Sound Off: Do big wins in Virginia and New Jersey mean the Republicans are coming back, or are they an anomaly?

The AP story: Independents who swept Barack Obama to a historic 2008 victory broke big for Republicans on Tuesday as the GOP wrested political control from Democrats in Virginia and New Jersey, a troubling sign for the president and his party heading into an important midterm election year.

Conservative Republican Bob McDonnell's victory in the Virginia governor's race over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds and moderate Republican Chris Christie's ouster of unpopular New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine was a double-barreled triumph for a party looking to rebuild after being booted from power in national elections in 2006 and 2008.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Maine voters rejected a state law that would allow same-sex couples to wed. If supporters had prevailed, it would have marked the first time that the electorate in any state endorsed gay marriage.

And Democrat Bill Owens captured a GOP-held vacant 23rd Congressional District seat in New York in a race that highlighted fissures in the Republican Party and illustrated hurdles the GOP could face in capitalizing on any voter discontent with Obama and Democrats next fall.

California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, also a Democrat, won a special election to a vacant congressional seat, Ohio voters approved casinos and a slew of cities selected mayors, including New York, which gave Michael Bloomberg a third term.

An anomaly pure and simple although the Repubs will declare it as a sure sign that the policies of the Obama Administration are failing. Politics will always seek to confuse at the very time a unified effort is needed. Too bad. The trolls will have a field day! In the famous words of our former President! Bring it on!

Have been writing for a long time now, watch for the mid-term elections, which in his day, Changed Clinton's agenda so much he ended up looking pretty good, in spite of scandal. This governer thing is just the warm-up act. Obama overestimated how much socialism America is ready for, and his guys will have a price to pay.

Obama was HEAVILY invested in NJ. He went there 5 times in the past month. NJ voters believed the Corizine crap just as America believed Obama. Four years later the proof was in the disasterous economy of that state and those voters booted him and his socialist policies of tax increases which in turn devestated the state. Watch what happens next November when unemployment is over 10% natonwide and the government begins a policy of tax increases across the board to begin paying for the stimulus, cap and trade and the Obamacare legislation. It may take more than two years for the nation to realize the mistake they made, but awaken they will. And no amount of biased media coverage that paints Obama in a positive light will be able to cover up the truth.

It isn't a matter of Democrats or Republicans. It is electing leadership that will do what is best for the country. The Democrats seem to love their idiots; Reid, Pelosi, Obama, Dodd, B. Frank and many others but the G.O.P. has had their share of idiots also. A shorter list maybe but still enough to do damage.

How is that kw guy is already quoting rush on here? Hopefully the repubs take over so we can second guess everything they do. Hey kw remember don't dwell on the past and keep looking ahead. You know history really don't repeat itself it just seems that way. I heard from the planet zerioa that the next president will be dick cheneys daughter and will surround herself with the likes of oprah and friends. You know dicks daughter, the REPUBLICAN who seems like a liberal> ole dickey will be to old to hold a gun soon so he will turn over his hate to next of kin. I hope to hear back tonight when the ship comes down and unloads another group of aliens dressed like american politicians. The planet zerioa does not send roids often so it will be nice to see them. I believe the American Public is getting wiser as to what is happening in Washington and how much the people of America were misled in the Election of 2008

Exactly, not only in N.J and Vermont, it's the small local defeats for the dem party in many states that is now occuring and will really show up in 2010.
In my opinion, that's why obama has to have everything right now, he knows support for him is failing quickly.

Thanks again, Jerrysue, for making the comments we've learned to expect you to make, and thanks for the ultimate compliment. I haven't had time to listen to Rush since I got off the road, except for a short drive for a check up every 3 months. Your Ultras pushed a little too hard on the socialism thing and already too many people can easily see it doesn't work very well. Obama, who's missing his chance to contribute something great, has doomed himself to becoming a pathetic footnote in history. The United States isn't ready for Chicago politics on a larger scale. as the coming mid-term elections will verify. But, I'm glad from the things you write, that little kids show interest in politics, and you can all have some milk and cookies after your nap.
