An area to watch Saturday
Posted by: Steve Sipple on November 4, 2009 at 7:36PM CST

Lots of chatter this week about Nebraska's scuffling offense and the hardships it likely will encounter against Oklahoma's excellent defense.

The Sooner offense obviously could have problems of its own, especially in the trenches.

Notice the Oklahoma depth chart shows Ben Habern, a redshirt freshman, as the starting center. At left guard, the Sooner depth chart lists senior Brody Eldridge, who actually started four games at tight end and one at center this season. He played three seasons at fullback. At right guard, OU starts sophomore Stephen Good.

If you're a Nebraska fan, you have to like the matchup of Ndamukong Suh and Jared Crick against  Oklahoma's interior offensive line.

Just something to think about . . .

bam--Suh and Crick--bam

Stepnrazer, did you post this blog. Because that sounds like what you've been saying all week. BAM.

Posted by: redone on November 4, 2009 7:45PM CST
I will be watching your articals, Simple, I am sure you will be able to put a good spin on it as you always do. Believe it or not.

GO BIG RED!

Posted by: Huskersincebirth2 on November 4, 2009 8:08PM CST
NishBigRed:

Is that Suh chasing Sid the Sloth in your pic?

lol

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:09PM CST
You have to be Cute One or Coach Bughead. I take that as a personal offense speaking of Mr. Sipple in that manner. Your Momma surely did not teach you any manners.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 8:13PM CST
Morning Busie,
How are you doing?

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:15PM CST
Nish, are you celebrating early. It's 8:18 pm at night here in the Bayou. I'm fine. Just trying to get my self ready for Saturday. I'm feeling good about both games. No predictions, too superstitious

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 8:16PM CST
HSB,
Hm, more like Zak Zee, getting chases by TT D line. But that is a good analogy lets hope Sip becomes the Sooner QB and that is Suh, or Crick or anyone else on the Husker defense. Way to be a half glass full guy. Go Big Whack A Mole!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 8:23PM CST
Busie,
I never make predictions or bet on the Huskers. I live in Vegas and the last I bet on them it was the 95 Orange bowl. Even though the Huskers lost my ticket still played becasue Florida St. didn't cover. Even though I one moneyI would have rather had the win. I haven't bet since.

Posted by: NUCORNDEVIL on November 4, 2009 8:27PM CST
The area to watch Sat is the play calling, Will Wats put us in position to win or will it be more of the predictible 5 - 10 yard passing plays sprinkled in with 1 maybe two different running formations.
NU needs to come out smoking with some big time high risk great reward plays that puts OU's defense on the defensive.
Throw more than one pass longer than 15 yards.
Take off the chastity Belt Watson and grow a pair!...

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:32PM CST
Suh would be shocked if he knew I had 3 chances on the LSU/Gump football board this week with "Big Suh" as my I.D.

At the start of the season, people would see that and ask "who is that?" They don't ask anymore. Everyone seems to know who "he" is.

Go Big Suh
Geaux Trindon Holiday #8 (fastest man to ever play for the Tigers)

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 4, 2009 8:35PM CST
If you don't have a pair, why would you need a chastity belt? Just wondering.

Busie....I heard someone else say that redone was cuteone as well. Has the same bitter taste of someone going to a school that has no competitive athletics.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 8:36PM CST
Some interesting stuff on Big Red wrap up from Dammon Benning. He talks about the timing necessary in the Zone scheme. and how difficult it is to establish. Injuries can and have played a huge part due to the lack of playing together. Also the difficulty of involving the tight end.

It is not as simple as we would like it to be.

Evening Silicon

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:42PM CST
Possibly Slippery Rock? I wonder whatever happened to them. We could not make a Sat. of football without getting the Slippery Rock score. Needless to say, they rarely imparted shock and awe to their opponents.

Posted by: huskernks on November 4, 2009 8:42PM CST
Listen here husker nations this is how we are going to beat OU this wkend

Defense scores twice, and sets our Offense up with in the redzone at least once,
Special teams get a touchdown and great field postion,
Lastly Alex Henry kicks 3 Field Goals from at least 50...

