Beebe comments on Cotton/Jerod-Eddie
Posted by: Brian Rosenthal on November 26, 2010 at 11:27PM CST

Poor Ben Cotton. I'm sure he wishes this subject is never brought up again. But...

In my conversation earlier this evening with Dan Beebe, I asked him about the play involving Cotton and Tony Jerod-Eddie from last Saturday’s game at Texas A&M.

For reference, I asked Beebe about the play in which a player from Texas A&M was “jabbing at the testicles” of a player from Nebraska. I used those exact words, as that is how I interpreted that play.

Was that a play that was reviewable, and was there ever any punishment considered? Does the Big 12 condone such action?

Here’s Beebe’s response:

“Well, first of all, I think if you look at it carefully, it wouldn’t be what you characterized,” he said.

How would Beebe characterize that play, then?

“Well, if you think it was that (jabbing at testicles), we’ll just have to disagree. I don’t think it was in that manner. And didn’t the Nebraska player say he was just trying to get to the ball?”

Yes.

“Yeah.”

Beebe later said the Big 12 does review plays and things that happen throughout the course of a game, and will privately handle some matters with ADs or coaches, telling them they need to pay attention to particular play or actions by some players. He wouldn’t confirm or deny if that was the case with Jerod-Eddie.

I also asked if he would comment on the roughing the passer call against Courtney Osborne.

“No, not specifically. I’m bound by rules not to be able to comment, even if I’d like to, on various penalties.”

Words fail me. Wow.

PS - Excellent reporting, BR. Very well done.

Posted by: husker@ksu on November 26, 2010 11:32PM CST
wow... maybe the Big ten will have a sense of humor and be able to distinguish sarcastic comments properly...

Posted by: Snarky The Lurker on November 26, 2010 11:33PM CST
it's nothing to Danny Boy...it's what Texas does to him prior to each Big 12 meeting. But seriously, you walk up to someone on the street, do that to them and it's a sexual assault charge.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 26, 2010 11:35PM CST
I am sure they will "privately handle" alot of things...

Posted by: huskerfever on November 26, 2010 11:35PM CST
Brian Rosenthal your the man, i like Sip and BC as well but your bluntness is a good quality. Im a fan of yours

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 26, 2010 11:38PM CST
uh, sooo, if he cant comment on various penalties, who can? buck's supposed to stop w him, aint it?

Posted by: GirlLovesHerHuskers on November 26, 2010 11:39PM CST
Words fail me too, Outside the Box. Beebe should just quit while he is ahead. Thanks for asking the questions, BR.

Posted by: ScottF on November 26, 2010 11:40PM CST
Brian- how were you able to talk to Beebe? He wasn't in Lincoln, and since you are from Nebraska, wasn't he afraid to take a call from you as it might have been considered threatening? Is this guy even able to give an intelligent answer to a straight forward question? What he said makes absolutely no sense. No wonder this guy doesn't show up anywhere - if I was that clueless, I wouldn't show up anywhere either.

Posted by: linchusker on November 26, 2010 11:43PM CST
Beebe ceases to amaze me. If Ben Cotton would've said what was really going on, he probably would've been suspended for wrongly accusing someone. Beebe is quickly making himself look foolish. If he's smart he'll quit talking.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 26, 2010 11:44PM CST
HOLY COW!!!!!

Posted by: Bloozman on November 26, 2010 11:46PM CST
This Dan Beebe fella is such a loser!

Posted by: GirlLovesHerHuskers on November 26, 2010 11:47PM CST
You can't blame Cotton for trying to laugh it off. I'm not him, but I personally would have felt really humiliated by that incident and would feel pretty sick about it being played all over the Internet. Is Beebe seriously that dense?

Posted by: Eagz on November 26, 2010 11:51PM CST
Did he say something about handling privates...maybe I heard wrong. And technically, cotton did not specify which ball.

Posted by: linchusker on November 26, 2010 11:52PM CST
girllovesherhuskers--apparantely, yes he is.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 26, 2010 11:55PM CST
Absolutely unbelievable!

Posted by: black&bluehusker on November 26, 2010 11:56PM CST
Would have to agree with Beebe. I didn't see it as a jabbing motion either.

To me it was more crunching twisting motion, a crude attempt at castration.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 26, 2010 11:58PM CST
I'm pretty sure he had a vice grip on his inner thigh, then moved up to the testicles. Not much jabbing going on, so I guess that's ok?

Posted by: GirlLovesHerHuskers on November 26, 2010 11:59PM CST
On a less disgusting note....anyone watching the Boise State/Nevada game? Nevada making a comeback...24-21 BSU with 13 left in the 4th. Go NEVADA!

Posted by: BradRo on November 27, 2010 12:01AM CST
go big cody green!!!!

Posted by: cstxfn on November 27, 2010 12:06AM CST
Mike Sherman was asked about it and said that he talked to his player and told him that he never wanted to see that kind of stuff again. The unofficial story going around College Station is that A&M's finger dipping player ran stadium steps until he was upchucking his socks.

Beebe is such a fool. What's left of the conference should be real proud of him.

Posted by: zaruba on November 27, 2010 12:06AM CST
F U K beebe. ...just a POS liar. . .

Viva la BigTEN

Posted by: boom.roasted on November 27, 2010 12:09AM CST
Haha. Unless Jerod-Eddie thought Ben Cotton was hiding the ball in his anus, he was NOT looking for the ball.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 27, 2010 12:14AM CST
I'll repeat something I said earlier in the week:

Stuff happens in the trenches and piles during a football game - things that can meet the criteria for assualt in the real world.

We were on the receiving end with Cotton, and we have been on the giving end too (just ask Chad May). So you won't hear me complain too much about the lack of call or subsequent punishment.

But for the commissioner to a) comment on this play when he refuses to comment on other plays, b) be blatantly incorrect in his opinion of what happened, and c) obviously misconstrue Ben Cotton's attempt to joke about the situation as a serious justification, it all goes to show the failure of leadership within the Big XII.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 12:15AM CST
Maybe the ref didnt know how to call the infraction at the time: "loose ball foul", "dead ball foul", etc....

