I wish they would move the Big 12 Football Championship to Hawaii... and the big 12 conference will subsidize airfare and lodging for the fans of the two teams that make it to ensure a sellout.

OH YEAHhHHHH.

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on March 9, 2010 1:41PM CST
Ha ha so it's a pretty slow day and I saw this when trollin' around on the LJS site. Have to laugh that Omaha is 39th and got a D+. Maybe that explains BJ and Richard. We were 52 here in Lincoln, got a C.

Posted by: SuperHusker17 on March 9, 2010 1:47PM CST
Damn, tried to make the link all fancy that you could actually click on but I'm not smart enough. Careful what all you copy and paste if you decide to check it out

Posted by: RocketHusker on March 9, 2010 1:51PM CST
I approve, there shouldn't be anchor sites. Case closed in my opinion.

Posted by: Insidious1 on March 9, 2010 2:40PM CST
i got my $20 on Osborne looking over Beebe's shoulder saying 'If Texas gets the Football Championship game in Jerryworld every year, were off the the Big 11, to make it the big 12... you can have the southern 6 and whoever else decides to remain.

Iowa st. Mizzou, and both Kansas's would love to go to the big 10 i bet. Colorado just wants to go to the Pac 10 to have a competitor in 'bowling'.. i hear Oregon is ia viable rival in that regard. What say you Trashman, is Oregon good enough to bowl w/ Colorado?

Bring the Prima Dona's up north in the snow..

Posted by: Insidious1 on March 9, 2010 2:45PM CST
Is it just me or does anyone else miss Quentine Castille?

Every year it seems that a RB that isn't being talked about sneaks into the fold and 'wows' us. Is it this year for Dontravious Robinson?

Go Big Guided Steamroller!

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 2:45PM CST
Insid

It will be a champion of tree to decide for sure.

It would likely be a pick em'.

Posted by: Insidious1 on March 9, 2010 2:52PM CST
Btw,

Anyone know if there is a 'midline' triple option that anyone is running where the read is the 3, out of the shotgun 2 back set. Or maybe even a Triple opt screen thingy... with Marcus Mendoza in the slot, Dontravious Robinson as the 'I' and Rex running some WildCat. ??? (baylor did a bit of this last year b4 griffin was hurt, but from a 4 wide set >< )

Posted by: Bumarooskie on March 9, 2010 2:52PM CST
That is good news -- for now. Never underestimate the arm twisting power of $$$ to change a hard "no" into a firm "yes."

My druthers would be to rotate the football championship between a site in the South and a site in the North. I don't care where in the South (could be Jerryworld and/or the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio) but I'd like to see Mile High Stadium in Denver get into the rotation along with Arrowhead.

Posted by: Insidious1 on March 9, 2010 3:07PM CST
that would be a good rotation Buma!

Fair for all... hits almost all the corners of the Conference.

If all things worked out perfect.. Nebraska could get a NFL team based out of Linoma.. nothing HUGE, just a small stadium ala Oregons new stadium. Nebraksa has sold out for 40 some odd years.... is gearing its tax to 'development' and if the right person owned it, i'm sure it could be a money makin venture. Think 65k max capacity lottery team that picks up say... the likes of Matt O'hanlon, That MLB from Iowa St., Etc. Call it Kansas City Lite.. Bam.

North Rotation anyone? Rosenblatt replacement? 101 indeed...

Posted by: Insidious1 on March 9, 2010 3:17PM CST
say this hypothetical owner was "IN" with Osborne, supported his teamworks mentoring program with seats longterm for Inner City kids of both Omaha and Lincoln and the stadium had a 'shortage' of seating because they stay 'true' to a large seating donation program. Hrm..

202.

Posted by: PT Husker on March 9, 2010 4:40PM CST
Guess I don't have a dog in this fight cause Odds are I won't be going anyway. An all weather facility makes sense for the fans. comfort sells tickets.

It also makes sense to rotate between divisions just for fairness.

What to the other major conferences do. Such as SEC.?

It is all about Money however. If Jones bids the most he probably wins.

Posted by: Wrestler on March 9, 2010 4:52PM CST
No anchor sites, is what it should be, always in the Big 12? We will see, if Beebe caves in later on or not? To be continued?