Key to Victory

Offense TDs
Defense TDs
Special teams Tds

Go big red

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:43PM CST
PT, I sent you a message. BTW, have you heard from Bender? Thought for sure he would be on after the Oregon beatdown of USC.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 4, 2009 8:43PM CST
Hey Nish.....trying to wrap up at work.

Posted by: Boonies on November 4, 2009 8:44PM CST
Hey, I see where Cody Glenn got called up from the Colts' practice squad (starting LB went down)...3rd string, but still...Way to go, Cody!

On topic, I do think OU's OL is vulnerable, but then again, so is ours. Their excuse is youth...what's our's? I'm not sure. The game may hinge on special teams play (still less than stellar on our side), the kicking game (we have the edge) and just those crazy bounces that happen in every game. I dunno, I'm trying to stay positive. Ya just never know which Husker team is going to show up. They're young, but are growing up fast this year I hope.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 8:46PM CST
Busie, I got it and responded. and no I have not seen Bender. What is up with the Slippery Rock stuff.

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 8:51PM CST
Silicon Valley Husker mentioned redone had been mentioned earlier as possibly being cute one with an alias and probably from a school with no competitive sports program.

I haven't lost it yet PT, but getting close as Sat. nears. Both camps in our game are being very quiet. No fanfare, nada. This is always a blood match lol

Posted by: Boonies on November 4, 2009 9:06PM CST
Busie, I'll be pulling hard for the Tigers! National broadcast I hope? What network and time?

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:17PM CST
Evening boys and girls. Joba did a nice job for the Yankees coming in and closing out the 6th. Yankees up 7-3 bottom 6. Joba just might end up with a World Series ring tonight!

Posted by: Busiekcreek on November 4, 2009 9:19PM CST
Boonies, 2:30 p.m. CST, feel sure it be a nat. broadcast given the history and rankings. I will check and post it. Probably CBS as they have first dibbs on SEC games. I'm hoping I get to see the Husker game and not some ACC or Big 10 matchup. I'm outta here; have been working on "work" at home.
Nite All

Posted by: redone on November 4, 2009 9:20PM CST
Forget about football NU fans, basketball starts and you will shine. That will make your football team look discussing, which by the way already is there. Iowa St. sure made you look better than you really are. Ridiculousy inadequate. Keep the faith cobs.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:21PM CST
GBR))) This is waaaay off subject. But you said you have been coaching in Texas for many years.

Do you happen to remember when a guy that coached up North of Dallas that was arrested for having a relationship with a high school girl? About 7 or 8 years ago.

Posted by: TomOs on November 4, 2009 9:21PM CST
CU lost another player.. D. Scott.. threw in the towel..

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:22PM CST
Step, I know this sounds bad, but which one?

Posted by: Exiled_in_VT on November 4, 2009 9:23PM CST
Busie, I'll be pulling for your Tiggers this week.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:25PM CST
Oh, and yes, that is waaaayyy off subject. I can see how it could happen to somebody that wasn't very self disciplined, or very smart for that matter.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:29PM CST
Oh... I didn't know there was more of them.

Anyways... that guy was one of my best friends. He was fired... of course... and went to prison for 13 months.

Anyways... the reason I brought it up was... they are getting married tomorrow. I'm in the wedding. He's 36... she's 25 now. at the time it happened he was 27... she was 16.

I have never seen two people be so much in love.

Isn't that a weird story?

Posted by: TruBlueRed on November 4, 2009 9:33PM CST
Yea, I also caught Damon Benning on BRW, he also said the NU's offense was not as complicated as most people believe.......that it was a misconception. Thought that was interesting?

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:34PM CST
When it happened we had long talks. I couldn't believe what he was telling me. He said he knew it was wrong... but they were in love.

Welp... he wasn't lying. He told her to go to college... see everything... and if she still wanted to go out... they would. 1 year to the day she graduated college... SHE PROPOSED TO HIM. He accepted.

They really were in love then... they are today... and there is no doubt in my mind... they will be 30 years from now.

Funny how things work out.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:37PM CST
obtw... my mom is 72... my dad is 83.

