Nebraska safety Larry Asante is listed on the West roster for the East-West Shrine Game.

A couple Texas players are listed as teammates -- DT Lamarr Houston and kicker Hunter Lawrence.

The East-West Shrine Game is scheduled to take place Jan. 23 in Orlando at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Here's the West roster.

Here's the East roster.

BAM!!!

Posted by: TheOneAndOnly on January 3, 2010 11:25AM CST
Hope they fix that God awful field in Orlando.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on January 3, 2010 12:04PM CST
That field is scheduled for artificial playing surface before next year. Don't think they'll make it for this game.

I held my breath during our game with Penn St. hoping nobody runined an ankle or knee. I haven't seen anything like that since I was in high school.

As Joe Pa said "both teams have to play on it"

Posted by: Busiekcreek on January 3, 2010 12:24PM CST
I know that General, what I meant was both teams having a player suffer a serious injury because of field conditions. A career going down the drain in that mud bath is a travesty no matter if you had a gold or white helmet on.

And I don't give a rat's patoot what Joe Pa said. He has never been in my book of the holy grail.

afternoon Miss Busie

I assume Suh won't be playing in any all-star games: No way he can improve his draft status in one, and an injury of any kind would cost him big money.

It's good to see that Larry Asante will have the chance to impress the scouts. The young man deserves the opportunity to play on Sundays.

I noticed that Kansas had the most North Division players in the game while Colorado and Missouri had none. I assume that's an indication of the youth (or lack of it) on those teams.

I can almost hear the East's offensive players now trying to beg out so they don't get hurt by one of Asante's hits (several of which came after the whistle this year). I don't think it will bother the scouts too much though. They'll love the energy he puts out.

Posted by: Huskerzone on January 3, 2010 3:31PM CST
I do hope you are right Guido (thanks for not referring to yourself in the third person). Asante is probably my favorite Husker of the past 3 years, but his late hits cost us dearly at times.

Posted by: Guido on January 3, 2010 3:52PM CST
HZ - The Guido says you're welcome.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on January 3, 2010 3:57PM CST
IMO, I hate to see Larry Asante play on that field if it has not improved. Looking good to the scouts is not worth becoming up close and personal with the orthopaedic surgeons.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on January 3, 2010 3:58PM CST
How is the Guido, belated happy new year to you and Huskerzone as well.

Posted by: Guido on January 3, 2010 5:41PM CST
The Guido is well. Thank you Busie!

Posted by: Huskerzone on January 3, 2010 5:47PM CST
Thank you Busie and LOL the Guido. May the new year bring an undefeated season for your Tigers and our Huskers.

Maybe Asante will put a hard hit on Stafon Johnson. Just kidding. I do hate USC though.

Ganz will start as a grad assistant this semester, I believe.

Let's hope that if Lee, Green, Washington, Spano and Martinez aren't in Watson's office, they're picking Ganz's brain.

Posted by: From The General on January 3, 2010 8:49PM CST
Joey G. will be the spark that is needed to light the fire under these QBs.

Posted by: Islander/Husker on January 3, 2010 9:40PM CST
Ganz said on the Big Red Wrap up that he did not start to grow as a QB until Watson became coach. He said Watson is a great teacher.

Did you see Sipple's article on the QB's. Great read. In that article, Watson said "I think Zac took a big step in his development (in the Holiday Bowl).)

Watson was stern with Lee in days leading to the Holiday bowl.

"I wanted him to get tought and two fisted," Watson said. "And I want him to put that part of him on film. I wanted it to come from inside of him."

I like that, that's coaching. I will give a guy props when they are due.

Sipple also said that he has heard that Green pretty much practiced the way he played in the game.

And I don't give a rat's patoot what Joe Pa said. He has never been in my book of the holy grail.

Busiekcreek, I agree with you about the field conditions to your bowl game being atrocious!
It shouldn't be in that condition, to a post season bowl contest? And I am one for not making excuses, and know JoePa said both had to play on same field, as the General quoted?