Beebe, doing anything aggressively, about future TV contracts and revenues, for the Big 12?

Or, waiting for others, to out hustle him to the dinner table, thus getting the scraps, sort of thing? I think our Big 12 leadership, on a admin level, has not competed well, against the likes of SEC, and Big 10 and so on?

A Patton, he isn't? More a Custer type, in my way of thinking?

GBR! Zhou Da Hong! GB12! Zhou Da Shier!

HK weather report, going on 7 am Wed. morning. 8 degrees Celsius cold very cold, oh the dread of winter? Or 46 degrees Fahrenheit.

Posted by: Wrestler on March 9, 2010 5:02PM CST
DBP ALERT!

I saw on the Yahoo internet page just now this?

15 Fantastic Higher Education Values

3 schools from Big 12 were included, of these 15? CU and OU and TX.A&M? Interesting reading?

GBR! Zhou Da Hong! GB12! Zhou Da Shier!

7 am in HK Wed., got to bicycle for classes and office time, might be on later, with a student, if one so desires to interact will all of you, on the blog at the time? Did this a couple of times before, and both had fun?

Posted by: PT Husker on March 9, 2010 5:19PM CST
We will be waiting Wrestler. The way it has been you might be the only one here.

Posted by: Gofor2 on March 9, 2010 5:33PM CST
The anchor deal is BS.
Every state should get a shot of hosting these things. Just another case of the rich trying to get richer(Dallas and Jimmy) off the backs of equal partners in the conference. That revenue that the cities make off food, drink, and board for the event should be available to all members.

Posted by: drivebyposter on March 9, 2010 5:43PM CST
super17

Boulder did not make the list.

Shocking.

Lot of drunk texans though

Posted by: PT Husker on March 9, 2010 5:44PM CST
Unfortunately, the conference could care less who benefits other than themselves. Business and politics is all about greed.

Posted by: Gofor2 on March 9, 2010 6:30PM CST
How come they don't have it in Denver?
Big 12 FB championship at mile high, I liked that above KC.
Too cold for the Texans?

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 6:36PM CST
Drunk Texans or cooked Boulderlanders.
These are not less or more than the other.

Sheesh.

I vote we vote for the new arena and try to get the votes to have it there.

Trash
We could all stay with the Driver and have him whine and dine us and protect us from the locals.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on March 9, 2010 6:43PM CST
Here's an idea, have it at Denver or KC and on those years just make sure Texas doesn't win the South....problem solved

Posted by: Gofor2 on March 9, 2010 6:44PM CST
If Texas doesn't get the call though, they make take their ball and go to another conference

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 6:47PM CST
Gofor

DBP protect us?!!? With his cane or golf clubs? And it would have to be prior to 4:19 or we'd be doomed for sure.

I would guess his daughters would be a better defense choice.

PT, SEC has conference championship game in Atlanta in the Georgia Dome every year. No problems, though it is not near as "Jerryious" as the one in Dallas. Football-all eyes are on Atlanta. Baseball-all eyes are on Omaha.

Posted by: Low Country Husker on March 9, 2010 7:00PM CST
In other news who in their right mind wants to go to NY in Dec to watch a bowl game? The Big 12 commish really screwed the pooch on this one....yankee stadium or not that is NOT a good bowl by any stretch of the imagination.

Posted by: big red 1 on March 9, 2010 7:27PM CST
PT: I think Ucon can be beat but we are going to have to do it from off the bench.Everyone brings their a game and title is in the bag.

Posted by: drivebyposter on March 9, 2010 7:46PM CST
pt the uconnies look pretty dang good

sheesh

Posted by: BleedingRed on March 9, 2010 8:04PM CST
UCONN is no different than any other team. They are just better than almost every other team.

The better the players that I would play against the better I would play.

If the Women get excited to play against the best and they elevate their game accordingly, they will do just fine. I would be absolutely chomping at the bit to get playing time against them.

Come on Regionals! I am getting so excited to watch this team play.

Posted by: PT Husker on March 9, 2010 8:21PM CST
That team is beyond good. VA got it to 6 and then bam it was over... I have never seen a team men or women that can just take over like that. It is truly amazing.