They got married when she was 17.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:38PM CST
Not that weird, I've heard of that happening a few times. I don't recall the incident, but I can definitely see how it could happen. Especially to a younger coach. I knew an Ag teacher that had a set of parents invite him to dinner. After dinner they asked him if he knew their daughter had a crush on him. He told them he suspected as much but that he was keeping his professional distance. They told him that they would be proud for him to date their daughter. I think they were about the same ages as your friend and his girl. These two got married two years after she graduated. They now teach Ag together.

It's a foolish man who looks for logic in the cockles of the heart...

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:40PM CST
Oh yeah... he's not the smartest guy. No doubt.

Now that I think about it... my dad is an evil child rapist. He should have been tossed in jail.... by todays laws at least.

I'm gonna call him and tell him that.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:40PM CST
You're right Exiled. It's also a foolish man who is a teacher and thinks too much with his cockles!

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:42PM CST
Joba strugglin a bit here in the 7th. Just got pulled.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 9:42PM CST
Trublue. I really like to listen to Damon. He is a bright young guy, not to interrupt the soap opera. he he he. That BTW, is a nice story with a great ending. Congrats to them steph.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 4, 2009 9:42PM CST
Watson will have to unwatson like to beat the sooners. Is it hyde or is it jekyll?

Shocking

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 9:46PM CST
It was interesting to hear that the players were all quite complimentary of him. Even Ganz said he learned a great deal playing for him.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:47PM CST
They usually don't end that well. If you get terminated with that being the cause you will never teach again. Just not worth the risk. There used to be alot more of that, but here in the last 10 years districts have started terminating people rather than sweep it under the rug and allow that person to resign and move on to another district.

Step, was that the one in Merkyl?

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 9:47PM CST
Course Joe will be working for him soon. Might need to be a little careful

Posted by: TommyOC on November 4, 2009 9:47PM CST
I married a girl 9 years younger, but I didn't meet her until she was of legal voting age. lol

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:47PM CST
So... anyways... I see somebody looked up what I had been saying. OU is weak up front. Huge advantage for us.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 4, 2009 9:48PM CST
Step, I'm a more modern guy...I don't feel like I can date a woman in her 20s until I'm at least 50.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 9:50PM CST
Benning give us a great shot to win this thing. But he said we must make them one dimensional.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:53PM CST
PT, by all accounts Wats is a great teacher. Knowing that had alot to do with what I've said about my opinion of Lee not getting much better with his technical skills because he's already spent a considerable amount of time with Wats. I also suspect Wats might be a bit of a coddler and doesn't dish out that "tough love" very often. Nothing to base that on, just a suspicion.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 4, 2009 9:54PM CST
PT did you download that free spellcheck at
www.iespell.com

?????

And a happy flatiron to the lady.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 9:54PM CST
GBR))) No doubt. He would have been ruined. Forget football and teaching. He couldn't even be a trainer at Dallas' most popular gym. They had a day care in there. They wouldn't let him. Like he was some kind of sicko.

He got his record sealed for somewhere around $20,000... went back to school.. and became an an anaesthesiologist... like his father. In other words... he's doing fine. He makes bank.

Posted by: drivebyposter on November 4, 2009 9:56PM CST
I just wish they would quit showing all those sunbelt pics.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 9:59PM CST
No doubt he's doing fine. Anaesthesiology is the way to go these days. Big money! But, there is also big risk. He's fortunate she was 16, if she were any younger he'd probably be on the sex offender's list for life.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:00PM CST
No... not Merkyl. Truth be told.. I really don't wanna say where it happened despite the time passed. It's a sore subject to some despite the happy ending.... and we have kids from that area. wink!

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 10:02PM CST
PT, I think most would agree with Benning and it is very conceivable that we could take away the running game. I think it would be a pretty lofty goal to try to take the passing dimension from OU.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:02PM CST
Wow. Thats weird about the teacher being asked to dinner. lol

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 10:07PM CST
It was a small country town and back in the mid '80's. I was a little shocked, but I guess it wasn't that unusual in small towns up to that point in time. It usually is a sore subject because most of the time people take sides and sometims the whole community becomes divided. That's what happened in the town I mentioned. Tough to heal a community in situations like that.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:08PM CST
So... what do you guys think? An armchair coacg like myself can see OU is weak up the middle on the Oline. Obviously thats where our advantage is.

Would you try to get after those A gaps? Or play it how we have been playing it... with that 7 man Zone?