Posted by: BradRo on November 27, 2010 12:18AM CST
I hate to say it but....Perlman's got to go; calling out bominator like he did

Posted by: Albino on November 27, 2010 12:19AM CST
Boy, I wouldn't want to have to face Beebe's karma! Starting next Saturday, it'll take him several lifetimes to work through this kind of accumulation.

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:23AM CST
so will beebe be there to present the south winner their trophy. if so seems like a lawsuit would be in order. what a crock this big 12 has become.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 12:24AM CST
Perlman's and OZ's statements were pretty much a PR maneuver to help keep the national media from going to bonkers about BO. Was a good move as ABC cited that stuff today in their whole "make nice" segment. Strategically I think it was ok, though who knows what other motivations Perlman has--save his own skin, prolly.

I dont blame BO at all for his "behavior", but perhaps he'll learn something and grow from it as an HC. Prolly just piss him off more, which is a good thing for us, woohooo!

Posted by: cstxfn on November 27, 2010 12:24AM CST
Outside The Box....You make good points, and sense. I know that stuff happens down there in the trenches. We give and receive. This particular incident was front and center and impossible to ignore. I don't think anybody was expecting much to come of it, except to point out that Nebraska takes some shots that don't get noticed, and gets noticed for some things that could, or should be let go. Beebe was a fool to say what he did about the situation.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 12:25AM CST
Albino, Now that's funny as hell!

Posted by: Albino on November 27, 2010 12:25AM CST
BradRo, Unless Perlman is thinking of taking legal action, and wanted to reduce Bo's confrontations as a factor. As we saw in the move from Big 12 to Big 10, Perlman has a great head for legal strategies. Personally, I hope he's using it now.

Posted by: TX_Husker on November 27, 2010 12:26AM CST
Ohhh...Big Dan..let's have you hit the turf and let Jerod-Edie put his funny fingers between your legs so you can decide what was happeneing you J ACKA SS!!

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:26AM CST
if beebe or any big 12 underling presents a trophy to the south winner then a lawsuit will be coming. get ready beebe you just opened a pandoras box. by the way perlman step up and demand our trophy. we earned it.

Posted by: Eagz on November 27, 2010 12:28AM CST
if there's one blessing in all this, it would be that the eyes of the nation will be watching next week very closely. The thing I wonder is how much revenue could the outcome of that game cost the big xii in the long run. Most people agree that if NU goes undefeated and loses in the CCG....they stood a real good chance to get an at large bid. That would've been two teams in BCS games.

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:30AM CST
i guess the abscent trophy is also part of our fine for leaving. we shall see tomorrow. if the south winner is presented a trophy then boom release the lawyers. beebe brought this on himself. we will be watching.

Posted by: cstxfn on November 27, 2010 12:33AM CST
Old School Husker...... Good point. I was going to watch the OU/OSU game anyway, but it will be interesting to see if a trophy is awarded by a Big XII dipsh.... I mean official.

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:34AM CST
the fix is in guys. beebe and his minions will pull out all the stops in the big 12 chumpionship game. it will be a monumental task to overcome all they will try to screw us with. not imposssible but extremely difficult.

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:36AM CST
lets all watch tomorrow. if the winner is awarded a trophy. beebe should be held responsible. like i said we will be watching.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 12:38AM CST
if fing beebe thinks hes gonna withhold the trophy somehow, uh, well, he wont have to worry about the bad emails, it'll will all come to him live and in person...

Husker Nation arise, seize the North trophy!

Boise State-Nevada going OT! BSU misses a chip shot field goal to win it. Come on, Nevada!

Posted by: Albino on November 27, 2010 12:43AM CST
It's like a divorce: it's never pleasant or pretty. But when you really need one, as Nebraska did, it's the best (maybe only) alternative to endless pathologies.

Boy, are we lucky to get out of this league! It's the athletic equivalent of a failed state.

Let's get custody of the trophy, and then outa here!

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:43AM CST
more like oedipus and his mother lust....... that seems more like the big 12 i mean mean big texas style.

Posted by: eduhusker on November 27, 2010 12:44AM CST
So how would Daniel characterize what the a&m player was pulling on? Why would Cotton react the way he did if not for someone pulling on his testicles? Oh Daniel we all know the Texass schools pay your bills...but why make it so obvious?

Posted by: cstxfn on November 27, 2010 12:44AM CST
Boise State is truly God's team... They have been blessed by the Pope.....Allah has proclaimed them clean and pure....HOLY CRAP!!!! THEY MISSED THE FIELD GOAL!!!!!

Posted by: N_trepid on November 27, 2010 12:46AM CST
Beebe refused to characterize what Jerod-Edie was actually doing, choosing instead to hide behind the statement from Ben Cotton.

Cowardly.

Why was Jerod-Eddie expressing "remorse" for his actions to Mike Sherman? In the eyes of the Rig X(ii), he did nothing wrong.

Posted by: Old School Husker on November 27, 2010 12:48AM CST
metrosexuals and mancrush men unite ,you now have a football conference to follow..... the big 12. glad we are leaving. enjoy your petty little conference. you can do what you do best ....play with yourselves. yall come back now ya hear. no thanks...

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 12:51AM CST
uh, so did anyone think to ask beebe when he's gonna give us our trophy? k, this is really stupid weird: if we lose next week he cant give it to us then, that would look ttly stupid w OU getting the cCG trophy.

missing trophys, molestations, anger management, pr machinations, and top down conspiracies and tyrannies.

sh^t's gotten outta hand...

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:00AM CST
Geez. I rewatched the game. Then I come back to the blog... and I see the story about the threats. Then I see basically NONE of the posts say anything about being embarrassed or anything of that nature that any good hearted person would be thinking... but instead... it's bizarre nonsense essentially backing the terrorism. Then putting all the blame on Beebe for not coming. What kind of logic is that?