By the way I do differ with you respectfully, and I do put JoePa in my book of holy grail, from all that I have found out about the man, over time? I don't care where a man resides, south, north, east, or west, or foreign countries, what is the mosaic of life, that the man paints, is what is important to me?

But I do think you're right Busiekcreek, wether you want to declare it or not, and JoePa is wrong, in the fact that yes, both teams played on same field, but it hindered the speed of LSU moreso, to giving an undecided advantage to JoePa's PSU team, and I think down deep he knows it?

It also reinforces my conjecture, and this one you might respectfully disagree with, Busiekcreek, with as well? That if post season bowl games were played up north, in outdoor stadiums, during inclement weather conditions, the outcomes to many of the games, pitting southern teams against northern teams, would have a decided change to whom was the victor?

Meaning, that postseason game favor southern teams, and the geographic disposition of rosters, that play for the respective teams?
GBR! Zhou Da Hong! Just my opinion, as demonstrated by my question marks, as to not saying, I am profound or not?

Oh it definitely would, Miami players were crying about the 50 degree temperatures in their bowl game

The playoffs go through Camp Randall, the Horseshoe or Lincoln, NE in December, those teams in the Deep South are taking quite a few more losses.

Go Big Asante!

I researched all the recent info I could on Kenny Bell b/c I believe he is a game breaker. He has numerous family and friends that are husker fans. He is dissapointed that Colorado doesn't ever contact him. As soon as NU offered him a scholarship he scheduled his visit immediately and was verbally stoked about everything about NU. Its sounds like from what ive read and heard from his mouth he will commit to NU. The DE who I can't pronounce his name however sounds like hes going to UCLA although he denies it.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on January 3, 2010 11:05PM CST
One comment from a journalist claimed NU would be the perfect fit b/c of how SUH was from ORegon too and we did such a great job of developing him. Dont know what that is worth though. Everyone has an opinion. There were lots of rumors that our WR enunwa was a very soft commit but after the holiday bowl he is apparently back to strongly commited.

Posted by: lincolniter on January 3, 2010 11:08PM CST
If Bo ever decides to leave NU we are going to chain him to his desk.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on January 3, 2010 11:09PM CST
Kenny Bell also said he would announce his commitment after the holidays so it should be coming anyday.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on January 3, 2010 11:12PM CST
Its strange how scout.com has all of rivals 4 stars as 3 stars and vice versa for all NUs recruits. I don't understand but believe Bo's list is the most accurate. Rumor is he is one of the best eyes for talent that there is. I lose more faith in these rectuiting services every year.

Too bad this game will not pair Asante with Robert Johnson of Utah as safeties. Johnson was decleating Cal receivers in the Poinsettia Bowl just like he did to the Alabama receivers in the Sugar Bowl. He was absolutely dominating in the secondary in many games.

Posted by: Goldenrod Husker on January 4, 2010 1:02AM CST
He said our staff would put him at WR. I could see him running wildcat as well. He played qb, wr, rb, and def in high school.

Morning I/H
I love the horrible sloppy field, bad weather games.
A note on Leach as I missed yesterdays news, he's got no legal case. He's going to waste a lot of money paying lawyers for nothing if he pursues this. He tried to cover up the punishment motive by his statements and now there are several witnesses saying that is what they were instructed to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets counter sued for this behavior and slander now. He should have shut up. The way he has manipulated the fan base for his own reasons and not the benefit of TT is pretty sad. Those poor fans have invested a lot of anguish for someone who just "wants his money that TT stoled.". I guess if your coach is a winner you will follow him anywhere, eg. Switzer, Knight, Mangino, Neuhisel, to name a few.
What a mess, and of course ESPN and James way over played their hand demonstrating the level of personal and corporate arrogance. Their behavior pretty much matches Leach's.
Great to see the win with the interim coach and the players trying to get away from that tar baby Leach.

I meant No, LOL not I/H.

The "DOG" would think BIG "SUE" would @ least WANT to play in the Senior Bowl - the premier all star game against the best of the best. O'Hanlan & Dillard should get invites to some all star game too. PS: gaymary - are you mary or just gay??