I think I'd just keep doing what we have been doing. But you know they will test our safeties like no other team we have played if Landry has time. So we need to have something... if they start eating us up. Truth be told... I am really unconcerned with their run game. I'm worried about our safeties... and West... if he has to play.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 10:11PM CST
PT, how many confirmations do you know of for the tailgate? Just curious.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 10:11PM CST
Good point GBR. And that is why I am saying that Cody will finish out the year barring injury. Wats did not what to give up but he could see he had no choice.

Did I see you are not leaving until about midnight on Friday. You are plumb crazy.

Posted by: ArguingWithIdiots on November 4, 2009 10:12PM CST
Got to be a female teacher and a barely teen boy who cross into a foreign country to make the news in our ....modern...world.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 4, 2009 10:14PM CST
I am just listening to the Benning interview.... who does he think he is? Not nearly as smart as all of us blogging. :) He's a pretty well spoken guy.

Posted by: GBR in Texas on November 4, 2009 10:15PM CST
PT, not much choice. Have to go to our game first. We are in dire straights to boot. Starting QB has mono, backup has a broken throwing hand and the 3rd teamer can't throw it 15 yards. Bringing up the JV QB and running a power type wishbone attack, probably minus the power.

Posted by: PT Husker on November 4, 2009 10:17PM CST
TEx. I am not really sure. I have been pushing some for answers and most are no. I have added about 5 or 6 though. There was 50 invites sent out. LJS wanted to keep the number in that range. If we get 25 or 30 I will be happy.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:18PM CST
It got pretty serious. By the time he was in prison... she was going to college. His dad bought her a new car so she could have it when she went to school. We put it in my name. Then one day... 2 detectives showed up at my door. I was living 3 hours away. That detective told me he was gonna kill me if I did not stay away from her... despite her parents being fine with it. He told me that we had brainwashed the whole family with money. Thats really what he said to me. I was scared for about a day. Then I just decided... I'm gonna do what I think is right... and if they want to kill me... for helping a girl go to school... then by all means go ahead.

They haven't killed me yet.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:21PM CST

Step, Maybe they just wanted you to know that they could. It's a crazy world we live in.

PT, that would be a good turnout. I wouldn't make the drive with the quick turnaround if it wasn't for the ticket.

LSU))) The Tigers gonna do it or not?

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:47PM CST
Welp... the Phillies gave a good effort. But it didn't take long in this series to see the Yanks were the better team.

Pedro Martinez should be the Phillies 3rd guy... not their second.

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 10:49PM CST
Oh... I forgot to mention.

Game of the Century was on today. Did anyone watch it? ESPN Classic. They replay it Friday night.

'86 Nebraska/OU is on tomorrow on ESPN Classic as well. I'm not 100% sure... but I think that was the Keith Jackson end around game. Anyone confirm?

Posted by: The StepnRaZor on November 4, 2009 11:00PM CST
Nope... it wasn't the end around game.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:19PM CST
Hey all! Am I too late for the party? I had a hard time parking my GOOO BIGGG REDDD TRUCK. Please tell me someone remembers our chat from last night or else I just made myself look like an idiot. Appetizers anyone?

No whale allowed! How goes it Nish?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:24PM CST
Cali,
You be good this weekend, watching the game with your OU fans!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:25PM CST
I'm good hun.
Better now that your here. lol

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:26PM CST
I'm still waiting for the name of a Cali lawyer to represent me! I hope my woman's intuition proves accurate.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:28PM CST
what is that, your womans intuition? Wha ever you do don't make a bet, with this OU fan.
If you want to get them, just say "Howard who?"

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:30PM CST
Do we know who the starting QB will be against OU?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:33PM CST
I havent heard anything, but I haven't been on much. There was a article yester saying Waston would use his QB options. It kind of sounded like he wound't be opposed to using both. Lot of chatter they might line up with both in the back field, but that is just specuation.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:33PM CST
I never bet...last time I did it turned out very bad for me. =) Okay, I bite...why do I say "Howard who?"

Posted by: Big Red Machine71 on November 4, 2009 11:37PM CST
Unless we come up with some new blocking schemes and ditch this "zone" blocking, we are in for abysmal rushing results, year after year...