Like I said earlier... before HWSNBN... we would have never seen behavior like this... and tolerated it. To me... it goes right up there with the "Sal is Dead... Go Big Red" sign in Boulder that year.

Thats just pathetic. And I know it's just a few bad apples... but once upon a time... Husker Nation would not stand for this. It's about Pride. It's about being able to look in the mirror. Even if there was a conspiracy... which there isn't... then BE A MAN about it! Have some class! Who cares what they do? We are NU! Show the class the people of this state are known for! I do not need to say things... but... two wrongs don't make a right.

Mr Sipple... still of sane mind... was actually questioned and even put down on the last thread. Geez.

That said...

What the hell is Beebe talking about? He most certainly was jabbing at his nuts! No other way around it. Period. It's impossible to look at that and think anything else imo.

Not to mention the Rex head twister that just went away.

We need to just play this game and get the hell out of this thing. It's gotten absurd... both ways. Threats by some of a fan base... followed by essentially lies of a conference commish.

Things have gone sour... for sure.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 27, 2010 1:07AM CST
Step - so you're saying that we never would have seen ugly fan behavior before Callahan...

But then you cite an example of such?

To be clear - I agree. Those who made threats should be caught and punished (possibly by Jerod-Eddie).

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:07AM CST
Anyways... a couple of things about the game.

We won it up front. Wats was willing to use the RexCat... to major success. Green played a good game. The OL got push. The WR's held on to the ball for the most part. NO TURNOVERS! We have two great RB's.

If I had to pick a guy on O that shined... you could easily pick Rex or Green. But I'll go with Tray Robinson. He ran tough in there to kill the clock out. Also... Yoshi seems to be getting lots of snaps.

On D... I think the biggest improvement has been at S. Both the new guys are just plain playing better then the old ones. The entire secondary is lights out... and I'd be surprised if anyone beats us that way. David is everywhere. He gets beat from time to time... but I'll take him on my team any day. My player to point out... will be.. Compton, I thought he played very well. His best game to date imo. If he comes around.... that'll be a huge plus.

Posted by: cstxfn on November 27, 2010 1:08AM CST
The StepnRaZor.... You are one of the good guys. I enjoy your posts. Take a couple of days and enjoy this win. I hope you have the whole weekend to relax. I think there are a lot of folks here that are just having a good time and talking harmless stuff.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:08AM CST
The Big 12 is dead!

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:10AM CST
OTB))) You missed my point... or perhaps I was unclear. NU fans tore that sign down in '89. NU fans now... are backing this behavior in some ways.

Things are different.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 1:14AM CST
the polls are no longer held hostage by Smurfs, wooohooo!

Posted by: GirlLovesHerHuskers on November 27, 2010 1:14AM CST
I just can't wait for next week to be over (after we get our Big 12 North and hopefully Big 12 Championship trophies, of course), and we can distance ourselves from Beebe and this conference. I don't think there are going to be as many "issues" with the other sports. It hasn't seemed like the volleyball team has had any problems anyway.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 27, 2010 1:17AM CST
Agreed across the board - Tray Robinson played a great game - got tough yards, got first downs, and most importantly, protected the ball.

Dennard had a rough afternoon (by his lofty standards), but was fighting cramps most of the second half. Compton played lights out - a good nose for the ball and sure tackling.

Also, Ed Cunningham's favorite player (E. Martin) got a few snaps at DE and looks like he could be a star there.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:19AM CST
Sign of the times Stepn. There's no respect for anything anymore.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:20AM CST
On the bad side of things...

Green is a little hot on some of that underneath stuff. Needs to take a little off.

That RT is a big boy... and I'm sure he plows many a hole... but he gets beat all the time in pass pro. I'll be glad when all these youngsters take over on the OL. We 've brought in some great recruits... some of those guys will pan out and make this O go... I hope.

Man... we shoulda been using this guy Brokomeier a long time ago! He runs good routes... ctaches the ball in traffic. He looked like Swift or Peterson out there. Kinda baffling he hasn't seen the field.

On D... really it was just a couple of big plays. I don't see any problems at all. Stopped the run well. Played the pass well. Got some turnovers. 6.0 average per pass attempt. Pretty good stuff. Not shutdown... but solid.

Overall... I feel like we have a good shot vs either of the Ok teams. But I would like to see OU... even though it would be a tougher game... for old time sakes. That would be pretty sweet!

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 1:22AM CST
the whole society/culture has degenerated and we're living closer and closer in a police state, if ya hadnt noticed, so of course, these days, there's gonna be more and more vulgar and threatening stuff going around.

This aint Andy Griffith no more, no way, sorry to say...brave new world going on...

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:22AM CST
We already beat Okie Lite. Give us OU Beebs, and at least one official.

Posted by: Outside The Box on November 27, 2010 1:22AM CST
Step - Fair enough.

While I don't condone the behavior, nor am I attempting to justify it, I can see what would move a Husker fan to not "tear the sign down" as it were.

Starting with last year's championship game (and probably even earlier) there has been a feeling (and for some, tangible evidence) that the deck is stacked against NU, and the league office is (at a minimum) not doing anything about it.

Those aren't my feelings, but I know folks who feel that way.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:23AM CST

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:29AM CST
OTB))) Yeah... sure. No doubt. I understand.

But whats that got to do with us acting like fools too? Like I said... just because they don't like us and are sending us out with a boot in the arse... that doesn't mean we should stoop to their level.

We are Nebraska. We should act like it. Thats my opinion.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:30AM CST
How do you miss two straight on chip shots like that? Follow the money!

Posted by: Gofor2 on November 27, 2010 1:31AM CST
Step
I agree with your post but would add Beeb's response was calculated and focused once again as painting Nebraska as the evil empire.

His decision to once again get back at Nebraska and not deal with this as a professional is very poor form.
Sure there may be .01% of Husker fans that would send such emails(college student pranks?) but seriously does Beebe have any credibility after his response to BC?