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 8:23PM CST
During the streak of the UCONN women, they have won by an average of 32.5 points, and only trailed in a little over 3 minutes, 30 secs.

They are at a completely different level folks, even to our NU women.

Kinda like ol' man river DBP trying to hit his little "beep beep" drives with 007 and myself.

Hi or What's up! My name is Yeu Mei, I am a female student here at university. I am in Professor's office now. I am from Chongqing China, mainland China is my hometown. I am a junior and I major in Microeconomics.

I enjoy Professor's business class very much! Many students audit his classes especially female. I never seen such a strong man in all my life. He is an exciting and funny teacher also.

He likes to compare Chinese business sector to USA business sector. Very interesting lectures. I saw his wife to be one day at our university. She is one of the most beautiful women in all of China. They make a good looking couple.

I like swimming and hiking. China has many beautiful places for doing both. Hong Kong is a very exciting and beautiful city.

My baba is a lawyer and my mama works for CCTV. That is the television station in mainland China. She helps produce entertainment shows on TV.

I want to work for a multinational company someday. Professor says this is a sports blog about University of Nebraska college football. I know not soccer but American football. I know nothing about sorry! I know now where Nebraska is? As Professor has a map of USA on his wall in his office so he showed me. I hope to travel someday to USA and want to see Washington DC. I also want to see NYC and see a play on broadway.

Professor said you call yourselves Big Red? That's good as it is also China's color too!
So I like University of Nebraska then. Maybe I can visit someday. I wish you all happiness! Yeu Mei

We smoke UCONN, no problemo

Posted by: Trashman on March 9, 2010 8:46PM CST
Gofor

I already knew that was you. Marty, Doc and myself talked to you in the Delorean.

It was funny to us because we told you that you needed to start saving your brown locks and facial hair cuttings to "reattach" in the future. You were in the "young gun ignore mode".

The glasses were keepers however, something must of went wrong there.

Posted by: BleedingRed on March 9, 2010 8:47PM CST
UCONN may be good, great and even seen as unbeatable. There is almost always a way to win. There are things that they surely do better than others. There are times when they relax only to turn it on once the other team has expended a large amount of energy. Take away what they want and give them what they do not. Put them in situations that they are not comfortable with. Give their bench players access to the lane but deny that access to the starters that want to live there. Play hard against their proven outside shooters and make the unproven beat you.

There are so many things that can be done on so many levels.

Coach Yori is not only a really good Coach. She is very smart and wise as well. She will figure out how to get it done.

Posted by: big red 1 on March 9, 2010 8:48PM CST
Uconn's ticket will be punched. Nebraska sports all the way.

Yeu Mei

Welcome to the blog. It is a very strange group here. Non stranger than the man who calls himself trashman. Most people who "talk" on here use there profession as their screen name.

Trash, as we call him for short, is a perfect example. If you check out all the names you will see what I mean.

The muscles on your professor are glued on plastic. Really, take a close look. It is how they do it in the "land of the wagon drivers" and that is the truth.

Enjoy your classes. People like PT and NONO and Ray, went to their last class about 50 years ago.

Go Big China

DBP is as old as PT, Ray and Nono, but is in age paralysis.

I blame myself for the" ride of the Delorean".

Your professor does not use glue for the muscles. It is actually "mighty putty". DBP is dated in this and probably still uses "elmers".

BR, it is now past 7 pm HK time? I just got back from workout with FU?

Yeu Mei, told me you sent a message in garbled chinese from a translator package of some software in USA?

As Coach, experienced with us the packages you have often in USA, are very simple and not practical to spoken language here? They also can be confusing, as "Pinyin" is a roman alphabet system, adapted for chinese characters?

And combos sometimes, are confusing or means sth. entirely different, to the different dialects spoken here, in Putonghua or Guangdonghua? So not easy to plug in some phrases, and have meaning?

Yeu Mei, said she was confused with what you said, and I can see her consternation, as if she tries like GF/KW tried, for Coach in a literal fashion to here, it doesn't make sense?