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:38PM CST
Before Stoops, before John Blake and after Barry Switzer, there was Howard Schnellengerger, he was know for being a drunk, the darkest times of the OU program. Last year we had a Corporate big wig come to Vegas from TX, spouting OU dominance and I said "Howard who." She shut up. lol

Posted by: Big Red Machine71 on November 4, 2009 11:39PM CST
If you have the game recorded, go back and watch the rushing attempts we had in the Baylor game. If you can play it in slow motion, please do. I was wondering why we couldn't convert on 2nd and 1 or 3rd and two. It is because we don't block...

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:40PM CST
Well OU, O line is depleted, we should be able to get preasure on the QB

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:43PM CST
I wish I had the game recorded. The line is a big disapointment this year, not very physical.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:43PM CST
Nish....."Howard who" shall be the phrase of the day!

Machine71....we have a ways to go, but to suggest that we are screwed year after year...a little harsh, my friend. I think that they will come up with some new blocking schemes. Gotta have faith!

Posted by: Big Red Machine71 on November 4, 2009 11:43PM CST
it is not for lack of effort by the RB's... they aren't given a chance unless it is a directional toss or sweep type play where we are pulling lineman

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:48PM CST
Cali,
Just don't bet anything that would cost you to lose any clothes.

Posted by: Big Red Machine71 on November 4, 2009 11:50PM CST
Nish, not that they aren't physical, they are. Just that when you line up with 8 lineman against a 4-3, and double team the 4 down lineman, you will go nowhere. Linebackers fill gaps very fast, sometimes fast enough to catch you for a loss. This blocking scheme was used throughout the Baylor game. (helu's first and goal where he was stopped short, 3rd and two after Prince's pick, throughout the second half when we were trying to "power through" on 2nd and 2 or 3rd and 1... I was astounded... When I played (not at DONU), you blocked the lineman AND the backers... Is there a replay of the game online? I would love to diagram this out...

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 4, 2009 11:51PM CST
Well....Nish...the trick is to wear multiple layers of clothing.

Any betting I do will cost me "adult" beverages.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:54PM CST
Wow BRM,
You know your football. I guess they replay the game of FOX west, but I have never seen the replays. I know I played in high school. Offensive guard. We did alot of trap blocking. our against four. As little as I know, your bascily tried to over power your man or at least hold them up for a second.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 4, 2009 11:56PM CST
Cali,
Sounds like you have some experiance regarding this topic? hm...
Adult beverages and layers of clothing...
Wish I could be a fly on your wall.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:03AM CST
Machine 71....I echo Nish's thoughts. Ya got some serious football knowledge/credentials.

Nish...being a fly on my wall would be boring. Still looking for a maid and nanny...=)

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:06AM CST
hm, I have not problem doing house work and cleaning up, I'm better at cooking but I won't wear a maids outfit, maybe a apron, but we would have to dicuss that.
So what time is the game on Saturday. I think I will end up missing. Going to dealth valley on the bike

Posted by: JeffreyLy on November 5, 2009 12:07AM CST
can redone be banned? Every blog i read he is stirring the pot in a neg way. I am all about voicing displeasure but no need to start a fight everytime you post.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:08AM CST
It's 5 pm Cali time. Thank god for Gameplan, or else I wouldn't get to watch it. You are PST, right?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:11AM CST
Yeah, so that means the game starts at 4. I might be able to watch it here. Sometimes I go to a local bar that has the game for Husker fans. There usually is a good turnout. There is another bar where there will be 300 Huskers fans watching the game together, it off the hook. Usually a few folks will have their face painted at the rest of the insanity

Nish .....I would fit in great. I don't paint my face, but I have the earrings...the necklace....the purse.....shall I go on?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:19AM CST
Yeah, sure, If you have a Husker tat, I'm getting down on my kness and.... never mind
I have a Husker wallet, banor in my living room and a bigh 25 ft pole and a Blackshirt flag I fly at the lake and on game days.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:21AM CST
My flag is a Blackshirts flag. Some of my neighbors love it....others not so much!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:24AM CST
The place is called Torrinos great sports bar but it is so busy, its hard to get a drink. I prefer Mr. Ds. When I went down to the Sugar Bowl when we went to the game we painted our faces. Did tell you how I almost got arrested. No different story. This was before the game. The guys I went stole everything that wasn't tied down for their frat house. They wanted this 20X20 banner that was hanging off the hotel parking gargue.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:26AM CST
Nish...I think you should travel with your own personal attorney. LOL!