If he can say Gonad Gate did not happen, then do you think he could exaggerate about the Husker fans input?

Brian, excellent job on cornering Beebe and asking those questions.

Posted by: BO-urNe sUpremacy on November 27, 2010 1:31AM CST
agree, well, I try to stay on the straight and narrow, vast majority of fans still do me thinks...

Posted by: joe9wicket on November 27, 2010 1:31AM CST
Step, I am embarrassed. I joked earlier about Ayers would be safer presenting the North title trophy to NU than Beebe earlier, but I guess folks didn't pick up on that. There is a mean streak in the fanbase that I can empathize with but can not condone. Much like Ayers' behavior in the '60's. However, unlike Beebe, despite the threats, Ayers was willing to speak here, but Perlman pulled the plug. I wonder if Nebraska wins the big 12 title, the loser gets a consolation ribbon from BB so as not to lower their self esteem. Can't have kids feeling bad about themselves.

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:34AM CST
You're right Stepn, but like I said earlier, I've witnessed some real idiots that are NU fans. I live on the border of Nebraska and Iowa. It gets pretty ugly sometimes, and we don't even play each other. But that's about to change.

Posted by: Albino on November 27, 2010 1:35AM CST
Gotcha journalism is often considered a sign of our cultural deterioration. Beebe extends the concept to "gotcha administration". Rude emails are blown out of proportion to imply a threat, one that regular authorities could not handle.

It's just a cover for the abuses he chooses to ignore. But it's also a form of corruption that will continue to haunt the erstwhile Big 12.

Step, Genuine threats would have been handled completely differently; this was spin. Which is also what TO thinks, as his comments make clear.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:35AM CST
Boise looked real good to me this year. Their D was stout. But you are only as good as your weakest link. And their kicker is the weak link.

It always bewildered me when FSU was loaded with all that talent... but had no kicker.

Anyways... I'm glad Utah and Boise lost. I never thought they were that good.

If Auburn loses to SC... which is not out of the question... then who goes to play Oregon?

Posted by: Bloozman on November 27, 2010 1:38AM CST
TCU shall receive that whoopin then.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:39AM CST
Gofor))) Thats a good point. If he's so blatantly wrong about NadFeast... he's obviously nutty... or paid off er something! lol

We'll see if they "catch" anyone in the police investigation. Otherwise... we may never know what happened.

We just need to get out of this thing before something bad happens. It's gettng out of control.

Bourne\response to 1:22 am post

Growing up in the '60's with assassinations, riots, the draft, war, I can say there never was any Mayberry/Andy Griffin.

It's always been tough and will continue to be so, but this country can handle it.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 27, 2010 1:42AM CST
Gofor))) Also... Beebe didn't ever answer. At least he didn't give his thoughts... other than that it wasn't what Sipple said it was. A testy poke er whatever.

And it was Sipple that cornered him. Right? Or do I owe an apology to BC?

There is no way in hell that Dan Beebe was going to stand on Nebraska's home field and get booed as he handed over a division trophy.

I don't doubt that he got some really awful e-mails, and I don't condone any of it at all. This is one seriously ugly divorce, and the duplicitous behavior on his part (refusing to even address Jerod-Eddie's actions) only serves to highlight that.

Can't wait to be part of the Big Ten. Five years from now, the Big X(ii) won't even exist.

First of all, it would have to be the FBI that does the investigating. He won't be able to enlist the Texass Rangers, cuz it would be seen as a conspiracy. Nebraska officials would laugh him off. The FBI doesn't care. End of story!

Boise's defense never had to face a team for 4 quarters all year until tonight, and it showed. When the pack made it 31-30 I was hoping for a 2 point conversion, since it seemed to be following the plot of the '84 Orange bowl to a T. I was a little relieved when they kicked, because I was sure if it came to OT that Nevada would prevail. But Boise had to make some drama. I was right about the pack, nobody else played 'em straight up after getting down except Nevada, they never gave up, they didn't start throwing every down... they just ran it down their throat and made them tired... beautiful.

Step,
Most Nebraskans (and midwesterners in general) see themselves as decent, fair, and generally good people who follow the rules and trust authority figures.

So when we think that the authority figures are using their power against us...we are willing to get a little ugly, American Revolution style.

Don't Tread on Me.

I don't condone threats, but I can understand why people are upset, and it isn't because we've lost our way.

Posted by: Viking Husker on November 27, 2010 2:08AM CST
I see the messages and emails to Beebe the same way I see Bo's sideline demeanor at aTm.

Yes, it looks bad. No, it's not how we normally would act. No, it's not how we plan on acting in the future.

But how do you expect good people to react to perceived injustice?

I mean, you can't kick the bee hive without expecting to get stung.

Posted by: Viking Husker on November 27, 2010 2:11AM CST
And finally, some raised the question of whether Bo would lose the team or not after his berrateing of Taylor on the sideline.

Some questioned if you'd want your kids to play for that guy.

Well, on Friday, the team answered that question.

Go Big Red.

Read the entire blog---some real good insight here. All that's left for me is to take a short drive to Arlington in a week or so and watch the the South representative get taken apart. Beebebrain to give us our trophy?? Who cares--he mucks up everything he touches--his alliances killed the Big 12. Give this remnant of a conference 2-3 years and it's gone--and so is his job. Adios, Little 12 and Howdy Big 10--a real smart move.

a few things, i may be new to this group, but i am not new to being a HUSKER fan from the days of the big 8 to the end of the btexas league we are in now. 1) had that been a husker player jabbing at the testicles of an aggie, is that flag thrown? 2) big texas does not review games? on what grounds does Martin get suspended for then? 3) i am a huge supporter for Coach BO. he has some big testicles to take on the big texas refs knowing that it wont help but is bringing national attention to the atrocity of big texas league. it shows his players he wil fight and not back down cause he fears them. the rest better fallow suit if they think that big texas will not make life hard for them if they do not fall in line. question to the rest of the schools? do you get your own tv network and if you do, do you think you wil get all the revenue? think again....

