Better keep winning
Posted by: Steve Sipple on January 27, 2012 at 9:42AM CST

Here's a pretty good look at ongoing construction of East Stadium, scheduled for completion in 2013.

Work to expand the East Stadium is on schedule, Nebraska associate athletic director John Ingram said Thursday. The mild winter has helped.

Stadium capacity will top 90,000. And you wonder why head coaches are paid so handsomely?

I read the headline on this thread and thought it was probably about Basketball. LOL

Did the dump trucks get a permit to operate on Saturdays? Sundays? Between this project and the new Arena I don't know which is more exciting.

PT - I thought the same thing.

throw - Why do we need to further discuss this Witt story?

Sorry, I guess I'm grumpy this morning. Nothing like having some beers at a bar next to an Iowa fan last night, claming Ferentz is up there for "best coaches in college football." Thank God we beat them in hoops to simmer him down about how awesome Iowa is in general...

PT I had the same thought, lol. I read better keep winning and thought like you did. Congrats to the Husker men and women on their victories last night

It would have been more interesting if it was about Basketball. :)

Sip. What's the latest on who we will be playing on the still open out of conference date next season?

Posted by: Ray in Bellevue on January 27, 2012 11:48AM CST
Iowa is always our main threat, right PT? If we can just win the big post Thanksgiving game, everything will be corny.

PT

I haven't seen any posts from I/H lately. Is he ok?

Posted by: #1Norfolkfan on January 27, 2012 11:54AM CST
Ray: I know he was on the other day and said his check up went well. Have not seen many postings last day or two from him.

Posted by: PT Husker on January 27, 2012 12:59PM CST
Ray, I copy what Norfolk said.

I just think he gets a little tired of some of our "friends" that spend most of their time in left field.

90,000 is great, but could they please do something to liven up the proceedings during the games?

It's like an old church service where you follow the liturgy...stand and clap here, husker power chant there...same old routine every game. You'd think with all the advanced degrees these people have they could come up with a few spontaneous things to do. Or, gasp, maybe the students could actually do some cheers? I was impressed (and irritated) by the OSU section right behind me at the last home BB game. They actually did cheers....10 or 12 different ones.

I was embarrassed. We just sit....and sit....and leave. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has heard other B1G fans remark at the lack of fan atmosphere at our events.

P.S. It's not all about winning to create atmosphere. I was on a recruiting visit to Iowa St. in 2006 and their football student section was amazing....pre-game chants, halftime stuff, etc., etc. We can do better!

Herringbone, I thought UT-Martin spilled the beans months ago about the final non-conference game. I haven't heard a thing since though.

Old School.....I was at a KSU/Misery game this last year at the Little Apple. I was really surprised to see that the Mildcat's spirit was much better than the Huskers. At Lincoln the tunnel walk is really great then.....nothing. Everybody watches the big screens at Nebraska instead of cheering I think.....actually Bo pointed that out to us at the Kansas game last year.

Posted by: fleaflicker on January 27, 2012 4:48PM CST
Another thought........nothing kills a fan's spirit like a dropped pass, stupid penalty, or a fumble....less of course it happens to the other team.

Posted by: TheBigRedTheory on January 27, 2012 8:43PM CST
Old School....you are correct sir! Got back to Lincoln for game a couple years ago (Iowa State, ouch) and the atomosphere was awful. Yeah the game had something to do with it, but it was similar to the Western Michigan game the year before and we won that game. People sit on their hands watching the big screen, you get shushed and asked to sit down if you try to help out the defense (yes, both times I was stuck on the west-side), but besides getting to see friends and having Runzas and Vals, I'd rather go to a watch site out-of-state filled with rabid fans than go to a game in Lincoln again.

Had a much better time going to Wolfpack games in Reno this year, yeah the stadium wasn't packed, but it was filled with spirit! An exciting offense and being able to have a beer at the stadium helps, but come on Huskers, get the students back in good seats, close to the action and get that noise level back up!

Old School...TheBigRedTheory...something has to be done. Our fans are sorry in basketball and football. My 11-year-old son would rather go to Central High School football and basketball games than Nebraska football and basketball games. That is a sad state of affairs but, honestly, I don't blame him. At Central games people cheer and jump and nobody tells you to sit down.

Truthfully, I'm embarrassed when my friends from other cities or my friends who are fans of other teams make fun of our fans. It has complete merit and there's basically nothing I can say. Our environment is the exact opposite of intimidating. I remember games in the past: Colorado, Washington, Oklahoma; games where people yelled and cheered and jumped around in the stands. It was a fun and crazy environment.

I'm sad to say this, but the atmosphere at Husker games sucks.

Posted by: Herringbone on January 28, 2012 11:47AM CST
Drinkin' Wit'... Yeah, I thought it was going to be Tennessee-Martin also. However, in checking their 2012 football schedule, they have listed Austin Peay as their opponent on September 22nd. I suppose they could move it or cancel it but I just find it a bit odd that nothing apparently has been finalized yet on our out of conference game for that date. I was hoping our man 'Sip' would engage in some investigative journalism and get to the bottom of it.

Old School and others...I agree...but at least they don't say...

PLEASE TURN YOUR ATTENTION TO the husker vision screens as much as they used to.

There was one game with kind of an obnoxious guy in the stands. I was a little irritated with him. But after awhile he was just cheering and trying to get others to cheer too...probably was the whole time I just wasn't paying attention...finally someone told him to sit down and shut up. I was like 'really'? Almost started a war, but the rabble rouser was beat down by the angry silent mob.

That could be our new persona!!!