What do you think is gonna happen with OU this week-end? (Other than me potentially being arrested.)

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:30AM CST
You know I ended up being a cop. lol
Have never been arrested. lol

Honest, I think we will be blown out. OU pust up 40 something against KS.
Our offense has been so bad this year, I don't see Wats and company finding away to move the ball against OU. I hope I'm wrong

If the offense that played the second half agaisnt Missery would show up we might make it a game.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:32AM CST
Nish....that means 6pm your time....unless you will be way off the coast of Cali

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:33AM CST
Our defense will keep us in the game and do some scoring of their own. Like I said last night.....Bo is due for a breakout win.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:34AM CST
Gosh your smart Cali,
lol, I'm so use to the game starting earlier here than those back home, I mixed up.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:35AM CST
Silicon...hello! Where's my dessert...my sweet tooth is itching!!!

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:38AM CST
Nish...I would love to take credit for correcting you, but it was Silicon, who is hopefully in the kitchen cooking up some yummy desserts.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:38AM CST
Cali,
What do you put in your Kool-aid you should market it, the whole world would be a happier place
I hope your right.
The defensive line is playing lights out.
I thougth the DBs were exposed against Iowa St. and Baylor. If Baylor receivers had any talent or their star QB would have been playing we probably would have lost

I was impressed with Cody and maybe he will step up to the challenge (OMG coachs speak) and give it a 110%

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:38AM CST
Too much work....no baking this week

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:40AM CST
wow, you guys need to change your Avatars.
I can't tell the differance.
I wondered where he was tonight.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:43AM CST
DBs have exposure....I agree. When the QB drops back and goes deep....I kinda pucker up and hold my breath. I don't know why I am drinking Kool-aid. I guess it comes down to the fact that I think the players are gonna play their tails off due to Bo's motivation. Bo is going to end up being another TO....no doubt, in my mind.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:44AM CST
I'm betting it doesn't look like her and I know it doesn't look like me.

Nish, where is the used avatar lot to go shopping?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:47AM CST
I hope so,
I don't know if the fans will allow Bo the time to develop a team like Tom did. Cali you seem to have a desent knowledge regarding football.
I thought Callahan had the team in the right direction. I still think he might have had he gotten rid of Cossgrove.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:47AM CST
Nish...its either coach speak or that woman on cable who does salon makeovers

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:47AM CST
I just spoke to our Avatars....all is straightened out. But, Silicon....your Avator seriously wants a pie.

Posted by: bruNo on November 5, 2009 12:50AM CST
Our D line is the least of our concerns vs OU. Our LBs and Dbs are somewhat of a concern, and of course, our offense will struggle to score on these guys.

OU should be able to hit us for some big plays and they might be able to run on us as well.

I wouldn't say we have 'no' chance in this game, but we will have to get a number of breaks to win it, as in, the Sooners suck that day...

Posted by: bruNo on November 5, 2009 12:51AM CST
anyway, back to bed.....

ciao ;)

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:52AM CST
Bruno...I'm thinking a trick play...one involving an explosive device buried at midfield. Think it could work?

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:53AM CST
I should have said cliché, instead of Coash speak, I was to lazy to look it up.
Salon makeovers?
Now I'm hungry for Sushi.

Silicon what do you think about this weeks game?

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 12:55AM CST
Callahan was a joke. He did not understand Husker football. He did not know how to inspire players to play with passion. Football is, of course, a game of basics and skills. But, the spirit, passion, competition and love of the game are HUGE! Bo gets that....Callahan....not in this lifetime.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 12:58AM CST
No wisdom....unsure what to think. I think the coaches will have them up but not sure if the O can overcome struggles. An upset would be monumental....hard to see it happening. Competitive game, maybe...

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 12:58AM CST
Yeah, I agree,
I was impressed with Callisability to recruit althought none of his player really pan out. Unless you inlculde Gantz and Taylor, they both did a good job at QB.
I never thought Calli was a good choice, but when he was here I hope he would prove me wrong. He didn't

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:01AM CST
I saw how the Raider's quite on Callahan....his selection had me very worried. He's a good coach and technician but not sure about his motivational skills.