Posted by: Sabretooth on November 27, 2010 5:59AM CST
It is no surprise that Beebe dodged the question about Osbourne's roughing the passer play and his refusal to clarify the Cotton play other than to say it wasn't jabbing at his testicles. Beebe has shown that he is an unethical man, he is a dishonest man, and a vindictive man. No threats from me, just pity.

About how cool it was to watch cody Green grow up.

About the Play of Rex Burkhead, not to mention Joe Brockemier. Or the Defense.

But that dang Beebe took that away evidently.

Why waste the effort to complain about him?

why was the north trophy not presented to NU after the game isnt that standard. OO and Cody Green can play haters, give em a shot. LOL taylors little sissy attitude may have cost him the job. T mart has no integrity quiter little rich boy. LOL i hear CU needs a QB

I hope watching his team drop 40+ without him humbles him up cause he is a great player with a bad attitude. Bebe for President his and Bush are dame rear twins, Disshonest, non loyal, cowardly, and no sense of what college football is and should be. Everyone tends to forget NU is among the top 5 best teams ever we built the big 12 oo i meant big texas srry.

Posted by: BleedingRed on November 27, 2010 8:28AM CST
I should point out that I absolutely could care less about any presentation of any trophy or any other token.

I was recently asked if I hated Texas, aTm and others. My response was, "Absolutely not. These are all just young men playing a game that they love. I don't hate any other team. I'm certainly not real fond of some of the fans but I have nothing against any team when you are talking about the actual kids that are actually playing the game."

The first thing that I did after being extremely disappointed in losing to the University of Texas was to congratulate them for having won the game. I believe it was a fairly called game and on that day the better team won. That is what College athletics is all about. Isn't it? Isn't the entire game supposed to be about the Student Athletes, the building of character, the building of values that include fair play, hard work, discipline, devotion, team work, the ability to manage ones self with dignity in both winning and losing. It is about so much more than what the final score is at the end of the day. It is not about obtaining a trophy or having won the ability to forever say that "we were better than you". It is about life and how we must all, often while enduring heartfelt losses, continue to persevere and hold true to our values. College athletics is arguably one of the last sanctuaries whereby our youth and thus our future leaders have an opportunity to learn the values and beliefs that so many throughout this country hold dear.

On any given day when two teams meet sides are taken. During this time emotions run high for most and to varying degrees. But at the end of the day we must go back to those very values that have brought us to this very place. You shake hands with the other team and you congratulate them on their victory. It is what we do, it is what we believe in and it is what has been and should always be done. This is the foundation that is laid to ensure that the principles that we hold so dear are perpetuated.

I am very disappointed in the current leadership of the Big 12 conference. Those who have been elevated to a position of leadership have shown none of the qualities that have for so many years allowed College athletics to thrive and to perpetuate and foster a viable atmosphere of fair competition for the next generation.

No program should have to take such unbridled abuses from those who have been empowered to alleviate the very wrongs which they now work so hard to perpetuate. When those whom we have entrusted with the responsibility of keeping our values and morals safe have gone astray and are no longer capable of performing their duties in a manner void of corruption we face a crux in time whereby our path shall be chosen by the decisions that come to bear.

Change is in order and none that remain should be forced to endure such future corruption from their leadership. We all have our crosses to bear and but for the grace of God, there go I.

I could care less if BB presented the Big 12 trophy to NU, as long as we get a fair officiated game in TX and we win that trophy, I don't care who presents it. he would be the last person I want seen in our last picture representing Big 12, NU has represented the Big 12 well, we gave, they took thats why its ending. Do you really want BB's face in the hall ways at NU for years to come. Yuk!

Mr. BB really does have some issues, he is unethical, inmature, weak (shows this in many ways every week), pathetic (continues to show the true meaning of a LOSER), cheater, and a very evil ugly person.

This year TX got theirs, in a few years BB will get his the Big 12 will fold, and BB will be out of a job. So when you see the guy discribed above and (you will know him when you see him), standing on the corner with his tin can, throw him a striped shirt. LOL!

I pointed out last night the "taking a knee play" on the kickoff was explained by some local radio.

Evidently NU was sent up in a onside kick formation (since CU had done it before) and there was no blocking for him. Would of been smeared by about 6 guys. May have prevented an injury or turnover.

My first comment after the game was Green Managed the game well. IMO the reason his passing numbers looked good were the hands of his recievers. Every pass he threw was either behind them or low. The first one Burkhead droped, should have been caught, but it started on his hip behind him.
Again He handled himself better than I thought he would, but I agree with No No, it was a team effort.
Lee look good IMO. PT was right, he threw the ball great. He has a knack of putting the ball where only his guy can catch it most of the time. He also moves well in a passing situation.
The stadium was pretty loud when needed. PT was right the third quarter took forever!

Trash, Ok...I've eaten my words and all the crow I dished out! Gody played good last night. He stepped up just like I wished he would. We needed him and he came through. Now we have a QB controversy...I love it!

That being said, why can't Watson figure out how simple this game can be? He called a good game last night. Nothing fancy, just good sound football. It was a joy to watch.

I actually watched or listened to almost the whole game and didn't have to turn away hardly at all. I love games like yesterday and their were some senior heros that we hadn't heard of, like Broekemeier what a great game for him. Also no turnovers its amazing what type of game you play when you have no turn overs. From what I saw Watson called a similar game to what he always calls. The team just executed better than they have in the past. The line was maintaining their blocks better, the backs were hitting the holes better, and the recievers held onto the ball better. When you do those things, good things happen!
You also have to remember CU is NOT a good football team. The score of that game was close to what it should have been.

I'm not sure Bo & Co ever want to see the Big XII officials since their work may have kept us from a BCS game last year and possibly the National Championship game this year.