So she felt bad? I put her on and explained how blog works for message, and had to run to a meeting and on to classes, in afternoon and workout later with FU, so sorry I wasn't there to assist her? By the way all classes unless a chinese class is given in english at our university so students are quite proficient at english? In fact we are connected to three universities for exchange programs in USA and others in differing countries? The 3 are on east coast Cornell, midwest Northwestern and west coast Stanford? So our students study at these universities from time to time? As they also come here?

Now, looking at your wording, and trying to guess, what it is you're intending, from this translation, here is my best guess, to what you wrote BR?

Good afternoon Yeu Mei
Thankyou for taking the time to visit us
we look forward to visiting you
I am sorry about my improper language to you
Your english is very good
I want to study or understand it
Go Big Reds

Believe me, I have to guess your intended phrases, as I can see it confused her, or my GF?KW, when she looked at it tonight, also? Our translations, for chinese in USA is very confusing at times, for chinese here in China, just the way it is?

At least, that is what I think you're trying to say BR, as in guessing on a lot, of the incorrect phrasing?

Well, the men open (and probably close0 their tourney try today. No TV that I am aware of. At least not out here.

Heres to them giving it a good shot. At least play well and let the chips fall where thy may.

You mean you're not on the bandwagon of 'we were just saving up all our good play to be the underdog and win the Big 12 tourney to get into the dance and make a run' school of thought?

Super, That is funny. I will regard keeping it close a victory.

Wrestler,

You almost translated it exactly. That could not have been easy.

I suspected as much about the Pinyin. Even the accentuated marks above each character completely change it's meaning.

Bear in mind that I did that in about 10 minutes and did the best that I could in that time.

The only part that did not come across correctly is that when I said language I meant the Chinese language not the English language. I now know that they follow the word for language with an identifier for the country.

wo bu shi! But I will get it eventually. :)

Bleeding, At least you tried. Nice effort.

sounds like Wrestler was not in the classroom when she got on the blog

Bleeding. wo bu shi sounds suspiciously American!!!!. :)

Posted by: BleedingRed on March 10, 2010 9:44AM CST
Thanks PT.

No one, I would think, wants to butcher anyone's language. I personally really like it when anyone that does not speak English attempts to learn it. I know they are going to butcher it. Heck, most American do, including myself. I always try to help them and encourage them to do so.

I am currently working with a guy from Ecuador. He still enthusiastically uses formal English with impeccable manners. I always ask him if he understands what I am saying when I use a phrase or figure of speech. 95% of the time he does not understand the meaning and 100% of the time I explain it to him in terms that are familiar to him. He always says the same thing. "Thank you my friend." :)

As far as "wo bu shi" you could translate it to mean that I suck. :) I have already learned a lot in just a couple of hours. Give me a few weeks.

Nice article in the OWH about the QB co9mpetition. Watson will be in watch and analyze mode. Lots of opportunities for the younguns to show their stuff.

PT

I like what I'm hearing about Green. Sounds like he'll be the clear cut number 1 starting QB for NU in the fall.

This is good news.

Trash, that could be an assumption on your part. He is the much better athlete. Or it would appear that way.

Which ever way it goes we should have a capable backup this fall so we do not have to go into hibernation if someone gets hurt.

General Lee. Admiral Green. After all Nebraska does have a Navy.

BR, I am sorry, if I came across wrong in my previous comments, above for translation?

Of course, it was cool, that you tried to communicate to her this way? Your intent was great? As you're a class act, so I appreciate the effort? But you got it, the accents and other things, can be confusing? When I first met GF/KW and went back to the States, apart for periods of time, we too tried translators, to extreme headaches of misunderstanding?

The chinese study their own language, both in speaking and writing throughout their entire school careers, as that is how complicated a language, it can be at times? So these software packages of translation and communication sold in USA, after living over here, I now have come to realize, is sort of a joke for all intent and purposes, and 9 times out of 10 confuses the chinese person, as to really what you want to say?

I do appreciate all and their comments to her, but she was caught up in trying to translate, your writing the best that she could BR, and so couldn't respond to others as well in english?

So therefore. it was my fault as this time. I left her alone in my office. due to other commitments, and that was my bad, for not being with her, to help her and soforth? Her english and understanding is quite good?