Posted by: CaliHuskrgirl on November 5, 2009 1:05AM CST
Well....I best get my beauty sleep....them fires ain't gonna put themselves out tomorrow morning. Good night Husker fans....and to all a good night!!!!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 1:05AM CST
It was weriod how quickly the Raiders went bad. Super Bowl on year, horrible the next.
Have a cop buddy who is a die-hard Raider fan, has season tickets. He paid 5,000 to go to the super bowl. Poor fella

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:07AM CST
Al Davis karma...and loss of Gannon

Night CaliHuskrgirl, be good!

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 1:15AM CST
Silicon,
Do you have a feel for who will be starting at QB Saturday

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:17AM CST
I'm gonna guess Cody starts based on the press this week. I won't be surprised if Zac sees some time as well if we don't move the ball. I'm hoping that they have a gadget play or two that uses Cody's abilities.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:19AM CST
I hope they put Landry on the ground about 15 times.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 1:21AM CST
I'm hoping they use both of them. Maybe Wats has been holding back. I don't understand why the line play has been so poor.

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:23AM CST
I watched the Damon Benning interview....interesting comments and he gave Wats a big endorsement as a teacher and that his scheme is not as hard as people think. He didn't endorse zone blocking.

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 1:27AM CST
Well I'm not surprised. I don't remember many ex huskers comming out against Calli, just the the policitical thing to do.
I think next year will be a pivotal year for Wats.
This year is understandable the struggles they have had with the youth playing

Posted by: Silicon Valley Husker on November 5, 2009 1:30AM CST
yep.....they need to make some changes, no doubt. I'm headed to sleep......later

Posted by: bruNo on November 5, 2009 1:37AM CST
silicon,
there are any number of devious tactics we have dreamed up here to level the playing field for Big Red--guerilla warfare ala the Weiner bazooka guy, for e.g., is always a crowd pleaser...

But unfortunately, we will have to win this game fair and square, should we miraculously win it, that is.

Posted by: bruNo on November 5, 2009 1:43AM CST
I really, really don't think Wats is the problem, the guy seems competant enough to me. Ya gotta have the players folks, plain and simple.

I'm a big Celtics fan out here and we all know that story, so whenever I hear all the 'fire the coach' smack, I just think Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, and now Rasheed...

C's were in the cellar of the NBA for 10 years, then in ONE year, they win it all. What changed?

Posted by: bruNo on November 5, 2009 1:47AM CST
Damon Benning doesn't endorse zone blocking, LOL! K, zone blocking is a staple in the game of offensive football, both college and pro, but DAMON BENNING doesn't endorse it!

Politically speaking, I don't 'endorse' capitalism, but guess what...

get real..

Posted by: NishBigRed on November 5, 2009 2:13AM CST
I belive in knocking somone on their who whoo, then helping them up and doing it again, over and over.

Posted by: no nothing on November 5, 2009 5:20AM CST
Steve, that may be something to watch however, what happens there is not what is going to decide this ball game IMO. While I am positive those two guys will disrupt OU's offense some, I think OU has too many options to lessen that threat. They will simply try and bypass it.

The deciding factor of this game will be what our offense decides it going to do differently that what we have been seeing lately. If our Huskers can generate some old forth quarter offense like they did against Missouri, we may have a chance at winning this game. Keep in mind that they got very lucky in that game in the 4th quarter too. Our offense is going to have to score a bunch of points and they also need to control the ball some so our defense can catch its breath.

I believe OU lost it three games by a total of 5 points or so (I heard that and I don't know if that is a fact). I also believe those losses OU have are against a lot better teams than what NU has faced so far this year. To base an outcome of this game upon our past performances this year is being a little too optimistic IMO.

With that being said, anything can happen this Saturday. If our staff can put together a game plan like ISU did and create 7 and get 8 turnovers like ISU did, we could possibly win this game. As much as I like my Huskers, I would not go "all in" on this game.