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 8:59AM CST
Nuke, I honored the officiating crew yesterday, I thought it was a good game. I also asked for this crew to be in TX next week and wondered where they were last weekend. I realize there will a few questionable calls in each game, but for the amount of call in the aTm game and to find out the same crew called the TX game and Ia St. game rises a lot of questions in my mind. The two games NU loses are to TX based teams with the same crew officiating those games and the burkheads head almost being ripped off in the Ia St. game makes you wonder about this crew. I hope they are sitting on a beach next weekend with their Big 12/BB pay off just anywhere but on the field in TX next week. That crew cost us two games almost three!

They failed to investigate and see what the root cause was.

I thought they were OK. I think they didn't seem sure of themselves because they didn't want to look like the Morons of last week.
Part of the problem at the game was when they threw a flag they were Booed if the crowd wasn't sure who the foul was on. They got yelled at before they called a PF on Colorado because everyone thought they were calling it on us. LOL
I would say they were normal. Not good not bad.

Buck,

Yea, I heard some of the boos during the 1st qtr, looked like it rattled the refs. I think they called a decent game, but picked up like 3 flags on the day which is unusual.

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 9:14AM CST
no nothing your long post above cracked me up. I did read that BB and Big 12 officials had gotton some pretty angry emails and calls from some really mean husker fans. That also cracks me up because I felt the same way as they did after that game. That is why Bo's sideline melt down didn't bother me, because I was throwing a whole lot of F-bombs in my house also.

So BB had a rough week last week, let me boo hoo one for him. Just shows you how powerful Nebraska really is. He deserves a rough week, he brought it on himself, just fed-ex the trophy to NU and let TO present it too the team, that would mean more to me as a fan having a leader with class present a trophy to a team that played well and deserves it then having BB present it, someone you cannot respect.

Yeah I know about radio guys.

But I would think he would of returned it had he had blocking. Marlowe doesn't get a lot of playing time the way it is so I would think he would want to maximize it.

I think if he returns into a wall of 5 Buff players gets injured or fumbles, then people are wondering why he just didn't go down when the blocks were not set up for him.

Guess I don't really care. It had no bearing on the outcome and won't happen in a close game anyway.

The media's job is not to investigate and find the truth(just ask the supreme court judges), it is to sensationalize and demonize, its propoganda mostly, so I wouldnt get too worked up about what the press does/doesnt do.

Beebee & the Rig X(ii) refs have put a bounty on our team! It's OK to wrench off a Huskers head or fistf him in a pile, don't worry about being called for personal fouls. If a Husker so much as breaths on you, he will be penalized & suspended. Now go get em boys, I'll be hiding under my desk in the office.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 27, 2010 9:22AM CST
As to the officiating, overall decent job. The head linesman threw a flag early from clear across the field early in the game and things settled down from there.

I thought he kind of took charge of his crew.

Posted by: BUCK4NU on November 27, 2010 9:22AM CST
One flag they picked up I think the guy meant to throw hsi hat. The reciever ran OB. So that was one of them.

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 9:25AM CST
Nuke I am with you on the media looking at the real reason Bo was freaking out on the sideline. They made him to be so horrible but not once would any media personnel fess up to the horrible officiating that went on in that game. And then for BB to come back with this I had a NFL ref watch the game, and he agreed it was officiated correctly. Come on its not just the flags thrown against NU it was the ones not thrown against aTm. Bo was watching his team and his kids get screwed right in front of his eyes and the Husker season taken away from this team and he was helpless, he can't even talk about it, so I understood his frustration. I am still so amazed how the media could turn on a coach like this past week, if they had watched the same game we watched they should have stood up for him. The media painted an ugly picture of Bo, and instead they could've gotton more done by painting an ugly picture of the wrecking crew, (ref's) so this didn't happen again in any conference or any game. The media has so much power, and they used it in the wrong way and for the wrong side in my opinion!

Anybody know which crew will be officiating the Big XII-2 CG?

How can you comment about one supposed non-call ("The Fondling"), but then turn around and say you're not allowed to comment about why a call was made in another case (Osborne Phantom Roughing)? "...bound by rules..." Beebe is dishonest. How come BR didn't ask straight out, "Is there a problem with the Burk's crew officiating NU and will you ensure they don't officiate the CG?" Or "Is this a Big 12 conspiracy to screw NU?" Or, "How long would you let someone (officials) cheat your livelihood before you got pissed and said something?"

This is going to be an ugly divorce between Nebraska and the Big 12. We'll keep the big screen, they can keep the nutcracker.

There is only 1 answer to this. Play above it. Don't make it easy by making mental errors.

If we get beat next weekend it will be because we did not play well enough to win.

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 9:34AM CST
One last thing about the aTm game, I was and still am very disappointed in how the media handled last weekend's game. Sorry LJS you guys do a great job, but the media has power and what you report on is what the readers believe in, and in my opinion the story wasn't Bo its was and still is this officiating crew. If the media would've reported on the officiating crew this would've made more eyes look deeper into this crew and take a look at other games they officiated like the TX, and Ia St game. I am not just talking about the LJS I am talking about ESPN, and all other outsider media reporters. Now NU has too worry not about our game plan so much, but what crew is going to officiate this game next week, wut a bunch of crap.

Goota lovew Courtney OZ's hard nosed, "thug" style of play, guy brings a 'tude to everything he does. But yo, CO, tone it down a notch or you are gonna cost us some yds in PFs, I saw him trying to slap around a bit a Puff RB(WR?) that had gone outta bounds when he was just back there standing on the sideline(CO that is), LOL, was pretty funny actually, but I thought they were gonna throw a flag on him.

Posted by: rumpleforeskin on November 27, 2010 9:40AM CST
I was happy with our offence overall and as I have said all along Cody is more than capable of leading this team. But our front 4 is a major concern going in to the championship. To many big yards up the middle. Big 12 south champ will attack our middle.

If a team is to reach its potential,
each player must be willing to subordinate his personal goals
to the good of the team.

To me this represents Cody Green. He may not have all the bells and whistles that Martinez has, but he is a true team player and represents all thats good about Nebraska!

I'm not sure if I understand... Was this conversation in person or via phone?? Sure sounds like it was in person....

