Sound Off: Is it appropriate for Republicans to boycott debate on the climate change bill?

An Associated Press breaking news story: All Republicans except one are boycotting the start of committee debate on a bill to curb greenhouse gases in a protest that the bill's economic costs have not been fully examined.

Republican Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio attended the session to explain the GOP's argument for staying away. He said the tactic "is not a ruse" to block the bill, but concern that is widespread impact on the country has not been made clear.

Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, the panel's chairman, argued the EPA already has provided "a full blown economic analysis" and that Majority Leader Harry Reid has promised further studies when the bill is merged with other legislation. She insisted "we're not rushing we are taking our time."

Appropriate?
Since when do these Republicans do anything that could be called appropriate?
Considering that they wouldn't have anything reasonable, or logical to add to the debate anyway, and since I'm sure their will be atleast a few Democrats bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry ( like from Montana, or Wyoming) dessenting conservatives and their anti-science bologney won't be necessary.

The idea that man can control the climate is absolutely stupid. Man can barely control their own spending.

Control? No. Who says we will?

Effect? Absolutely! We've been having an effect on climate and weather for centuries...

every time I hear statements like we have been having an effect on climate for centuries, I have to laugh, we have no more effect on climate than we have an effect on the sun. The rotation of the earth, or the rotation of the planets. We are so minuscule in the process of effect on climate and on the atmosphere of the earth that It is just plain silly.
Why should the Republicans take the heat. Who says the Democrats should push for this and who says they are right. They have no idea how things effect the climate of the earth. Planets revolution and the formation of new and more sun spots and more sun eruptions have more to do with the climate on the earth than anything this earth can create, even the volcanoes have more effect on the atmosphere on the earth than man made. So proving that climate change is cause by man is just a guess and has no more scientific re-valence than sun spots, rotation of the planets and there alignment to the sun at different periodic times.

Well, re climate, I think you clearly sell us short. The evidence that industrial output effects climate is undeniable...

As far as who says Dems should push this or that? Simple - they won the last election, fairly and honestly, and by the largest margins in decades. They are the democratically elected choice of Americans to lead our nation and make our laws. Called democracy, and usually it works pretty well.

There's more data saying mankind isn't causing the climate change than there's data which says mankind causes it. The entire climate change thing is just another path they've made heading into Control-freak City. You can just about bet that, if the republicans had thought this one up first, the demos would have taken the opposite side. Since Algore, who's family incidently, was big in oil, is big time private jet carbon-footprinting around telling us how everything is our fault, not his, the demos got a dream opportunity to hang a guilt-trip on everybody. The only answer they have, of course, is more control-freak stuff.

Sorry, KW, but that's utter nonsense...

Re. Zoomie, I do not know of where you have had your head hidden in the last 200 years or so but there has not been a fair or legal election in America since ,Oh, around, 1780.This last election was so riddled with corruption that it makes Irans last election look positively
democratic. What with the 230+ acorn branches, the seiu, the uaw, the black panthers and a myriad of orher groups still unknown throwing the election to obama and the republinuts in such disarrray its a wonder the taliban, Hamas and alqaeda do not have a group here. Oh wait, they do! sorry, I lost my head there for a second. Goodbye America! I just hope I live long enough to be able to laugh at you poor pukes as you slide into slavery hell.

If they believe what they say is the problem, isn't that something to be debated? Walking out is for wimps and losers - when podunk countries' reps walk out of UN meetings, they never gain respect for resorting to such juvenile moves, and I would view this the same way. Gee, this doesn't even give them a chance to shout, "You lie!" I guess it could be worse, though. I remember studying in high school history where one legislator disagreed with another, jumped up and began beating the daylights out of him with his cane! Scoundrels, all who resort to such tactics!