If the Huskers come out on Saturday and plays that impotent offense they have been playing, it is going to be a long night. Memorial Stadium could be a end up being a hostile work environment Saturday night. Thousands of fans will start tailgating at 10AM on Saturday and by 7PM, many will believe they could play in that game. It is going to be very important for the Huskers to come out of the chute very early and quite often. This is OU and these guys play football and when they play NU, they usually play even better.

The keys to winning this game have not changed much since the beginning of the season as far as I am concerned:

1. Power running game.
2. Some sort of blocking for the running game.
3. Consider playing a no pass first attack.
4. Play selection at the right time and place.
5. Red Zone play.
6. When you have know idea what to try next, go with the fullback. Every defense you play is giving it to you.
7. No stupid penalties.
8. NO SIDELINE SCREEN PASSES. I can't emphasize that enough!
9. We should control the tempo of the game and not let OU do it. This is on the staff IMO.
10. This is the 9th game of the season, play like it is.
11. Pretend it is just practice if you need to.
12. Catch the ball and hold on to it too.
13. The time for talk has passed and no one is really listening to all that garbage anyway. 14. Play like you are from Nebraska.
15. WIN!

Simple stuff.

GBR

"Nebraskans for Oklahoma", do not patronize the NU booo birds as they sit in the rafters and make all the noise during the game.

Posted by: HuskerInCO on November 5, 2009 7:34AM CST
I could care less about Suh-Crick vs the weak Oklahoma o-line.

The only area I care to watch on Saturday night is the scoreboard. We've seen Suh-Crick dominate all year (and the rest of our D).

But if we can't score points, it's just another L for our Huskers.

Posted by: Country Husker on November 5, 2009 7:53AM CST
Hey, Nish, way back there, Nebraska beat Miami in the 1995 Orange Bowl 24-17, with a grind-em-up performance that allowed our offensive line to dominate Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis in the 4th quarter for the win.

Ahhhhhhh, the good old days.

Posted by: Country Husker on November 5, 2009 7:56AM CST
......and TO's first National Championship!

Posted by: taco on November 5, 2009 8:03AM CST
no nothing...nice post.... maybe crick and suh could play both sides of the ball and help the O a little. hear crick was very good offensive lineman in high school. LOL..if NU can do do the things you say ..it should be one great game to watch. GO BIG BLOCKERS

Posted by: taco on November 5, 2009 8:07AM CST
country husker.....TO's first NC....enter Tommy Frazier.

Posted by: taco on November 5, 2009 8:14AM CST
IMO..TO's teams seemed to always have good (the pipeline) offensive linemen. yet TO was known to not be able to win the big one. enter Frazier..he kinda helped TO get over the hump and start winning NC'S.....hoping Green will kinda be the man for Bo. time will tell. GO BIG RED

The "DOG" recalls memorable games vs Mooner Nooners! '59, just a puppy sitting in west stadium, storming the field after the "big" W!! '63, after JFK assassination that thurs. - winning B8 - Bob Brown/Dennis Claridge etc!! '65 - another W/winning B8! 70/71 - W's - 2 NC'S!!!! '76 - last second loss (fleaflicker!) TO @ helm. '78 - 1ST OZ W over OKies! Early 80 W's ('82, '83) Close L'S - '86 &'87! DOMINATION OVER NOONERS - 90'S - OZZIE RETIRES!! PS - TOO EARLY LIKE BOBBY D!!!

Yes, the mythical national championship, thats the thing they hand out. No playoffs, just give mes.

Posted by: Sludge on November 5, 2009 12:25PM CST
Last night, I watched the replay of the OU-KSU game and am pretty sure we can disrupt them and get them into plenty of 3rd and really long situations. However, our secondary (esp. OHanlon) needs to make sure they dont let people get behind them when we get them in those situations. Im fairly sure our defense will give OU a tough time, but for some reason, OU pulls itself together enough to win these close games. Especially against North B12ers. KSU had alot of momentum but OU was able to make 1st downs via shoddy (try to push guys out of bounds) tackling and finally the nail-in-the-coffin score.

We all know what I think about our offense, so I wont go there. Thats old and boring and doesnt matter anymore.

So where are people going for the game, if youre not going in person? Any big house parties up there in Lincoln? I know, thanks to ideas from the fellas here, I will be having some Captain and Coke somewhere in the local area.