Given all of the recent dislike for the B12 and it's mgmt I'm shocked that he would show his face in Lincoln... I'm surprised Beebe wasn't wearing as rubber nose and glasses trying to stay incognito!! He's either stupid or brave.

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 10:07AM CST
no nothing, I don't know if there is or if I believe there is a conspiracy to hurt NU, but I do find a specific officiating crew to be questionable. I do not think that they should be allowed to officiate in the Big 12 CCG. Whether they are anti-Nebraska or not, they do not or did not do a good job. All I would like to see is a good crew next week and if NU loses, they lose because they couldn't get the job done and the ref's are not part of the conversation. I just want a descent game next week. I thought the crew yesterday did a good job.

Posted by: SonoFly on November 27, 2010 10:14AM CST
It's hard to read the Beebee apologist posts on here. Are you blind? I understand the integrity of Nebraska fans, but in your quest to have level heads & even hands, you are serving these corupt refs. At the very least, that crew is incopetent & should all be fired, at worst, they are bias & should be criminaly prsecuted for endangering the saftey of the athletes. See: Burkhead's attempted beheading & Cotton's Balls! Protect your family! That is the right thing to do in this case, I don't care if other fans think we are whiners, the kids need to be protected, that's why Bo lost his cool at ATM. I call em like I see em.

A disturbing thought: the officiating crew in the Colorado game looked like a setup to me. Colorado got stuck with several questionable calls such as pass interference. The impression on the national TV audience was:
1) Those Big 12 officials are actually very nice to the Huskers, so what is the problem?
2) Bo Pelini must be emotionally unbalanced to scream and cuss at such impartial and fair officials.
3) Now in the Big 12 Playoff, the officials can do anything they want with Bo effectively muzzled, and the national audience prepped to believe that the B-12 officials are even-handed in the games.
4) The network TV folks will zero in on Osborne and Martin and anytime they knock the snot out of an opposing player, they will be accused of dirty play and thuggery.

Hope I am wrong, but don't be surprised if it happens.

Yesterday represented all I wanted to see in a few ways...

I wanted to see Cody Green have a good day and have some success. He did and I'm sure it will pay dividends in the future...

I was hoping to see Rex get to throw a few... He did, and showed that he is more than a running threat in the wildcat. While Helu may be a great RB, Rex is showing a versatility that is beyond measure.

I was hoping we would get a shot at seeing Lee to get a first hand look at verifying that he is healthy.

Got chance to see what we have for replacing Niles Paul.

All of this makes me feel better about next week in Dallas!!

I posted a couple links to videos from this year where a ND player stomps on a Navy's player's jewels and the obvious attempt of Fairley of Auburn to spear the Georgia QB in the mid-back.

Neither player was suspended by their conference and the ND player wasn't even flagged.

I understand your passion for the players and the team. But I guess the main question I have is what do you expect we as fans do about Beebe?

Your Rex comment is spot on. There's really nothing to not like about the guy. He epitomizes NU Football completely.

Bo couldn't of put it better when just talking about his "football I.Q.". Just stuff you can't teach. Always plays smart. Understands defenses, reading blocks, protecting the football, what's needed per play yardage wise and seems to always fall forward, etc.

Just in case, I'd like to see him start practicing FG kicking for 2011.

So will Nevada be ranked above Boise St.? They should be ranked close to each other since each have one loss. Maybe rank them BSU 15, Virgina Tech 16, Nevada 17? (Nevada lost to Hawaii, a lower ranked team)

Can't wait to see if they drop below the two loss teams when the new rankings come out. Alabama might even be ranked higher with 3 losses as they were 'God's team' according to ESPN early in the season and still are 'the best team ever' (such a joke).

During the Nevada game last night they showed quotes from other head coaches saying that BSU was "the best team they ever played, such a tough team, and would beat any team anywhere at any time, blah blah blah" and the announcers acted like BSU belonged. Now that is funny! So all those head coaches' claims were false, or they just don't play that good of competition.....

Posted by: Mountainman@ on November 27, 2010 10:39AM CST
An interesting question about the Boise State-Nevada game. Why did the replay officials unnecessarily "ice" the Boise kicker for nearly five minutes in deciding whether the game clock should read one second or two seconds? There was no real question about the pass reception since the ball never touched the ground and that review was done when Boise State called time to stop the clock. The night was bitter cold and the kicker had to try to stay warm during the long delay. The result was the Boise State kicker missed a short FG that would have won the game for them.

Posted by: BUCK4NU on November 27, 2010 10:44AM CST

The smurfs didn't have 3 weeks to prepare for a somewhat OK team, and got beat. Sorry the only time I think they can beat a good team is if they have several weeks to plan. Play a Pac 10 Big 12 Big 10 or SEC schedule and they are a 500 team at best.

Let's avoid pitting Martinez and Green against each other. We have two good young QBs and need them both.

It was great to see Green take a big step in terms of reliability and moving the team down the field. Part of it may be Watson learning to call a game that draws on his strengths.

In addition to giving us depth, the competition will be good for Taylor. That said, when health permits, his speed and skills are exceptional. How fortunate we are to have both!

Trash, I simply want us to stand up for ourselves, stop rationalizing the refs actions. Sure, football is a rough sport, & dirty pool is sometimes unflaged across the board, but if we can't see the crime that was perpetrated at aTm, the sport will be ruined by cheaters. The Iowa st game was also played on a tilted field. I know the team has to play above all this & just win, but if our own fans are so diplomatic as to hang these boys out to dry, is that integrity? Just don't forget the facts, keep stating the truth, don't back down for the sake of "sportsmanship". Tell these media hacks what we really think. That's all I want.

Posted by: SonoFly on November 27, 2010 11:58AM CST
Again, you'd have to be blind not to see the bias in the ATM game. Beebee said he could fix every game easily if he wanted to. That is soooo telling. He thinks he is a good liar, just like a teenager who has been succesful lying to the parents, but when you try that stuff with the police, it does not fly. Truth is, a team can play through the refs & win despite the stacked deck, but if you pull out all the stops & blatantly cheat(16-2), our team lost by 3 points. If they pulled that at every game, they would surely be busted. If you really think our players are dirty, just because they are penalized more, why continue supporting them? Our guys play hard & as clean as any team in the country. They have overcome many obstacles this year, more than they should have to. I truly believe Beebee has given that reffing crew a licence to cheat us. I just hope we get a fair shake in the Champ game.

Is it just me, or does TO seem a bit TO'd at BB over the no-show. Good thing it wasn't a no call - no show.

"They got whatever they got, and they decided not to come," Osborne said. "That's OK. I don't have anything to say about that."

"I've said all I'm going to say. I've had all kinds of e-mails over the years. It's not a problem."

“You can call Beebe and ask him.”

In Diplomacy-speak, I believe. this is an uplifted finger and an over-the-shoulder "F him!".

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 12:59PM CST
Redgore, I have to agree and felt the same way, I felt like TO was pretty much saying BB copped out and yep he probably did get those emails and phone calls, and TO told the media in so many words what he was told from BB. Let's just get that to the media before BB had a chance to report it. This way if someone questions BB about those emails and phone calls he can't say (well he could) he didn't tell TO that, most people would take TO's word over BB. So too BB produce those emails and phone calls, and have all those NU fans thrown in jail, oh and by the way could also have the officiating crew that worked the aTm game thrown in jail with the NU fans, lets see how that pans out. At least then we would know that crew wouldn't be at the CCG and NU might have a chance. LOL! Chickensh*t BB, what's really going to happen they going to throw a whole state of fans in jail come on BB, quit making a fool out of yourself!

Posted by: Miller on November 27, 2010 1:01PM CST
Redgore, basically TO says to call BB and ask him, that comment says something also. I mean not to call and threaten him or anything, but heck wish TO would gave us his phone number. Just kidding! LOL!

Below is an email I sent to the turd Beebe after Martin was suspended. I also left a message last week on the Big 12 voicemail with a "Maria" because I couldn't find my way to Beebe's voicemail. I said absolutely nothing threatening, but I did tell them what a joke they were and if Beebe has the nads to call me back, please do so and I left my name and number. Pretty scary stuff.

Mr. Beebe,

Just a quick note to express my sincere displeasure and disagreement with your
unfair and unwise decision to suspend Eric Martin for the game tomorrow against
Missouri. Mr. Martin's hit was clean, legal, and absolutely awesome. He led
with his shoulder, plain and simple. This is football, after all.

I am happy you continue to represent the University of Texas and all their
underhanded and dirty shenanigans. My alma mater, the University of Nebraska,
can't wait to move on to the much more professional and stable Big 10
Conference.

I have one question: How come the Oklahoma St. player who maliciously targeted
our quarterback with a helmet to helmet hit was not suspended like Eric Martin?
Pathetic, just like your lack of leadership.

You, sir, have been inept, incompetent, and a poor excuse for a commissioner.

Posted by: Richard Okelberry on November 27, 2010 1:53PM CST
First, the Big-12 commissioner seems to have failed to understand Cotton’s response to the question about what Jerod-Eddie was doing. He was obviously making a joke about Jerod-Eddie reaching for his tactical not the actual football, which is why the media broke out in laughter.

Also, it is disturbing that is appears by his comments that there was no official review of the video by the commissioner as he is REQUIRED to do under Big 12 rules. Also, if the Big 12 commissioner had taken the time to consult an orthopedic physician or even team trainer he would have discovered that Jerod-Eddie was actually trying to damage Cotton’s sciatic nerve by pressing his fingers between the muscles on the inner thigh. This could have led to a career ending injury.

Then when you have a coach, team or school that makes it worse by continued questionable play, they then lose the benefit of the doubt on many calls."

Please tell me, [no nothing] what actions from Husker players precipitated them as having a reputation as you say, "for dirty play?" And then, if you would be so kind, also comment specifically on the "continual questionable play" comment.

I ask these questions as yours are the first comments I have heard of that would indicate the Huskers to have a reputation for dirty play. I hope, in your defense, that you have more evidence than the Eric Martin incident as that was one, isolated event.

Conspiracy is too strong a word, but it's clear the Big 12 officials and staff don't like Nebraska and have let that influence their officiating and conduct towards Nebraska.

I truly feel sorry for Universities that were once a part of the old Big Eight Conference. Especially some of the smaller schools. I hope they are taking note of what has happened to us on the football field (Texas A&M game), and the lack of response from the Big XII commissioner's office. The "snub" that we received regarding the awarding of the trophy for having won the north division title.

The Big XII commissioner can treat them in a like manner whenever a controversy involves their school. He can fabricate any excuse that he can think of in order not to address their concerns.

I give the conference one more year of existence.

Posted by: cornflakes on November 27, 2010 5:32PM CST
I find it a bit ironic that the day NU wins Big 12 north and no one shows to give trophy, the NU band salutes the Big 12 with its halftime show. They paid a bit of respect to each former NU opponent but no one could find the time or the gnads to come up to give the player the honor and respect they earned. Should NU win the Big 12 title game Saturday they should walk off the field and let the student managers accept the trophy. Either that or accept it and give Beebe a jock strap filled with miniature footballs, since that's all the A&M was after, right, the football...

Besides having a bunch of statements about fair play and sportsmanship, the Big 12 Charter clearly states, “The Commissioner shall have the responsibility for and is authorized to provide rulings and interpretations of the Rules (1.7.7).” Section 7.2 of the Big 12 Rules then goes on to explain that while member institutions may conduct their own investigations into NCAA violations, they are required to file a report with both the NCAA and the Big 12 Commissioner for any “Potential Major Violations.” In dealing with such violations section 12 of the Big 12 Rules states that Physical Abusive Acts committed against an opponent’s team member (12.3.1) “REQUIRE actions by the Big 12 commissioner (12.3).”

And he can't comment why?
